Finding out what classical music is on offer . . .

This must be a dumb question, but how does one go about this?
I'm interested in the Beethoven string quartets but don't see where to go.
Thanks . . . Fortes

I am considering purchasing the Complete Works of Johannes Brahms on iTunes, a steal at $99.99. But, over half of Brahms' works are songs and choral works with tons of text in German and English translations. Will iTunes let me get all that material so I can print it out? And what about the descriptive/historical notes and photos of artists included in the original CD edition? This stuff is pretty important to folks who listen to this kind of music, far more important to us than "album art."
I realize that iTunes is geared to purchasers of pop songs, but why would Apple want to turn away a profitable niche market that they could easily serve with a little tweaking of their business plan? Do they need someone with Classical Music savvy to make this all happen? Allow me to offer my services!

I have a ipod classic 160GB and it's not showing any music anymore, but there is still showing 7GB of memory being used, and I don't have it backed up on my itunes, since I had to put a new hard drive on my computer. Any suggestion to find out whats on that memory or to get it the music back, there is approximately over 1400 songs on it?

What is the memory being used by, is it Other? If it is, that means the iPod can no longer read the music, so it has put it all in "Other".
The usual fix for this is to allow the iPod to Sync with its iTunes Library. If that doesn't work, the next option is to Restore the iPod using the Restore command in iTunes, on the Device/Summary pane.
Unless you are very (very) lucky, I suspect that you are going to have to Restore your iPod. Restoring will remove everything form the iPod and put back onto it only what it finds in your iTunes Library, which you say is currently empty.
    If you have to rebuild your Library after this issue, by adding all the music back again, this is going to be hard to hear, but for the future, you may want to consider always having a backup of your library. The easiset way to back the Library up is;
if the Library is small enough, burn it to a DVD, as digital files, not a "music CD".
If your Library is too large for a DVD, buy yourself an external hard drive and copy the Library onto the drive. Remember to update the backup every so often.

  • How to find out what generation my Classic is ?

Can anyone advise me how I find out what generation my iPod Classic is ? Is there a website I can check with ?
    Many thanks,

Hi Niel, the article I get directed to, doesn't really explain the difference between 6th and 7th generation Classics. Is there anywhere (maybe on the Apple website) I can input the Serial Number and Part Number to be exact ?

  • Is there a way of finding out what has been accessed on my MacBook Pro whilst in the possession of an apple authorised service centre?

    Hi Guys,
I'm a bit new to this discussion group thing although I've been using Macintosh computers for many years (showing my age).
I handed my MacBook Pro to be repaired at an authorised apple service centre. When I handed it in they said they needed to keep hold of it to run some diagnostics and requested my password. I've owned various models of mac for the the past 17 years and this is the first hardware problem I have encountered, hence I have never bothered to set up user accounts.
As I live in quite a remote part of Sweden I am paranoid that some untrusted technician is going to make a copy of my music (11,000 tracks) or share some of my personal information (scanned copies of my birth certificate, passport, certificates, photos, etc.) on the web. Is there a way of finding out what activity has taken place whilst they've had it in their possession?
I appreciate any advice you guys can offer.
    Thanks!
PS: I've already thought about the 'recently opened' menu and The machine in question is a MacBook Pro 17" (2011) running OS X 10.6.8 (need Rosetta).

I am paranoid that some untrusted technician is going to make a copy of my music (11,000 tracks) or share some of my personal information (scanned copies of my birth certificate, passport, certificates, photos, etc.) on the web.
If you put your info into the computer and hand it to another, you have to assume they will copy everything.
Why are you putting scanned copies of valuable identity information into a computer than can be hacked, stolen, lost or compromised by a dirty tech?
    Have you lost your mind?
Is there a way of finding out what activity has taken place whilst they've had it in their possession?
No. The tech would just deny it if he did, or tell the truth which the answer would be "NO" in either case.
The employer won't ask that sort of questions without solid proof, less they make a enemy of the employee and/or risk being sued for defamation of character.
It's not like they bother to have a team of people watching over his shoulder that he doesn't stick a USB thumb drive of your data into his pocket to take home.
I am paranoid that some untrusted technician is going to make a copy of my music (11,000 tracks)
If it's iTunes music, it has your personal ID embedded into the song files. Most IT techs know this though.
I appreciate any advice you guys can offer.
Too late now, all you can do is not worry about it.
Take your personal info out of the machine and if you need it, burn cd/dvd copies, a few USB thumb drives, Iron Keys or self encrypting external storage drives with key and/or keypad.

  • How do i find out what is taking up all  of my gb on my iphone 4

I do i find out what is taking up all of my gb on my iphone 4? I have deleated all of my pictures, music, and games. There is nothing left in the usuage column to deleate but it says i have used 3.8. Where is it hiding?

What is using 3.8GB of space?
If looking at the summary tab in iTunes, what specifically is taking up space?
If looking in Settings > General > About on the device, what specifically is taking up space?
You have the device in front of you, so you can determine what is taking up space.  We only have the information provided by the user to go on.

  • How do i find out what is taking up the most space on my phone?

I have the Iphone 4s and am having trouble syncing.  It keeps telling me i have gone over the space limit.  Is there a way to find out what is thaking up the most space?  there used to be a bar on the bottom of the screen that told you how much space audio took, pictures, extra space was avalible, etc. but i dont see anything like that now.

Plug your device to your computer and open iTunes. There click on your device and it appears at the bottom how much space is each group of items usin (video, audio, music, photos, others...).
    Hope that helps.

The password is good for 15 minutes to make purchases. You should receive a receipt in 24 to 48 hours for the purchases. There is a link to Report an issue. You could use that to start a conversation with iTunes Support about a refund.
Apple considers all sales final. But has been known to offer a one time refund. So the question is, do you want to use your one time refund on this purchase or one more expensive in the future?

  • Is it possible to find out what has been downloaded on my phone as for some reason my data usage doubled in one month but I have no idea how

    Hi
Need some help regarding downloads and data usage on my Iphone 4. In one month my usage doubled and I had 6 downloads which used up half of my data allowance (250mb). I hadn't used my phone any differently and I do not download music/movies/tv programmes etc. Orange are being really useless with helping me and I would like to be able to find out what sites were visited or what was downloaded on certain days as some of the high usage is when I'm at work and not able to use my phone.

  • How do I find out what is using up the majority of my 128GB storage

I am at full capacity on my 128GB MacBook Air, I initially thought that I was using it up with photos but evidently after looking in "About my mac", then "More info" and then "storage" which gives me a crude break down of what my storage is being used for. I am only using 48GB for photos and a little for music, then the rest is classed as "Other". What is this other?!?!? And how can I get rid of it?
Hope someone can shed some light of this?!
    Thanks in advance :-)

For information about the Other category in the Storage display, see this support article.
Empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. If you use iPhoto, empty its internal Trash first:
    iPhoto ▹ Empty Trash
Do the same in other applications, such as Aperture, that have an internal Trash feature. Then reboot. That will temporarily free up some space.
According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of your data. There is little or no performance advantage to having more available space than the minimum Apple recommends. Available storage space that you'll never use is wasted space.
If you're using Time Machine to back up a portable Mac, some of the free space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of files you've recently deleted. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown as Backups. The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself.
See this support article for some simple ways to free up storage space.
You can more effectively use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) to explore your volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can also delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one.
Deleting files inside an iPhoto or Aperture library will corrupt the library. Any changes to a photo library must be made from within the application that created it. The same goes for Mail files.
Proceed further only if the problem isn't solved by the above steps.
ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
    Back up all data now.
If you have more than one user account, make sure you're logged in as an administrator. The administrator account is the one that was created automatically when you first set up the computer.
Install ODS in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it if it's running.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The application window will open, eventually showing all files in all folders, sorted by size with the largest at the top. It may take a few minutes for ODS to finish scanning your files.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything while running ODS as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means. When in doubt, leave it alone or ask for guidance.
When you're done with ODS, quit it and also quit Terminal.

  • How can I find out specifically what plugins are missing? Am told missing, then plugin finder tells me no suitable found, I would look for them myself but have no way to find out what exactly need to look for.

I go into a wiki created by my employer, and get the bar at top of page almost immediately telling me there are plugins needed. I click the button offered for finding plugins, and almost immediately am told no suitable plugins are found. Plugin help offered is useless, because I have no idea what plugins I need to look for. How can I find out what plugins are being detected as "missing"?

If there is no LR edits to keep, or if you don't want to keep the existing edits, you could delete the files from LR and import them again.
Since the file names on disk and file names in LR don't match, you will need to manually match them up by hand individually, if you want to keep the existing LR edits.
The easiest approach to this -- without doing any script programming -- is to go into each directory, one at a time:
Select the correct folder in the "folders" pane. Right-click "show parent" as necessary to see the directory tree.
Sort the LR Library by creation date.
Using the details view in File Explorer, sort the files by creation date (add to the viewed columns if necessary).
Assuming no more than 1 image per second, the files should line up.

  • 160 g storage almost full, over 93 g listed as other? How can I find out what it is?

160 G storage is almost full and with over 93 G listed as other.  How can I find out what is taking up all my storage space.  Could it be back up from 3 iPads?

Backups won't take that much space. Music, photos, and application do use up space quickly though. Go to your home folder, highlight the Music folder and press Command + i to get info. At the top you will eventually see the size of the folder. Do that to each folder in your home directory and you will get a good idea as to where the space is being used.
