Finding font name . . .

I have no experience with AI. I recently received a .eps file, and I have to figure what font they used. I can't get hold of the originator. Is there a way to find out the font name. I've selected every way possible with no luck. Perhaps I'm missing something.

Type >> Find Font
Will give you al list of all fonts used in the document, and a a pictoral representation. For a  variety of reasons, you may find your answer in that palette, rather than troubleshooting for locked layers. locked elements, masked elements, outlined type, etc.

    I tested on a device here and see the same issue using 6.0.40.1.  I would consider this a bug and open an issue with support so they can escalate and have it corrected.  It appears to be device/os version specific as I don't see the issue on Android 2.3.4 but I do see it on Android 4.1.1 and Android 4.4.2.
    I am also going to open an issue with Engineering on this as well.

  • How to Find fonts in a FM10 document

    Could a fellow FM10 user tell me how I could search a document to find a particular font. The reason I want to do this is I have inherited a rather long document and have discovered (visually) a number of fonts that should have not been used. I suspect that there are more which just visual inspection would not reveal. I had hoped FM would have a function like Edit > Find/Change <a font name> but it does not appear to be this straightforward.
    Thanks.

    Use the Fonts pod (View > Pods > Fonts...) to see what fonts are being used in the document, e.g.
    Highlight the font you wish to find/change and eithr click on the Font replace button (the "A" with the swooping arrow under it) or double click on the font name.
    You will then get the Font Replace panel, which shows you all instances of the font usage in the document, e.g.
    Double-clicking on the entries here will move the insertion point to the location where the font is being used.
    After inspecting, you can the decide if you want to do a global replacement using the Font Replace panel. Note: this works very well.

  • Minumum and Maximum pointsize in the active document with font name

    hi
    How to find the font with point size in active document and how to get the minimum point size and maximum point size used in the active document with font name
    Thanks in Advance.

    Okay, that does look good (without testing it). Does it do its job?
    I think it can be made a bit more efficiently by not running over all text frames, but rather over all stories in the document -- a small change, the rest can stay the same.
    You can also try turning the gathering of used data around. It appears you are now pushing every item immediately into your array, then weed out duplicates. (For my thoughts on the latter, see below!) It might be quicker and more memory-efficient to scan your present array to see if the new item is already in there, and only push when it's not. (Bonus points for a binary tree implementation -- the fastest possible way! But a linear search on the entire array, or on a sorted array and bailing out if you go "past" the current item, may be fast enough.)
    (On Weeding out duplicates; you might want to skip this, as it won't be necessary for the above:)
    Your function UniteSame sorts out and removes duplicates by comparing every item to every other one; then it sorts the array. An alternative can be to
    1. Sort the array
    2. Create a new empty one
    3. Push an item of the original onto the new one.
    4. Skip items of the original list while they are the same as the bottom one of the new list.
    5. Until you run out of items.

  • Can You Change the Highlighted Button in the Find Font Palette?

    I have several hundred spreads that I converted from Quark to InDesign CC and a few fonts are missing, so I need to replace them. I can use the "Find/Replace" window to take care of most of them using the "find format" function, but one doesn't show up as a choice, so I have to change it using the Find Font palette. I select the missing font name and then select the replacement. Then, if I hit the "enter" button on the keyboard, the palette closes because the highlighted button is the "Done" button. Is there a way to change the highlighted button to the "Change All" one?
    Thanks,
    Lloyd

    John,
    Thanks for the reply. I tried using the tab key and although it does change the highlighted button, you can't just press "enter" to select it. I also tried ALT+A (option+A) and it did nothing. I should have mentioned that I'm using a Mac.

  • Show uninstalled .pfm font names in Windows 7?

    I have a bunch of old fonts that I've kept each time I upgraded to a new computer or OS (WIndows 95 to XP and now Windows 7). In the past, I've always been able to easily pick out which fonts I wanted to install uning Adobe Type Manager. Well, ATM doesn't work in Win 7. I can install fonts just fine BUT trying to figure out which particular file to install is the problem. I can see the files names like pvw3__.pfm, but I don't know which font that is. I can discover the font name if I double click on the .pfm file,  but clicking on each one indivivually to try and find the one I want is painfully slow. Is there some utility or setting that will show uninstalled font names?

    bump: Please someone help with this solution. I have found that ttf can have "Title" enabled in details view (right click on the columns and check the "Title" and this will work to show the names. But this does not work for pfm/pfb files. Pleae someone help.

  • Font name different on another computer

    We have a font that InDesign CS3 is seeing as a different name on just one of four computers. In other words, 3 computers see the name as "My TNTFont" but that one computer is seeing it as "My TNT Font."
    This is a font we created so the name could have changed at some point since it was used on the troublesome computer. I tried deleting all those silly .lst files that Adobe puts all over the place but to no avail.
    Is there some other place where a list of font is being kept or some other thing that InD is reading?
    Thanks for the help,
    Ken

    Well, I found a work around but, alas, Adobe has defeated/deflated me by hiding something, somewhere in which a font name is associated with a font FILEname.
    I decided had to rename ANOTHER font and had the same issues. I was UNABLE to get InDesign to display the new font names (it was a family). I deleted every adobefnt*.lst file I could find as well as the c:\Windows\system32\FNTCACHE.DAT (hoping against hope) but to no avail. InDesign was still showing the old font names.
    Wondering WHAT InD could be looking at, I renamed the font FILE and reloaded the new fonts, opened InDesign, used those fonts (which now showed the correct names!!!) and closed InDesgin. Loading the fonts from a different location did NOT do it, I had to rename the font file. After closing InD, unloading the renamed font files and reloading the original font files, InD saw the names as correct.
    So, somewhere, somehow InD associates font names, with a font FILEnames.
    Just rediculous.
    All the best and thanks for the help.

    When dealing with text frames that contain multiple styles such as different fonts, kerning or point sizes etc. You need to split the text frame into text runs.
    Using an ITextRunsIterator you can essentially split the text frame into a list of uniquely-styled text ranges.
            AIArtSet artSet;
            long artCount = 0L;
            AIArtSpec spec = {kTextFrameArt,kArtHidden,0 };
            sAIArtSet->NewArtSet(&artSet);
            sAIArtSet->MatchingArtSet(&spec, 1, artSet)
            sAIArtSet->CountArtSet(artSet,&artCount);
            for (int index = 0; index < artCount ++index)
                TextRangeRef trRef = NULL;
                AIArtHandle art = NULL;
                sAIArtSet->IndexArtSet(artSet,index,&art);
                sAITextFrame->GetATETextRange(art,&trRef);
                ATE::ITextRange textRange(trRef);
                ATE::ITextRunsIterator textRunsIterator(textRange.GetTextRunsIterator());
                while (textRunsIterator.IsNotDone())
                        // All of the text in this text range will have the same stylistic attributes
                        ATE::ITextRange range(textRunsIterator.Item());
                        // Get your character features etc here.
                       textRunsIterator.Next();

  • Chart (Graph) Font Name - Formatting Formula

    Hi,
    I am displaying chart in report, and I have requirement to select (format) font name with some condition (e.g.. As per database language, if database is english - Font Name: "Times New Roman", if database version is Spanish - Font Name: "Arial" etc.)
    Currently I am trying to add "Font Name" formula for x-axis in Graph by "Formula Fields -> Formatting Formulas -> Report Footer -> Report Footer A -> Graph2" and Right click "New Font Formula -> Font Name -> Use Editor", but nothing happens. I tired and noticed It works for "Background Color" .
    Please let me know, how can I add Font Name formula for Graph.
    Note: I am working with Crystal XI

    Vamsee,
    Thanks for your reply.
    You are right, I also want to format x-axis field values but how can I reach (access) to "x-axis" field formatting formula for Graph. In Formula Workshop I can find hierarchy upto Graph level only, I cannot find any node such as X-axis, Y-axis under it.

    Looking forward to any suggestion or help.

  • Font Names

    I have a custom font on my Mac which the Font Book shows as being named LCDNineteenHundred. However all my applications (e.g. PageMaker, Acrobat, Freehand etc.) show the font name as LCD1900. This causes me problems when I try to open a document created on the Mac and using this font on my PC. The PC says it can't find LCD1900 and I have to manually substitute the PC's LCDNineteenHundred font.
    Does anybody know of a way that I can force the MAC applications to show the font name as LCDNineteenHundred to give me PC compatibility and save me hours of work.

    Hi Albourneboy,
    The name of the file you see on the desktop has nothing to do with the internal name of the font. You could rename the font asdoiamhgoiwks and it will still show up as LCD1900 in your applications, because that's the internal name.
    Did you create this custom font, or did you pay another firm to create it for you? If the latter, go back to them and have them save you a new font with the correct internal name of LCDNineteenHundred. Otherwise, you would need a font editor such as FontLab or Fontographer to fix the internal name. Neither of which is an inexpensive program.
    If you'd like, you could email it to me and I could fix it for you.

  • Crashing when finding font.

    When using the find font option in the type menu my Illustrator crashes on the 3rd or 4th time of using this menu option. It's getting extremely frustrating as I've lost hours of work due to this bug! I've tried deleting my preferences and clean installing, as well as regularly installing cloud updates, but nothing works.
    Anyone having the same problem?
    I am using Illustrator CC on a iMac running OS 10.7.5.
    Thanks

    Mick,
    Just to make sure, you may have a look at Items 1) and 11) here:
    5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);

  • Find Font dialog box appears when opening files

    This didn't used to happen, but now whenever I open an Illustrator file, the "Find Font" dialog opens as though the fonts I'm using aren't found. Not sure what it wants me to do because no matter what I try nothing resolves. I simply click the "Done" button and go about my business. And there are no problems. Why is this happening? and why now? My fonts are always loaded before I open the file, the file looks and handles just fine.

    CS3 Illustrator 13.0.2
    Suitcase Fusion 12.1.7
    Thanks

    I realise this is an old thread but recently experienced this problem and found a solution that worked for me.
    MacBook Pro
    OS X 10.8.2
    Illustrator CS6
    FYI, my case is slightly different from the OP's: Illustrator was exhibiting this behaviour with only one of my files so I guessed that the problem might be with that specific file. The Find Font dialog box would appear every time the file was opened, even though it showed that all the necessary fonts were present. I didn't have admin rights for that machine and couldn't delete any preference files. So, I tried creating a new .ai file, copying everything over and saving it with a new name. No more dialog box after that.
    Hope this helps.
