Fingerprint Reader on my Pavilion dv6-4023tx Notebook

Hello everyone,
Just got myself the mentioned notebook in Australia, though I'm from Singapore.
Will like to ask if anyone encountered the same problem as I did, and the solution (if any)???
I wanted to enroll my fingerprints to be part of the security function for the notebook. However, when i tried to enroll, the system will ask me for a "Windows password". Do note that I had tried both ways: not having any password to log in when i power on my notebook, as well as having to type in a password everytime i power on the notebook. However in both cases, whether i key in the password or not, the system will reject and says "cannot verify password. please ensure correct password. etc"
Please help anyone???
Thanks!!!

  • Upgrading the CPU in my HP Pavilion dv6-6b08sa Notebook PC

    Hey there,
I am looking to upgrade my seemingly weak CPU so that my laptops performance may be noticeably improved, for things such as gaming. I have an HP Pavilion dv6-6b08sa Notebook PC, running a Windows 7 64-bit Operating System.
    This is my current CPU:
    Quad-Core AMD A6-3410MX APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics, 1600 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s)
If you require any more information about my laptop in order to help me, please ask and I will be happy to provide.
Please note that I do not want to have to upgrade any other components of my laptop, such as the motherboard, in case the CPU requires stronger/more powerful support, as money is a limitation. The cheaper the better, as long as the performance will be improved noticeably. Thank you.

    Hello TooQuix,
I understand you want to upgrade your CPU is the correct? I will try and provide you the information that you need.
This document will provide you a list of processors available for this unit. Now because you have AMD installed originally, and you're using the same motherboard you will have to continue to use AMD.
If you turn to page 85 there is a list of processors, the part numbers are there as well to help your search. Also, if you plan on doing the work on your own the instructions on how to replace the processor is shown there as well.
    I hope this helps.

  • HP Pavilion dv6-6c53cl Notebook - Internal Hard Drive Options

    Greetings,
I just purchased an HP Pavilion dv6-6c53cl Entertainment Notebook PC (at Costco), and so far it's been a great deal. Everything seems to be working just fine.
Because I do a lot of development work in Virtual Images, I have been running a number of external Hard Drivers from the notebook over the couple of weeks since I've owned it (including an external SSD). All that seems to work fine.
But, I was wondering if anyone knows whether it is possible to install a second Hard Drive or SSD in this Notebook Model. I saw on the HP site that some Notebooks allow the installation of a second Hard Drive, but I couldn't find any information on this model that would suggest it can handle such a configuration.
My primary objective for doing this would be to retain the original 1TB Hard Drive that came with the Notebook, but have a secondary SSD Drive to perhaps run the Paging activity from, when such functionality is needed upon running some of my larger Virtual Images.
Any assistance with clarifying if this is an option with the HP Pavilion dv6-6c53cl would be very much appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Wayne

My HP Pavilion dv6-3145dx Entertainment Notebook PC's keyboard is not working properly. After my laptop has been running for a couple of hours, the keyboard starts typing all kinds of letters, numbers and printing prompts on its own. • HP Pavilion dv6-6b50sa notebook - Fan problems

    Product:     HP Pavilion DV6-6b50sa
    Operating system:    Windows 7 64bit
    BIOS version:   F.19   05-2012
The fan on my laptop failed earlier during the year and was replaced with a new unit. However since then the fan seems not to run fast enough in response to increased loads on the cpu and GPU. For instance previously when starting a video game the fan would instantly kick up to a higher speed and remain there, cooling the laptop sufficiently. Now the fan will often take a lot longer to get up to speed, and with some games simply refuses to go beyond normal idling speeds even as the temperature increases.
Any help with this?  I'm not sure if its a hardware or software issue. When I am back home again I will be replacing the fan with another new one to see. Tried updating the BIOS, have also installed HP coolsense and cleaned out the fan to no avail.
Any help with this would be much appreciated, thanks

  • Drivers assistance required for graphics card and fingerprint reader with W8 & Pavilion DV7-6B01ED

Hi - I own a HP Pavilion DV7-6B01ED and recently upgraded from W7 Home Premium to W8 Pro. Everything appeared to work fine except for the graphics card I have which now seems to always be on with the fan running, getting hot and running down the battery much more than before. I can not confirm what was reported as the graphics card in W7, but it is reported as the AMD 7000M after the upgrade. My invoice reports that it is a HD6490. Further to this, W8 reported an issue with this device in Device Manager.
Due to another issue (not hardware related) I decided to do a clean install of W8 which would also let me clean things up and to re-partition my disk.
In doing so I deleted the HP_TOOLS and the Recovery partitions. I'm not against recreating these but needed to delete them as I had 4 primary partitions and could not work within the restriction that comes with this. I understood from reading online that these can be recreated and the necessary tools re-installed (or another solution with DVD / USB employed). If the solution to my problems requires these to be installed, I'm happy to do so.
After the clean install, I continue to have the graphics card issue (same details as above) and the other issue I have is with the fingerprint reader. It shows up as an unknown device after W8 install (it did not have any issues after the initial upgrade I performed though).
So I've done plenty of things to try to rectify the issue and this includes installing the HP Support Assistant in the hope that this would help with the drivers. Instead of going through all the steps I've undertaken (I've read plenty in this HP forum and outside of the forum) and used certain W7 drivers, installed this that or the other program but unfortunately to no avail. I cannot get the fingerprint reader working and I still have a very hot and noisy laptop.
I'm good enough with OS and device driver installations and happy to get stuck into some unorthodox solutions if needs be. What can I do to resolve these issues?
Regarding the graphics card - is it a case that AMD have yet to release an updated driver? If so, I can live with that but in the meantime I would like to turn off the AMD card and work only with the integrated Intel graphics. Disabling the device in Device Manager does not seem to work. How do I do that?
The fingerprint reader is no big deal, but ideally I would like it working. What to do here?
If I need to do a re-install of W8 again and then get stuck into the driver installations I'm good with that, but would like to do it in a manner that will let me resolve these issues in the future without too much hassle.
    The spec of my machine is: HP DV7-6B01ED 17.3FHD / i5-2430 / 8GB / 750GB HDD / HD6490
    Thanks!

    Hello AttackofZaq....
Thanks firstly for your reply. I re-installed W8 to start from scratch.
OK, so I thought the AMD driver worked. I had installed it before I posted to the forum but then the problem seemed to have returned. I'll have to play with the settings because just as I type this the fan has started for no reason, same problem as before. Is there any chance Windows Updates in interfering?
Regarding the fingerprint reader - it hasn't helped. In Device Manager I now see Biometric Devices > Validity Sensors (WBF) (PID=0018). Is there some further software I require in order to use the device. I'm going to install SimplePass to see if that's needed.
I'll be back with an update.

  • HP Pavilion dv6-2190us Notebook PC Battery Won't Charge & Will Now Only Run on AC Power

    OS: Win7 (64-bit)
    Serial #: [Personal Information Removed]
First off, I will say that the main battery I am using is not an HP OEM battery, however, it has been verfied to work and charge correctly in another family member's dv6 notebook.  Furthermore, I have access to an HP OEM battery, from a family member's dv6, with which I have confirmed the same issue.  FYI: I replaced my OEM battery about a year ago with an aftermarket battery when my OEM battery stopped holding a charge.  This happened after before my laptop was 2 years old.
So, here's a description of the problem.  About a month ago, even though my laptop was plugged in to the AC adapter, the battery stopped charging.  The laptop continued to work until the battery completely ran out of charge.  Once that happened, the laptop shut down, DESPITE still being connected to the AC adapter.  At this point, as long as the battery was installed in my laptop, with the AC adapter still connected, it would not power up.  The only way I could get it to power up was to remove the battery.  Then, it would boot up just fine, but of course, I was now tethered via the AC cord, turning my laptop into a "thin and light desktop".  If I attempted to put the battery back while the computer was on, connected to the AC adapter, it would shut down IMMEDIATELY.  I took the battery and plugged it into my family member's dv6, at which point it charged just fine and worked normally.  I then took the charged battery and put it back into my laptop only to have the same sequence of events repeat, i.e. laptop ran off of the battery despite the AC adapter being plugged in until it ran out of charge...had to remove battery to get laptop to start back up.  I have also confirmed the exact same behavior with the HP OEM battery out of my family member's dv6.  So, in a nutshell, it would appear as though my laptop has lost the ability to charge batteries and cannot resolve the fact that the AC adapter is plugged in when a dead battery is installed.
It should be noted that despite the normal operation of my family member's dv6 with my battery and the normal operation of my laptop with just the AC adapter plugged in, I did verify (via a multimeter) that the voltage of the batteries were within normal operating range and that the voltage and current flow of the AC adapter was within normal operating range.
Is there a separate charging circuit inside the dv6 for charging the battery?  Is it separate from the motherboard and possible to replace?  I've done quite a bit of research on this issue (or very similar issues) and despite some suggestions RE: BIOS issues, I just can't see how that could be the culprit.  Nor can I see how "re-calibrating" my battery would address this problem.  Note: battery does register at 100% when charged in the other dv6 and put back into my dv6.
Ok, I hope that clearly explains the issue.  Please let me know if I can provide any further details to help troubleshoot it.
    Thanks,
    Eric

Okay, so the type of battery you have is designed to last approximately 1 year (see link below) it has lots of links to other useful docs too.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00596784&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=4121239&tmp...
HP & other companies do sell Long life batteries but they cost more.
We would ask you to put the unit in our unit and run Battery check which is inside HP Support Assistant, make sure you have the latest version, same for your BIOS Version.
You will see there are bunch of tips on how to make your battery last longer, but you really need to start doing them from the start, if your battery is already 1 year old there is a good chance it is low enough on it's capacity to require you buying a new one.
You should check out our site, they often have sales, and Batteries would be under accessories.
Check out other sites too, compare.
    Good luck.
