Finding stolen itouch?

My iTouch was stolen, I filed a police report and have the serial number. A friend told me that if I called 1-800-my apple they could locate it for me, she said it was how she found her stolen ipod. I called and they said they could when I got the police file case # (at the time I hadnt filed a report) Looking online today though most people say apple will do nothing, and that its not true. Is it? If its not is there anything at all I can possibly do. They have access to my emails and my everything. They tried to buy things on my account but apple shut it down after they failed the password so many times.

I could be wrong but I think they can only do this if you subscribed to the service called "Mobile Me".

Outside of that - I do not think they can find it for you.
I looked into the Mobile Me service and at this time I did not find it worth it. Its $99 a year. Other than the finding service it offers - all the other stuff it offers is not something I would be interested in. So for me - it would be $99 a year for the ability to find my lost/stolen iTouch. Two years of that and you can just buy a new one. I just don't see the value. They would need to offer this service for around $25 for to to buy.
Maybe they should sell tiers of Mobile Me. $25 gets you the lost/stolen service, $50 gets you that plus back up. $99 gets the full thing.
Anyway - sorry to rant. But I don't think the ycan help you unless you bought Mobile Me.

  • How to find stolen itouch with serial number

As many of you, I got my iPod touch 4gen stolen during a trip, so it is difficult to know exactly where it happened. I did not have MobileMe etc activated, so only info I have is the serial number from original box as I bought it new.
    What can I do ?
    Can the police help ?
It must be so easy to track it when it is connected to a wifi connection....

There is no way to do this, all you can do is report the device stolen with the police and give them the serial number of the device.
Hopefully if they recover this then they will be able to contact them.
There is no way to activate find my device after it has been lost.
as you need to sign into the service on the device and agree to the terms.

  • Finding my stolen iTouch

So earlier this week my Ipod Touch was stolen from me, and I was wondering if there were any ways to find it.
I did not have MobileMe, any GPS apps, and use Wifi only, but I did have TextNow, Facetime, and Runtastic Pro, and was not sure if any of those apps could be used to find it.
I've tried sending texts and facetime requests with friends' phones, but nothing. However, Runtastic uses GPS to find the location you are jogging around, so is there any way I can use that to find my Itouch?
I've registered it as lost/stolen, but I'm out of ideas now. If nothing works, I'll just have to buy a new one.
    Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the response, is there any way to at least have it be flagged by Apple in case it is taken to a store for repairs, etc? Probably unlikely that it will be, but whatever helps I suppose.

  • Tracking a stolen itouch

can a stolen itouch be tracked?

    Hi Robert,
I can only think of two possible solutions for your problem here you can alert the police (although you probably have) or you can track it using the free app Find My iPhone although I think you may of had to register it on the ipod.
If none of this helps I'm sorry for your inconveniecne.

  • Stolen iTouch thinking about calling the police? What do you think?

Guys I am desperate and I am serching all over the interenet and seeing if the police can do much. Here is what I found:
Go to the police and report it stolen. Give them the serial number and they will enter it into NCIC, and if it is turned into any police station they will check NCIC and you'll get it back. If you don't report and stolen and your boss is the one who stole it then you can't do much because it isn't technically "stolen" because you don't have a report. It's great that you have the serial number. Best of luck to you"
Do I tell them the Serial Number, and the file a court order, or thats what I heard.
Can the thief get caught even if they restored the iTouch?
Can the police talk to apple and ask them to get the serial number of a certain device and where it was used or even the Apple ID used on that device?

I just saw this yahoo answer thing
Can you track a stolen iPod touch 4g AFTER it's been stolen.?
Well, you see... I lost mi ipod touch at school, somewhere between 2-5th period. And I have the serial number. Is there ANY way I can track it.?! Everyone keeps telling me "Call Apple..." But I've read articles about this that says things like... "Apple won't do **** to help you, they say they can't track it, but it's only because they want consumers to buy more product..." or whatever... also, everything says you have to install a tracking app BEFORE the ipod is stolen. Well, that being the case I havn't, obviously. But there must be SOME way, anyway I can track it. So if you can help/support mi, please comment. And DON'T say anything like "Your outa luck...." or any **** like that. Yahoo! Answers are for help, not rejection theory. Thank you : )

  • Recovering MAC address of a stolen iTouch

Not that I'm holding my breath, but is there a way to get the MAC address of a stolen iTouch? It's got to be stored by iTunes somehow... And, assuming I find the MAC address, is there any way to locate the iTouch?

    Hi,
If you don't already have the serial number, you may be able to get it from iTunes by holding the Control key and clicking Help > About iTunes, as described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1459#one

  • How do you find your itouch without icloud or a serial number?

how do you find your itouch without icloud or a serial number?

The old fashioned way, like if lost your shoe.
    - Change the passwords for all accounts used on the iPod and report to police
    - There is no way to prevent someone from restoring the iPod (it erases it) using it.
    - Apple will do nothing
Reporting a lost or stolen Apple product
    - iOS: How to find the serial number, IMEI, MEID, CDN, and ICCID number
A serial number will only help identify the iPod as yours if it is recovered.

  • Stolen iTouch 2G

Just curious. I recently had my 16 GB iTouch 2G stolen. I did not have any security enabled on the device, although it was engraved on the back and I have the serial number and the MAC address for the device. Seems that the MAC address would be a unique identifier, although not necessarily readily available over the network.
Was wondering if Apple has a way to track devices with that information or a method to otherwise disable the device? I already reported it stolen to "Apple" and to the local police. Not too optimistic about getting it back, but seems like there should be a way to find it given the high tech world that we live in.

Ok so from what I've read Apple has no way to track stolen devices nor can they help you. I contacted Apple today petaining to my stolen Itouch and told them that it was registered through Itunes. I couldn't find anything pertaining to ipods registered through my account and when they put me on hold while they talked with their supervisor and the representative notified me that they couldn't give me the serial number of the ipods registered to me (it is private information). Now Apple has an outside company listed on their website which mentions that they can track your Ipod, Itouch, etc., it will lock up the device and instruct the person to return it to the rightful owner and supposedly it can help you track the device. But of course I don't have the serial number to initate this. To end off I asked the rep if there was anything else he can suggest and he said that he could give me information to the nearest Apple store, to buy a new one, I really wanted to cuss him out at this point. I am not impressed with the lack of support and the sheer disrespect with that suggestion alone! Yes Apple is out to make more money.

  • How do i reset my ipod when it says disabled connect to itunes and when i connect it can't find my itouch?

Hi  How do I reset my ipod touch when it says "disabled connect to itunes" and when I connect to itunes it can't find the itouch?

There have been some problems accessing pages on the Apple web site.  If the hyperlink gives you a "We're sorry" message, try again.

  • Stolen itouch

Can someone charge to my itunes account after finding my itouch?

Not unless they know/guess your iTunes password.

  • Digital Editions Can't find my iTouch

I have Digital Editions installed and have authorized it. I also have down-loaded a book that I
want to transfer to my iTouch v4.1. When I plug it in, Digital Editions does not find it and I'm stopped
cold. iTunes finds the iTouch and I can see it from my Windows Explorer so I know I'm connected.
What now? I'm stuck and tried everything I can think of. I'm using Windows 7.

Found a good work-around. Go to iTunes, plug in your iTouch and to to APPS. Scroll down to your device
on bottom of the screen and click on "ADD". FInd the book you downloaded with ADE and select.
Many thanks to the following source:

This was a great help, and I would guess it might work for other devices as well.

  • Stolen itouch! how do i find it without location services?

My itouch ws stolen this morning, and im wondering how to find it. I havent got the location services tuned on, and im not sure if the find my iphone app was enabled. Do i still have a chance on finding it?
    Thanks so much in advance!

Sorry, no. The only way to locate any lost/stolen iPod Touch or iPhone is by using Find My Phone. However, this requires that Find My Phone be turned on, on your Touch. If not, then there's no way to locate it now.
Change your passwords & report the loss to the Police, & your Insurance company.

  • How to find a LOST not stolen, Itouch 4g with the serial number?

Ok, so i lost my Itouch, at my friends house, but i was doing laudry with her so i dont know if its just at her apartment, or at the laundromat, or if i just lost it walking out, I definetly do not want to report it stolen, bc it probably just fell out of my pocket, any help would be apriciated. BTW i have the serial number (duh)

You cannot locate it with the serial number.
IF you activated find my ipod on the ipod itself, BEFORE it was lost, AND it is on, AND it is connected to wi-fi, then you may be able to find the registered street address of the router to which it is connected.

  • How to find my stolen itouch

My Itouch was stolen.  How do I locate it?  can I search by serial number?

The SN will not help you.  Even the "Find my..." function is somewhat useless if the thief has half a brain.
There is no protection for the device itself.  However, you can easily protect your information.  In the future, use a secure password (eight characters) and configure the device to automatically wipe clean after ten consecutive unsuccessful password attempts.
