Finding the max in a two dimensional array

Question

I am writing a program and right now I am trying to print the maximum value of the items in the first row of the array. When I print out the result it is giving me is a crazy output that reads "D@3e25a5". Can someone please point me in the right direction?

When you use the statement return max; then it returns the reference to the max, not the actual values thats why you have got the strange output. You can print the maximum values using a for loop in the same method max(), so no need to return a value.

for(int i = 0; i < 4; i++){
max1 = table[0];
for(int j=1; j<5; j++){
if(max1 < table[i][j]){
max1 = table[i][j];
max[i] = max1;
