Finding modified pictures in iPhoto

I am creating a webpage on iWeb and am trying to put edited pictures that are in my modified folders on the page, but I'm not sure how I can find my modified pictures in the media section. Whenever I want to access my modified pictures normally I do it through finder because I don't know how to find them in iPhoto. (It appears that I HAVE to use iPhoto in iWeb and can't directly import it from finder) I know they have to be there somewhere because I tried to drag the particular modified folder I wanted into iPhoto and it says it is already there. Also I notice when I search for a particular folder in finder the path that it got there was through iPhoto then either original or modified.
Sorry if that doesn't make any sense, I've been working on it for a bit now and just can't figure it out. Any ideas?

Okay so I found this thread and it helped for future reference as far as how I can save the files in a way that I can have the edited pictures in iPhoto http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2438840&tstart=0 My only question with that is, are my originals still somewhere? Also often I like to edit a picture a few different ways, is there a way that I can edit the same picture a few different ways and have them show up in iPhoto?
How can I get photos that I have already edited and "saved as" which I now know is a no-no. There is no way I can go back through and re-edit them all. There has got to be a way somehow to add my already edited but saved wrong pictures into iPhoto so I can put them on my iWeb page.

Restoring a backup is specific to the backup program you are using to do your daily backups - consult it's manual, help file or author's support site
Back up your iPhoto library, Depress the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - rebuild your iPhoto library starting with the first option and trying others until you are succesful

  • Syncing original (CR2) and modified pictures of iPhoto 6 on two computers

I've just faced a problem with iPhoto 6 and as I haven't found any good solution to it on Internet, I'd like to share with you all the solution I've finally applied.
I'm using iPhoto 6 both on my MacBook and my iMac. When I'm travelling I shoot in Canon Raw 2 (CR2) format, upload my pictures to my MacBook, and, eventually, I edit them in some way. When I arrive at home, I'd like to sync my iMac with Macbook's iPhoto library (both the original CR2 file and the modified files in jpg). However, this turns out to not be so easy.
I cannot just copy both the "iPhoto Library/Modified/YYYY/Rollname" and "iPhoto Library/Original/YYYY/Rollname" to iMac's iPhoto, because it isn't a file browser, but a database-based photo manager. If I import the "Original" folder with iPhoto and then copy the "Modified" folder with Finder, iPhoto won't recognise the modified picture, because according to its database that picture has never been edited.
The solution I've used it's been to import the "Original" folder, so that CR2 files are put into iPhoto. Then, modify in some random way all the images that I had edited on my Macbook (easyly identificable without the "RAW" tag), so that iPhoto will know which pictures are modified but I don't have to take care with the editing, just modify something. Next step would be to copy Macbook's "Modified" folder to the iMac. And finally, I have to execute iPhoto while keeping Command + Option keys down and select the two first options (regenerate thumbnails).
    Hope this helps someone

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Well, easier might be to simply use iPhoto Library Manager to move the pics, all the versions and attached metadata between libraries.
Standard warnng: Don't change anything in the iPhoto Library Folder via the Finder or any other application. iPhoto depends on the structure as well as the contents of this folder. Moving things, renaming things or otherwise making changes will prevent iPhoto from working and could even cause you to damage or lose your photos.

  • Can't find my pictures in iphoto

Helllo, I am new to the iMac and having some start up problems. I use photoshop cs4 for photo editing and I just edited a pic. I want to access it in iPhoto now but I can't find the picture. I try to import the new pic but it tells me it is already in the library. I go to search and type the filename and it doesn;t find anything This is really frustrating can someone help me?
    Thanks

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Below is the correct way to use Photoshop with iPhoto:
Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 6 the Saving File preferences should be configured: "On First Save: Save Over Current File". Also I suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.
If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu). This way you get the best of both worlds
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
The photos you've already edited with Photoshop are in the library but iPhoto doesn't know they are there. Also since they are inside the library package iPhoto assumes they have already been imported and won't import again.
If you can find just those photos you edited with PS and don't show up in iPhoto and move them to the desktop you can import them. However, do not rename, move or otherwise change the contents of the iPhoto library from the Finder. That is the cardinal sin if iPhotol

  • I cannot find my pictures in iphoto after downloading and delating from memory card....

I downloaded my pictures from memory card, and once it was done, iphoto asked me if I wanted to keep the pictures into the memory cart, I pressed no, and now I cannot find my pictures anywhere... Is there a way to find them back ?

    Hard to say
    Are they in last import?
do not use your memory card until you resolve this - you may want to use software like Media Recover to recover the images on the card
You can try Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - rebuild your iPhoto library database
For the future a best practice to is to never have any computer program (including iPhoto) delete the photos from the card but to import the photos and keep them and then after at least one successful backup cycle has completed and then reformat the card --  I use three very large (32 GB) cards in rotation so I do not reformat for typically a year or more giving me one more long term backup of my photos

  • I can't find my pictures on iPhoto

i downloaded photos from my phone (iPhone 5c) to my iMac OS X back in May and it was around 4000 photos. i clicked delete (when it had finished importing) so they would come off my phone and onto the computer. i have looked many times on iPhoto and can't find them. I'm not sure if it because i imported too many pictures or i did something wrong. if this has happened to anyone before where can i find them?

    Do the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down to open the First Aid window. Be sure to follow the circled recommendation in the screenshot.
    2 - run Option #4, Rebuild Database.

  • Screen saver can't find my pictures in iPhoto since I installed Lion

  • Spotlight do not find pictures in iphoto 11

I have notised that Spotlight does not find the pictures in iphoto 11. I'm running Lion 10.7.2. Solutions?

Well, perhaps Spotlight doesn't understand the iPhoto database with the tags and stuff (which it did in older versions). But it does understand the file package. It's just a package of files and folders after all.
If I create a new iPhoto library and import a couple of pictures, then in the Finder show the new iPhoto library package content and search for "jpg" and click on "new iPhoto Library" it returns a lot of hits, since it's indeed full of jpg files. The problem is that if I do the exact same thing with the old iPhoto library package - it returns zero hits.
Does it have to do with the iPhoto library moving from one disk to another, migrating? I don't know the answer, but it's really irritating. And I'm hoping someone knows the magic trick out there to fix it once and for all.

  • Trying to import pics from iphoto to imovie- can't import the PSE modified pictures.  I see them in iphoto.

Trying to import pics from iphoto to imovie- can't import the PSE modified pictures.  I see them in iphoto however they don't appear in the thumbnails in imovie.

Drag the PSE modified pictures from iPhoto to the Desktop. Open them in Preview then save as jpegs (File > Export - then choose Format JPEG). They may already be .jpg files, but are not readable by iMovie. Exporting them from Preview may fix this. Import the saved files to iPhoto - they should now work in iMovie.

  • How can I set up my Apple TV and iPhoto on my iMac so Apple TV can display pictures from iPhoto as a normal slideshow or as a Screen Saver?

I have an iMac and an Apple TV that is connected to the main iTunes library on the iMac.  My Apple TV is able to find all the music, videos and pictures that are on the iMac's internal hard drive - presumably via iTunes (music and videos) and directly accessing the Pictures folder.  So far, so good!
Recently, I have had to move a lot of my pictures to an external hard drive - and I had hoped that by 'importing' them into iPhoto (without physically duplicating them on the internal drive), I can still have my Apple TV "find" these pictures via iPhoto - and allow me to browse them as before or use them in my screen-saver.
However, while I can see them in iPhoto, my Apple TV seems to be unable to find them - and I am unable to see them on my TV.
So, is this even supported by Apple TV/ iPhoto?  Is there some configuration I am missing?  Or do I just need to boot up everything from scratch?  Any help would be appreciated!
    Thank you.

Thanks - I did not realize that Homesharing can be specifically set to a photo destination like that!
So, it would appear that I can either point it to iPhoto (and folders/ events within that) OR the default Pictures folder and subfolders of that OR any other specific folder (and subfolders of that) of my choice.  However, I cannot select BOTH the default Pictures folder (and some subfolder of that) AND a folder in iPhoto AND/ OR an event/ folder in iPhoto.  Is that a correct assumption?
If so, the only way I see getting homesharing to get both set of pictures is to get all my picture folders (internal and external drive based) into iPhoto (without physically duplicating them) - and then pointing Homesharing to iPhoto, right?
I think you have solved my issue - but I just want to be sure of that.
    Thanks a ton!

  • Modified pictures not updated in iPhoto

    Hi everyone,
I'm using iPhoto 11(9.3.2) to manage my photolibrary. Best tool ever.
For modifying my pictures, I use the external application Photoshop Elements 10(10.0)
Opening the external app, including the chosen picture works fine. Saving also.
However: if I try to see the modifications I've made (with PSE) in iPhoto: No modifications.
I found out that the modified picture was saved in the 'Preview'-folder (find it through finder)
So: Photoshop Elements seems to save the picture in that folder; not in the 'master' or 'thumbnail', and I don't know why, and how to change that.
Does anyone have a clue, how to solve this?
    Thanks for your advice!

Hi Terence, thanks for your comment so far.
No what I do is as follows:
In the external editor, I make the modifications.
After that I choose Save from the File menu.
    Then this screen appears:
So there is a field named Save as, NO save field. Whether I choose a different name filename, it doesn't make sense.
Now, while I was writing and figuring out the previous sentence, I found out what contributed to the problem:
The initial filename format in iPhoto is *.JPEG
When saving the edited picture in PSE, it automatically calls it *.jpg, so without the E.
If I add this E to the filename, it updates the thumbnail in iPhoto -> Problem solved.
But there is a strange extra to this:
the picture I was modifying was scanned on an HP All-in-one scanner. For these pictures, this problem occurs.
When editing a photo, which comes from either my iPhone, iPad or my Panasonic DMC-FZ38 there is no problem.
So I may come to the conclusion that somewhere in the scanningproces on the HP an 'invisible' tag or flag or something like that is added to the picture which may caus this problem?

I would like to see the added keywords under the picture like iPhoto does it. Is that possible? I cannot find an answer in Aperture 3.2.1

Hello Wontolla, I meant the Aperture main menu, there is a sub menu "View", see the Screenshot:
Set all flags in the Metadata Display submenu as I did,  to show Metadata in Viewer and Browser, and then select "Customize"
Pick the Metadata fields you want to display for all views.
Make sure, that "Contents -> Keywords" is checked.

  • Deleting a picture in iPhoto AND the file in the finder at once

How can I delete a picture in iPhoto and also delete the file of that picture in the finder in one step? In iTunes the program asks the question if the real file should be deleted also.

If you're running a Managed library then put the pic in the iPhoto trash and empty it. Note to do this you have to be viewing in an Event or Photos view, not in an album.
If you're running a Referenced Library, you can't. When you elected not to have iPhoto manage the files on import, you also elected not to have it manage the files on deletion.
Are you running a Managed or a Referenced Library?
A +Managed library+, is the default setting, and iPhoto copies files into the iPhoto Library when Importing
A +Referenced Library+ is when iPhoto is NOT copying the files into the iPhoto Library when importing because you made a change at iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced. In this scenario you are responsible for the File Management.
