Finding the original path of Alias

Im trying to write a script for indesign that will place an image in a rectangle. the problem is that the system I am on works with alias(s). Indesign won't place those.
So I need help trying to get the Original path or the item/art and use that to place it into the rectangle.
here is the part I'm having the trouble with
tell application "Adobe InDesign CS5"
set theImage to (choose file default location (myAdtrack) with prompt "Please select an image to place:" without invisibles) as alias
------this goes to the folder to find the artwork which is an alias, and wont place
------Need to find its original path
------set the path to a variable
------and then place it
tell rectangle 1 of page 1 of document 1
place theImage
fit theImage given content to frame
end tell
Hopefully someone can help

Let's suppose "My alias.jpg", located on the Desktop, is an alias of an image located in the Pictures folder.
*set theImage to (choose file)* -- > alias "Macintosh HD:Users:pierre:Desktop:My alias.jpg"
*tell application "Finder" to set theFile1 to original item of theImage*
--> document file "My image.jpg" of folder "Pictures" of folder "pierre" of folder "Users" of startup disk of application "Finder"
*set theFile2 to theFile1 as alias* -- > alias "Macintosh HD:Users:pierre:Pictures:My image.jpg"
*set thePath to POSIX path of theFile2* -- > "/Users/pierre/Pictures/My image.jpg"
*set theFile3 to POSIX file thePath* -- > file "Macintosh HD:Users:pierre:Pictures:My image.jpg"
Hope it can help.

  • I need to find the original library of my iPhotos

    Hi Terence,
    by mistake i clicked on the "create new" project when iphoto opened. ive lost all pictures and videos fo my childrfen over the past two years. i do have copies on an external hard disk so i didnt panic, however when i imported back these, i have the pictures but the videos who show each a different capacity, when opening it gives a duration of zero, and when played the playing bar rolls from the beigning to the end of the vdeo in a second. worst thing is that i realized then that the same is found on the copies ive made, so i havent any correct version of these videos. my only hope is to find the original library of my iphotos and redirect it to it, but i cant seem to find it, even under the following path: macintosh hd-users-(my name)- pictures-iphoto library- masters, i only find 2013 then 12 (december)...nothing before
    these are the vidoes of my two young childfen and its horrifying to have lost these videos of them growing up, please help me

    Try downloading Find Any File
    http://apps.tempel.org/FindAnyFile/
    this is a search app that looks in places the Spotlight doesn't. Set it to search the machine for folder names like
    Originals
    Previews
    and see what it finds. It will find the current Library that you have, so you're looking for these ina different location.
    If it finds nothing then you're into File Recovery software like File Salvage - you can download a free trial and it will scan the disk for you and tell you with might be recoverable. Actual recovery will require that you purchase the app. There may be many files with the same or similar names. Always recover the largest file size.
    There are other such apps. Search on Macupdate or the App Store

  • How can we find the original XML Name of a Field

    Hi All,
    Just like the Reports To Field has XML Name as *[<ManagerFullName>]*
    Can anyone tell me how I can find the Original XML Name for the "Reports To (Alias)" User field?.
    Thanks in advance,
    Royston

    My scenario is that,
    When a user saves a new campaign I want to change the owner of this campaign to the user he reports to i.e(Manager Alias) Since the Owner field takes the Alias Name.
    To achieve this I have created a workflow to assign that Campaign to the Manager.
    Here is the Code snippet
    The triggering event is : Before modified record is saved.
    action is Update Field Owner with UserValue('<ManagerAlias>')
    Unfortunately its not accepting the ManagerAlias field....I have tried a similar scenario with the <ManagerFullName> field and its working fine.
    Thanks,

  • How do I find the original photo that is used in one of my contact photo in "Contacts"?

    Hi everyone,
    I am in a bit of a dilemma. I desperately need to find and/or access the original photo used as a contacts photo in the OSX built in app "Contacts". I can resize the photo and I can see it in full but I can't find the original anywhere and in any way.
    I'd really appreciate some help here, as the photo is dear to my heart but seems to have gone missing. It was originally scanned in but isn't showing up where all my scanned photos are saved. Eek!
    If anyone has any pointers on where I could find this photo in its original size, please do share them!
    Ta,
    posies

    Hi DonTimo,
    I've tried doing that, but in the said folder there are only default pictures. I can't find the images of any contacts in the app "Contacts" anywhere. The thread you refered me to and many others that are smilar to it, date back to about 2009-2010.
    Really need this photo.  Any other pointers?

    If neither of the above and you don't have the CD and can't find your tracks on the computer then they you're stuck.  A file recovery utility will cost $100, plus another $100 for an external drive to which to resue the files, and may not even work.  You can buy a lot of CDs for $200.

  • How do I install OS 10.7 NOT 10.7.5 on a mac running Snow Leopard 6.8  i.e. where can I find the original install app for Lion OS 10.7.0?

    I'm running 10.6.8 Snow Leopard fine on my MacPro1,1, Dual-Core Intel Xeon, 2.66 GHz  Mac, but I need to install Lion 10.7.0 to run a program I need.How do I install OS 10.7 NOT 10.7.5, because I get this message when I try to install 10.7.5, which I've downloaded:"This update requires Mac OS X version 10.7." on a mac running Snow Leopard 10.6.8, So i need to install the original 10.7.0 over the 10.6.8  i.e. where can I find the original install app for Lion OS 10.7.0? The original Lion 10.7. is not avaialable for purchase from the App store or anywhere,  even C-Net . Where can I find it to purchase?
    Also it seems I cannot install Mountain Lion over 10.6.8 as advertised. When I go to purchase I get this message: "We could not complete your purchase. OS X Mountain Lion is not compatible with this computer."   I think my computer can handle it (specs above) Are there any workarounds to this?

    If you're getting a "This update requires Mac OS X version 10.7" message, than you have the updater and not the full installer. Go to your Purchases section of the Mac App Store and you should see the full version there. But it may be 10.7.5, though in my system is shows as being from 2011 which would appear to be the original version.
    As to Mountain Lion, that's supported only on the Early 2008 Mac Pro or newer.
    Regards.

  • Finding the exact path of a file using a Java program

    Can anyone tell me how to find the exact path of a file which is saved in a directory other than the one in which the main file is saved? I know there is a class called File which has many methods like isAbsolutePath() and isPath() but they return the path in which the main class is located

    actually i m trying to write a program which will
    take a name of a file or a directory from the console
    and it should give the entire path of that file or
    directory and this file need not be stored in the
    path of the main class.....It can be stored in any
    drives of my PC....Ok, then the console input needs to be an absolute path or a path relative to some given directory (usually the one from which the application is started). Java cannot magically guess absolute paths if you just provide a file name. E.g. if I'd use your program and would provide as input "build.xml", how should the program know which file by that name I mean (there are lots of build.xml files in different locations on my machine)?

  • Finding the context path or docBase in a backing bean - Howto

    How should I go about finding the context path or docBase in a backing bean?
    Is there anyway to get this from glassfish or jsf? GlassFish proudly displayed it on the Application Server > Applications > Web Applications > page. It puts it there with an EL for example:
    ${com.sun.aas.instanceRoot}/applications/j2ee-modules/jsf-witaCan and/or should I try to use it in a backing bean? i.e. can I rely on it to stay defined?
    Or should I make a property which I can set for my backing work?

    Is this what you want?
    FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().getExternalContext().getContext()

  • Find the installation Path of the current running VM on Windows

    Hello,
    I have a java class started by webstart.
    In this class I would like to find the absolute path of the current running vm? This is important to me because I need to start an exe file (using ProcessBuilder) and hand it the path of the java VM,
    For example I could try something like this:
    private static File findJDK() throws Exception {
    String s = System.getProperty("java.home");
    File myJRE = new File(s);
    if (new File(myJRE, "bin/javac.exe").isFile()) {
    return myJRE;
    File parent = myJRE.getParentFile();
    if (new File(parent, "bin/javac.exe").isFile()) {
    return parent;
    for (String pathel : System.getenv("PATH").split(File.pathSeparator)) {
    File bindir = new File(pathel);
    if (new File(bindir, "javac.exe").isFile()) {
    return bindir.getParentFile();
    return myJRE;
    But I would like the above code to be more fool proof!
    For example the "java.home" could be wrongly set.
    Since java is allready running I would have hopped that I could query the Runtime. But there seems to be no method providing the running java VM path?
    I also tried looking at the jnlp services API but no luck.
    I would be also interested find the lastest java VM on the client Windows machine....
    Many greetings
    john

    Depends on whatr you mean
    Deleting from your phone does not delete from anywhere else
    HOWEVER deleting from your Photo stream does delete from the Photostream so anyone looking at the PS from any device will no longer see the photo
    But if your Mac iPhoto is set to automatically impor tphotos form PS or is you have manually imported photos from PS then onc ethey are imported they are on your Mac and change to PS will not affect them
