Finding photos by Month

I want to categorize my photos by month, e.g., all photos taken in November in the keyword "nov" without regard to year. I can do this by brute force by finding Novembers in 2007 and categorizing them, followed by Novembers in 2006 ... back to 2000 when my digital images start. Is there a better way?
Thanks,
Ollie

Use the metadata browser, and ctrl-click "November" under each of the years that are listed. The resulting grid should be all photos taken in November of all years.

How can I synchronize my iPhoto events? my iTunes doesn't read them and with the app Images in the iPad I can only find Photos, Albums, Faces and Places, not Events.

I had a problem a couple of months ago when iPhotos suddenly rearranged the order of my Events (Why won't iPhoto let me arrange my photos?) .  I was told "Use albums not events - events are not a good way to organize - albums and folder are designed for organisation and are very flexible".
Haha!  I should have paid attention and read between the lines!  My iPhotos were highly organised groupings - not according to date but the way I wanted them - and it was so easy to do!  I see now that if I had them all in albums, as per the Apple Apologist suggestion, I wouldn't have this unholy mess I have been left with just to make iPhone & iCloud users happy.  I am now going through Photos and making Albums (of what used to be in my Events)  ... maybe I'll get this finished before they do another non user friendly update!

  • Finding photo by date

It used to be that iPhoto stored your photos buy year, month and then date. And by using the Finder you could find photos taken on a specific day very easily.
My son is now a year old and we want to go back and find the photos we painstakingly took of him on the 12th of each month.
Only by upgrading to iLife 06 the photos are all stored by roll number. Not ideal.
I see that you can scroll through your library and the approx. date flashed up, but this isn't really any good for homing in on a specific date. I know that you can also sort your libarary by date, but again, that isn't that much use for what I need to do. Sorting by roll only shows the date the roll was imported.
Any ideas? Is there a smart search that I don't know about? Like the vast majority of people I tend to dump photos onto my Mac and don't take the time to label them all (deleting out the many bad shots takes long enough!) so there's no keyword searching I can do.
    Thanks

At the bottom of the Source pane is a calendar button. It brings up a calendar which will let you find photos by year or month or day.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.

  • How can I find photos that are not assigned to any collection?

    Hi !
    I'm using LR 5.7.1 on a Mac.
When I've retouched raw pictures with PS CC (and do not need the PSD file any longer) I export the PSD (that is in my catalog) as JPG and let it add to my catalog automatically. After that I delete the PSD file. That works fine.
But .... the new JPG file is not assigned to any collection. That's no problem unless I forget to do it manually after that export (and import).
That brings me to my question.
How can I find photos that are not assigned to any collection?
I tried it with a smart collection after I found nothing suitable in library filter. The search criteria I tried are Source -> Collection with any of the conditions. One with an empty value field, then with just a space and so on.
Has anybody a good hint for me?
    Thomas

You can also add numbers if you have collections that don't use alphabet characters.

Photo albums are not searched by Spotlight Search.  Go to Settings > General > Spotlight Search to see and reorder the available search items.

  • How do I find photos in hidden folders?

I am trying to find photos where the automatically download.  The folder seems to be hidden.  How can I find it?

    Hey Jeneedshelp,
Open a Finder window. In the upper right corner is a search box. Type a word from the name of the image file ("car," "vacation" or whatever it might be) and hit enter. The Finder window will display a list of entries including that word, and should include your image file. Highlight one of the search results by clicking on it once, and at the bottom of the finder window you'll now see the path to that folder. That will show you where those image files are hiding.
Often it will be under Macintosh HD > Users > (your name) > Downloads.

  • ITunes can't find photos to share on apple tv

iTunes can't find photos to share on Apple TV when photos were moved from iPhoto to the new Photos

Thanks for the suggestion Limnos but you're right that's not the answer...
iTunes Match allows 25,000 songs so I don't think apple see 20,000 as outside the design parameters.
Anyway I'll wait in hope that someone can offer a solution to the path that Finder uses for each different connection as that's where the answer lies, that or a way to change the path of the server in iTuens, but all the forums I have looked at suggest you can't do that?

Unless you have the source files that were on the TC or Windows machine you will have to start over with a new library as follows:
Start over from scratch with new library
Start over with a new library and import the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from your original library as follows:
    1.  Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
    2. Open the library package like this.
    3. Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
    4. Drag the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open iPhoto window.
This will create a new library with the same Events as the original library but will not keep the metadata, albums, books slideshows and other projects.  Your original library will remain intact for further attempts at fixes is so desired.

  • Can't find photos in a deep subdirectory

I am unable to get Lightroom 5.3 to find photos for Importing that are in a subdirectory.  The subdirectory with the photos has five parental levels of subdirectories above it, that conatin no photos.  Lightroom won't see past the first two subdirectory levels.  I have "Include Subfolders" checked.

Well, they're not empty.  They contain subdirectories that make sense in the overall context. They are zipped files I am downloading from an online course I'm taking on using LR and PS.  I've created a subdirectory for them under /Pictures and at that point the downloaded heirarchy takes over.  It would really be a pain to have to move the photo files so I can access them as I will be downloading more that will be utilizing this file heirarchy.
Every other Windows program I've ever used, and I've used many ever since Windows was introduced, has been able to read file structure without a limti like this.  Why can't Lightroom do this, especially since it is supposed to be a management tool for organizing and accessing photo files.

  • "Cant find photos"

I am using iPhoto 08, and after the latest updates it has gone strange!
The thumbnails appear, but if I try clicking on any a box appears that says it cannot find the photo. I have used finder to look in the 'iPhoto Library' folder and all the photos are there OK just as before (in either modified or originals folders).
I have tried rebuilding but nothing has changed.
Can someone please tell me what to do?

A window appears in iPhoto that says "ALERT The photo “HPIM0209.JPG” could not be opened, because the original item cannot be found."
It gives me the option to 'find photo', but if I click on this it just shows the iphoto library folder but greyed out. I know the photos are all in a folder in the iphoto library because I have looked via finder.
I tried rebuilding the way you say. However if I tick all the options then it tries rebuilding thumbnails first and gets immediately stuck and windows keep appearing saying the photo cannot be found. If I tick all the options except thumbnails then it immediately opens iPhoto and everything is as before (ie with the same problem!)

  • Cant find photos on time machine

My hard drive crashed and now is fixed. I can't find photo library from time machine to retrieve them. I had about 700 photos for 08 and cant find them.

Were the photos in iPhoto? You should be able to open iPhoto then enter Time Machine and browse your iPhoto library for any date for which you have a backup. If the missing photos are not there, are there other photos there or is your entire iPhoto library mia?

  • IPhoto can't find photo even though the thumbnail is present. Any help, there are dozens of photos in my library that won't open as iPhoto can't find them.

iPhoto can't find photo even though the thumbnail is present. Any help, there are dozens of photos in my library that won't open as iPhoto can't find them. This is probably a very common question!

With the amount of information you've provided it's impossible to offer a potential solution.  We need to know the details of your problem and situation, i.e.:
what version of iPhoto are you using?
what system version are you running?
what do you see when you launch iPhoto to open your library?
what fixes have you tried before coming here?
    where is you library located?
how long has this been occuring?
did you apple any updates or upgrades just prior?
are you running a "managed" or "referenced" library?
    what type of Mac?
how much free space on your boot drive?
What do you see when you click on a thumbnail?

  • IPhoto can not find photo

Upgraded to iphoto 11.  then iphoto could not find photos even though they are on my Hard Disk.
    Whats up with this?
i manually located the  photos one at a time. This is for 400 photos one at a time?  this is crazy  man.
it should simply go to " all my files" snd grab the photos it needs!
Help. This eats up too much time.

it should simply go to " all my files" snd grab the photos it needs!
It does.  You must have a damaged library.  You say you upgraded to iPhoto 9 (11).  What warning does iPhoto give you when you try to use it?
If you went inside the iPhoto Library package and moved photos around that will damage/corrupt the database that iPhoto uses.i t should simply go to " all my files" snd grab the photos it needs!
Explain what you're seeing and what steps you took to fix the problem.  Then we can attempt to suggest an approach to fix the problem.

  • IPhoto cannot find photo.  when i press the find button.

The thumpnail of the photo is displayed.  When I try to select the photo it says file cannot be found.  I select the button to find photo.  Navigate to the new location of the photo.  But the files are all greyed out.  Cannot select the jpg file.
The file is valid.  i checked the user privilages and they are read and write for everyone.  The file opens fine in Prview.
    What is wrong with I-PHOTO?
    Thanks for any help.

The thumpnail of the photo is displayed.  When I try to select the photo it says file cannot be found.
Is this the alert you get?
That's an indication that at the time those photos were imported the library was being run as a "referenced" library.  Unless you can use the Find Photo button to find the photo on your Mac to relink it they are gone.
Download  Find Any File and use it to search for some of the image files that give that warning message. FAF can search areas that Spotlight can't like invisible folders and packages and if the full sized source files are on the hard drive FAF will find them.
