Fingerprint reader (Digital Persona 4500)

Anybody have an example of Digital Persona 4500 implemented in LV?   SDK comes with DLLs and .h's  but I can't seem to make them work using library calls or import DLL.  Combination of mediocre C skills, confusion about datatype mapping in call library (matching LV data types to header prototpes), and poor SDK documentation.
If not 4500, anything implement a DigitalPersona product would be helpful / appreciated.

Hi Zwired1,
Since you have the header file for the DLL in question, you should be able to use the Import Library Wizard to automatically import and create LabVIEW wrappers for your DLL function calls (Tools>>Import >>Shared Library).  This should take care of most of the call library function node configuration automatically. I've seen a few cases where the import wizard can't parse all functions if they're not exported properly, use oddly-nested or complicated data types, or header macros, but most of the time it works like a charm.
If that's failing (which might be the case, your post's a little vague), what errors are you running into?
Regards,
Tom L.

  • My Digital personna addon is not working in Firefox 7.o....I use fingerprint login for each and every website....plz help.

    Hi,
I have finger print reader on my laptop. This reader use Digital personna software to authenticate. I use fingerprint authentication in most of the websites. But unfortunately when I upgraded to Firefox 7.o the extension got disabled. Please help me in fixing this issue.!!!

You can try using this tool to first remove all traces of Reader from your computer:
    http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html
Then, you can download the full offline Reader installer from
    http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
After downloading, restart your computer and run the installer before doing anything else.

  • My fingerprint reader is not recognized by DigitalPersona when I upgraded to Windows 7

My fingerprint reader worked with Vista but when I upgraded to Windows 7 it is not recognized by DigitalPersona.
I have a dv3-1075us with the AMD Turion X2 dual core mobile RM-72 2.10 Ghz processor.  I have updated the BIOS to F.15, there is not a biometrics option in the BIOS for me to turn on, Authentec Driver 20.0.18 dated 11-24-2009 (Device Manger does nto show an error), and running Digital Persona Personal version 4.11.3826.
I have updated this from the troubleshooting section of the HP Support website.
At the windows login I get a "Reader not detected" message and in DigitalPersona "The fingerprint reader is not connected.  Connect the reader."
What further steps can I do to get my fingerprint reader working?
    Thank you for your help.

I've got an HDX9350 that I originally ran on Vista, and later upgraded to 32-bit Windows 7 Ultimate. I managed to make most functionality run on that installation, albeit buggy and slow, running assorted drivers in compatibility mode.
Earlier this week I installed the 64-bit version od Windows 7 Ultimate, because the upgraded installation did run into problems sometimes, requiring a long time to get an ip address etc. I was surprised to see a lot of drivers being automatically installed, includingdrivers for the AuthenTec 2501A fingerprint sensor.
I stumbled upon AuthenTecs own basic software, allowing You to log onto the computer and that worked. Or was it Window' own? Never mind.
Installing Digital persona resulted in no reader detected all of the time, despite following instructions on this forum.
Installing HP's SimplePass, things worked straight away! Maybe Digital Persona isn't compatible with Windows 7, or with my HDX9350?

  • I have a fingerprint reader on my laptop (HP Pavilion dv6) and the newer version will not let me use it to open my previously saved/bookmarked sites, why?

I have a Digital Persona Fingerprint Reader on my laptop. This feature allows you to swipe your finger and open up saved sites and log-ins. It worked fine with the previous version of mozilla but when I try to use it now I get a message that says, 'Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (dpql) isn't associated with any program.'

The company that make the bioscanner for HP have abandoned it. For more details see https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/799388

  • Pavilion dv8t 1200 - simple pass/digital persona software won't install

    Howdy,
Windows 7 Home Premimum 64 bit
    Intel Core i7 Q720 @1.60GHz
    Pavilion dv8t - 1200 Notebook PC
The reader worked fine for the first few months/year, however it then only started working for signing in & occasionaly for sites & gTalk. I was cool with that...annoyed, but cool. Oh, it also didn't work to sign in if I had to sign in again after the screen saver came up or if the machine went into hybernate.
Today I decided to see if there was an update or if I could get it working for something other than signing in. After installing what was most likely the wrong package, I uninstalled it through the Program  Manager.
I then shut down the machine, ran CCleaner (there were digital persona errors removed...about 8) & went to install sp50048 which I believe is the correct one for my machine.
During the install it tells me the folder/files already exist, (even though I uninstalled it) & ithey do, then at the instal phase "Registering Modules" I receive the following error:
    Error 1722
    InstallDPPassFilter_x64.4D0EAAF1_2D33_4FFF_AA08_6...
And then in rolls it back.
I turned off the biometric devices in the control panel, ran CCleaner again, shut the machine down completely, tried installing again & had the same issue.
I turned the biometrics on in the control panel & recieve this message:
"Biometric devices are turned on, however I'm told “Windows did not find any biometric devices on this computer. You might need to attach your device or install device drivers.”
I have tried a few methods from 'solved' under both simple pass & digital persona
Thank you all for reading & attempting to help.

    Howdy,
Thank you for your advice, however it did not work out.
    Addressing each point in succession:
I can not get Digital Persona to install, therefore I can not interact with it hence none of the steps in the Setup and Use HP SimplePass Fingerprint Reader were available to moi.
Troubleshoot a Fingerprint Reader did not solve the issue, however I did go through the steps there so I shall describe my results in an effort to see if it helps home in on the problem.
All files used to update were pulled from the hp.com site using my Product Number.
Update the BIOS - BIOS was up to date
Enable Biometric Support (in BIOS) - Following the instructions it appears mine is always in the state: Enable
Check for Windows Support - Validity Sensor appears under Biometric Devices in the Device Manager
Update the Device Driver - (Had deleted the driver previously, so installed & updated) - Updated/Installed
Update the Access Manager - Attempted to install Digital Persona 5.1.0.175 A, but again during the install it gave me the same error (as my original post describes) & did not install.
As a final note, Windows does not see the reader in the Control Panel (large icons) Biometric devices even though it is turned on.
The reader worked fine before I tried to update it to a newer version & I still believe I installed an incorrect version of the Simple Pass software.

  • WILL "digital persona" finger print password manager work with Firefox?

My computer has a fingerprint reader that I use to store my passwords to log onto websites. It works with internet explore but have not been able to use it with Firefox. When trying to use the message states "The address wasn't understood". "Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (daq) isn't associated with any program."
My software was loaded on computer and is named "digital Persona"

I can see from your "More System Details" list (thank you!) that the DigitalPersona extension is disabled. Usually this indicates that the extension contains a list of compatible Firefox versions and your version is not included. This is not a new issue with this software, unfortunately.
In March 2011, another volunteer found this:
"Thank you for contacting DigitalPersona. There will be no update releases for DigitalPersona Personal in the future. There will be no updates for Firefox 4 nor Internet Explorer 9. IF they work they work, if they do not work with DPPersonal, then you will have to decide to either keep DPPersonal and forgo Firefox 4 or IE 9, or vice versa. DigitalPersona is leaving the consumer market and is focusing on business applications. In fact, DigitalPersona Personal will not longer be supported after Mid-April of this year. We apologize for any inconvenience this might cause. Sincerely, Tech Team "
Some volunteers have suggested testing a different extension: [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/fingerfox-se/ Fingerfox (SE)]. It claims to support DigitalPersona 2.0. An updated version is available from the developer's website: [http://amews.net/products/fingerfox/download/]. If you try it, could you report back on whether it works?

  • Tx2510us - Fingerprint Reader Not Detected after Service Pack 1 for Windows 7 installed

Have had Windows 7 32-Bit installed and running fine since early last year..   Today Windows Update installed Service Pack 1.
Now, the fingerprint reader (AuthenTec AES1610) is not detected.   Digital Persona reported the fingerprint reader isn't connected and the Device Manager shows installed and working properly..   When the computer boots, the logon screen shows not detected..
Have seen several older posts that reference a page with a fix for AuthenTec/Digital Persona, but get a 403 error when trying to access..
Hoping someone still has this info, or possibly there's a new fix to work with Service Pack 1..
    Thanks

Followed the given advice: installed SP1 again, ran Firefox in safemode, disabled other running programs as mutorrent, still Firefox didnt work. I had internetconnection (after restarting mutorrent this did work, the app telling me what the weather outside is worked) but no Firefox: as previous time I got the start screen, but could not browse the internet.
I also tried to start the Internet Explorer and it also looked as if that application had problems (but that can also be because I did not use it for a while - old version or whatever - and it is not my standard browser).
Have again performed a roll back in order to remove SP1, now Firefox works again.
If somebody has advice it would be very welcome!

  • Fingerprint Reader Not Connecting - Windows 8 - HP Pavilion DV7

Have searched high and low for solution to my fingerprint scanner issue - tried many site's instructions with no solution.
    Please help -
    I have a HP DV7-6c27cl   (Pavilion)---Purchased 11/2012.
Upgraded to Windows 8-64 bit day of purchase and fingerprint scanner quit working along with TrueVision HD webcam.  HP Driver update for webcam worked perfectly - Up and running there.
HP SimplePass software is loaded running version 5.20.233a (DigitalPersona).
Went to HP and downloaded new driver (SP58834) for fingerprint scanner.  Searched their updates using specific model number of this laptop and it gave me that driver to update with.  Software starts but no joy on the reader.....
Simple Pass still says "The fingerprint reader is not connected."  "Connect the reader."
Earlier today when trying a number of different fixes I had a biometrics tap under my device manager and another in control panel......on one of my attempts to find a solution I erased these.  No longer there now.
Not sure what to do from here.  There doesn't seem to be any solution on Digital Persona website either.
    Please help and thank you.

    Hi Doerr,
That Digital Personal software won't run on this computer... The old DP software only runs on older hardware.  Nice software but it doesn't run on new computers.
You need to run the "real deal" SimplePass software.
Here is SimplePass software that will run on Windows 7 or Windows 8:
    sp59664 HP SimplePass V6.0.100.257 Win7-8
You can use your Windows 7 Validity Sensor Driver:
    sp55109 Validity Sensor V4.3.205.0
Driver ALWAYS (re)installs FIRST, then a Reboot
Software installs Second, set up the basics, then a Reboot
Set up the rest of the software the way you like it, Export the webcards (password database)

  • Pavilion dv7 fingerprint reader not working

    Hi.
My HP Pavilion dv7 fingerprint reader isn't working. I have the SimplePass software that's powered by AuthenTec. When I open the SimplePass software, it doesn't seem like it knows I have a fingerprint reader.
I've tried installing new drivers but I can't seem to get anything to work.
    Any help is really appreciated.

    lyscarn,
Could be the order in which you are doing things, could be the HP SimplePass version would be happier on a different version, could be that you just need to kick the system (metaphorically speaking).
Assuming you are running Windows 7 or Windows 8 AND that you are not running Digital Persona
    then
    the following may help.
Find, open, and follow the instructions in the file named:  Simple Instructions to Upgrade HP SimplePass

  • Upgraded to IE9 and Digital Persona Personal doesnt work

Ive upgraded to ie9 and now my fingerprint reader doesnt pop up like it used to when i go to a website it knows.  Any ideas

Probably the Digital Persona extension could've been disabled. Try Tools (Alt+x) --> Manage Addons, under Toolbars and extensions, check whether the Digital Persona Plugin is enabled or disabled. If it is disabled, enabling it should make it work. Hope this helps.

  • Possible firmware problem leading to bricked fingerprint reader on T530

I tried to send this through support channels but they told me there was no way to reach any developers through phone support.  One guy said the developers do read the forums so I am posting this here.
Basically this is what happened: (twice!)
I had pre-boot fingerprint authentication and also swipe to power on enabled on my T530.
Everything worked great until I wanted to be sure I discharged the battery all the way by letting the machine power off from a low battery. The way I did this on previous laptops was to just run memtest86 or something until the battery ran out. but since I use the laptop in UEFI only mode memtest86 doesn't work. so I used the built in lenovo memory diagnostics.  after the laptop powered off. I turned it on again. and it quickly powered back off. Afterwards the fingerprint reader refused to work for anything other than power on and refused to be connected to by the Lenovo fingerprint software.
I originally thought this was because I had turned it back on and the system was talking to the fingerprint reader as part of start up and didn't complete since the power went right back off again..
that is until I managed to break my replacement fingerprint reader. This time I just ran the memory diagnostics as before until it turned itself off. (and didn't try to turn it back on right afterwards) This time it also bricked the fingerprint reader in such a way that caused it to keep connecting and disconnecting from the USB bus somehow.
My theory is that either the UEFI firmware or the embedded system controller is not finishing the conversation with the UPEK touchchip that puts it into the low power swipe to power on mode when the battery is critically low and is causing the device firmware to become confused (the fingerpritn reader is not just a dumb reader, instead it's basically a small embedded computer). It's very easy to re-produce this problem. and I wish I had a way to just submit a bug report to someone instead of posting to a forum.
I now have a working fingerprint reader and I've disabled swipe to power on, hoping that this wont come up again. (I'm also going to avoid doing the memory test until power off thing too obviously...) Still I think it would be a simple fix to make sure it doesn't attempt to talk to the fingerprint reader as part of shutdown if the battery is low.
I still have the other 2 fingerprint readers if anyone at Lenovo wants to take a look at the state this leaves them in (although it should be very easy to re-produce this in house)
aside from this I'm very happy with my Thinkpad and I plan on getting an extended warranty and to also make my next laptop a thinkpad as well (assuming they don't do someting stupid like get rid of the trackpoint/trackpoint mouse buttons or decide to start making the thinkpad small and flimsy)

Yes I tried that. I also even did research into the upek (now owned by authentec) chip and found a dagnostics utility that also pretty much confirmed that the chip was failing to communicate. (and gave the same information that the lenovo fingerprint reader gave me) The. First one I killed could be seen but was stuck in the swipe to power on mode and wanted to be authenticated to somehow (error is could not authenticate pasport) before it would do anything else. And both the firmware and the fingerprint software had no luck doing so.
The second one I killed behaved differently, It shows up on the usb bus for a few seconds and then dissconnects and then does it all over again forever. In both cases I believe the firmware inside the fingerprint reader is being confused in a a way that is persistent across power cycles. Replacing the reader restores normal operation again. i didnt bother with thee diagnostics tool the second time incase you think I killed them with that. This time around it had problems booting and had to lift up the keyboard and unplug the cable from the palmrest, reboot and disable the fingerprint reader port before plugging the cable back in to restore normal operation to my system. otherwise it would boot only part of the time. (you could also disable pre-boot fingerprint support and it would also boot fine but then you would see a steady log of it attaching and detacthing in both windows and linux, which ofcourse is annoying)
I have saved those two parts and will ship them to you if you want to look at them.
I seem to have a knack of running into strange corner cases like this since I always seem to use my computers/software just different enough from the averge person to run into things the developers didn't consider.
I have no idea if this thing can happen any other way than the system powering off inside the memory test utility. but I would bet it is possible in other cases and might as well be looked into.
I would bet when you try to re-produce it that it can only be re-produced with the swipe to power on feature enabled. am also pretty sure that what my guess is is likely correct, that when the system forces itself off with a low battery either the UEFI firmware, or some embedded controller talks to the chip to enable the swipe to power on feature and it's powering off before the fingerprint reader is ready when the battery is critically low, screwing up the state of the firmware on the fingerprint reader chip.  when I was doing searching around I was really hoping there was some vendor tool that could reset the chip, but no such luck at least nothing that's public. UPEK was bought out by authentec and a lot of their site no longer exists, authentec also seems to be bought out by digital persona and shut down much of the authentec site as well, and seem to be only licensing the IP of authentec to certain people.

  • Hp HDX18 1180US win 8 fingerprint reader wont work

It saids to plug in the fingerprint reader since I upgraded to Windows 8. It works real nice all but the biometric fingerprint reader ??????????? Help please

Are you using the Digital Persona software?
You can try running the Digital Persona software in compatibility mode.  I have been told compatibility mode works for this great old software.
Windows 8 - Run Software in “Compatibility Mode” by Cloud_Strider
You will have to reboot the system.  If it fails to work the first time, try a Forced Reset on the notebook to make sure the fingerprint Driver is completely reset:

    OR
Notebooks - Use Hard Reset to Resolve Hardware and Software Issues - Removable Battery
