Finding photos not assigned to an album

Hello,
Does anyone know of a way to find photos in the library that are not assigned to an album? I tried looking at the properties of a photo to see if there was any album information and I am not seeing anything.
Thanks for the help.

Eric:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Just create a Smart Album with the criteria: Album is not any. That will do it.

  • IPhoto '11 - Create album of photos NOT in any Smart Album

I've searched these forums and couldn't find anything to help me out.  I'm using iPhoto '11, and have converted all my albums to smart albums, primarily using keywords.  In my old scenario, using albums, I could create a "to file" album of photos that are not in any albums.
However, now that I'm using smart albums, there doesn't seem to be a way to identify a way of finding photos that are not in any pre-defined smart album?
Most of my smart albums rely on two or more keywords (ie. date and event), so I can't use the logic "if it has a keyword", that doesn't get photos missing from any smart album.
Any suggestions on manual or automated ways to do this?  It would be nice to have a 'photo not in a smart album' criteria.
    Thanks in advance,
    Jon

No. A Smart Album is really a list of images found in response to a search. So you're looking for images not found by another search, and that's not a criterion for a Smart Album.

  • Iphoto: find photos not imported in the iPhoto Library

    Hello
I've got this message from iPhoto since few days, trying to repair the DB with no success, any idea ??
In English : Photos not imported are find in the iPhoto library.
I've also tried this terminal command to optimze the DB for dbase in *.db; do sqlite3 $dbase "vacuum;"; done but no success.
    Thanks for your feedback

Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for a Folder called 'Import' or 'Importing'.
Drag it to the Desktop. Make no other changes. Start iPhoto. Does that help?
If it does then look inside that folder on your desktop. Does it contain anything you want? If not you can trash the folder.

  • IPhoto 11, how do I view photos that are not assigned to any album?

I am trying to orginize my photo library (iPhoto 11) a bit better. I have 7,500 photos and I'm looking to find which ones are not in any album. I saw sugesstions for iPhoto 09 where you can make a smart folder for that very situation, however I don't see that ability in 11. Any suggestions? Thanks

  • Find Photos Not In Collection

I am sure this seems like a OTW [off the wall] requirement, but does anyone know how to locate photos that have not been assigned to a Collection?
I have 13,500 photos and went through them assigning them to collections. After that exercise, I find I have 13,255 photos in my collections and am now trying to discover which I missed. Any thoughts?
    Mel

    Don,
Thanks. I don't use the Invert Selection often [now seeing the value I will be using it more] and it never occurred to me. Worked well but LR kind of chokes when it manipulates 13500 photos at once. Doesn't die, just uses 50% of cpu and goes really slowly.
I think the LR folks will have to do some thinking about "massive" photo actions as the program gets more popular with some really big collections to be worked on. I am optimistic.
    Thanks again,
    Mel

  • Events and Photos not shown in full album view

In either Events and Photos (under Library) or Albums, when I click on an event or album, it pre-selects a photo (obviously one that I have set as the cover), but NOT the entire collection (as in the past). I used to be able to:
    1) See the entire collage, and select any picture I liked and it would enlarge
    2) Click in the black space (I set it to a black background), then the picture would minimize and I'd be back to the full album or event.
Now, nothing happens when I click the background black space. All I can do is simply scroll through the album or event and see the pics as they open on screen. I have no idea what the picture will be until I click the forward arrow. I cannot see the full album as well, just the pre-set first picture.
    Not sure what happened.
    Thanks.

Also, when I click the various tabs in iPhoto Preferences, the pop-up box shakes for a few seconds, just like when you inadvertently enter the wrong password when logging in, or doing software updates, and the system tells you you've made a mistake by making it vibrate up and down. This does not happen with other programs....the transition between settings options after clicking is clean.
    I wonder if there's a bug.
I've done nothing to preferences at all....all settings have remained the same.

  • Why does a slideshow in Elements 13 display photos not in the selected album? How do I prevent this.

Using a Mac 10.9.5 os and Elements 13. I have a catalog of photos from a trip, divided into albums by day. When I select one for a slideshow, at least one photo from a different album appears. It is not in the group of photos selected. Sometimes it is shown 2-4 times in the show. Other photos appear once. When I show titles, the correct title will show, but the errant photo appears. Example: Title is Monumental Rock, but photo of of Palouse Falls. I can't figure a way to remove these incorrect photos from the slideshow. It happens with any day selected for the slideshow and random photos included.

  • Finding photos not in collections

I recently imported about 3,500 photos into Lightroom 1.3.1 and placed each imported photo in one or another collection I created. Somehow, about fifty of the 3,500 files did not end up in any collection. (My oversight or error, I'm sure.) Is there a way to search the entire catalog for those fifty photos so I can put them in their proper collections?
I'm using Windows XP, Lightroom 1.3.1, and a beginner's understanding of Lightroom.

It is very simple actually. Simply select all your collections by shift clicking. Then do a select all in the grid browser (Apple-A or whatever the equivalent on windows is) and click on "All photographs." Now in the edit menu do "Invert selection" and you will have selected all photographs that are not in any collection. You can make a quick collection out of those by hitting B, or make a new collection by hitting command-N.

  • Deleting photos stored under photos, not albums in photo app

I want to delete the large number of photos in within my iPad's photo app stored under photos, NOT those organized under albums in this app. How do I do this? I have checked Apple discussions etc with no success. It is taking up a lot of space on my iPad!

The photos that are shown under the Photos tab in the Photos tab are the same as are shown under Albums - it's just a way of viewing all of your photos on one screen, they aren't separate copies of the photos. So if you delete a photo from the Photos tab in the app, it will also be removed from its album.
To delete a photo from the iPad, then if it was taken with the iPad, copied onto it via the camera connection kit, or saved from emails/websites etc then you can delete them either via the trashcan icon in the top right corner if viewing the photo in full screen, or via the icon top right of the box with the arrow coming out of it (Edit button on iOS 6) in thumbnail view. Photos that were synced from your computer are deleted by moving/removing/de-selecting them from where they were synced from on your computer and then re-syncing.
Note that if you've copied photos into new albums that you've created directly on the iPad, then effectively you've only created pointers to those photos and not created separate copies of them - so if you then delete the original photo, you will also be deleting all pointers to it (so it will be removed from all albums that you've 'copied' it into on the iPad).

  • Photo app on ipad randomly switches to photos not in the album

I added a new album of photos from my pc to my itunes to use as a slideshow to showcase specific photots. It is the oddest thing, part way through the slideshow it will randomly pull photos not included in the album and show them in the slideshow. Has anyone else encountered this or know why the ipad photo app might be doing this?

Unfortunately, photo stream on a PC is iffy at best.  Many people have problems getting it to work properly, including myself.  A work around would be to use an app like PhotoSync on your PC, which can send photos wirelessly to the camera roll on any of your iOS devices on the same wifi network.  Once in the camera roll, you iOS device will be added to your photo stream.

  • Finding all photos not in any album

    Hello,
    I am a user of PE10.
I imported about 7000 photographs and am organizing them into albums. To ensure I assign all photos to at least one album I would like to display all unassigned photos, i.e. photos not in any album yet, so that I can assign the to albums.
Right now I have to click "Show All" and scroll through 7000 pictures to find ones I have not assigned yet :-( very tedious.
Is there anyway to show only unassigned pgotographs?
    TIA,
    Herman

In thumbnail view click Show All or launch the Organizer from scratch.
Then click the Find menu and choose the criteria you need.

  • Apple script to locate and assign photos that do not belong to an album

Is there an Apple script to locate photos that do not belong to an album and assign them to one specific album where you can distribute them. I just finished using an apple script for iTunes that does that job and have been searching for an apple script to do the same.
    Thanks For The Help
    Dan

You can easily find photos that are not in any albums by using a Smart Album with the criteria:
    Album is not Any
From there you'll have to manually drag them to their destination album.
However, once you move photos to another album you'll have to leave it and then go back to it to see the changes you've made. It doesn't automatically update changes while you're viewing it.

  • How can I find photos that are not assigned to any collection?

    Hi !
    I'm using LR 5.7.1 on a Mac.
When I've retouched raw pictures with PS CC (and do not need the PSD file any longer) I export the PSD (that is in my catalog) as JPG and let it add to my catalog automatically. After that I delete the PSD file. That works fine.
But .... the new JPG file is not assigned to any collection. That's no problem unless I forget to do it manually after that export (and import).
That brings me to my question.
How can I find photos that are not assigned to any collection?
I tried it with a smart collection after I found nothing suitable in library filter. The search criteria I tried are Source -> Collection with any of the conditions. One with an empty value field, then with just a space and so on.
Has anybody a good hint for me?
    Thomas

You can also add numbers if you have collections that don't use alphabet characters.
