Finding photos not in collections

I recently imported about 3,500 photos into Lightroom 1.3.1 and placed each imported photo in one or another collection I created. Somehow, about fifty of the 3,500 files did not end up in any collection. (My oversight or error, I'm sure.) Is there a way to search the entire catalog for those fifty photos so I can put them in their proper collections?
I'm using Windows XP, Lightroom 1.3.1, and a beginner's understanding of Lightroom.

It is very simple actually. Simply select all your collections by shift clicking. Then do a select all in the grid browser (Apple-A or whatever the equivalent on windows is) and click on "All photographs." Now in the edit menu do "Invert selection" and you will have selected all photographs that are not in any collection. You can make a quick collection out of those by hitting B, or make a new collection by hitting command-N.

  • Find Photos Not In Collection

I am sure this seems like a OTW [off the wall] requirement, but does anyone know how to locate photos that have not been assigned to a Collection?
I have 13,500 photos and went through them assigning them to collections. After that exercise, I find I have 13,255 photos in my collections and am now trying to discover which I missed. Any thoughts?
    Mel

    Don,
Thanks. I don't use the Invert Selection often [now seeing the value I will be using it more] and it never occurred to me. Worked well but LR kind of chokes when it manipulates 13500 photos at once. Doesn't die, just uses 50% of cpu and goes really slowly.
I think the LR folks will have to do some thinking about "massive" photo actions as the program gets more popular with some really big collections to be worked on. I am optimistic.
    Thanks again,
    Mel

  • Iphoto: find photos not imported in the iPhoto Library

    Hello
I've got this message from iPhoto since few days, trying to repair the DB with no success, any idea ??
In English : Photos not imported are find in the iPhoto library.
I've also tried this terminal command to optimze the DB for dbase in *.db; do sqlite3 $dbase "vacuum;"; done but no success.
    Thanks for your feedback

Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for a Folder called 'Import' or 'Importing'.
Drag it to the Desktop. Make no other changes. Start iPhoto. Does that help?
If it does then look inside that folder on your desktop. Does it contain anything you want? If not you can trash the folder.

  • Finding photos not assigned to an album

    Hello,
Does anyone know of a way to find photos in the library that are not assigned to an album? I tried looking at the properties of a photo to see if there was any album information and I am not seeing anything.
    Thanks for the help.

    Eric:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Just create a Smart Album with the criteria: Album is not any. That will do it.

  • Show photos not in collections?

Hi! After distributing my photos into collections I have faced the following need: now I wish to review ONLY photos that are not present in ANY collection in order to see if I have missed something that needs to be put into an existing collection.
Is there a way to do that? If not then I request this feature! Wish to hear your opinions...

Currently only a work around. Ctl/Cmd select all the collections. Select All in the Grid. Menu/Edit/Invert Selection. Somehow tag them. Color Label, Flag, Quick Collection.
    There you go.
Otherwise some mechanism for this has been requested before.

  • Can't find photos (even in collections) since IOS8

    Hello,
Since updating to IOS8, I cannot find my photos.
I looked at the troubleshooting guides on the web and they all say they are in my collections, but they aren't!
I know the photos are there because a third party application that scans the phone to recover files has identified a thumbnail or each picture missing. The only thing is I don't really want to pay the $80 to get it the full version to use it.
I have tried using iCloud to access the photos, but they aren't there.
Why can't I see my photos....how do I get them off my phone?
    Please help!

I tried to post a free version of a similar app, but ASC was on strike.
    https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/myroll-smart-camera-roll-organizer/id513097075?m t=8
    Don't know what to say.
Have you tried dropbox.com?  The other app is finding the photos.  Ipad has limited sharing.  If one app can find things, you would think the others could find them too.
Perhaps you could backup to your computer and get one of those apps that let you look at the backed up data.

  • How can I find photos that are not assigned to any collection?

    Hi !
    I'm using LR 5.7.1 on a Mac.
When I've retouched raw pictures with PS CC (and do not need the PSD file any longer) I export the PSD (that is in my catalog) as JPG and let it add to my catalog automatically. After that I delete the PSD file. That works fine.
But .... the new JPG file is not assigned to any collection. That's no problem unless I forget to do it manually after that export (and import).
That brings me to my question.
How can I find photos that are not assigned to any collection?
I tried it with a smart collection after I found nothing suitable in library filter. The search criteria I tried are Source -> Collection with any of the conditions. One with an empty value field, then with just a space and so on.
Has anybody a good hint for me?
    Thomas

You can also add numbers if you have collections that don't use alphabet characters.

  • Problems with "find nearby missing photos", not working like it should in LR4

After I imported photos into LR4 I decided to split the event within the same folder creating 2 subfolders and proceeded to move the files within the finder. Went to LR4 and synchronized the folder but it didn't fix the file location on the missing files. So I tried finding individual files and checked the "Find nearby missing photos" but this doesn't seem to work like it did in LR3, because it won't find any nearby missing files even though they are right there new to each other in the same folder.
I don't want to dremove them and re-import because I have added ratings and I fear I would loose this info if I did that...

Your assumption that you would loose your ratings and develop settings is correct, if you would re-import.
Reimporting is never a good idea.
For the rest you have two alternatives: either you reconnect one image after another, or you undo on OS level what you did in the first place, then execute the move inside LR.
Depending on how many images you moved this could actually be the fastest route out.
"Find nearby missing photos" did not work reliably for me either in LR3. I have never found out when it did and when not, so I have preferred to learn how to perform any such operation inside LR.
Another valid question is why you do not use collections for your desired split , and leave the folders as they were.
According to my prejudice MAC users would not be as conservative in sticking to folder structures as Windows users..;-))
Once you master LR folders could be very unimportant storage buckets, as every angle for organizing your images would be covered by (smart) collections and keywords and other metadata.
    Good luck, Cornelia

  • Photos in the Collection but not in Camera roll

Over the weekend, I took a lot of photos but they didnt show up in the Camera roll. I can only find them in the Collection photos area. When I plug my phone to my laptop, it synced all the photos. The videos that I took showed up in the Videos album just find. In the Camera Roll album, a lot of the photos that I've taken within the last couple of weeks were deleted (but they are still in the Collection). The weird thing is the photos that I deleted is now in Camera roll.

    Hi MonteLucas,
If you are having issues with pictures not showing in Camera Roll even after restarting the iPhone you may want to restore the iPhone as a new device -

how do i search for a photo album when i use the search facility on my iPad or iPhone it will not find photo albums of a given name can anyone help

Photo albums are not searched by Spotlight Search.  Go to Settings > General > Spotlight Search to see and reorder the available search items.

  • How can I synchronize my iPhoto events? my iTunes doesn't read them and with the app Images in the iPad I can only find Photos, Albums, Faces and Places, not Events.

How can I synchronize my iPhoto events? my iTunes doesn't read them and with the app Images in the iPad I can only find Photos, Albums, Faces and Places, not Events.

I had a problem a couple of months ago when iPhotos suddenly rearranged the order of my Events (Why won't iPhoto let me arrange my photos?) .  I was told "Use albums not events - events are not a good way to organize - albums and folder are designed for organisation and are very flexible".
Haha!  I should have paid attention and read between the lines!  My iPhotos were highly organised groupings - not according to date but the way I wanted them - and it was so easy to do!  I see now that if I had them all in albums, as per the Apple Apologist suggestion, I wouldn't have this unholy mess I have been left with just to make iPhone & iCloud users happy.  I am now going through Photos and making Albums (of what used to be in my Events)  ... maybe I'll get this finished before they do another non user friendly update!

  • IPhoto frustrating error..The volume for "Df23.JPG" cannot be found. It prompts for all photos with this issue rather than offering an option to ignore. I can find the images in spotlight but not in Find Photo. Does anyone have a solution

Unless you have the source files that were on the TC or Windows machine you will have to start over with a new library as follows:
Start over from scratch with new library
Start over with a new library and import the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from your original library as follows:
    1.  Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
    2. Open the library package like this.
    3. Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
    4. Drag the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open iPhoto window.
This will create a new library with the same Events as the original library but will not keep the metadata, albums, books slideshows and other projects.  Your original library will remain intact for further attempts at fixes is so desired.

  • Photo Stream photos not showing up in Photos Collections

I've noticed on my iPhone 5s, many photos from Photo Stream are not appearing in the "Photos" tab where I can view photos by year, collections, moments, etc.  I have many Photo Stream photos appearing, but it is sporadic.
On my iPad, all Photo Stream photos appear in the Photos tab just fine.
I've attached a screen shot from each of my devices as an example.  Both devices are pulling from the same Photo Stream, so theoretically, they should be showing the same photos.  My iPad shows 10 photos.  My iPhone shows 2 (shows 3 in the screen grab because one is a video).
How can I force the Photos tab to update to reflect all the photos in my Photo Stream?

I FIGURED OUT THE ISSUE.  But no resolution.
It appears that my iPhone 5s's Photos tab only shows Photo Stream photos of photos RECEIVED from other devices, but not Photo Stream photos of photos that ORIGINATED on my iPhone.  Does this make sense?  Here's an example:
    1) Take Photo A on iPhone
    2) Take Photo B on iPad
    3) Allow Photo A and Photo B to upload to Photo Stream
    4) See Photo A and B in Photo Stream on both devices
    5) See Photo A and B in Photos tab on both devices.
    6) Delete the camera roll copy of Photo A from the iPhone.
    7) Photo A is now MISSING from the Photos tab of iPhone, but is still viewable in iPhone Photo Stream
THUS =  Photos tab is not accessing Photo Stream
I can replicate this on my iPad
    4) See Photo A and B in Photo Stream on both devices
    5) See Photo A and B in Photos tab on both devices.
    6) Delete the camera roll copy of Photo B from the iPad.
    7) Photo B is now MISSING from the Photos tab of iPad, but is still viewable in iPad Photo Stream
This appears to be some way to prevent duplications on your local device.  Apple doesn't want you to see the Photo Stream copy and the Camera Roll copy BOTH in the Photos tab.  However, if you delete the Camera Roll copy, the Photo Stream copy DOES NOT appear in the Photos tab.  This is dumb because I delete the Camera Roll copy as soon as it finishes uploading to Photo Stream.  There is no reason to keep both copies on your iOS device.  However, now I can't enjoy the Photo Stream photos in the Photos tab.

  • IPhoto can not find photo

Upgraded to iphoto 11.  then iphoto could not find photos even though they are on my Hard Disk.
    Whats up with this?
i manually located the  photos one at a time. This is for 400 photos one at a time?  this is crazy  man.
it should simply go to " all my files" snd grab the photos it needs!
Help. This eats up too much time.

it should simply go to " all my files" snd grab the photos it needs!
It does.  You must have a damaged library.  You say you upgraded to iPhoto 9 (11).  What warning does iPhoto give you when you try to use it?
If you went inside the iPhoto Library package and moved photos around that will damage/corrupt the database that iPhoto uses.i t should simply go to " all my files" snd grab the photos it needs!
Explain what you're seeing and what steps you took to fix the problem.  Then we can attempt to suggest an approach to fix the problem.
