Finding my photos
I have recently created a new profile on my computer and now Iphoto is asking me to specify a new iphoto library to draw from.. which is fine.. apart from the fact I cant find my old library so I have access to all my old photos.. There are now two profiles on the computer, one as a guest which I created for my girlfriend and my normal work one which I created a password for. My desktop remained the same and all other things as far as I can see for my new profile but the iphoto pictures seem to have gone. Any help on this front much appreciated.

The +entire point+ of having separate accounts on the Machine is to keep the data separate - so one person's library is private from another's.
You can share the Library in your Main Account:
For iPhoto 09 (version 8.0.2) and later:
What you mean by 'share'.
If you want the other user to be able to see the pics, but not add to, change or alter your library, then enable Sharing in your iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and use Fast User Switching to open the other account. In that account, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. Your Library will appear in the other source pane.
Any user can drag a pic from the Shared Library to their own in the iPhoto Window.
Remember iPhoto must be running in both accounts for this to work.
If you want the other user to have the same access to the library as you: to be able to add, edit, organise, keyword etc.
Quit iPhoto in both accounts. Move the Library to the Users / Shared Folder
(You can also use an external HD set to ignore permissions, a Disk Image or even partition your Hard Disk.)
In each account in turn: Double click on the Library to open it. (You may be asked to repair the Library Permissions.) From that point on, this will be the default library location. Both accounts will have full access to the library, in fact, both accounts will 'own' it.
However, there is a catch with this system and it is a significant one. iPhoto is not a multi-user app., it does not have the code to negotiate two users simultaneously writing to the database, and trying will cause db corruption. So only one user at a time, and back up, back up back up.

I just upgraded my iPad from 4.3.3 to the newest - I think 6.1.3. I cannot find my photos and videos. I tried a restore, but after 3 hours, it's timing out. Pardon my ignorance on asking this question; but is there a way to find my photos? I do nto care about anythign else.
Here are the steps I though I took this morning:
Backup iPad
Connect to iTunes and downlaod newest version of iTunes and then newest iOS
restart Vista Laptop
upgrade to newest iOS
I knew somethign was wrong when it took about 6 hours to upgrade the iPad
at the end it errored with this message error (-50), but the upgrade worked
I was expecting to see all my photos but didn't see them
I have tried a restore to a back up 2 times. The first time took 3 hours and just sort of timed out - it kept saying that there was an hour to go
I tried it again 2 hours ago and same message.
They are very valuable to me and so now I am panicking

Or, follow this article by Microsoft: How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) to reset the packet size back to the default for Windows.
Connect your computer directly to your Internet source, bypassing any routers, hubs, or switches. You may need to restart your computer and modem to get online.
Try to restore from another known-good computer and network.

How can I find duplicate photos without going through all 5000 one at a time?
How can I find duplicate photos withough going through all 5000 one by one? I have numerous duplications and used to be able to click on Edit and Find Duplicates and could clean up all the duplicates easily. Now that option is gone. I still have lots to delete.
I do backup everything using Carbonite.Please don't tell me it is bad, too :-) Also, especially with photo files, I do have other backups of those I am concerned about. Probably not the best in the world, but a log better than many people who I know about.
Again, I really have not seen any problems with MacKeeper. I imagine that if people do not read and follow instructions, they could have problems. For example, it is possible to scan all your files and see them in order of size. If you start deleting things, without knowing what you're deleting, you could cause trouble. Even when the computer scans for so-called junk files, you can look at them and decide for yourself if they are truly junk. I've never seen any that were not.
So, I will look at the complaints anyway to see them. I am open to change, although I hope I do not need to drop Mackeeper as it does things like keeping tracking of applications updates that I need. Please note that I definitely am not a MacKeeper employee or anything close. Just using it and happy with the the results.
I did download the recommend file for finding photo dupes and ran it. There were very few duplicates, in any case, As I said before, the MacKeeper dupe finder was very slow when I ran it over ALL my files. That was a year ago and it did find many non-text dupes. -
How can I redirect LR to find my photos, which I just moved.
Long story, but when I set up my new computer (Win 7/64) I found myself with two My Pictures folders, one nested inside the other, on my data drive. The photos were in the second or inner folder. No big deal except having to click twice to get the images files. Well, then I loaded LR 5.2 which set up its Catalog inside the outer folder, and really really wanted to load downloaded photos there as well. No problem, I though, I'll just opent the inner My Pictures folder, cut the files, then paste them in the outer folder along with the LR catalog. A benefit is I can backup the Catalog at the same time as the photos. Welllll, not. LR can no longer find the photo locations, althoug it can still find its catalog. How do I redirect LR to the right location for all the photo files, including of course, those that I've already imported. Is there anything I need to do with the catalog as well?

The much simpler approach is to not move photos at all, then you never have this problem. It's simple and effective. -
I cannot find a photo I did a lot of work to create. I have several libraries that look similar but I found at least one photo that was in one and not the others. Can someone tell me if I can merge these libraries, and how, and what to watch for that might cause problems.

Backing up does not transfer your photos to your computer, if you don't want to enable photo stream, you will need to transfer your photos when your device is connected to your computer using iTunes. -
How do I find a photo in new iOS7 photo app?
Can anybody help with the new Photo app on iOS7?
I have about 5000 photos taken around the world over the last fifty years. With the old Photo app, if I wanted to find a photo taken in (say) Argentina it was easy - just go to Places view, zoom to Argentina on the map, zoom to where I took the photo, and then click on a red pin. The map was a fabulous intuitive tool to easily find photos.
How do I do this now? The only way I have found is in "collections" where I have to try to remember what year I took the photo then squint through pages of minute thumbnails. I usually give up without finding the photo. Is there not an easier way?I rang Apple support today about this issue. After a great deal of polite argument with a senior support person, Apple have agreed to exchange my iPhone 4S and iPad 2 for reconditioned replacements that still have OS6.1.3 on them, and so still have the Photo Map.
They accepted my argument that they should have warned in their own description of OS7 that Photo Map (and Wikipedia search on Spotlight) had been removed.
I am therefore off to the local Apple Store tomorrow to pick up the reconditioned items. -
How do I find which photo iPhoto is telling me I have a problem with?
I'm trying to buy a book I've formatted, but in place of the filename, it just calls it "(null)".

I have accidentally erased a photo. It happened after the backup.I am not aware you can extract a single photo or a single app's content from the backup, you can either restore the whole backup to your phone or not restore. If you restore your last backup to your phone then any content that is currently on your phone will be replaced with what was on it at the time that the backup was made - so if you do decide to restore, first copy off any purchases to your computer's iTunes via File > Transfer Purchases, and copy any documents/files that you've udpated on the phone since the backup.

Error message when compiling book "file is corrupt" referring to a photo. Or "cannot find original photo". Can you use photos that have been "edited" out of "Book Mode"?
I did copy it to my desktop, but it still won't let me open it. I think the file on the disc might be corrupt or something like that though the cd itself checks out fine as far as viruses go. I was able to verify the disc, but that's about it. My husband tried it on his iMac and we have the same issue. It's unzipping the folder, but won't let us open the folder on both the Mac Book Pro or the iMac by double clicking, going to file/open or right clicking. It just keeps saying the same message as I posted above. I think I'm just going to have the client put the pictures on either a memory card or a USB memory stick so she won't have to compress the files for zipping purposes. It's been too frustrating trying to open this folder on this cd she gave me. She said she created/zipped the cd on her Mac Book Pro but it sure won't open on mine.

I upgraded to Maverick O/S and I can no longer right click on iPhoto images to find my photo files. My photo files are not where they were before upgrade.
Have you checked the sorting settings to make sure they are as you expect?

In addition the US Supreme Court has ruled that making a copy of a DVD for personal use or as a backup is perfectly legal, we've been doing that with CDs for as long as it has been possible, same for video tapes.
What is illegal is breaking any DRM protection on the media (this holds true for all media not just DVDs) and actually even this is a bit murky. What is definitely illegal is to sell software to break DRM. However if you write your own DRM breaking software and use it to make personal copies or backups the law gets real gray.
So again as long as there is no DRM involved its OK, with DRM you're best to leave it alone.

Envy 5530 can't find scanned photos on my windows 7 PC
I have just got my printer and want to scan some very old photos into my PC. The printer screen says 'scan to computer or others'. I chose computer and scanning started but I can't find my photo anywhere. I was not asked where to put the photo or any other info about my computer. I also tried the 'other' option but a message asking me to ensure the software had been installed. I ran the disc that came with the computer to start with. I can print from my PC and ipad. Help please.

Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
It is very strange that your HP Envy 5530 is scanning but your photos cannot be found anywhere on your computer. Because you have run the Full Feature Software and Driver install for your product is does appear that everything is installed as it should be.
When you're scanning from the Front Panel of the product it will scan automatically to the default 'save to' location. With the HP Scan software the default 'save to location' for JPEGS is your pictures folder. With PDF files the default location is your Documents folder.
Also, when you select 'Scan' from the front panel of the printer and choose Computer it should display your computer name to select as the computer you want to scan to. To find out your computer name you can:
Click on your Start menu
Right click on Computer
Left click on Properties
Near the bottom it will display 'Computer name' - this is the name you should be selecting on the front panel of your product.
I'm going to provide you with a document for step-by-step instructions for scanning from the Front Panel on the printer:
Scan From the Control Panel for HP ENVY 5530 e-All-in-One
Once the scan has completed successfully it should automatically launch the 'save to' file location on your computer. Please be advised that this may take a few moments to open.
Should this still not work than please try to scan from the HP Scan Software on your computer so we can ensure functionality:

If the Front Panel scan or the HP Scan don't work for you than you need to run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool to 'fix scanning'. This tool will automatically detect and attempt to fix different scanning issues that can arise with the printer or with the computer.

I move folders from my internal hard drive twice to an external hard drive. Now I believe Lr does not know how to find my photos. What can I do to get this cleared up.
Jim has a very good suggestion. There are many factors at work here:
1) How are you connecting the external drive to the computer?
2) How big are files (329 x 1MB is not the same as 329 x 25MB)?
3) What is your computer specification?
4) Do you have any power saving settings on (in particular something that would send the computer/hard drives to sleep)? -
I cannot find my photos or contacts. Help how do I get them back after a iclound backup was done due to needed to get a new iphone. HELP
I believe I had leopard and I was having issues getting errors of system not being supported. I contacted Apple and was advised I needed to upgrade to snow leopard. My laptop is from 2009 and I haven't done anything to it till now. The apple rep also stated I should do a fresh install when putting snow leopard on so my laptop would run faster. Apple rep told me to get a external hard drive to put my info on it so the fresh install would reset everything to like it was brand new. I had someone help me with getting everything on the EHD.. doing the right format and such and then once that was done I put in the CD for snow leopard and hit install. Which brings me to now, with everything but my pictures. I have the EHD plugged in... now what? What do I do? I have looked in the EHD in iphoto and it was all standard images *not my pictures but images of a check mark or an arrow again not actual pictures. I don't see a folder pictures and i looked for images and found nothing. I have Applications, Included Free Designs, Library, System, User Guides and Information and Users, those are my options and non of those have a "pictures"

Tap the Photos icon in the Dock at the bottom of of the screen.
If you don't see the photos there, tap Settings > iCloud
Turn Photo Stream off then back on then restart your iPad.
Hold the power button until "slide to power off" appears. Slide to power off. After it is off, press the power button to turn it back on
