Finding original Fireworks .pngs from Dreamweaver?

I'm taking over another person's work and they built the
designs in Fireworks. I have an HR page that has photos that get
updated all the time (lots of turnover I guess) and I'm not really
a Fireworks guys (use Photoshop) and I've kinda figured out that
there is a ".mno" (I think that's what it is) file that stores the
metadata to show where the .gif or .jpg was made from the Fireworks
.png file.
I guess my question is, in matters of workflow, how do I
efficiently set up a .PNG file (from scratch) that saves its slices
in either .jpg or .gif, with the "here is the path to the original
.png" flag so when I come back to editing the .html in DW, I can
see a flag that says "find the original .png on Hard Drive 2"?
I just did a search on OSX Spotlight for the image file and
it came up with the same named file as .mno or something like that.
When I opened that as a text doc, it gave a path, which fortunately
helped me find the original .png this time, so I didn't need to
rebuild the image from scratch. I did this through the "back door"
of using OSX's search function.
There are times I'm so busy, I need to find stuff fast. How
do I find original .pngs from .jpg/.gif images made in Fireworks,
easily?
How do I set up a good workflow from FW to DW?
Thanks in advance,
nick

> How do I set up a good workflow from FW to DW?
Export the graphics from FW and place them on the page in DW.
Don't worry
about any more than that. Trying to use FW to write your HTML
gets everyone
into deep trouble.

  • Convert fireworks *.PNG to Dreamweaver xhtml file???

I have a fireworks *.png image which I would like to export
into Dreamweaver MX. The fireworks artwork was provided by the
designer to use in a Dreamweaver based website. This *.png file
containes menues, images with their respective placeholders, text
blocks and other individual items that can and should remain
editable. I want to export the *.png into Dreamweaver and edit it
in Dreamweaver by changing fonts to text, moving around images and
frames, etc. Is this possible? So far, all I am getting is a flat
uneditable *.jpg or Html file with unselectable text and images. I
am obviously a beginner and would appreciate any direction. Thanks
    in advance.

    open the .png in Fireworks.
file-->Export Preview and follow the steps to export
    "images and html"
that will give you an html file and images you then open in
    dreamweaver.

  • Can not set source file for Fireworks png in Dreamweaver

I recently purchased Adobe Design Premium CS5 to replace my CS3, but I have a big
problem.  When I export a png in Fireworks to Dreamweaver it does not set the source
file correctly.  It places the Fireworks object on the page, but when I select the table
that holds the Fireworks object, the path for the source on the Properties panel is
wrong - it says menu2.png.  The correct document relative path is dress_images/menu2/menu2.png.
When I drag the Point to File icon over the menu2.png on the Files panel, it correctly displays
the full path, but when I let go of it, it sets the path back to menu2.png.  I can not even type it
in the source box and get it to stay.
Here is the problem.  When I click on the Edit button, it says it can't find the png.  It is using
the full path from the C: drive instead of the document relative path.  If I browse to the png file
and open it in Dreamweaver then click the Done button, it saves the png file but does not change
any of the content on the HTML page.
Fireworks and Dreamweaver CS3 worked perfectly here.  Help!
I just tried to do this on another computer.  This time when I pasted the Fireworks HTML onto the
page in Dreamweaver it set the path correctly (it was a root relative path instead of a document
relative path).  I tried to edit in Fireworks using the Edit button, and it opened Fireworks without
any problem.  I made some changes then clicked the Done button.  Now the Done button is suppose
to be like magic.  It is suppose to save the changes to the png file, make the changes on the HTML
page in Dreamweaver, and change any of the supporting files (images) that have been edited.  It
always worked this way in CS3, and anything less than this would be a huge step backwards.  In this
case, it saved the changes to the png, but did not make any other changes.  The web page in
Dreamweaver is still the same.  How do I get the Done button to work its magic using CS5.
Another problem - when I paste the code onto the page, the page looks totally messed up.  If I save it
and reopen it then it looks fine.  However, this never occurred with CS3.  Aren't updates to software
    suppose to be improvements?
    Thanks.
    Nathan

Yes, the web site is correctly defined in Dreamweaver.  I teach web design for both high school and
adult school, and I have done this procedure 100's of times with CS3.  There is something different with
CS5.  I took your suggestion and imported the Fireworks HTML using Insert -> Image -> Fireworks HTML,
but it still does not work.  I can edit it in Fireworks, hit the Done button, and the png file is saved but
the HTML page remains the same.
Also, the export does not get the path right, and it will not let me set the path right.  The only way the path
is right is if the page that I am pasting the Fireworks HTML is in the same folder as the png.  It always
sets the png's path as menu.png.  Therefore, if the page is in a different folder, the document relative path
won't find it.  This was never a problem with CS3.  In fact, you could paste the code using Control-V and it
would work 100% of the time.  That is how we always did it.  When exporting from Fireworks, I would set
Export to "copy to clipboard" then move to Dreamweaver, click where I wanted the code pasted and do Control-V and presto it would
always work.  You could come back a month later, select the table, click the Edit button, make changes
in Fireworks, click the Done button and the changes would be reflected on the HTML page in Dreamweaver without
doing anything more.  I have tried it with "copy to clipboard" and I have tried it with "export HTML file".  Neither
works.  There is definitely something different between CS3 and CS5, and right now I am missing CS3.
Thanks for your help.  I will keep fighting this until I get it, but any additional input would be appreciated.

  • Editing fireworks files from dreamweaver

I am using CS3 on an iMac with an Intel core 2 duo processor
and 2GB of RAM. I created a fireworks file which I then imported
into Dreamweaver. The problem starts when I select the table and
click edit to take me back to fireworks. I get the following
warning dialogue in Fireworks: "Please reinstall your software. A
problem was detected with your application. Please reinstall this
software to correct the problem." I have reinstalled Fireworks but
this dialogue is still coming up. Can anyone help me?

First off, it's usually a poor decision to use FW HTML,
    unless you know
enough HTML to be able to anticipate and correct the problems
    you will
encounter with that FW-generated markup. Of course, if you
    know enough HTML
to do that, you would just do it all in DW, which is the
    right thing to do
    anyhow.
What version of DW and FW are you using?

  • Saving Fireworks PNG as PSD

I have a Fireworks png file that i am trying to save out as a
psd. I can do so, but when I open in Photoshop, the layer groups I
created in my Fireworks png file are not preserved. The layers stay
put, but photoshop ignores the layer folder (or groups) and puts
them all in one big bucket. Is there a way to preserve the layer
groups during my saving to psd process?
Also, I have text in my png file that uses -4 letterspacing.
When I save as PSD, and open in Photoshop, the letterspacing
changes to -40. Anyway to get around this? I need to text to remain
    editable is photoshop also.

I've written three different tutorials for CMX that deal with
    converting
complex PNG files to PSD files. Fireworks has both LAYERS and
    OBJECTS,
while Photoshop is really just layer-based. With the current
    version of
FW there is no way that I know of to preserve this hierarchy
    when you go
from PNG to PSD, but you can recreate the same set up
    manually once the
file has been saved as a PSD and opened in Photoshop.
    Here's how I tackled it:
1 Start by making sure that all objects are ungrouped (to
    avoid any
object flattening in the Save as PSD process) and
    individually named,
because FW will use these names for the layers it creates
    when the PSD
    file is made.
2 Save the file as a psd file.
3 Launch Photoshop and open the newly created PSD file. Keep
    the
original PNG file open in Fireworks
Create and Fill Your Layer Groups
4 Refer to the original Fireworks PNG file and create a
    series of empty
Layer groups that will mimic the Layer/object hierarchy of
    the PNG file.
5 Name each group as seen in the PNG file. The easiest way to
    create
empty Layer Groups without nesting them within each other is
    to press
the Create New Group icon at the bottom of the Layers
    Palette. This icon
looks like a file folder. To save time, you can double-click
    on the
layer names in Fireworks, copy the name and then double-click
    on the
Layer group name in Photoshop and paste the text.
6 Once the groups are named expand the layers in the PNG so
    you can see
the objects within each layer. Find the matching layers in
    the Photoshop
file, select them and begin dragging them into the
    appropriate groups.
If you leave any objects/layers invisible in Fireworks when
    you save as
a PSD, they are still exported and will still remain hidden
    when you
    open the file in Photoshop.
For more detail (and pictures) you can check out this article
    on CMX.
It's based on converting one of our JumpStarts to a PSD file,
    but the
workflow is applicable to any FW PNG file.

  • Opening Fireworks .png file from Dreamweaver

Anybody have problems with the connectivity between Fireworks
and Dreamweaver? I have a Retail version of Macromedia Studio 8.
I've been designing a new site and noticed that my fireworks .png
file is not updating from my changes in Dreamweaver (probably
because I cannot open from the edit button in Dreamweaver.) When I
try to open the .png file from the Edit button at the bottom of the
Properties Panel in Dreamweaver it gives me an Error Message :
Unable to Launch. Please be sure that the application exists and
    that there is enough memory.
Obviously the only benefit of Macromedia suite is the
connectivity. Well, since I don't have it it is sucking. Was it a
misinstallation on my part? Anybody know what's happening here or
    how to fix?
    Thanks,
    JP

Copy the file off the server, then open it?
And what version of Photoshop are you using?  On what OS version?
Most likely this is a bug in the OS or server software that just shows up because of the asynchronous file IO used by Photoshop (to improve performance).

I¹ve created a graphic in Fireworks CS3 on the Mac and

When you export the sliced graphics from Fireworks it places
    them into a
table. In my instance the code says...
    <!-- fwtable fwsrc="Brands.png" fwpage="Page 1"

ŒDone¹ button over the window. You do your alts and

  • Opening Fireworks from Dreamweaver CS5

I am trying to open Fireworks CS5 from within Dreamweaver CS5.
When I do I get an error message that says that "Fireworks is unable to be launched or an error has occured"
I am running Windows 7 Pro 64 bit system.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
When I originally tried to open Fireworks (either directly or from Dreamweaver) I got the following message:
"Your user privileges do not allow Fireworks to update your registry. Launch and Edit with Dreamweaver will not work properly unitl Fireworks is launched while using Administrative privileges."
I got the following advice - Try right-clicking on the Fireworks.exe icon, then select 'Properties', select 'Compatibility' and then under the section 'Privilege Level', put a tick in the box 'Run this program as administrator'.
I have done what was suggested but now every time I open Fireworks I get the same Windows User Account Control message as follows:
"Do you want to allow the following program to make changes to this computer" - Program name Fireworks. When I say yes the program opens OK.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
By the way everything works OK on my laptop running a Windows XP Pro 32 bit system.

Further to previous posting the error message I get when I try to launch Fireworks from Dreamweaver is:
    "C:\Program Files\(x86)\Adobe\Adobe Fireworks CS5\Fireworks.exe
Please be sure that this aplication exists and that there is enough memory to run it."
Photoshop launches OK from Dreamweaver. Fireworks is the default image application.

    Mac OS 10.8.5
None of these issues are causing the error in DW CS6. We have double checked all of them and we have everything exactly right. Also I have exactly the same SiteSetup in DW CS4 and that works perfectly well. Could there must be factor in 6 that didn't exist in 4? Something that isnt in the SiteSetup but in some hidden dialog box ?
I can also upload to my host using Fetch, a third party FTP. And as I said DW CS4 works fine. So the problem is not with my host, its with DW CS6 in particular.

Thank you Jon, that fixed it perfectly. You have saved me from going crazy. The only difference I see now is in "Server Name" it changed what I had entered (my ftp address) to "Remote Server"; which seems odd -- but it works!   Although I know there maybe also some other dialog box I have never seen
Of course I saw that menu item "Import"  and but I thought thats obviously not for me: "Why would I want to import an entire website?". I did not however see "Export the selected site" for thats only a tiny icon in the footer. However I would have thought the same:  "Why would I want to export my entire website?".
An observation: I've seen this problem in a lot of Adobe software, the menu-names of items are  obscure, non descriptive. What would be better would be for the menu names or popups to say "Export Site Setup settings" and "Import Site Setup settings"

Here's where I might be delusional. I insert the HTML into a
page, then use the "edit in Fireworks" option in DW to change the
default state of one button using the "show in 'down' state on
load" option (depending on which page is currently up.) I've
noticed that although I can use the "edit in Fireworks" option to
do other things (minor spacing issues for example) with marginal
success...FW is not reflecting the "down state" changes in DW at
all. I swear I've done this before and it's worked, though!
When I'm in the midst of making these changes and "preview"
in FW, everything works as it should. However, as soon as I hit
"done", no updates are reflected in the DW page...nor are they
saved in the original FW HTML when I go back and check.
If I'm completely wrong, what would be the best way to
reflect a "down state on load" button for each page of the website?
Do I need to make the changes, re-save the files, and re-export
    them?
If it helps, the test index page is:
    http://www.thdelectronics.com/index_testbar.html
It shows "home" in the down state. But when I load the HTML
on the products pages and try to change the down state button to
    "products"...it doesn't work.
    Thanks,
    ~G~

    Hello
I just worked through this exact same issue today so I'm glad
to help. The easy answer is that when you are exporting the html to
Dreamweaver you need to check 'Multiple Nav Bar HTML Pages' in the
'Document Specific' tab (under the options button in my Fireworks
    MX).
As far as I can tell, you end up with a nav bar for each of
your links and then have to import those each to your pages which
doesn't help when using templates. I'm hoping I can find a
    different answer to that one.
Here is a link to the whitepaper...

  • Fireworks CS3 and Dreamweaver 8

    I own Dreamweaver 8 but not Fireworks 8, and I don't
particularly want to upgrade Dreamweaver to build decent websites

particularly of the sliced variety, into Dreamweaver 8? Any

YOu need to export the files from Fireworks to your
    Dreamweaver site,
then if you want to use the Fireworks HTML, use the
    Dreamweaver Insert >
Image Objects > Fireworks HTml feature.

  • Problems upgrading from Dreamweaver 4 to CS3

The website I manage is www.episcopal-dallas.org. Today, I
upgraded from Dreamweaver 4 to CS3. In Design view, I can edit
about half of the pages, but those of the other half (including the
index/home page) have gray backgrounds (with a few exceptions that
have white), and, although I can make changes in the code, I cannot
edit them in Design view. The cursor forms the universal "nicht"
sign — circle with a diagonal slash through it. I can't find
any commonality between the ones that I can edit and the ones I
    can't.
Also, on some of the pages, the navigation panel that is
supposed to be on the left side has ended up above the text of the
main body of the page. Manuals I have say nothing about upgrading
    existing websites.

    Of course it does.

You should never have to do this.
I hope your understanding of this doesn't cause further
    problems for you.

  • How to edit the find-and-replace dialog in Dreamweaver 8

For over 13 years I have been a happy user of Macromedia Dreamweaver 8. And I still see no reason to use any other program for editting PHP.
However, 1 thing has been bugging me for years. In the find-and-replace dialog there is a select "Find in". The options are in a dropdown.
I want this select to be a multiselector (not in functionality, but just so I don't need to click to get the dropdown, but just one click to select).
I read in the help at 'Customizing the appearance of dialog boxes' at point 4
On your disk, find the appropriate HTM file in the Configuration/Objects, Configuration/ Commands, or Configuration/Behaviors folder.
I've been searching but can not find the code for that dialog, althou it should be easy. Also did a search for that 'save' image, because once I find that, I can find this form, but its not in the macromedia folder.
how to edit the find-and-replace dialog in Dreamweaver 8?

It's looks less like an image and more like a form drop list to me.
Yes its a dropdown list. But to find the code for that select I tried to find the htm file that code is on by searching for the save-image which is also on that page (next to the yellow folder). I did a search on all folders in c:/programfiles/macromedia and that image is not in there. If I could find the image name, I could search the code for that and should find that htm (or javascript) which is outputting it, then the select must be near to that.
I also searched the code for the various texts on the page and got many hits, but not from the dialog page. I can't search dll files, so maybe thats where that code is in.

  • I tunes can't find original song files of all my songs.  How do I fix this?

I tunes can't find original song files of all my songs.  How do I fix this?

Itunes stores ripped cds in the 'itunes' folder called 'itunes music' which under normal installation should reside into your 'My music' folder. Your music folders on the DVD then have to be copied into the 'Itunes music' folder for itunes to find it.
The tracks with the exclamation marks have registered with the incorrect location into the library. You can do two things:
Either search in the folder where you copied them from the DVD at the earlier step described above which means that you will have to do this for every single track, or the fastest way, delete all the incorrect entries and re-import by drag and drop into library the folders with the music you want to show in the library.
