Well you may think that what you wrote was clear, but two of us, both long term posters on the site, were not at all clear what you meant.
when you open "share a picture" on fb or so, finder opens a dialogue window including Devices = Media = Photos => carry on
No, that's not what happens. The Finder does nothing. What happens there is the web browser opens a dialogue window. That allows you access to two different things: a: the file system and b: the iPhoto, Aperture and iTunes libraries.
So, again, that's not the Finder doing anything, that's the app you're using.
Next: The Media heading is not a sub-heading of Devices. That's not Devices -> Media, that's just Media. Devices is a heading for connected devices, Media is a heading for the apps I mention above.
So, you would not look under Devices in the Finder.
There is no Media heading in the Finder. That's because you have chosen to use apps like iPhoto, Aperture or iTunes to manage this media, not the File Manager (the Finder).
So, again, the Finder gives you access to material managed by the File Manager.
But if you use iPhoto. Aperture or iTunes, then you've chosen not to manage this material with the File Manager.
Therefore you access and/or manage this material with the appropriate application - that is iPhoto, Aperture or iTunes as appropriate. In other words, these apps replace the Finder for working with this media.
So, now you have a simple choice:
Do you
1. Want to just manage all this material with the File Manager?
or
2. Learn how to use these apps?
Let me know and I'll point you in the right direction.

  • Can't find my pics in finder

whenever i try to upload pics to the internet I can't find them in finder, I usually end up having to drag them from iphoto and putting them on my desktop, just so I can locate them finder. There's got to be an easier way, but where are they?! Thanks!!

Where on the internet are you trying to upload to? There are numerous ways to access your photos for use outside of iPhoto. The following is from one of Terence Devlin’s posts on file access for use outside of iPhoto. It’s the definitive treatise on the subject.
Since iPhoto 7 (iLife 08) the old iPhoto Library Folder is now a Package File. This is simply a folder that looks like a file in the Finder. The change was made to the format of the iPhoto library because many users were inadvertently corrupting their library by browsing through it with other software or making changes in it themselves.
Accessing the iPhoto Library Folder directly has never been supported in any version of iPhoto.
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
For Users of 10.5 and later
You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
For users of 10.4 and later ...
Many internet sites such as Flickr and SmugMug have plug-ins for accessing the iPhoto Library. If the site you want to use doesn’t then some, one or any of these will also work:
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. However, if you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running:
For users of 10.6 and later:
You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu. Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and later:
Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
    1. Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. Show File: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.
All of the above are a: faster and b: Safer than rooting around in the old Library Folder.

  • Finding iPhoto stored pics using Finder

Thanks to all in advance for what is probaby a simple answer / solution.
In June, I upgraded everything in order to be "cloud" compliant. This included iLife so I am running iPhoto '11. Prior to this upgrade, I was able to locate photos with Finder by clicking on "Photos" --> "Original" (or modified) --> The year --> FilmStrip name. Any new download from the camera would be placed in that fashion. That made it easy for me to locate photographs to attach to emails when not using Apple's Mail (Web-based hotmail).
Since I upgraded, I can follow the same string except the new iPhoto saves it differently after the "the year" portion of the search. It gives it an arbitrary number (as near as I can figure), then subfiles with other arbitrary numbers and then a longer string which I presume is time / date stamping. I have included screen shots  below so that my inadequate explanation  makes more sense. You can see the pics stored prior to the upgrade easily recognizable from FilmStrip folders.
My question is: why? Is there a way to change how the files are stored? Basically reverting back to the utterly easy to understand way that makes Apple such a wonderful tool for me!
I also apologize in advance if this has been asked before. I tried a number of search strings to locate something like this and it might show my naivete in not being able to find the solution to my own problem.
    Cheers,
    -Tod

Why? Because they decided to, really. You must have updated from v6 or earlier. iPhoto now uses large amounts of virtualisation in its operations.
But it doesn’t matter - and never did.
Directly accessing the photos via the Finder is not supported - nor has it ever been. Basically, the iPhoto Library has no user serviceable parts within it.
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:   You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
There's a similar option in Outlook and many, many other apps.
For users of 10.6 and later:  You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation  which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu.
Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and 10.5 Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
Show File:  a. On iPhoto 09 and earlier:  Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.    3.b.
b: On iPhoto 11 and later: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
All of the above are a: a whole lost faster and b: a whole lot safer than rooting around in the old folders of the iPhoto Library   Regards  TD

  • Can't find iPhoto pics in new MBPro

I just got a new MBPro 13 Retina and had Apple do the data migration from my old MBPro. However, I can't find the pics on either computer. Where are they?

I have no idea. But have you used Sptlight to search for .jpg? Have you opened iPhoto on the new Mac.
Also download ansd install EasyFind and search for iPhoto Library.photolibrary. It should be in your Username folder under Pictures.
Open a Finder window and go to the folder Users, do you see 2 user names there or just one?

    Welcome to the forum!
You could try rebooting device by holding down power button for 8 seconds until 3 vibrations felt.
This issue has been raised several times, although there appears to be no single solution to it unfortunately:/t5/Nseries-and-Symbian-Smartphones/N8-can-t-find-my-saved-photos-and-videos/td-p/857145

  • Finding home computer in Finder

At Jobs' keynote of Leopard, I saw how you are able to log onto your home computer and get your documents, files etc. How is this done?
I have setup both my laptop and my iMac so I (admin and user) can see all files, but I can't find my iMac in finder.
Can anyone tell me how to make it work?
Thanks! Any help is much appreciated.

You can also drag and drop from the iPhoto Window to the Mail message window. You can then resize the additional pics in the Mail message window at lower right. iPhoto doesn't even have to be running if you use a media browser. You can create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use THIS

  • HT201304 Hi! My My mom bought me an iPhone 5 and I have a problem with my facetime I cant find it! Cant find it in settings and restrictions. She bought this in Bahrain both my iPhone and she ipad mini and she has facetime on her. What should I do?

Hi! My My mom bought me an iPhone 5 and I have a problem with my facetime. I cant find it! Cant find it in settings and restrictions. I remember when she gave me this I see facetime in settings and after a couple of days its gone! She bought this in Bahrain both my iPhone and her iPad Mini. And I'm just wondering why she has facetime and why mine is missing? Please help! My iMessage is perfectly working. I lived in the Philippines

Are you trying to use the phone in Bahrain with a supported carrier there? I suspect not. If you try to use this phone outside of Bahrain, you won't have FaceTime. This is done to prevent folks from simply crossing the border to purchase iPhones in Bahrain...FaceTime is banned in Saudi Arabia & the UAE. Sorry, but you'll only have FaceTime on that phone while using it in Bahrain on a supported carrier's network there.

  • File can not be moved by drag and drop in the finder when not open Finder windows

With the operating system OSX Snow Leopard, it was possible, for example, a file from the desktop to pull drag and drop on the Finder icon, the page opened after a short and you could put the file in a folder.
At this stage I must first open the Finder to drag a file into the destination folder.
Is it a setting or is there anything wrong with my Mountain Lion properly?
It is often the case that several windows of other applications are open or in Fullscreen are, then I would, as I also already knew and am accustomed, for example a file regardless of the location from which drag drag and drop in the Finder without leaving the / program / site to open the Finder, before returning to the file then select I wanted to move.
Note: For all other programs it works.
Finder not only in where it makes the most sense.
Picture 1: Finder window opens when you drag a file to the Finder icon
Picture 2: Finder icon flashes but the Finder window does not open. Finder windows have previously by clicking on the icon in the Dock will be open to pull a      file into it.
Thanks in advance for your help :-)

Yes, all I can tell you is that Finder does not have that function in ML. Your system is "working as expected".
    You can file feedback here.
