Fingerprint Software 5.9.5 is broken on Win 7 - 64bit!

System update offered the new software today which I installed. The net result was that Windows Client Security Software claims that the fingerprint reader is not installed (Device Manager says it is), and no password capability is allowed with the FPR for Windows Log On or programs in the password manager. Power on password works and the finger prints are registered properly. I deleted all finger prints, re-registered them with the same effect.
I've reverted to Fingerprint Software 5.9.4 which restored all of my previous functions.

I just reproduced the same thing you reported on my W520. I had fingerprint version 5.9.4 and CSS version 8.30.0045, then ran System Update. It pulled down 5.9.5 and now CSS/PWMGR doesn't work with my fingerprint anymore (for the reason I described above). To fix this, all I did was update to the latest version of CSS from the link I posted above. Now everything is working again.
TVSU definitely needs to provide an update to CSS, if it is going to update FPR. This has nothing to do with how you installed CSS, it's just that the CSS update simply isn't on TVSU.

did you try this:
Place the item that you want to scan on the scanner glass, or load it into the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) if your printer has one.
In the Applications folder or from the Dock, click Preview.
From the Preview File menu, select Import from Scanner.
Select your printer from the list. The details of the scan display.
If a 'Software for this device is not installed' message displays after you select your printer, click Install, and then follow the instructions to complete the installation.
Click Show Details to view scan settings and options.
NOTE: Make sure that you select either the Flatbed mode or theDocument Feeder mode, depending on your printer and how you plan to scan.
Change any settings as necessary, and then click Scan.

It sounds like you have installed the 64 bit version of iTunes, but you continue to the get an error message that suggests to download the 64 bit version any time you connect your iPhone 5. I understand that you have already uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes, but sometimes you may need to uninstall additional components related to iTunes to completely remove it from your system.
I recommend following the steps in this article to completely uninstall iTunes:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7

Once you have completely uninstalled iTunes, you can download the 65 bit version of iTunes for Windows here:

Is there a way to install the AE software if my harddrive is broken?

I have a laptop and a desktop and would like them to both work on the wireless network, but the harddrive on my desktop is broken... is there any way to obtain a digital copy of the software?

I ment just the disc drive, not the whole hard drive. So I can't insert the installation disk. But the computer works just fine.

it sounds logical but reading through the forums it is clear that fixing is important.
Sadly for many people it is already broken and then they arrive here needing help. My apologies if that sounded negative. Afterall this is a place to obtain help.
Many Macs run for months on end without any sign of a problem. No sudden quits, no freezing or any other form of erratic behaviour.
However if one should take the time to allow utilties to check the health of our system and files we are often surprised to see that there are often many minor problems that could and should be fixed.
I make this point to emphasise that when doing a system upgrade we must run utlities first. What may be a minor problem for 10.2 may give serious concern when an upgrade is done to 10.3 or 10.4.
Macs in my opinion are extremely tolerant and can operate successfully even when there are hundreds of loose items emtpy folders orphaned aliases and corrupt files etc. With the present day luxury of high speed internet access and automatic updates Macs exhibiting erratic behaviour seems to be on the increase.
This would imply that Mac users need to check their system beforehand and then upgrade. Users of experience need to remember this ( I also forget ) and new users need to understand the importance of possibly fixing what does not appear to be broken.
With this said I wish all in the new year a happy Mac and a thankyou to all that use these forums, as I myself have received help and clear directions in the past.

When I received my new PowerBook just over two months ago there were updates available and although my PB was new and just opened out of the box, before installing the available updates I ran Disk First Aid repair via Disk Utility when booted from the Tiger install disc that shipped with the Mac and lo and behold there was a minor directory problem discovered. Had I not done so, I may or may not experienced any problems but I'm in the habit of running DFA repair immediately before installing a major OS Update and I haven't experienced any problems after installing available updates when made available with Jaguar, Panther and so far with Tiger.

Removing old and installing new VAP is definitely not risky. I have done this many times without any problems.
The latest version is much better and the flash cards are shown much faster than with old version. I can really recommend you to remove preinstalled version and install the latest one.

Fingerprint software System update --

Hi. I've got the thinkvantage fingerprint software 5.8.2.4462 installed on my R61. It works fine. But System Update keeps telling me that there is no fingerprint software installed, and directs me to install a 5.6 version.
Anyone have any ideas how to fix this?

Well, I have no idea on how to fix this, but I'm having exactly the same problem on my T61.
It seems that there is a bug in System Update that doesn't recognizes correctly the Fingerprint Software.

Fingerprint software / Windows XP login issue

Dear friends,
I cannot login any longer on my Z61p since I upgrade the fingerprint reader software to the last version.
I had a look at the 47 psts linked to fingerprint keyword but I have found nothing related to the problem below.
After restart, the fingerprint software starts automatically and request to "enroll" the user. I did "enroll" my current user meaning scanning fingerprints and associating the fingerprints with the Windows password.
Every time I start the computer, the enrollment software always starts automatically.
I cannot enroll again with same user (passport name <current user> cannot be used with same passport)
I cannot change the user (fields with user name and domain are greyer)
I did tried to use another local user. The software enrolls it and, now, I have the same issue with this user.
Every time, I cancel the fingerprint software, the computer ends the session.
I tried to use Ctr/Alt/Del to open another process but without success (nothing happens)
It is difficult to give more details on the system installed as I have no access to it.
Basically, Windows XP is up-to-date (I did upgrade everything last Friday) and all programs linked to ThinkVantage are also upgraded (my current issue is a consequence of the upgrades)
Access Connections is up and running (apparently, the laptop is able to log to my network)
I have tried to reset the fingerprint software in the BIOS but it has changed nothing in Windows.
At BIOS, I have security to Normal (meaning no supervisor or hard disk passwords)
BIOS settings for Fingerprint
Predesktop authentication: disabled
Reader priority: Internal
Security mode: Normal
Erase fingerprint data: I did tried but it has no effect on Windows fingerprint data (I could still login at Windows with my finger print)

I have EXACTLY same problem on T61.
The solution I found is following:
1. Start Windows in Safe Mode (using F8). Not with Network or Command Prompt - those will require figerprint scan...
2. Run C:\Program Files\ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software\ctlcntr.exe
3. Settings -> System Settings -> Logon - Select "Standard Windows logon"
I hope you have your laptop back after re-starting :-)

Linksys WRT54GS2 router won't install software, wired connection is partially broken

Whenever I try to install my included router software, I always get an "Error 302", which reads:
1. Exit the Program.
2. Eject the Linksys EasyLink Advisor Setup Wizard CD.
3. Restart your computer.
4. Reinsert the Linksys EasyLink Advisor Setup Wizard CD.
The fact that I'm making this thread should tell you that this isn't working. I Googled around to look for potential fixes, and one person said that the software may not work with Windows 7 (which I'm using), and suggested going to http://192.168.1.1/ and configuring it from there. Problem is, I have no clue what the login information for this is, since I'm running on a university network.
To add to my misfortune, plugging my computer (desktop) into the router's ethernet port cuts my internet speed down to a little less than 10% of what it would normally run at, with the added bonus of disconnecting every 30 seconds or so.
Basically, I would like to get my router in working order, so that I may use a secured wireless connection on my PS3 whilst using a wired connection on my PC. I cannot do so for two basic reasons: The setup always results in Error 302, and the connection itself can hardly stay stable.
Some information, if it's any help:
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate
Model: WRT54GS2-RM
S/N: CUQ01J569884
My internet connection was in working order before adding the router into my setup.
I tried live chat support, which in retrospect was a pretty stupid idea since I disconnected almost immediately.

First throw the CD away, it is useless. Connect via wired computer to 192.168.1.1 with username blank, password 'admin'. Now configure your router manually like normal.

I can't de-activate my Adobe software because the computer is broken

My Mac Book Pro video card is dead but the HD is okay. I want to de-activate my CS3 Design Suite and active it on a new OS Mountain Lion Mac Book Pro so I can upgrade it to CS6. Mac Genius can copy over to new Mac for me but will it won't be deactivated, will I be able to do it on new Mac or should you deactivate it first for me, at your end?

Don't even try to copy over files. It's a waste of time. Simply reinstall using the original media. Call support to reset activations.

Problems Installing Software on a Mac that is both Win and Mac compatible

I am new to Mac. My kids have a bunch of games and some educational software on CD ROM. The software case's say the CDROM is compatible with both Windows and Mac. I have not had a problem installing them on my old PC but cant get either my iMac or Macbook to install the software.

Check the exact version requirements on the box. Make sure it says OS X. If it only supports OS 9, then it won't work on Intel Macs (e.g. your MacBook and 2006 iMacs).
Also, there are a few bizarrely-designed games that are OS X compatible, but the installer runs in OS 9. If that's the case, you'd need to install it on a PowerPC Mac, then copy the game folder onto your Intel Mac (using flash drive, CD, file sharing, etc)

Printer Software doesn't display when installing in Win 8

Hello
I have a very frustrating issue which means I can not install the printer software for my HP Plus B209a Printer.
When I try and run the installer for the full package installation it extracts the files as normal to a temp location.
Then the HP Installer (32bit) runs but in the background and does not display anything on screen. I just uses 15% CPU in task manager but no installation windows?
To give some background to this issue
(The first time I ran the installer software it did load but hanged on the detecting printer stage 1. So I restarted the laptop and tried to run again but this happened.)
I have updated windows to 8.1 and all updates are installed. I have tried disabling all startup programs etc.. to no avail.
Please could someone help with this issue as I can not scan with the printer until I can get this installed.
