Finding Pantone Colors By Number In The Palette

I just upgraded to CS3 and have a question. In CS1 when I needed to find a specific pantone color I would go to the pantone solid coated palette and at the top there was a box labeled "find" where I could type in the number and it would bring me to the color I needed.
In CS3 there is no find box and I have to scroll through to find the number I want. Am I missing something here? I want to be able to quickly find them by typing in the number, not by scrolling through a list.
Any help would be appreciated.
Paul W.

In that same palette, there should be a flyout menu. One item should be Show Find Field.
(I'm on CS2 which does indeed have this item. I'm guessing CS3 has the same?)

  • How can find SCN or sequence number on the update operation?

nedd to recovery database, how can find the SCN or sequence number before the update exection?
    thanks

nedd to recovery database, how can find the SCN or
sequence number before the update exection?Sorry - there is something confusing about your question ...
It seems to me the SCN is the 'system change number', which identifies when a change (table, row, block, flush log buffer to log file, etc) has ocurred.
You seem to be asking for the SCN associated with an update before the update actually occurred.
Are you actually asking "How do I perform a point in time recovery to immediately before a specific update?"
Perhaps you could include a few more details, such as database version. For some reason different versions have different capabilities - that could be helpful here.

  • Finding pantone colors numbers

Is there a way to get the pantone color from AI that matches with tehe pantone flip book?

    cj,
The Pantone libraries should load when you install (which depend on which version).
    Have you just installed?
It may be worth considering uninstalling, running the Cleaner Tool, and reinstalling.

  • Finding Pantone colors

I just got a new Pantone swatch book but can't figure out how to add some colors in InDesign.  Most of the colors are available, but some (for example 7726U and nearby numbers) do not show up in the swatch libraries in the software. I've tried CS3 and CS4.
Any ideas how to get these colors?

If you're adding it as a Spot colour - then you're most likely getting it printed on a printing press.
A spot colour will use a different press. If you select a very similar colour the one you want - but in the Swatches rename it to Pantone 7726U
All this does is make it a separate spot colour - which will output on a separate plate.
If it's going to be printed digitally or as a 4 colour job (no spot colours) then use the CMYK equivalent of the Pantone 7726U
But for a spot colour that will be printed separately - you don't have to have the exact colour - the Spot colour name will appear on the separations.
You can communicate this to the Printers and make it 100% clear what colour you want and what you have done.
The reason for picking a similar colour is in case you need to publish this digitally also.
But for printing all that matters is that printer know what Ink to use when they're printing it.

  • Finding percentage of one number and the latest in a column?

Hello, I'm very new to numbers... like started an hour ago new. Anyway, I'm wanting to find the percentage of a one number and then dynamicly the newest number in a column. I'm entering my weight and wanting to find the percentage I lost from my starting weight. Thank you, Steven.

    Steve,
Nice resolution! Here's my take on a solution, as I read your problem statement:
First, Format the % Loss cell to % using the Format Bar or Cells Inspector. Then enter the formuals.
    Here are the formulas:
    Starting Wgt
    =INDEX(Wgt Data :: A:B,MATCH(MIN(Wgt Data :: A), Wgt Data :: A),2)
    Latest Wgt
    =INDEX(Wgt Data :: A:B,MATCH(MAX(Wgt Data :: A), Wgt Data :: A),2)
    % Loss
    =1-B/A
Hope this works and that you keep the weight off

  • Pantone Colors with CMYK Colors?

    Dear all!
I am LUCK. I am wondering about Pantone Colors with CMYK Colors. It's that I got 1 Pantone Color from my customer and then I changed it to the equivalent CMYK Color. Will I get different colors when changing from Pantone to CMYK because I will print with CMYK Printing Process? Anyway, I am wondering whether the Pantone color is the fix and specific color or not. I mean when I print the Pantone Color, I will get the same result as I print before. Is it right?
Please help to explain to me whether Pantone Colors will keep their colors the same and stable or not. Or would you mind telling me what kind of colors that can produce the same color every time I print, especially for the Formal Uses?
Sorry for being unaware of my knowledge here. Thanks a lot and best wishes to all!
I am looking forward to hearing from you.
    My best regards,
    LUCK

Pantone is a company, not a color. Pantone produces spot color inks, process color inks, and color references.
Understand first: Five color printing ("process plus one") is not uncommon, because six-color presses are not uncommon. When a project is printed on a 6-head press, it does not dramatically affect the costs, because the job can still be printed in one pass. Brochures and other marketing collateral are often printed in 5 inks when a company specifies a spot color as its identity color. When done right, the company's identity specifications also provide a CMYK mix to use in lieu of its spot color(s) when restricted to only CMYK (as in magazine placement ads).
So I'll assume your customer specified a Pantone spot color, and does not provide a preferred CMYK substitute, and your project is restricted to four color process (CMYK) printing.
CMYK mixes do not exactly match spot color inks; they can only approximate. How closely they can approximate depends upon which spot color you are dealing with.
Pantone provides its recommended CMYK values for approximating its spot color inks. That's why Illustrator provides a Pantone solid to process Swatch Library. But such lookups are recommendations; they are not absolute equivalents. There are many many colors in nature (and in spot ink pigment) which simply cannot be matched in CMYK. And any time you try to convert between color models (spot to CMYK, RGB to CMYK, etc.) you encounter ambiguities, because there are multiple algorithms that can be used to generate four values from fewer values.
I often find Pantone's spot-to-process recommendations to be unsatisfactory, and use my own CMYK approximations instead. This is not necessarily due to any failure or shortcoming of the Pantone libraries, but just differences that exist in specific printing houses and workflows. The printing process is full of variables.
Will I get different colors when changing from Pantone to CMYK
Yes, the colors will be different. But whether the difference is noticable depends upon the specific spot ink you are trying to match. It also depends upon the specific use of the color. Fact is, human color perception is very adaptive. Colors that are "mathematically" equivilant according to some colorimetric algorithm are not necessarily perceived as equivilant by human eyes, because much depends upon environment (adjacent colors, etc.)
You can refer to a printed process color reference against which you can compare a printed spot color swatch book and judge for yourself which CMYK values best approximate the spot color. Or, you  can set up simple test sheet of your own, and have it printed to determine a "best match" in a particular printing environment.
All the above is just one reason why contract proofs are still important. If your customer is very picky about his spot color, then he needs to understand that converting it to CMYK is merely an approximation, and perfect matching is simply not possible. That's one reason why spot inks exist in the first place. If he is not willing to pay for five-color printing, then he will likely have to settle for a minor compromise.

  • CMYK Pantone breakdowns different Pantone Color Bridge

I was wanting to know why the color breakdown that Indesign gives for a Spot Pantone color is different to the one specified in a Pantone Color Bridge book. Also the color on screen that Pantone Color Bridge breakdowns show seems more accurate than the ones specified by Indesign.
Any ideas on this or articles that can explain this?
    Thanks

One last thing. If I use the 'Standard Lab values for spots' in Ink manager which gives me a better on screen reproduction of a color then I should do the same in Illustrator under 'Spot colour Options' in the swatches palette.
Lab might give you a better on screen preview of Pantone Solid inks (spot color, not CMYK), especially if the color is out of the CMYK gamut.
Lab doesn't necessarily give you a better preview of how the color would convert to process CMYK. If you want a preview of how a Lab color would convert to CMYK, you could check both Use Standard Lab... and All Spots To Process in Ink Manager.

  • Where are Pantone color library file locations for InDesign CC?

I cannot believe how difficult it is to find this information. It should be a quick search in the regular Help system.
I'd really like to find the file locations for Illustrator CC and Photoshop CC too, because I need to update my Pantone libraries, but every place I can find to save them does not seem to be the default location, so I end up with a really long dropdown menu of strangely duplicated library names, and I have no idea how to clean it up or where the program is looking to give me that list.
As far as I can tell, the default libraries are located whereever that first set is. The lower sets must be somewhere else, but I don't know where, because I've deleted all Pantone sets but one that I could find, but I can still see them (and the other non-pantone color books) duplicated in the lower sets.
Please help! Also, Adobe, if you see this, this information should be READILY and EASILY found through the main Help menu in any Adobe product.

      This was the correct answer:

@Maurizio – the standard settings, the joboption files with the brackets like [PDF/X-1a:2001] are stored inside the inDesign app for InDesign CC 9.2.1.
The path for these would be:
    /Applications/Adobe InDesign CC.app/Contents/MacOS/Resources/Adobe PDF/settings/mul
or with a Japanese version of InDesign:
    /Applications/Adobe InDesign CC.app/Contents/MacOS/Resources/Adobe PDF/settings/japan
If you do a right-click on the InDesign app you can show them with "Show Package Contents" options.
All other PDF joboptions that you are creating are relative to your current User Library. They are stored in:
    ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe PDF/Settings
Where the tilde sign at the beginning indicates the home of the currently used user.
You can access ~/Library, if you press the alt key when accessing the "Go To" menu in the Finder. Otherwise it's invisible.

  • CS5.5 Can't see Pantone Color Bridge libraries!

    Hello there!
I am using Creative Suite CS5.5 Trial version for now on Windows 7 platform. For some reason I don't see Pantone Color Bridge libraries, only the old ones, but none of the Plus Series. I was able to see these colors on version 5, but not here. Can't see them on Photoshop, Illustrator or InDesign. I wonder if CS5.5 supports these colors. I even downloaded a plugin from Pantone and Pantone Color Manager, but with no luck. I contacted Pantone, but still waiting for a response. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks!

  • Illustrator cc crashes on start up win 8 - pantone color manager issues?

I was at a clients office yesterday,  installed Pantone Color manager on my laptop (I have Adobe Illustrator CC) and on their desktop (They have latest copy of Illustrator, but not cc, it's disc). And imported some pantone swatches into illustrator on both machines.
Since I shut down my laptop on leaving their office and restarted, Illustrator freezes on start up. Their machine is ok.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled illustrator.  I checked that it wasn't win updates that is causing this and ran an update. I'm stuck now, still no solution, I'm travelling abroad and I need illustrator!  Could anyone walk me through any possible solutions?

I selected the swatch card that I needed using the Pantone Colour Services manager application - I selected a Pantone Textiles colour card - same colour ref guide as my paper swatch book - because it doesn't come as standard with the software, you then choose which Adobe application you want to export it to following the instructions here http://pantone.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1803
In ordder to do this, I  installed Pantone Color Services manager from the pantone website - I note that this software seemed to be bundled with X-Rite Services Device manager which installed at the same time.  Despite removing this and reinstalling and also trying to use Windows system restore (which didn't work and threw up an error message saying it could not restore) the application still does not launch. Do I need to go into the registry and alter anything?

  • Color picker picks wrong Pantone color in color library

I have a Pantone swatch and a Pantone color book that contain the same colors. With the color library open in the color picker, I select a color from the swatch using the dropper and most times it gives me the correct color.
    However, some times it doesn't.
I have verified that the 8 bit RGB values of the colors are identical in the color book and swatch (as shown in the info panel), but still it gives me a different color. Both files are in RGB color, with the swatch stored in 16bit and the color book in 8 bit (file format limitations).
What causes the wrong color to be selected? How does photoshop calculate the "distance" between the colors to determine which is closest? I would expect that it should select the color that has identical RGB values, even though the one it does select is relatively close in RGB space.

The color picker always fails on the same colors. My monitor profile is sRGB. Every color profile setting I know of is on sRGB and it doesn't seem to make a difference.
In the image below I've tried to show what is happening. In the top version, the incorrectly chosen color (wrong red value) is selected in the color library, while the info panel shows the RGB value of the swatch color that the mouse is over. In the bottom version, the correct color was manually selected to show that it does indeed exist in the color book. In this case the RGB value in the info panel (from the swatch) and the RGB is the color library are the same.

  • Pantone color matching problem

Why is this happening? A Pantone chip in the solid, coated swatch book and AI CS3 pantone swatch library don't match.
811C in the chip book is flourescent orange but onscreen it's peach.
    Thanks,
    Ian

Its as accurate as it can be considering the differences between RGB and CMYK and Pantone. Remember, RGB is really only suitable for screen based graphics - light emitting devices. CMYK is best for 4 color printing processes. Pantone colors are 'spot' or single colors mixed to get that result.
Alot of confusion happens because the three different systems do not easily 'convert' and people get caught when the printed result bears no resembelance to the screen result.
For really best results get your self a Pantone Color Bridge book, select your Pantone color, and then use the RGB or  CMYK breakdown they recommend for best color match.
Fluro colors will never print well as CMYK or RGB although they my view well on screen.
