Fingerprint Reader question

How do you tell Think Vantage to sync up with any windows password changes?  I thought there was a setting to tell TV to use automatically use new Windows password with Fingerprint Reader without having to Re-Enroll the password in the Fingerprint Reader.
Thanks and I look forward to your reply.

  • X121e Fingerprint reader question.

Hello, I'm new to this community. I have recently bought an X121e directly from Lenovo. The laptop is ace! I cannot however work out how to link the fingerprint reader with anything other than windows log in. I have a HP pavillion laptop too and this also has a fngerprint reader. With the HP I can use the fingerprint reader to access anything that needs a username and password including websites (hotmail, ebay etc) and programs. Is there a way of doing this with the X121e? I would love to be able to access my email by going to hotmail.com thn scanning my fingerprint in. Any help much appreciated. Cheers

  • Ubuntu 13.10 on a T440 - Wifi, Sound, Fingerprint reader and TrackPoint issues

I recently got my t440 and put Ubuntu 13.10 on it and have had a few problems pop up. Hopefully someone here can help, or I will find solutions and post here as things get working again.
Wifi - I have a Thinkpad  11b/g/n 2x2 wireless card. I do not believe there are currently Linux drivers provided for this card. According to thinkwiki, the 1x2 version of the card works with real tek's rtl8192se driver; I have tried to load it with modprobe, but it does not work for this card. There might be a solution to this with ndiswrapper, but I haven't been successful. I have ordered an intel wireless card to replace this one.

Sound - The sound works when ubuntu boots, but usually crashes shortly thereafter. There are some known sound issues with 13.04 and 13.10, but I haven't been successful stopped the problem with their suggestion.

Fingerprint reader - All previous thinkpads had AuthenTec fingerprint readers; this generation ships with Validity readers. Info on thinkwiki is describes installing fprint, but fprint does not recognize the validity reader. This post looks promising.

TrackPoint - The trackpoint pointer works fine, but lenovo did away with the physical left/middle/right click buttons. The top on the touchpad can be pressed (in windows) for left/middle/right click, but I haven't gotten this functionality enabled in Ubuntu yet. Might be able to fix this in the xorg.conf file

Fingerprint reader- above links do not resolve the problem. fprintd and frprint-demo do not recognize the Validity fingerprint sensor. My issues are the same as described in this post.

  • X1 Carbon Touch Fingerprint reader 'cannot find fingerprint sensor device' e7210005

    Hi all,
I've spent far too long trying to solve this by myself, and need to reach out to someone who might have resolved this issue. I've read tons of similar questions online, and rebooted dozens of times after trying many different things.
I have a Carbon Touch 3444-CUU that can't see it's fingerprint reader. It used to work when brand new, but after lots of lenovo and windows updates, it now does not:
I am on Windows 8.1, with all updates.
    No problems in device manager.
Touchchip Fingerprint Coprocessor (WBF advanced mode) installed under Biometric devices fine.
Power management set to _not_ turn off device to save power.
    The bios is 2.61.
I suspect the problem is very low-level, because even the BIOS cannot find device when trying to set it up.
If I have the lates BIOS, but it can't see the device - what can I do?
    Thanks everyone..
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

BleachedWhale......which settings you have changed in the BIOS......
It is possible to work-around the issue, but some manual steps are needed:
    1. delete "smihlp.sys" from "c:\program files\thinkvantage fingerprint software"
    2. run "services.msc" and stop the service "Windows Biometric Service"
    3. delete the file "031D23AD-15AF-4e25-B7B3-DE34893097ED.DAT" from "c:\Windows\system32\WinBioDatabase"
    4. reboot the computer (important!!)
    5. now try to enroll some fingers
This should make it possible to enroll fingerprint and use it to log into Windows, until the bug can be fixed in some future version of BIOS and/or Fingerprint software.
    Best regards from Germany....

  • What can be done with the fingerprint reader?

I am trying to figure out simply what I can do with the fingerprint reader on the T400. I understand how to use it to log into the computer. My main question is whether or not I can use the fingerprint reader in the following contexts, and if so how.
1a) To  log into internet password protected websites. When I use IE, the password manager pops up and prompts me to save a password. If I save it, I can return to that website and it automatically will enter the login information and password for me. I want to know whether you can have password manager (or another program) prompt the user for the fingerprint and then submit the login information. That way the information is protected each time I log in, but I do not need to enter log in information each time, only a fingerprint.
1b) If this is possible in IE8, I would like to know if it is possible in Firefox 3, in which password manager does not pop up.
    2) Can it be used to log into MS Outlook.
    3) Can it be used to lock documents in MS Word.
I much appreciate any information letting me know if these can be done, and if so, how to do them. Thank you very much for your help!

After playing with it for a while I figured out at least questions 1a) and 1b). For anyone else who has the same questions:
1a) Have your browser save the password using Lenovo's Password Manager. Then open password manager and open that item.  Click the advanced tab and change the security level to custom. Click "Customize Security Policy" and select "Protect with a Fingerprint."
1b) Lenovo has a patch to synch Password Manager with firefox 3. It can be found here and is much easier than the manual fixes found on this forum.
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-70132
I am still looking for help with 3) and 4), particurally 3). Please let me know if you have any ideas. Thank you very much!!

  • I have a fingerprint reader on my laptop (HP Pavilion dv6) and the newer version will not let me use it to open my previously saved/bookmarked sites, why?

I have a Digital Persona Fingerprint Reader on my laptop. This feature allows you to swipe your finger and open up saved sites and log-ins. It worked fine with the previous version of mozilla but when I try to use it now I get a message that says, 'Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (dpql) isn't associated with any program.'

The company that make the bioscanner for HP have abandoned it. For more details see https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/799388

  • The fingerprint reader on my HP Pailion dv7 will not work in Firefox 4, but worked fine in earlier versions.

The fingerprint reader uses DigitalPersona 5.0.0.4490 extension. Firefox 4.0 says this is loaded and active. However, fingerprints cannot be used to log in from Firefox 4.0.
I reloaded Firefox 3.6.16 and everything automatically began working properly.

I see you started another question thread - https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/888892 - so I guess your problem isn't resolved.
If it is trying to print to an XPS file, your printer isn't selected as the destination for print. You need to select you printer in the Printer - Name box. See the screenshot.

  • X121e: Driver for the fingerprint reader

    Hello,
I purchased a X121e notebook at Lenovo directly; it's of type 3045-CTO and has a fingerprint reader.
I installed Windws 7 x64 from scratch and loaded all drivers, but I can't find the driver for the fingerprint reader on the driver download website.
Please, could someone help me to find this driver / software?
    Many thanks.

    Hi saxa,
Download and run System Update and it should find your driver.  Read the directions. You'll need MS Net.Framework to make it work.
See if there is anything in the bios under the security settings for turning on the fingerprint reader.  Make sure it's on if there is.

  • Making API for a fingerprint reader

Hi i having a fingerprint reader and i want to make and API for this? I am using Microsoft fingerprint reader. But i have no knoweldge about making the API.
Can you please tell me how to make an normal API for a device and for the fingerpring reader?

    Hi G.,
It comes with it's own software: Authentec Truesuite. Since Apple killed the company when they took over the technology, you have to find alternative sources to download the software, authentec.com doesn't exist anymore. The hardware itself is still for sale on amazon I think.
The fingerprint scanner works perfectly when you stay on Mac OS X Mountain Lion. When you upgrade it is even advised to remove the Authentec Truesuite software first, since this could lock you out of the system after the upgrade.
    In answer to your questions:
    1. Yes, you can login the Mac with the fingerprint scanner, that is my main purpose; it makes it easier for my wife to use it and I can still configure a good password.
    2. Yes, you can use the fingerprint scanner when installing software; you don't have to enter a password anymore. This is my second reason to use it.
    3. This should work, but I never tried it; I use lastpass for this in combination with a Yubikey.
    4. No, it uses Apple's keychain.
    5. Yes, it uses Apple's keychain.
As I understand it, a checksum of your fingerprint is stored in the fingerprint scanner hardware, not the whole fingerprint.

    Remco

  • Use fingerprint reader in application software

    Hi
I'm an application developer.  I need to use the Lenovo integrated fingerprint reader as part of a timeclock application I am building.  Basically a worker will authenticate and 'punch in' using a fingerprint scan
Where can I find doc about using the Lenovo fingerprint reader driver in my application?

  • T420 win7 64 - fingerprint reader error, "The dependency service or group failed to start"

    Hi,
On my T420 with Win7 64 bit, when I try to enroll a fingerprint I receive the error message "The dependency service or group failed to start".

Anyone have any idea how to get rid of this error message and be able again to use my fingerprint reader? What services should I check in order to have fingerprint working?
    Thank you,

  • Recovering Windows password from fingerprint reader

    Hello,
I have used fingerprint reader for a long time and forgotten my windows password. However, I need it now.
I'm running Windows 8 on Lenovo E530 with Fingerprint reader 6.0.200.75.
Is it possible to reveal your windows password in the same way than website passwords? And if it is, how?
Googling didn't produce results and the previous topic here referred to fingerprint reader 5.9.x with different settings page, where it was possible.
    Thank you for assistance.

  • Fingerprint Reader Not Connecting - Windows 8 - HP Pavilion DV7

Have searched high and low for solution to my fingerprint scanner issue - tried many site's instructions with no solution.
    Please help -
    I have a HP DV7-6c27cl   (Pavilion)---Purchased 11/2012.
Upgraded to Windows 8-64 bit day of purchase and fingerprint scanner quit working along with TrueVision HD webcam.  HP Driver update for webcam worked perfectly - Up and running there.
HP SimplePass software is loaded running version 5.20.233a (DigitalPersona).
Went to HP and downloaded new driver (SP58834) for fingerprint scanner.  Searched their updates using specific model number of this laptop and it gave me that driver to update with.  Software starts but no joy on the reader.....
Simple Pass still says "The fingerprint reader is not connected."  "Connect the reader."
Earlier today when trying a number of different fixes I had a biometrics tap under my device manager and another in control panel......on one of my attempts to find a solution I erased these.  No longer there now.
Not sure what to do from here.  There doesn't seem to be any solution on Digital Persona website either.
    Please help and thank you.
    This question was solved.

    Hi Doerr,
That Digital Personal software won't run on this computer... The old DP software only runs on older hardware.  Nice software but it doesn't run on new computers.
You need to run the "real deal" SimplePass software.
Here is SimplePass software that will run on Windows 7 or Windows 8:
    sp59664 HP SimplePass V6.0.100.257 Win7-8
You can use your Windows 7 Validity Sensor Driver:
    sp55109 Validity Sensor V4.3.205.0
Driver ALWAYS (re)installs FIRST, then a Reboot
Software installs Second, set up the basics, then a Reboot
Set up the rest of the software the way you like it, Export the webcards (password database)

  • Ideapad U460 fingerprint reader stopped working

A few weeks ago the fingerprint scanner on my girlfriend's U460 stopped working. She was deep into a major project at the time so I wasn't able to really look into it until now. To the best of my knowledge no new software was installed around that time and the only updates would have come through Windows Update.
The software does not recognize that the fingerprint scanner is connected. I uninstalled the software, restarted, and installed the latest version (5.9.3.6245) for Windows 7 64-bit from the lenovo download page. The problem seems to be that either Windows isn't detecting the hardware or that it's been given a generic driver and I can't find it. There's nothing in the device manager that appears to be the fingerprint reader.
Normally with these symptoms I'd assume the hardware has gone bad, but looking for solutions there seem to be a lot of issues with Lenovo fingerprint readers. I just haven't seen anything about what I'm seeing specifically. Any ideas?

    hey louiedog,
is there anything in the device manager called "security devices" ?
if there is, could you check if there is anything listed in it ?
