Finding protected files in my library

About 10% of my iTunes files are still protected. I'd like to find them and put them in a special playlist but I haven't managed to find an efficient way of finding them all and listing them. Any tip?
Thanks

If they're songs you purchased from iTunes, try setting up a Smart Playlist with the rule Kind Contains protected.
Good luck

  • ITunes can no longer find my files from external Library

I have a PC using Windows 7, I have had my iTunes library stored on an external drive for ages and it has been working brilliantly. I have recently done some updates both for iTunes and my 3rd gen iPad, tried to sync some different movies to my iPad and iTunes can't find my files any more. The location of my library had reverted to the local drive, I tried to change it back but to no avail. The files are still on the external drive, when I try to open them with iTunes manually, iTunes tries to open but then says a problem has occured and it must terminate, it offers to find a solution online but (after the first time when it said an update was available to fix the problem and i downloaded it) it then just closes. The version of iTunes is 10.7.0.21 on the iPad, I am running iOS 6.0.1

Locate and remove the iPod Photo Cache folder(s). A new one will be recreated the next time you sync Photos with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod. Deleting this folder will not remove the original images from your library, but may solve your sync problem.

  • HT2531 How can Spotlight find a file in the Library (in an app's plugin folder)?

I'm writing a plugin for SketchUp that lives in SketchUp's plugins folder in the system Library.  Even when I put an alias of the plugins folder out on the desktop, Spotlight can't seem to find it (my plugin file).  I've learned the trick of using the option key to reveal the Library folder in the Go menu, but why does the file remain 'hidden' from Spotlight after I've drug an alias of its folder out to the desktop?
I also tried using Terminal to patch Hidden to NoHidden without reliable results.  Yuck.
Thanks for any help you can offer,
    John Trotter

To view system and hidden files, use the Finder (cmd-F) to find.
From the criteria popup menu, select Other...
From that list that pops up, find System Files and Visibility; check both so they stay in the menu.
When searching for system files or hidden files, use those criteria.

  • Finding RAW Files in Aperture Library

I use a referenced Aperture system and NEVER intentionally load RAW files into the Aperture library unless I forget to check my settings. Well, I recently forgot to check my settings and I believe I sent a set of the files to the wrong place. I know there is a way to get into the Aperture library because I've been there before, but I forgot how I did it. Please show me the way Thanks.

Assuming you want to move these photos from the Library to elsewhere on the HD the best way is to do it via Aperture, which means that it will keep track of the locations.
Essentially, select the Project(s) in the Aperture Window that you want to move then go File -> Relocate masters for Project, select the destination and let it do it's thing. There are other options, including folder structure etc, check the manual for more.

  • Open PDF's in new window in document library when using "Find a file" search

I need to be able to open PDF's in a new window from a document library when using the "Find a file" search built into the document library "All documents" view. I currently have the following javascript on the page:
    _spBodyOnLoadFunctionNames.push("setTargetBlank()");
    function setTargetBlank()
    { $("a[href$='.pdf']").removeAttr('onclick').attr("target", "_blank");
This works great when going to the document library and navigating through the folders then clicking on a link.
The problem is when someone goes to the document library then uses the "Find a file" search and then they click on a link. The "Find a file" search does not do a postback (reload) of the page, therefore my javascript to find the PDF links
and make them open in a new window does not run for the links on the page.
I have read the following article but this does not seem to offer a solution that will work in this situation for SharePoint 2013 (Office 365): http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/sharepoint/en-US/7ad3224c-3165-47ae-95bc-4f3928e2f9a8/opening-document-library-pdf-in-a-new-window-sharepoint-2013?forum=sharepointgeneral
I suppose the idea solution would be to somehow tap into the event that is fired when using "Find a file" search to run my javascript and update the links for the search results.
Can anyone offer any solutions to this issue?

    Hi,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to open PDF files in a new window from a document library when using the "Find a file" search.
As you said, the "Find a file" search does not do a postback (reload) of the page, therefore JavaScript to find the PDF links and make them open in a new window does not run for the links on the page.
I recommend to use JS link to achieve the goal. Create a JavaScript override file and upload the JavaScript file to the Master Page Gallery, and then set the JS Link property of the document library web part to point to the JavaScript file.
Here are some links about the JS link in SharePoint 2013 for you to take a look:

  • Sorting DRM copy protected files from an iTunes library

I want to copy my iTunes library, without picking up the DRM copy protected files.
Is there a way I can copy the files using a script that will skip the copy protected files?
Looking at get info the file type is different, unfortunately my scripting skills are remedial.
    Thanks!

The easiest way to do this doesn't require AppleScript. In iTunes create a new "Smart Playlist". In the dialog that appears, select "Kind" from the first pull down menu, "does not contain" from the second pull down menu, and type "Protected" without the quotes in the text field. This will create a smart playlist of all of your non-DRM items. From there, select all of the items in the playlist and drag them to a folder in the Finder. Might be a long copy but it should do the job.

Hello! I have one iTunes library on my iPod and one iTunes library on my computer. When I connect my iPod touch to my PC, however, I cannot find any files in my iPod except for pictures. How can I find the music files so I can add them to my iTunes?

    You can't do that.
And before you decide to store any music that you own on a computer at work, talk to your IT department. Many organizations do not permit it for legal reasons. Standard policies are that anything stored on company owned computers is the property of the company. It could not be legally stored on their machines unless you transfer the licenses and all copies, physical and digital, to the company, meaning you no longer own the music. If they were to be audited and could not prove that they own the music, they would be subject to copyright violation penalties. Just use your iPod when you're at the office if you want to listen to music.

  • Trying to export RAW originals from Aperature 3 to LightRoom 4: I choose File Export Originals. I think then Pictures LR. But then I can't find files in LR library.Files seem stuck in Pictures as NEF

Trying to export RAW originals from Aperature 3 to LightRoom 4: I choose File>Export>Originals. Then Pictures>LR. But then I can't find files in LR library.Files seem stuck in Pictures as NEF and or DNG files. I know Im stuck on something dumb but I am stuck. Help?

You now need to import those files into Lightroom.
BTW, Lightroom uses a "referenced" system so your images will always be in the folders you download/copy them to. Lightroom is a database first and foremost, albeit with non-destructive editing capabilities (effectively Adobe Camera Raw).

  • Mavericks Finder Find File doesn't find files in [Root]/Library

I wanted to put the "Epson Printer Utility 4" application in my dock bar. So in Finder, I selected File > Find, and set it to "Name" "begins with" "Epson Printer". Mavericks found the "Epson Printer Finder" application in [Root] / Applications / Epson Software, but it did not find "Epson Printer Utility 4" in [Root] / Library / Printers / EPSON / InkjetPrinter2 / Utility / UT4. As a test, I also tried File > Find for the "World Clock" widget in [Root] / Library / Widgets - also not found. Both files are fully visible to me, and I have have Admin privileges. I set my Finder preferences to "Search This Mac" when performing a search. I can't find any other preference to have Mavericks really, truly search ALL of This Mac, including the root directory folders. Any help? Thanks, Peter

Download and run Find Any File to search for the file by Name contains "xxxx".
FAF can search areas that Spotlight can't like invisible folders, system folders and packages.

  • I can not find File "Import to Library" in iPhoto.

Nevermind. After I sent this I found it in the File on the banner tab at the top of my screen.

  • Does anyone know if there's any way to find out what files in my Library

Does anyone know if there's any way to find out what files in my Library I can delete? I just cleaned off my HD onto a media drive as a back up so all my movies documents and photos are gone but my Library seems to be a huge space hog eating sixty gigs of space and I do have alot of apps but they don't take up a third of that space... Any ideas how I can figure out what is wasting all this space? I had Spring Cleaning once but found it to be rather confusing as to what was essential to the OS and what not...
    Thanks,
    Matt

Get free OmniDisk Sweeper. I can't imagine how you could have sixty GB in that folder. My entire ~Library isn't even 1GB. Are you sure you're not talking about your entire Home folder?
Can you post a screenshot of the contents of that folder.
Check again. Are you sure you moved all the Movies etc. out? Could have left duplicates of everything behind when you did this.

  • I try to open iPhoto and it asks what library file I want to use. I have Find Any File application that someone once gave me the "magic" file to search for, but I do not remember the file

I had this problem before and someone gave me a "magic" filename to search for using my Find Any File application, but I cannot remember the file name.  Is it iPhoto6-something?

    Hello Joel,
Don't know how to determine my OS
To determine your OS click on the apple in the upper left corner of your screen and click "About this Mac". The "About" panel will tell you all about your Mac.
On my mac (OS 10.7.3) I can search for iPhoto Libraries like this:
Select my Home Folder in the Finder
Type in ⌘-F to activate a search
Set the "Search" to "This Mac"
Set the "Kind" selector to "Other" and enter "iPhoto Library" into the search field.
This should reveal all iPhoto Libraries on your Mac.
With "Find any File" you could search for the ".iPhoto"-extension.

  • I can not add a wmv file to the library. It is not protected

Can not add a video file to Itunes library and even when I try to open the video using "open with Itunes", Itunes start but instead of the video I see the music library

iTunes cannot play nor convert WMV files. You'll need to use a third-party application to convert the video to a format iTunes can accept.

  • How do I keep a Pages 09 password protected file in iCloud?

After uploading a Pages 09 password protected file from my laptop it shows as a page with the Pages 09 icon in the center (no visible text) in iCloud.  So far so good.  But once I open that doc using my iPhone, a task that as expected requieres entering the password, the protection seems to disapear and the file gets saved without the protection right in iCloud. The icon for the document changes from the Pages icon I described above to the text of the first page, just as a regular file, and if I try to open it back again entering the password is not requiered!
How do I keep the file password protected?
    Thanks.  Ale

Files stored in iCloud are stored locally as well as on some remote Apple server - just not on the desktop. You cannot keep the file on the desktop but you should be able to locate it in your Mobile Documents folder, make an alias, and put the alias on your desktop.
The Mobile Documents folder is in your Library folder (hold option while selecting the Go menu in the Finder) and your Numbers documents are located in com~apple~Numbers
