Finding photos that do NOT contain keywords?

Is there any way in iPhoto to find photos that do not have any keywords associated with them? Thanks!

  • How can I find photos that are not assigned to any collection?

    Hi !
    I'm using LR 5.7.1 on a Mac.
When I've retouched raw pictures with PS CC (and do not need the PSD file any longer) I export the PSD (that is in my catalog) as JPG and let it add to my catalog automatically. After that I delete the PSD file. That works fine.
But .... the new JPG file is not assigned to any collection. That's no problem unless I forget to do it manually after that export (and import).
That brings me to my question.
How can I find photos that are not assigned to any collection?
I tried it with a smart collection after I found nothing suitable in library filter. The search criteria I tried are Source -> Collection with any of the conditions. One with an empty value field, then with just a space and so on.
Has anybody a good hint for me?
    Thomas

You can also add numbers if you have collections that don't use alphabet characters.

  • How do I find all of the photos that do NOT contain a specific person tag?

I am scanning my old photos and slides and organizing them with Photoshop Elements 12.   I have recently started taging the pictures with family names.   I see from this forum that I can search for untagged pictures but how can I find all the pictures that do NOT contain the "Smith" family tag but might contain the "Jones" family tag?  Some pictures will be marked with more than one family name.  The "Find by Details" option defaults to "includes" for keywords and people.  There is no way to set it to "not includes".
I am running PSE12 on Windows 7 Professional on a Dell XPS desktop.
    Thanks for any suggestions.
    Don K.

    See the online help:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/elements-organizer/using/finding-media-files-keyword-tags.html#excl ude_media_files_from_a_search
The workaround is often to create a temporary tag for pictures not having a given keyword. Even with a very big catalog, tagging nearly all images is astonishly quick. You select based on the keyword, then use the option to show 'non matching' items, and assign them another (negative) keyword.

  • How can I find photos that are not in any event?

Help!  I have finally, after a decade or so, organized my events and emptied out the trash and gotten rid of duplicates. Round of applause, please.  How can I find out if there are sneaky pictures that are NOT in any particular event (please dont say by showing all photos and just going through each one!)

You can't because every photo is in an Event already. That's how iPhoto works. Every photo is in the LIbrary. The Library is built upon events. SO if it's in iPhoto, it's in the Library and in an Event.
Albums are different, as they refernce photos in the LIbrary. It;s perfectly possilbe to have a photo in the Library but not in an album.

  • Apple script to locate and assign photos that do not belong to an album

Is there an Apple script to locate photos that do not belong to an album and assign them to one specific album where you can distribute them. I just finished using an apple script for iTunes that does that job and have been searching for an apple script to do the same.
    Thanks For The Help
    Dan

You can easily find photos that are not in any albums by using a Smart Album with the criteria:
    Album is not Any
From there you'll have to manually drag them to their destination album.
However, once you move photos to another album you'll have to leave it and then go back to it to see the changes you've made. It doesn't automatically update changes while you're viewing it.

  • Every time I open iPhoto a window opens telling me that there are 3 photos that have not been imported. Recovered folders are opened with no photos and I cannot find which photos have not been imported. Help please!

Every time I open iPhoto a window opens telling me that there are 3 photos that have not been imported. This happens twice. When I answer yes then nothing happens and if I answer no then a recovered folder is opened with no photos in it. These recoverable folders keep opening with no photos in them. I cannot find which photos have not been imported. Can anyone assist please?

Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for a Folder called 'Import' or 'Importing'.
Drag it to the Desktop. *Make no other changes*.
    Start iPhoto. Does that help?
If it does then look inside that folder on your desktop. Does it contain anything you want? If not you can trash the folder.

  • Is there a way to add photos to the iPad without replacing the ones already loaded?  I am trying to add photos from a folder on a computer that does not contain the other iPad photos.

Is there a way to ADD photos to my iPad without replacing the ones already there?  I am trying to add photos from a computer that does not contain photos already synced to the device.

You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

  • Finder Searches for Files That Do NOT Contain Certain Words

Is it possible to do a search in the Finder for files that do NOT contain a certain word?

As far as I know you can't do that. It would be lovely to pipe the results of one search into another....
What happens is if you specify a type folder, then exclude a file system name, the command excludes folders that have the word in their name.
You may want to take a look at this:
    http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Carbon/Conceptual/SpotlightQuery/index. html
See the section on "Query Expression Syntax" and the one on "Spotlight Metadata Attributes Reference" (click link, then click the link in the Introduction to the section). Most the other stuff is of interest mainly to programmers, but those two sections are actually useful to regular folks.

  • I'm trying to order album and I'm getting this message:Your book seems to have frames on one or more pages that do not contain photos. You must either change the layout of those pages or place photos in those frames before you can proceed with this book.

I'm trying to order an album and I'm getting this message:
Your book seems to have frames on one or more pages that do not contain photos. You must either change the layout of those pages or place photos in those frames before you can proceed with this book.
As far as I can see I have placed pictures on all the pages. I admit that on some pages I could have placed 3 or 4 pictures but I chose to use ony one or two. Could that be the problem?

    Yes -
Your book seems to have frames on one or more pages that do not contain photos. You must either change the layout of those pages or place photos in those frames before you can proceed with this book.
The error seems pretty clear - you must have a photo in evey photo frame in order to place your order - so you must either change the layout (if you only want one photo on a page then use a layout with one photo) or put photos in the spots you have not filled

  • LR3 Syncronize folder finds "missing" photos that are not missing

Having switched to LR3 I made some new catalogs and syncrnized some folders.  LR3 kept find a ton of missing photos though and I was sure they were not missing.  SO I clicked on the "show missing files" button and sure enough it just showed me hundreds of photos that were not actually missing.  I checked them by right clicking on them and using the "show in finder" option to check that they were indeed still on my disk.
Whats happening ?  It seems to do it every time and I have tried it with several folders.  Every time it thought it found hundreds of missing photos.

    Melissa,
I did not upgrade my catalog from LR2 to 3 , instead I started an entirely new catalog. I was hoping then to import some old LR2 catalogs into the new LR3 one but alas that plan has fallen foul of the import bug that effects importing catalogs with the same folders in them so I cant do that..... but thats all in another thread.
I think maybe I was not clear enough becuase it sounds like you didnt quite catch my point.  My point is that the photos are not missing at all, they ares still clrearly displayed in the catalog and I can double click them and open them no problem.  I do not have to locate them at all. They are still there.  It is just lightroom saying they are not there when i sync a folder.
So to clarify, when i syncronize,it tells me that X number of files are missing.  If I click the button to "show missing files"  all the photos that it shows, are still there.  It does not display them as missing, it displays them as normal.  Now this would not reall be a problem except that the sync default is to remove missing files.  So if you leave that option selected, LR removes a ton of files that were not missing!
Does that make it clearer, sorry i was not so clear the first time.

  • When I click on purchase book, i get message "Incomplete Book. Your book seems to have frames on one or more pages that do not contain photos." I have checked the page layouts several times and no missing seem to be missing.

when I click on purchase book, i get message "Incomplete Book. Your book seems to have frames on one or more pages that do not contain photos." I have checked the page layouts several times and no missing seem to be missing. Any suggestion? page layouts and number of photos are consistent. several pages are identified as custom, as a result of captions added to several photos. I'm using a macpro and iphoto11.

There is one or more missing photo - typically a page background requiring a photo that is hidden behind a layout with photos in it - look through every page for that - any page tha thas a grey background rather than color is a problem - and it ccan be behind a full page photo so you have to check the page background rather than just look at the page

  • Find photos that aren't shared

Aperture photo sharing (via iCloud) is easy to setup but it seems really difficult to maintain.
    - it's well-established, it seems, that there is no way to have shared photos automatically pick up subsequent edits.
    - not all the photos I selected to share actually got shared. I can't just select the same set to be shared, because then duplicate images of the ones already shared will be added. Is there a way to find photos that are in a given album/project but not shared? At least that way I can just re-add the ones that, for whatever reason, didn't make it the first time (though, it does seem like some photos stubbornly refuse to be shared).
I tried creating a smart album based on photos in a given project but not in project path "icloud" (the shared photos indicate they are in project path "icloud"), but that didn't work. Which makes sense, since they are basically separate photos.
Since it seems shared photos are treated as separate copies in their own "project" I don't think there is a way to figure out which photos are not already shared, unfortunately.
All my photos are jpgs. Aperture 3.5.1, OS X 10.9.2.

Are you asking about photos in shared Photo streams or about My Photo Stream?
Photos that have been shared successfully are not marked in a special way. The only way to mark them in your Aperture library would be to manually tag them. When browsing the Shared Stream, use the "Show in Library" button, to show the original in your Aperture library. Then add a keyword, or flag, or coulour label it, so you can set up a filter to exclude it.

  • How do I use the location bar to search for phrases that do not contain spaces?

When I type phrases that contain spaces into the search bar, it brings up a google search as specified by my about:config under keyword.URL
However, when I type anything that *does not* contain a space (e.g. potatoes), firefox tries to connect to http://potatoes/, returning a "cannot establish connection to server at potatoes"
my keyword.URL is set to: http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=
    browser.fixup.alternate.enabled is *false*
browser.urlbar.autocomplete.enabled is *true* (though I don't think this has anything to do with it)

hello jywang74, please update to firefox version 33.0.2 - there you'll see a different behaviour (keyword.url is no longer used btw, the address bar uses the same search provider as set in the searchbar).

  • It it possible to look for a page that does not contain a string?

Is it possible in the search feature in Dreamweaver CS3 to find all pages that do NOT contain a specific string?

I don't think so, at least not directly. I could be wrong, Regular Expressions can be pretty powerful, I'm not sure how well they're implemented in CS3 though: http://www.adobe.com/devnet/dreamweaver/articles/regular_expressions_pt1.edu.html
Maybe you could do a find/replace of that specific string, with itself.
All of the files that have it would be updated without actually changing the code.
The Date Modified for the file would change though.
The files without the string of info you are looking for would have the old modification date.

  • How to search for documents that do not contain a word in a section?

For example: (deleted% within folder) finds all documents that have deleted in the folder
I want to find all documents that do not contain "deleted%" within folder.

If you have other criteria, then you can use "other criteria NOT deleted% within folder". However, if there is no other criteria, then you cannot just begin with NOT, so you have to use "% NOT deleted% within folder", but on a large data set that will result in an error about the wildcard expanding to too many terms.
