Finding Imported CD in iTunes 11

I just imported a Vanessa Williams CD (The Real Thing).  When I search for it under album, it is listed.  When I search under artist, the album is not listed under Vanessa Williams.

The whole upgrade seems to be designed to make everything difficult. To get imported CDs onto an ipod, I'm having to create a playlist and drag the files from the hard drive to this playlist; then delete the playlist. And it all worked so well two weeks ago.

Found the answer for you today as I was looking for the answer myself.  If you go to the menu you will see a option to "Show menu bar".  Click this to get a few functions to show up.  Click on file and in the drop down menu you will find "Library".  Hover over that to get the import option to show up!  Hope this helps!

Did you purchase them on your iPad with the same Apple ID that you are using for iTunes on your iPhone and that iTunes on your Mac is sign into?

You can't do it in one step. Add to iTunes first, Once the tracks are in iTunes you may convert to a different format.

  • Can't import music to iTunes

This is something that recently started happening. I record a radio show with Audio Hijack pro. I import it to iTunes and it plays fine. I then find a small selection that I'd like to edit and keep. I open Fission and do my editing and save it. It saves under the name I assign it. I try to import the new file to iTunes and it doesn't load in to iTunes because the tag is still the same as the original file. I found this out when I used Finder to "Get Info." I changed the tagged name of the original file that is still residing in iTunes and then tried importing the new file to iTunes again. No go. I then double clicked the file in Finder to get it to play in iTunes. It played, but strangely enough, it didn't appear in the Music Library, but it did appear in the "Recently Added" section of the iTunes window. I used that appearance to change the Tags completely. I checked the "Music Library" after that, but the selection still did not appear. I tried dragging it from "Recently Added" to the Library, but it didn't work. I also tried dragging it to my iPod, but that didn't appear to work either.
I then tried a work-around and created a playlist with that selection and another selection and dragged that playlist over to the 'pod. The selection appeared on the 'pod, but only within the playlist, not the 'pods music library. I could play the new selection only via the playlist. It is still invisible to iTunes.
Does anyone have any idea why this should be? Am I missing a step in in the editing process? Could this be tag related and is there a way to edit the tags prior to importing to iTunes?

I too was having this problem, importing files to my iTunes.  These were songs that I had on CD and had ripped.  The first problem was that they were in .WAV format.  I converted the files to .m4a (I also tried .mp3) and I still couldn't import.  I put the files in a folder named after the album, nested in another folder named after the band in the iTunes/iTunes Media/Music folder.  (For example, The Doors/L.A. Woman) but then when I went to import the files into my iTunes library, like the above poster, absolutely nothing would happen, no error messages or anything.  But I noticed the folders I had previous created, The Doors/ L.A. Woman, where gone.  Finally I realized that because my files were not tagged with the Artist or Album iTunes was moving the files to a folder called Unknown Artist/Unknown Album, under the iTunes/iTunes Media/Music folder.  Unknown Artist doesn't show up in the iTunes artist list.
What I did to fix this, was to play the song, in iTunes, right click on it and select "get info".  Once the song is tagged properly with the Artist and Album, it will show up in the iTunes library AND it will actually create folders with the Artist and Album, on your hard drive, under iTunes/iTunes Media/Music AND move the song to this folder.  There's probably a lot of other ways to tag the files, such as from the Recently Added playlist, by making a new playlist for the album or external software.  I hope this helps someone from stratching their head as much as I was!

  • Can't import videos to iTunes!??

I've been trying to import videos to itunes and for some reason they just won't go in! I have tried dvdrips and already converted to mp4 files on my harddrive, i've even downloaded the sample movie from the apple website to try and import that.
When i go to import in the fille menu, find the file and click choose absolutely nothing happens. the finder window closes and thats it. the same happens for add to library function. i have the most up to date version of itunes and my brother has the same mac ipod and itunes version and can do it just fine exactly the same way as i am trying. pretty frustrating can anyone help?? pleases?

Have you tried using the Finder? Just drag the video files onto Library in the sidebar. iTunes can be unresponsive - don't drop the files until Library (or Movies) turns blue and you see a green dot with a plus sign on your cursor.
Once your movies are in iTunes, you can convert them to iPod format. Select the movie under Movies, then choose Advanced > Convert Selection to iPod.

  • Error message when trying to import CD into itunes

Error message when trying to import CD into itunes.  "Error occured while converting the file 'name of song' The required disk coannot be found"

    Hi Grigsby9,
Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. This error usually appears when your iTunes Media folder location is incorrectly configured in your iTunes Advanced preferences. Let’s check these preferences to makes sure that iTunes is point to a folder that exists:
Locate and organize your iTunes files - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/ht1391
Find and change the iTunes Media folder location
You can change the iTunes Media folder location to share music between accounts on the same computer.
    1.Mac OS X: Choose iTunes > Preferences.
    Windows: Choose Edit > Preferences.
    2. Click the Advanced pane.

  • Share/Send Song to iTunes no longer imports song to iTunes

Background: For a year now, i've used GB (3.0.5) to rip my vinyl, adjust tracks, etc and import tracks into iTunes (8.0.2). Never had a problem. Click Share/Send Song to iTunes, mix down starts, iTunes pops up and starts playing the new track~ Until...
Recently: i got a new external HD for xmas and this week i moved my iTunes Library over to it to make some room. Well, after finally getting rid of all my !-marks and finding my album artwork again- iTunes is running fine.
Now: 10 hours ago I ripped a new record in GB, split my tracks, etc and went to Share/Send Song to iTunes. Mix down starts, iTunes popped up but doesn't start playing the track!!!!!
I've been around the world trying to set a Preference here, update a Library there, googled every combination of this tale i could think of, searched the Support threads, and Nuthin.
This may be an iTunes problem. I may have messed up my Library. Will totally understand if i need to take my question to the iTunes section.
Just wondering how i can tell GB where to export the song so that it goes to my current iTunes library> Please Help!?

Solved My Own Problem: Garageband doesn't like it when you use ',/,() ,or "&" in the drive or folder names. Sorry, i thought this was resolved back in 1995.
    Thanks for looking here.

  • Can no longer find owners ipad on itunes to download my photos.  ????

Can no longer find "owners ipad" on itunes to download my photos from my computer.  Have friends who have the same problem.

Photos are not downloaded from iTunes.
Import them from the iDevice to your computer as you would with any other digital camera and leave iTunes out of the equation.

  • Can't find imported ringtones on phone

I give up.  I don't know what else to try.  HELP
I made a couple of ringtones with mymxr (converted mp3 to m4r).  I got the ringtones to show up in the "tones" section of iTunes (although at one point one of them appeared in the "movies" section).  ITunes seems to sync ok but I can't find these ringtones listed with the tones that came with the phone (iPhone 5s).  I'm a newbie at all of this apple stuff and while I've read of others trying to do something similar nothing I've tried over the last three days has worked.
I believe it's possible to convert some of my favorite tones from my Blackberry to the iPhone but I'm not having any luck accomplishing this.  Any insight as to how to make this happen would be gratefully received.

It IS in my itunes as a ringtone but will not sync to phone. I cannot drag and drop either but can with songs.
When I click on the phone device in itunes and get the tabs on the top, I go to ringtones. If I check the sync ringtones box a window opens stating that if I do sync ringtones all of my music and videos on the phone will be removed. Why is this? I did it with my wife's phone because she only had a couple songs on hers but I do not want to wipe all of my songs off. Is this the only way? I don't even need the ringtone on my phone but I am trying to figure out what to do so i can do it on my wife's phone.
Highlight the file in iTunes and open "get info" by cmd+click or right click>>get info.
Make sure that the extension of the file is .m4r
Since you are not able to drag it out of iTunes on your desktop, it tells me that the extension could be something else other than what it should be i.e. .m4r. Also, hence, when you try to add it to your iPhone the file is being treated as a music file thereby trying to replace what you have in your music section of your iPhone.
If the file extension is not .m4r, this is what you need to do -
    1. Locate the file on your macintosh hard drive for this -
    2. Click your finder>>music>>iTunes>>iTunes music and then look for a folder called Unknown.
Note - If your iTunes library is not "clean" with random songs without artists, albums, etc. you might have more than one folders by name "Unknown" or some variant of it. So look around and locate the file on the hard drive.
    3. Drag it out on your desktop
    4. Right click and change the extension to .m4r
    5. Save and double click so that it gets imported back into iTunes and starts playing too on your mac
    6. You will find it under Ringtones. Sync in back on your iPhone.
Hopefully it will go well for you this time around.

  • Unable to find imported files in music, even though they show up in playlists

I recently tried to import about 400 mp3s into iTunes so I can load them on my iPod.
It went through the process of importing the files, and I didn't see any of the new songs in iTunes.
I tried rebooting my computer, and they were still missing, however after that I plugged the iPod in to charge (which naturally also synced it) and then *ALL* music was gone off of the iPod itself - even my old songs which were already on it.  After another reboot and re-sync, now it's syncing all the music back to the ipod, and interestingly the new 400 songs are in the smart playlists (ones that specify 'media kind is music') however I cannot find them in music to put them in specific manual playlists (or even delete the file out of iTunes).
Can anyone help me find where these files are, or more importantly how to get them out of iTunes since they appear to be causing issues?  I some of them I would like to place in playlists, and some of them I may need to delete in the future.
This was the first time I did 'add folder to iTunes library' instead of 'add file to iTunes library".
I have the most recent update to iTunes (I believe it was just a couple days ago) and an iPod Touch 4th generation with the latest software update on that as well.

interestingly the new 400 songs are in the smart playlists (ones that specify 'media kind is music') however I cannot find them in music
iTunes is designed so that if a song is in a playlist, it must also be in the library.  However, you have encountered the new (and frustrating) bug whereby the "Music" view fails to correctly display new additions.
Some folks report that one or more system restarts clears the problem up.
There is a little more discussion here.

  • Garageband wont import song from iTunes

Hi,  I've imported songs from iTunes to Garageband many times by just selecting and dragging the song from iTunes into the GarageBand application window.  Not sure why... but now that does not work--GarageBand is not accepting the song when I drag it over.  Help!  I'm using iTunes 10.6.3 and GarageBand 4.1.2.
Update--just saw posting from HangTime with  link to instructions to highlight song in iTunes, select "Show in Finder" from the iTunes File pull-down menu, and then drag the song into the Garageband window from the Finder.  It worked. Just wondering (now) why GarageBand is not allowing me to simply drag a song into Garageband directly from iTunes.

Thank you for posting that 'update' Kingpalm. It just solved my (same) problem, today 1st January 2014!

  • Is it possible to IMPORT songs to iTunes all at once?

Obviously, one can add their whole music library to the iTunes library all at once, but even if you bought this music, if you did not IMPORT it using iTunes, it isn't registered as being owned by you. So, as a result, any music that you have added to your library without importing it is foreign to iTunes. It will not let you get cd track names, for example, without importing it using iTunes. This makes things very inconvenient, because apparently the only way that you can tell iTunes that you own music is by importing tracks one at a time. Having even dozens of songs, that is an extraordinary hassle. I personally have 60 GB of music, and could never hope to import files one at a time. If anybody knows of any ways of importing files to iTunes either all at once or in large chunks, please contribute to this thread. Additionally, if you share the same frustration as me, please add to the thread so I know I'm not the only one who is frustrated by this technicality.

If you're using iTunes 7, you can copy music that you purchased from the iTunes Store back to iTunes directly. You will have to prevent automatic synchronization. While connecting the iPod to the computer, hold down the Shift and Ctrl keys in Windows. This should stop the iPod from auto synching with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 3 and 25 seconds depending on your computer.
If you're not using iTunes 7 or want to copy other tracks, the easiest way will be to search VersionTracker for "iPod". You'll find a number of utilities that can transfer your tracks and your playlists from your iPod back to your PC.
It's also possible to do this manually, but the procedure is rather involved. If you're interested, though, see this thread:

Forum Tip: Since you're new here, you've probably not discovered the Search feature available on every Discussions page, but next time, it might save you time (and everyone else from having to answer the same question multiple times) if you search a couple of ways for a topic, both in the relevant forums, in the User Tips Library and in the Apple Knowledge Base before you post a question.

  • Import Files into iTunes: Why not mp3?

I created a simple workflow and saved it as a Finder plug-in. Two questions:
    1) Anyone know why iTunes allows (under +Add to Library+) the import of mp3 files, but when creating an Automator workflow using the +Import Files into iTunes+, the mp3 option is not supported. In other words, you have to use a different Automator function like +Add Songs to Playlist+. This works too, but it takes a long time because iTunes has to convert each file to AAC. The +Add to Library+ function in iTunes is wicked fast, and I don't care what format the files are in.
    2) After creating a Finder plug-in and wanting to delete it, where does it live? I can't find it. Spotlight can't find it. I just want to remove it.
    Thanks.

Thanks for the reply, red. It seems that +Import Audio Files+ supports mp3, but the description on the +Import Files into iTunes+ doesn't specifically include mp3. I suppose a quick test will reveal. The original reason for the question is that the Automator workflow seems to force a conversion of each mp3 file -- even when choosing the mp3 option in +Import Audio Files+ -- which obviously slows down the process.
When from iTunes I choose Add to Library, navigate to the target folder and click OK, iTunes completes the 80-or-so files in no time.
Thanks for the tip on where to find the plug-in. I deleted it. The Automator desktop apps seem to work better.
