Finding hidden mailboxes On My Mac

Important set of boxes under "Delivered" have disappeared since yesterday, without me deliberately making any change. Messages can still be searched for and shown individually. Show/hide doesn't work from pull-down or screen; nor does restarting mail. Can't see mail boxes under Mail in Library (I think you could under older Mac operating systems). I see a similar question from February where no solution was found. Please help!

  • Where is a mailbox "on my mac" in the finder so I can copy

Running OS 10.6.8 with Mail program on a Mac Mini.  On that computer we have a mailbox "On My Mac" in the mail program with old emails going back to 2007, which we want to move and put on a newer laptop (also running 10.6.8).
    1. Where is this folder/mailbox in the finder?  I would want to copy it to a USB thumb drive to put in the appropriate location on the newer laptop.
Any other suggestions related to my question and plan of action is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

Make a new folder with a different name (xxxname2.mbox) and put it all in the new folder, keeping the same structure as you have now. I would try to just move  within it all into the new folder. Then make a new mail box in mail and drag it in there. this will be a archive type of thing. Do a back up on this first. Then you should probably create a new mailbox (different name) moving forward.
As I mentioned before, I have always had multiple mail boxes for different customers, uses,... to help organize things, but this should work, as long as the names are different.
The file is larger because (if I understand you) it contains the attachments, with the messages)
Try putting it on a USB and see that you can open it all.
Now you know where to find where your mail is.

Lion is a bit of a memory hog - kernel_task will use quite a bit and Safari is known to use more; you can't do anything about the system, but changing to Firefox may help a little. The best way to deal with it is to increase your RAM; the required minimum is just that: the minimum. My Macbook would keep crashing and beachballing until I upped the RAM to 4 GB. RAM is inexpensive right now - check out OWC (macsales.com) or Crucial.com; both reputable RAM vendors with lifetime warranties. You won't regret it.
As for iDVD - I purchased the retail iLife 11 disk because of iDVD (because I use that a lot) - it's available at online resellers, the Apple Store, and ebay.

  • How to view hidden files on a mac

I have certain hidden files on my mac that i know are there because they are taking up file space i was wondering how i can make them unhidden thanks

One of those multi-purpose gizmos is overkill for this simple task (unless you already have one – I personally don't use them). Save (to any location you like) Gnarlodious's script as an app, and then slide that app into the sidebar of any Finder window. From then on one click on that sidebar alias toggles 'see invisibles' on and off. My script is virtually the same:
    set {currentSetting, toggle} to {do shell script ¬
        "defaults read com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles", "ON"}
if currentSetting is in "ONO" then set toggle to "OFF"
    try
-- If you know how to, optionally insert a 'whoosh' sound here.
        tell application "Finder" to quit
do shell script "defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles " & toggle
delay 0.25 -- Alter this value by trial & error to suit your Mac.
        tell application "Finder" to launch
    on error errTxt
        display dialog errTxt
    end try
Paste that block of green text (or Gnarlodious's) into Script Editor, hit your <enter> key and the text should now display in pretty colors with no error message. You can click on "Run" to test it. Save as an application with all the Options UNchecked.
If you know how to, give it a suitable icon – mine is a "switch".
Heed the warnings about interfering with 'invisible' items. Looking is fine, altering is only for those who know what they are doing – that's why they're invisible!

  • Where to find hidden character...

Where to find a update for this ?
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1899290?start=0&tstart=0
Right now i am looking for characters like
    "SOFT HYPHEN" Unicode: U+00AD, UTF-8: C2 AD
is there any alternative hidden charracter on a Mac ?
I now where to find the "Character Map" on a mac and all that...,  - but how to type in a hidden character on the keyboard... ?

You need to enable Unicode Hex Input in the Language & Text Input Sources preference pane. Also, check the box that shows the input menu in the menu bar.
After selecting Unicode Hex Input, you can hold down the option key while keying in 00AD and you get the character.
The other option is the Edit > Special Characters menu item. If you select the gear drop-down in the upper left corner of this panel, you can customize the left panel contents, including addition of Unicode Characters. Once you have that panel item added, you can select the Unicode character, and by double-clicking the Font Variation, it will appear at the current cursor position in your document.

  • Mackbook air can't find hidden network

I've been digging  in the forums now and went over old threads that where too old so I decided to start a new one.
I've  a MBA 13" and I have a wireless connection that is hidden with WPA2 -PSK with MAC filtering.
I've seen some people suggest not having passwords and just leaving it hidden, which is just crazy as you an have sniffers that can find hidden networks and I'm not prepared to give out free wireless fibre.
Has there been a solution to this? It would be nice if there was a tickbox that said "Can connect to hidden networks if saved in the list" as in dos box wireless settings.
Others have suggested keychain, what is this?

Have you tried clicking on the wi-fi icon on your top bar, and selecting "Join Other Network"? You will have to fill in all the info (network name, security info)
Also, click the "Remember this network" box.
***Also make sure your router is allowing the MAC address of your MBA wireless adapter. (found in About this Mac, System Information-More Info-System Report under the Wi-Fi subheader of Network)

  • Windows hidden files on a Mac

Hi.. i have a question on windows hidden files on a mac.. I know i can see them temporarily through finder using "file visibilty", but does anyone have any idea on how to change the files attributes to be permanently visible ? Pls help !

What is your reason to change these Hidden System files and folder to Non Hidden. IMHO it is a very foolish thing to do. Using ther T Command you were given displays all of them and if for some reason that command doesn't then use this one.
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -bool true (Replace true with false to turn off
    killall Finder to implement either)
So with them displayed changing the hidden attribute may only cause you troubles.
    jbalawi wrote:
Thnx Wjosten.. That makes me able to view them.. But they are still transparent compared to other visible files.. So is there any way where we can change their preferences or settings to make the transparent files look like the normal visible files ?

  • Mailbox on the Mac

I have noticed I have used a lot of disk space. My itunes and iphoto libraries are on a external HD. I am wondering if my On My Mac mailboxes are the hard drive. Where can I find these mailboxes? Are they large files? Is having a mailbox On the Mac the best way to work with a Gmail account?
    Thanks.

Your On My Mac mailboxes are indeed on the hard drive (in home/Library/Mail, to be precise), but it's rare that they are the main cause of low HD space. Use something like OmniDiskSweeper to find out where your largest folders and files are.
Generally, it's advisable to use IMAP mail account type with GMail. That way, you get access to all your Gmail folders within Mail. The folders and messages are stored on the server but copied to your Mac for quick access. There's no real difference in the amount of space either IMAP or POP takes up, though.

Sounds like the movie didn't finish downloading before the Wi-Fi signal dropping ...
Try re downloading. You won't be charged again.

Can I search (find) my ipad from my mac air? I know there is an app for iphone or ipad but, how you do it from a Mac Air?

Absolutely you can. It is part and parcel to iCloud's functionality on the Air.
Set-up iCloud on the Mac and log into iCloud. The i{ad itself must also be properly registered with your Apple ID.
