Finding files in subdirectory

Hi.
I want to write an application which will be changing one word to other and write save to a editing file.
Does anybody knows how to search a file in subdirectories is there any class which will make it??

But do I have to display dialog box and choose file?
I want to do sth like this:
1.) open dialog and select dictionary (choose bellow which files are you want to choose
2.) press ok and find files in selected dictionary.
3.) Showing those files in textarea or sth like this.
I need to automate finding files :-)

  • Finding files when you develop web program

Hi. I develop web app. I deploy application on GlassFish. I have stateless session bean. There code reads data from file and checks retrieved value. File f= new File("category.properties"); suppose to locate the file category.properties in Project's directory. But the program can't find it there. The file exist in that directory.
Somehow that file was found before in Project's directory and deployed to GlassFish. So I noticed that the program checks just if the file exist on GlassFish, but does not check if the file is in Project's directory. As well the program updates data in file which is inside GlassFish but leaves alone same file in Project's directory.
If you run that class which reads file from Project's directory using separate main method which runs just that class, then the program sees the file in Project's directory and updates it.
How to force the web program to read/find file in Project's directory and if you make updates show those updates in Project's directory file.
    Cheers

A deployed application has no relation at all to a 'project'. What you want is the application to find a file in a specific directory.
In your case you will probably only want to read from the file, so your best bet is to put the file on the classpath (for example, put it in the 'classes' subdirectory of your war) and load it using getClass().getClassLoader().getResourceAsStream(). In other words, make the properties file part of your project resources.

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

  • Find files and establish links to help organize my computer

I was advised to post this here instead of where I initially posted it:
Like a lot of people, I have accumulated eBooks at different times and they are scattered all over several drives. I want to organize them. I am trying to remember how to make a UNIX script to do what I want. Then I can put it on a cron so that it will automate the process for me
    What I want to do:
    Find all .epub files
place a link to those files in file:///Users/my_name/Documents/ePub Links/
If this can't work then even to find and move all of the .epubs would work; however, I would prefer to use a link because I also want, with suitable alteration, to use the script to organize my pdf files. Some of those pdf files need to be left where they are because they are manuals; but, again, I would like a central list so I do not keep looking, online, for files I already have.

Smart Folders is the way to go, however, to find files, use "find".
To find in your Home Directory and any attached drives:
    find ~ /Volumes/ -iname '*.epub'
    To create a symbolic link:
    find ~ /Volumes/ -iname '*.epub' -exec ln -s {} "file:///Users/my_name/Documents/ePub Links/" \;
Not sure if find will look in "file:///Users/my_name/Documents/ePub Links/" (which you don't want), but if it does, we can exclude this directory with the -prune option.

can not find file, must locate each song one at a time need to restore my whole library

    Hello BadSteve,
It sounds like iTunes seems to have lost track of all your music and you must locate each file individually. I would recommend at this point that you check for 3rd party plugins to see if there are any causing an issue:
iTunes: Troubleshooting issues with third-party iTunes plug-ins
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3430
If the issue persists after removing the plugins, I would next try recreating your iTunes library:

  • Find function no longer finds files

Does anybody know why might my Find function in Finder no longer finds files and how to fix it? It finds only a limited number of files and they have nothing to do with the search term. I have selected "Computer" as the searchable entity.

Instead of using the Find function,I use the free Find Any File app http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/30079/find-any-file Try it.

  • Itunes 9.2 can no longer find files.

Using Mac 10.4.1, With itunes open, the music files are all there, but when I click to play, it says they cant find file. All the files are on the main hardrive where they have always been. Not sure what to do. Garage Band also does not mix down to ituens as it has in the past, but goes to the hard drive where the other music files are store.  It appears a new itunes has been created as well but it is empty.

Something has happened to breaks your links.  Have you verified your hard drive with Disk Utility?  You may have directory corruption.
As for solutions, the only one I can think of is to rebuild your iTunes library.

    Hi Rick,
by "repair" I mean I went to the control panel, option - programs and features, and in the list of all my installed programs I selected "Apple Software Update". On top of the screen you find the options Uinstall, Change and Repair. I clicked the repair button and that did the trick. After the repair I could uninstall the program. I also uninstalled iTunes, Apple Application Support, Apple Mobile Device Support en Bonjour, thus all Apple programs. Then I installed iTunes 10.5 again and everything went fine.
    Success,

  • Spotlight and finder cannot find files as of a certain date. What can be the problem and how to solve?

Spotlight and search field in Outlook on MacBoon cannot find files as of a certain date. What can be the problem and how to solve?

    Reinstall on both.
Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks without erasing drive
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
    Reinstall Mountain Lion or Mavericks
OS X Mavericks- Reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet
if possible because it isthree times faster than wireless.
Restore your iPhone to reinstall iOS. Be sure to do this while connected to your computer and iTunes.
Tap Settings > General > Reset > Erase all content and settings.

  • Can't find files using Finder

    MBP running OS X 10.8.4
    2.5 GHz Intel Core i5
Starting about two weeks ago, Finder stopped finding files on my MBP.  Previously, if I were to look for a photo named "IMG_1234", I would simply search on "1234" and any and all files containing 1234 in the name would appear.  Now, I get no return to my Finder search.
Spotlight still does return a full list of all files though.
I believe that whatever this problem is, it is also impacting other search-related functions (e.g., when looking to attach a file in Hotmail or to upload a photo to Facebook). I'm now unable to find a specific file on my HD using the browse function of those webpages.
This problem seemed to originate on a day when I was uploading photos to Facebook.  I was able to find and upload several files without issue, then the ability to find specific photos just stopped working.  It was at that point that the Finder search started returning no responses.
Any suggestions regarding causes/solutions to this issue?  The files for which I am searching are definitely still on my HD.  I'm wondering if I inadvertantly turned off a setting somewhere that impacts where Finder is searching.
    Thanks for any help.

  • Where to find file AForm32.api mentioned in Acrobat SDK?

    Hello everyone,
A paragraph under the following path in Acrobat SDK
"Acrobat Interapplication Communication > Interapplication Communication API Reference > Acrobat Forms Plug-In > Forms plug-in OLE automation"
suggests to place the AForm32.api file in the Acrobat's plug-ins folder:
    Quote:
Registration in the Windows registry (which is different from the class object registration described above) happens every time Acrobat loads the plug-in. Therefore, you must run Acrobat at least once with the AForm32.api file in the plug-ins folder before its type library can be found for object browsing within the Microsoft Visual Studio environment. This is also necessary in order to allow early binding. Declare the program variables as objects of the corresponding classes in AFORMAUTLib, and not simply as Object.
    Question:
Does anybody know where can I get the mentioned file AForm32.api ?
    Thank you.
    surotkin.

AForm32 is now AcroForm – it's the same thing.
However, I don't believe that we expose the COM APIs in the Standard edition – only in the Professional edition.

  • How to develop a windows find files like utility in java

    hi,
I am writing a java program that provides the same functionality as provided by the Windows find files option. is there some windows dll or something like that i can use thru JNI or is there some better solution?
    any help will be appreciated.
    regards

If your program has to be portable, I think it would be better to develop Java code in order to search through file system.
I think you should develop objects that allows to filter files (implementing FileFilter interface) and return a list of the found files to your graphical objects.
You can use the java.io.File.listFiles(FileFilter) method to retrieve a list of files from a given directory.
Write several FileFilter classes (and why not FilenameFilter classes) to provide different way of filtering. Each of those will be used with the listFiles method.
But do not forget that the way you write your filefilters will change the performance of your program.
There is also another problem you might encounter : File Access Rights. If your file system contains file restrictions, the listFiles method may throw SecurityException (if a SecurityManager is created) or return null (if no SecurityManager is set).

  • "cannot find file" after formatting and moving!!

Wanted to have iTunes library included in Time Capsule backup. So had to reformat external hardrives where all my songs are from Windows do OS. Copied everything on other HD, reformatted HD with OS, copied back all songs. HD still has same name "MUSIC", but iTunes cannot find files.
Changed in iTunes preferences the location of files to ensure it searches in the right place AND also replaced with text editor in "iTunes Music Library.xml" file all links with new address of HD (now after reformatting to OS I found it to be slightly different despite still same name).
But iTunes still cannot find the files. Everything is the same as before, HD name, directory structure, file names, etc. ONLY difference is it all is on "OS formatted" drive. Don't want to lose ratings and playlists of over 15,000 songs....is there still a solution?

The moment I "drag out" the Tunes Library File, then there is nothing left there, and when I open iTunes it is empty.
That's as expected. That file is the database iTunes uses that keeps track of everything, so when you then launch iTunes, it's starting from scratch.
I can import the Playlists from the XML and they do appear, but still no songs, all is empty. If I try to reimport from the new location, then they "do not fit into the playlists", meaning ratings etc. are lost.
Then you apparently didn't get the XML file edited properly; it's not easy to do.
Why does the simple location function in iTunes Preferences not work?
It does, when used as designed. The preference is where new additions (imports & purchases) will be stored. It does not change the location for existing files.
Put the original library file back. Then launch iTunes, Get Info on a representative track, and look at the path to where it thinks the files should be and compare that to the actual path. Any difference at all will break things. If there are differences (drive name slightly different, any difference in folder names/structure, etc.; letter case counts), try correcting them in Finder and see if that gets things working again. If not, then you'll have to use the Add to Library command to get back your tracks which will lose all your ratings, etc.
Where does iTunes save the links to the original files so it can simply be changed?
In the iTunes Library file, which cannot be manually edited.

  • Cannot find file #01, do you want to search?"

We recorded a song yesterday and saved it as properly as the other sessions we also recorded. Today I want to open it, but it always says "Cannot find file #01, do you want to search?" But I've got the problem only with one file, the other songs are ok.
The odd thing is: the file is there, also the tracks in the file and the recordings in the tracks appear. But the music inside the recordings is gone. Also the media file is empty. I'm quite desperate and my band will kill me. Can anybody help?

Did you move the songs to the current folder AFTER you added them to iTunes? Sounds like you did. Big mistake. You may just have to delete you library and re-import them from the current folder. Once you've done that, leave the files where they are. iTunes can't track where you're moving your music to from one place to the next.
