Finger Print scanner suddenly stopped working

The fingerprint scanner on my HP Envy dv6 stopped working when I opened the computer from hibernate this morning.  The device claims it is up to date.  The Biometric devices tab on the device manager is hidden and it reports the error code 45 (hardware device is not connected to the computer).  The device is called Validity Sensors (WBF) (PID = 0018) and it is version 4.4.234.0.  The scanner will not sign me into the computer nore does the simplepass show up when signed in.

Try this first; it may be enough to just 'kick' it gently.
Forced Power Reset – “Hard Reset”
Create a Restore Point   Create a Restore Point – Win7  OR  Create a restore point Win8
Close all your programs and Shut down the computer
Disconnect everything (little Unifier for the keyboard / external mouse can stay)
Perform the Hard Reset for your notebook
Boot the computer and log in
Hard Reset is a Driver Reset; this is NOT the Windows 8 Reset that installs the Operating System.  The Hard Reset procedure does not wipe out your files nor does it destroy your Windows setup in any way.

Open the file > Click on Download > Click “Open in Adobe Reader”

    Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook and Bluetooth and HP Simplepass complications since doing a Windows upgrade. Here is a link to the HP Support Assistant. Just download and run the application. Just to make sure all drivers and software are updated as well.
    Here is a document on troubleshooting and using Bluetooth if needed. Under the tips for finding a Bluetooth device, there is a section on making sure the wireless communication is turned on. This is an important section. 
    Here is another document with some great information about Bluetooth fixes.
    Here is a link to troubleshoot the HP Simplepass software.
    The HP SimplePass Identity Protection Software must be updated to v8.00.57 or later. Here is a link to download the latest. You will have to uninstall the old software.

  • Finger Print Scanner is not working after downloadin​g new SimplePass

    I upgraded my laptop ENVY dv6 to windows 8.1 and downloaded the compatible simplepass. I installed it and tried to start using it. When i had to swipe my finger for it to register my fingerprint and start using it, the finger scanner is not turning on and is not working.
    How do i fix this?

    Dose any one else have problems with the iPhone 5s finger print scanner??
    I've tried rescanning, different fingers, scanning different ways. But 95% of the time it just won't work. It is soooo frustring!! I would have saved a bunch of $ and bought a 5 or 5c if I wanted a phone that didn't fingerprint scan. has any one got advice that can help? It would be appreciated. I do work with my hands ( manual labour) but it's not like I tear up my fingers every day. Any help would be appreciated.

    If any one is still reading this thread you would know that I've been having problems with my finger print scanner. Well it turns out that the issue is not with the 5s but with my fingers. My fingers are too big for the scanner, so if your having trouble with your scanner try using just the very tip of your finger. I did a lot of research on my issue and found nothing suggesting this. My brother had the idea that this might be the problem and turns out he was right. Since rescanning the tip of my finger I have 100% success rate and am very happy with my new phone. Thanks again for all the help I got from people on this issue.

  • V4 Print Drivers suddenly stopped working on Windows 8.1 machine on a Windows 2012 r2 Domain

    Today one of our newly setup windows 8.1 machines stop printing to a Toshiba copier that was setup on a domain controller with the printers role installed.  The Toshiba copier was setup using Microsoft default Toshiba PLC6 V4 printer driver. 
    The computer in question was printing to the copier minutes before the user shutdown to go to lunch.  When the user returned, printing to the Toshiba copier was not working.  However others in the office where printing to the Toshiba copier
    just fine.  I decide to try and print to other printers and found that the Microsoft XPS printer was not working also.  I also found that all the other printers that where not using V4 printer drives printed just fine.  The Toshiba copier and
    Microsoft XPS printer both use V4 printer drivers.  I tried removing the Toshiba copier, but when re-adding the Toshiba copier a error message was given stating that the V4 driver could not be found.  This same process was tested
    on a known working computer and the printer was removed and added just find.  Next I logged onto the system as the administrator and found that the XPS printer was also not working under the admin account.  So I did not think this was a user
    only related issue and was a system wide issue.  So far my only idea is that something is missed up with the V4 driver system, but I have no idea where to start to go about fixing it.  Any ideas will be helpfully.

    Hi, my 5s started to act crazy. It wont recognize my print anymore despite of moisturizing my finger tips, thinking that the problem is in my skin but it did not work. So I decided to delete my print in the system thinking that it would resolve the issue, but it just make the things worst. It won't read any print of mine anymore.please help me, this annoys me all the time. Tnx

    The phone needs to train you to use Touch ID as well as you training the phone. Try deleting your fingerprints, and re-enter them. Move your finger around a little with each tap. Sometimes it helps to make two fingerprint recordings of the same finger.

  • When I installe Firefox version 4 my finger print scanner quit working. Any fixes for this?

    I downloaded and installed Fire Fox 4.0 a few weeks ago. As soon as I downloaded the new software, my finger print scanner quit working. The scanner light that normally appears when ever there is a request for entering a user name or password no longer turned on and the scanner was no longer functional. I removed the new Fire Fox version and re-installed version 3.6.17. My finger print scanner is now working again.

    Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.
    "Clear the Cache":
    * Firefox > Preferences > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"
    "Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
    * Firefox > Preferences > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
    Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
    *Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

    I've got my finger print scanner broken. I've got my iphone5s felt down from the bed . After that, the finger print scanner doesn't work as i can't unlock my iphone with my finger print . Also when i try to add another finger print , it said my finger was moved though i din't move my finger . At last, it said try a different finger. I'm pretty sure this is a hardware's problem (the finger print scanner) problem . If i brought my iphone to an apple store, would they fix or change the finger print scanner for me ? Thanks

    To rule out a software issue, try this:
    Reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again. You will not lose data by resetting.
    If this does not work, try to set it up as new device, explained in this article:
    How to back up your data and set up as a new device
    If still not luck, contact Apple to get it serviced.
    Apple - Support - Service Answer Center
    Apple does not repair parts of the phone, you'll get a replacement.

    My laptop has a finger print scanner that manages passwords. You scan your finger to log on to various pages or accounts instead of typing in the log in information. It worked flawlessly in the older version of Firefox, but since upgrading to Firefox 4 it no longer works. I checked and it still works with Windows.

    Some gestures have been removed in Firefox 4 and later.
    You can restore the zoom feature by changing the values of the related prefs on the about:config page.
    browser.gesture.pinch.in -> cmd_fullZoomReduce
    browser.gesture.pinch.in.shift -> cmd_fullZoomReset
    browser.gesture.pinch.out -> cmd_fullZoomEnlarge
    browser.gesture.pinch.out.shift -> cmd_fullZoomReset

    To open the about:config page, type about:config in the location (address) bar and press the "Enter" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.
    If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.
    Use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a preference more easily.
    Preferences that have been modified show as bold(user set).
    Preferences can be reset to the default or changed via the right-click context menu.

    TrueSuite Access Manager: Failed to open the specified database.
    I apologize if I am not posting on the correct board... My finger print scanner decided to stop working AFTER I did a clean install with Vista Home. I used the Toshiba Recovery Discs, and even tried it twice. It keeps giving me the "Error: failed to open the specified database".
    It will not allow me Delete All Fingerprints, even when ran as administrator. "Error: Failed to delete fingerprint!".
    SETTINGS> DELETE FINGERPRINTS, shows some Japanese text and Unknown Finger. I press delete and its gone. I exit and reopen and its back.
    I have uninstalled/reinstalled MANY times using the software on the Toshiba site. util_fingerprint_28299A.exe

    I read somewhere that prints are stored and the TAM needs to be uninstalled, so I found and ran also. util_tam_uninstall_TC00240000B.exe
    I have cleaned the registry. Ran CCleaner. Reinstalled numerous times, but I have not found any answers to this bug other than take it in for repair. I have a warranty, but I'd prefer not incase I have this problem again.

    I just called the customer support desk about TrueSuite 3.1.
    They said to keep checking the toshiba website for the updated software.
    When I mentioned about the numerous posts about TrueSuite 2.5.29 not working with IE8, the tech sounded suprised.
    If enough folks call in, maybe toshiba will add the 3.1 soon.

  • Touch ID suddenly stops working.

    I just got my iPhone 6 over a week ago and this is my first time having an iPhone with the Touch ID. Everything was working fine until today. The Touch ID decides to work then suddenly stops working then back and forth. When it doesn't get my finger print it says "try again" but it's not even trying to scan it. I've read a few posts about how your hands have to be clean, dry and to clean the home button with rubbing alcohol, etc. I've read and done it. I've also restarted my phone a few times in hopes it will fully start working again but no luck. I'll admit that I had my phone laying on a counter while I was taking a shower today and it got humid. But, I've done that in the past with other phones and they're perfectly fine. Do I have to be in a perfect temperature for the Touch ID sensor to work correctly forever or what??? I can still go back and change my phone but if this is a common problem then I rather just keep this phone.

    I have figured out the wall connection somehow messed with Touch ID. I noticed when it would only work while it wasn't charging. I changed the charger and it's working perfectly!! Leaving this post just in case someone has the same problem I had.

Firefox 4.0.1 does not know what to do when I scan my finger print on a login page. Can I remove Version 4 and go back to the old version that worked?
