I've tried installing many kind of different drivers and software, updated BIOS etc. Nothing works.
So i decided to call for your help.

Bought 1 year ago in The Netherlands

  • Fingerprint reader not working on elitebook 2540p

I have elitebook 2540p, and I can't get my fingerprint reader to work.
The driver is installed and looks good at device manager.
I installed HP ProtectTools 5.12.754 and I can not see in the credentials area the fingerprint, only the smart card.
I tried also with DigitalPersona software and it's the same.
I have download the last driver from HP website under the correct operating system (Windows 7 enterprise 64bit).
I think the fingerprint reader is working since I entered the Bios and there it worked when I swept my finger. I saw the image of my fingerprint on the screen.
What might be the problem? why HP protect tool can not recognize my fingerprint reader?
    Thanks in advance,
    Ariel

I have the same issue with the same laptop
I've noticed that whichever driver you try and install, the version always seems stuck at 2.1.0.2

  • Lenovo T510 (4313CTO) fingerprint reader not working at first login

I have a Lenovo T510 (4313CTO) system that until recently worked just perfectly. After I know not what - I have checked the Windows Update log, etc. - now, when booting, when the system reaches the Windows logon screen, the usual 'Please wait' message is displayed, but after maybe 30s of that, it reads 'No attempt to start this service has been made since the last boot'.
This error only occurs on a fresh boot. When logging out and in again, it works correctly. I use the SSO function, so one finger swipe unlocks the hard drive and should log into Windows. The first BIOS swipe works fine, i.e. it cannot be a hard ware problem.
After a little research, I reckon this 'service' that is not starting is upeksvr.exe, given pg. 66 of this Lenovo CSS document. The particular error message I believe is a Windows system error, no. 1077 given this MSDN article.
After removing all of the Lenovo Fingerprint software and all fingerprint data, upgrading FPRS, downgrading, and having trawled the net for solutions to no avail, I have not had any success. A call to Lenovo yielded no help either (no surprise there...) I would really appreciate any help you can offer, to save me from having to reinstall the system!

I had a similar problem, the first time I occurred after a Windows Update.  This time I formatted and made a fresh Windows 7 installation.
The next time the same happened again after I updated the system using the "Lenovo ThinkVantage System Update".
When I tried to open the Fingerprint software directly the following message appeared “The dependency service or group failed to start" and the Error Code E7210001 appeared in details.
This time I discovered in another forum while searching for another problem ( "Devices and Printers" did not load) that the problem was due to one of the services was disabled, the Credential Manager service.
To correct this just type in Start the following: services.exe
Look for the service: Credential Manager
In properties the Startup type should be set to "Automatic"
Press Ok and the next time you restart the computer the Fingerprint reader should work.
    Hope this solves your problem.

  • Pavilion dv7 fingerprint reader not working

    Hi.
My HP Pavilion dv7 fingerprint reader isn't working. I have the SimplePass software that's powered by AuthenTec. When I open the SimplePass software, it doesn't seem like it knows I have a fingerprint reader.
I've tried installing new drivers but I can't seem to get anything to work.
    Any help is really appreciated.

    lyscarn,
Could be the order in which you are doing things, could be the HP SimplePass version would be happier on a different version, could be that you just need to kick the system (metaphorically speaking).
Assuming you are running Windows 7 or Windows 8 AND that you are not running Digital Persona
    then
    the following may help.
Find, open, and follow the instructions in the file named:  Simple Instructions to Upgrade HP SimplePass

  • Fingerprint Reader not working upon waking from sleep for windows login

    Hello,
I have a brand new T540P with a Validity fingerprint reader.
Rougly 80% of the time, the Fingerprint reader is unresponsive at the windows login screen after waking the computer from sleep. It works 100% of the time when booting from an off position, however. Once logged in, it also works 100% of the time. The issue only arises when logging into windows.
    Things I have tried
-uninstalling/installing device in device manager and finger print manager pro software
-setting fingerprints through both fingerprint manager pro software (lenovo) OR through the built in windows fingerprint control panel options
-disabling "allow windows to turn off this device to save power" in device manager.
I should note as well that I have another T540P that I ordered as a replacement. Both models experience the same issue.
Is this a platform wide issue affecting all T540P models? This is frusterating.

Your report is the first we have ever heard of this issue on T/W.  It does not happen on my T/W systems here (with or without 30 Day Standby enabled).  The other reports I heard of this problem came from X240.
I just want to confirm with you - the problem happens after coming out of Sleep (and not Hibernate), right?
Can you tell me exactly what you are doing?  e.g.
    1.  Use the computer normally (is AC attached or not?)
    2.  Close the lid - the computer goes to sleep  (or do you go to sleep some other way?)
    3.  Open the lid 2 hours later (or how long)?
    4.  are you using a dock?
The more info you can provide, the better.  Thanks for your help.
Also please let me know what BIOS version you have.

  • Re: Fingerprint Reader Not Working On Windows 8.1 Pro Startup

    Model: ThinkPad Edge E420
OS:       Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bit
Problem: Fingerprint reader suddenly stopped working (Image 1). One major change I think which might have lead to this - I had a recent update from Microsoft on 28/Aug/2014 (Image 2). I'm not sure though that this must be the cause of the problem.
Troubleshooting tried: I tried first to repair through "programs and features" but did not work. Then I tried to uninstall and reinstall the FingerPrint reader software (Latest version available on Lenovo Website for my model). Still did not work. I'm pasting photographs of the error. I've tried to follow all the methods shown on various threads on this forum but nothing worked so far....Even the TouchChip (Fingerprint) patch driver for Windows 7 (64-bit)  which is compatible with Windows 8.1 doens't install. (image 3). Device manager shows error for Biometric devices. (image 4).
    Please help.
    Image - 1

For Windows 8.1 you should not be installing any fingerprint software.  You should uninstall ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software.  The driver you need (for TouchStrip Fingerprint Sensor) will come from Windows Update.  Then you can enroll fingerprints from the PC Settings -> Accounts -> Sign-in Options screen.
If there is a problem with the device in Device Manager, try removing it and check the option to delete the driver software.  Then reboot, run Windows Update, and a compatible version for your system should be installed.

Could you please help me with my fingerprint reader.

    Hi:
See if installing the W8 Validity driver and simple pass software from a different model PC work for you.

  • Fingerprint Reader not working after windows password reset

    Hi There
I was using windows login (single admin user) and fingerprint reader to login to my Thinkpad T510. Yesterday night I changed windows password and I didn't update finger print. Unfortunately I am not able to login when I tried to login using windows login today, I forgot the password and when I tried finger print reader it is just throwing error.
Why finger print is not working after windows password reset? What should I do to login?
    Help would be appreciated!!

I just called the tech support just now? I just asked the 'why the finger print reader not recognizing the finger print after changing windows password?', and he gave the following answers
    1. You should change fingerprint while changing windows password.  I don't understand the reason behind it, btw is this true?
    2. We can't do anything for this issue.

  • Fingerprint Reader Not Working On Windows 8.1 Pro Startup

My fingerprint reader doesn't seem to work on Windows login anymore (no light on the reader and it doesn't accept any fingerprint) in the past couple of days so have to login using a password. The fingerprint reader works fine in the BIOS and also when I go into the ThinkVantage Fingerprint Reader application i.e. it asks me for a fingerprint. Has this happend to anyone else and has this been caused by a specific MS patch in the last monthly patch cycle?
I have reinstalled both the ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software 64bit (v 8102) and the TouchChip Fingerprint Coprocessor driver (v 1.6.1.341).
I'm running a W530 and fully patched Windows 8.1 Pro
    Solved!

I downloaded the driver from Lenovo, uninstalled the Lenovo Fingerprint Software, restarted, installed the driver package which actually reinstalled the Fingerprint Software and it worked straight away without re registering my fingerprints. The strange thing is that it stopped working out of a sudden. I couldn't figure out, what caused that....btw the same happened to my bluetooth settings the other day. booting into BIOS, exiting without changing, restart and bluetooth was there again....hmmmm

  • T61 with Windows 7: Fingerprint reader not working

I downloaded and installed the fingerprint reader software for my T61 (7659-D22) with Windows 7. At the login screen I see the "Scan your finger" option, but none of my fingerprints is recognized, so I log on with my password.
In Windows I get the Fingerprint popup inviting me to enroll fingerprints. Three are shown as enrolled already (carry over form WinXP, no doubt), all of which I had tried unsuccessfully at the login screen. I tried enrolling additional fingerprints, but the scans do not register at all.
How do I solve this problem?

  • Microphone not working on pavilion dv7 Notebook QG728EA#ABU Windows 7 Pro

Well I am sorry to see no one has yet to reply to my post on my defective laptop. But if anyone at HP support would reply it would be helpful!!!
Also to add now to the microphone fault above and I now experiencing problems with the in-built video camera not working it is the same issues as above as in you have to move the laptop screen backwards & forwards to get to work..i.e. there is fault with the hardware connections matrix for the device.
Can someone please answer my questions!!

This definitely sounds like a hardware issue with the webcam/mic in the notebook. I would recommend calling HP phone support at 1-800-474-6836 to have it repaired or replaced.

  • Fingerprint Reader Not Working

So I had Avast! on my computer. It was annoying and scanned every file for like 30 seconds with DeepScan. So I uninstalled it. When it uninstalled, it removed my fingerprint reader driver. My computer got really slow and a lot of my apps don't work. I wanna punch the Avast people. It is not a virus because I did not download anything after I uninstalled. I am not that dumb. I tried to reinstall according to people on the forum but it didn't work. Under device manager, I get: http://prntscr.com/3qpb8y
    It says "unknown device."
Then, when I go to Control Panel, I get this: http://prntscr.com/3qpbrc
On the login screen, it gives me the option for fingerprint read login, but the light on the fingerprint reader doesn't light up and it won't log in. I even did a system restore to before the uninstall and it still doesn't work. -_- Then, I did HP Recovery Manager and reinstall Validity Sensor and SimplePass. That didn't help either. When I tried to reinstall SimplePass I got an error message. I saved the log. Here is what the log said behalf of the error:

  • Validity Sensors Fingerprint Reader Not Working

    Hello,
I am running a Pavilion dv7-6c43cl, and I recently reinstalled Windows 8.1. The fingerprint reader is not working - I tried to configure it through PC Settings and the error was "An error occured processing your fingerprint". I installed drivers from people facing the same issue, as well as the drivers on HP's support page, and it didn't work. I tried uninstalling the driver, and rebooting to see if Windows would fix it - it didn't. I have no idea what to do, please help!
    Thanks!

You cannot run ProtectTools on this computer; ProtectTools Security can only be run on a business class system - the dv7 is a consumer notebook.  Your dv7 is a nice notebook; it is a different kind of animal from a business class system.

    Next:
If you managed to install any piece of the ProtectTools program onto the computer, remove it, that is UNINSTALL the program.
After the you uninstall the program from Programs and Features, Shut down the computer to a dead stop (off), boot the computer and log in.
    ====================================================
    Preparation:
You can continue to use the Validity Sensor Driver you have installed now.  Should you need to reinstall the Driver and you lose track of it on your computer, you can retrieve a copy from your computer's Support Pages for Windows 8.
