Fingerprint Reader, Window 8 64 Bit and DV7-6c90us

I upgraded to Windows 8 64 right after it came out.  My fingerprint reader worked fine all this time.  Now it doesn't work at all.  I am thinking a recent Windows Update has something to do with it.
I've scoured the forums, tried workaounds, installed old drivers, installed older drivers with Win7 compatability and I CANNOT get the fingerprint reader to work.
Windows Device Manager shows the device with an exclamation mark indicating that the correct drivers are not installed.  So, it sees the device.  No matter how many new and old device drivers I download, I just cannot get the reader to work in Win 8.
I need some help please.
My model is HP Pavilion DV7-6c-90us
I believe this is an AuthenTec reader.  ANd I've been to their site too.
I really miss being able to login to my PC and websites using the fingerprint reader and I'd like that functionality back.
Please help me out here.

Hello cwhaley,
I see that you are having problems with the fingerprint reader on your HP computer. I have a couple of suggestions that may help with this issue.
Here is a link to troubleshooting steps for the fingerprint reader in Windows 8. Follow the steps in the link and let me know what happens.
Here is a link to the drivers for your system, if you need them.
I would uninstall the current drivers for the fingerprint reader and reinstall the drivers from the website. If that doesn't help then you can update the software with this link. It is to the SimplePass software update download.
If I have been helpful or if you’d like to say thanks you can click the white star under my name to give me Kudos.  I really appreciate it!
Let me know what happens.

Hello , Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the HP Forums, I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More. I read your post about the Windows 10 update, and wanted to assist you! To start, can you please provide me with the Product Number of your notebook?  Here is a link you can use that will help you find your Model and Product Number: How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number? In the meantime, I recommend using the Go back to an earlier build option, in your System Settings:

Once you are back to your original Operating System, check to see if you are experiencing the same issue. If not, then you may consider holding off on the Windows 10 update for a few weeks, until drivers can be updated. Please let me know if this information was helpful by clicking the thumbs up below.

  • Drivers assistance required for graphics card and fingerprint reader with W8 & Pavilion DV7-6B01ED

Hi - I own a HP Pavilion DV7-6B01ED and recently upgraded from W7 Home Premium to W8 Pro. Everything appeared to work fine except for the graphics card I have which now seems to always be on with the fan running, getting hot and running down the battery much more than before. I can not confirm what was reported as the graphics card in W7, but it is reported as the AMD 7000M after the upgrade. My invoice reports that it is a HD6490. Further to this, W8 reported an issue with this device in Device Manager.
Due to another issue (not hardware related) I decided to do a clean install of W8 which would also let me clean things up and to re-partition my disk.
In doing so I deleted the HP_TOOLS and the Recovery partitions. I'm not against recreating these but needed to delete them as I had 4 primary partitions and could not work within the restriction that comes with this. I understood from reading online that these can be recreated and the necessary tools re-installed (or another solution with DVD / USB employed). If the solution to my problems requires these to be installed, I'm happy to do so.
After the clean install, I continue to have the graphics card issue (same details as above) and the other issue I have is with the fingerprint reader. It shows up as an unknown device after W8 install (it did not have any issues after the initial upgrade I performed though).
So I've done plenty of things to try to rectify the issue and this includes installing the HP Support Assistant in the hope that this would help with the drivers. Instead of going through all the steps I've undertaken (I've read plenty in this HP forum and outside of the forum) and used certain W7 drivers, installed this that or the other program but unfortunately to no avail. I cannot get the fingerprint reader working and I still have a very hot and noisy laptop.
I'm good enough with OS and device driver installations and happy to get stuck into some unorthodox solutions if needs be. What can I do to resolve these issues?
Regarding the graphics card - is it a case that AMD have yet to release an updated driver? If so, I can live with that but in the meantime I would like to turn off the AMD card and work only with the integrated Intel graphics. Disabling the device in Device Manager does not seem to work. How do I do that?
The fingerprint reader is no big deal, but ideally I would like it working. What to do here?
If I need to do a re-install of W8 again and then get stuck into the driver installations I'm good with that, but would like to do it in a manner that will let me resolve these issues in the future without too much hassle.
    The spec of my machine is: HP DV7-6B01ED 17.3FHD / i5-2430 / 8GB / 750GB HDD / HD6490
    Thanks!

    Hello AttackofZaq....
Thanks firstly for your reply. I re-installed W8 to start from scratch.
OK, so I thought the AMD driver worked. I had installed it before I posted to the forum but then the problem seemed to have returned. I'll have to play with the settings because just as I type this the fan has started for no reason, same problem as before. Is there any chance Windows Updates in interfering?
Regarding the fingerprint reader - it hasn't helped. In Device Manager I now see Biometric Devices > Validity Sensors (WBF) (PID=0018). Is there some further software I require in order to use the device. I'm going to install SimplePass to see if that's needed.
I'll be back with an update.

  • T500 fingerprint reader - Windows 8.1 fingerprint option missing "enable biometic framework"

    Hy,
It's my first post here. I got a LENOVO t500 at work to use and I wanted to try to use finger print auth to log in. Its in a domain, but I got local administrator privileges on it. The machine runs 64bit Windows 8.1 Pro.
The fingerprint reader driver was missing in the first place (windows identified it as a fingerprint sensor but had no driver).
The sensor is an AuthenTec Inc, AES2810. I've tried to install the lenovo driver:
    http://support.lenovo.com/en/downloads/ds034486
But received the error message in the subject about I need to enable the biometric framework.
    I've also seen
    http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/T420-Windows-8-1-fingerprint-reader/m-p/124...
and downloaded-installed an authentec driver successfully, so now device manager shows it and identifies it as it should..
Well I've went to the group policies as it was suggeseted everywhere on the net and turned on the options.
I've also checked and found a windows services that had biometrics in it : I've set it to auto-start and started it right away.
But even after all of this the fingerprint option is missing in the accounts sign in page in pc settings.
I've restarted the machine multiple times (with the real restart )
Could you please give me a hint?
I've spent a whole day looking for this yesterday..
Have a nice day & Regards,
    Steve

Yes, but only after you enroll your fingerprints in the Fingerprint Manager, then Windows will tell you that Biometric logon is not enabled, and then you're given the option of enabling it.
However, for domain machines, this can be enabled thusly:
Goto: Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Biometric Devices
    Click: Change Biometric Settings
    Click both:
Allow users to log on to Windows using their fingerprints
    and
Allow users to log on to a domain using their fingerprints
    Restart the computer.
Click: 'Switch user' at the log on screen and choose the fingerprint icon (this of course requires you to first have added a set of fingerprints to your account)
See if this doesn't do the trick.

  • Fingerprint software, Window 7 and single logon feature

I have a T400s, when I got my machine and had Win7 rc installed on it, it was somehow setup so that when the machine was down, I could swipe my finger, and the machine would boot up and login directly into my account. The fingerprint reader seem to be active even when the machine was powered down.
I did a fingerprint data reset from bios so that I could do a  clean install for Win7 (released version).  But now the fingerprint reader does not seem to be active until I press on the power button.  Does anybody know if it is possible to restore the previous behaviour ?
It look strange that the fingerprint reader was active before power up but it was so convenient.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Make sure you have the Lenovo UPEK (beta) drivers/utility installed. Go to the ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software utility, under Settings make sure "Use fingerprint scan instead of power-on button" is checked. If you don't have such an option, try uninstalling and reinstalling the "TouchChip Fingerprint Coprocessor" driver.

  • Elitebook 8740w fingerprint reader not found and etc.

Had a catastrophic drive failure. Installed new drive and Win 7 SP1. Having trouble getting everything to work. Is there a driver, utility, bundle, suite available for this computer? Tried Protect Tools Security Manager, would not install  because of hardware incompatibility, there must be 50 versions of that Suite, I used the one for Win 7 64 bit, sp62498. Web cam works with Skype but can't find the utility. The list continues, any suggestions other than buying the restore disk? Or can I?I generally like the bundled HP software, where do I find it? Thanks

Downloaded the manager, selected my computer model, must be a hundred drivers. Downloaded all the critical, do I need the recommended as well?. I am in the process of down loading a gig of drivers. Most of my stuff is working, I just don't know if good drivers are loaded or just using what Windows found when it was installed. This has been a lesson for me, I will always buy a Factory Restore disk. Wonder if I can still buy a restore disk for my HP?Thanks for you help.

My fingerprint reader on my pavilion dv7 is not working. Actually it never worked (or showed any sign of action) since i bought my laptop.

  • Pavilion dv7 fingerprint reader stops working after several hibernate/suspend cycles

After severl hibernate cycles, the fingerprint reader on my Pavilion dv7 latop stops working. The indicator LED no longer flashes (in either colour), and nothing happens when I scan my fingerprint. I'm forced to revert to password login.
This has been an issue since getting the laptop. Fingerprint scanning works fine at first after a reboot, but when I hibernate (or, for that matter, suspend) the laptop after using, I'm never sure whether the scanner is going to work when I restart it. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't, and the only way that I've so far found to fix it is to reboot.
I've tried using installing the latest driver from HP's support site, although it seems to be dated May, 2011, and, interestingly, claims to fix a problem with not restarting after several hibernate cycles (hint: it doesn't). I've tried uninstalling and then re-installing the driver. Doesn't seem to make much difference.
Laptop is an HP Pavilion dv7-6166nr with Windows 7 64-bit Professional installed (although the problem was present with the factory-installed Windows 7 Home Premium).

Try downloading and running the HP Support Assistant if you have not already. It can search for updates for you specific to your notebook. Here is a link to the download: http://goo.gl/gvpTr

  • Brand New Dv7-6c90 Fingerprint reader isn't working...

I bought a new Dv7 brought it home and the fingerprint reader was working fine, up until i started installing software and rebooted my system now when i navigate to my biometric devices from the control panel it gives me this message "Windows did not find any biometric devices on this computer. You might need to attach your device or install device drivers."  Yet under my Device Manager the fingerprint reader is detected and working properly, the drivers can't be updated anymore, neither can the software.  I eventually concluded that it was a hardware problem and I exchanged it for another,  but the exact samething happened when i got home...any ideas to what the problem may be??

Ah if only life were so simple. I have been without a soundcard ever since upgrading to Windows 7, have spent hours on the Lenovo site trying to locate a driver, filling in all those little boxes, time after time to no avail. The drivers, if they exist at all, are being kept secret. There can be no other explanation. Have the same problem with the fingerprint thingy, but not bothered as the kids had learnt to bypass it anyway.
Enjoying windows 7 in complete silence. If anyone wants to advise downloading a driver then fantastic, but give us a clue where it is hidden.

  • Hp Envy Dv7 fingerprint reader stopped working ! what should I do?

Fingerprint reader of Hp Envy Dv7 stopped working after I downloaded and installed an update as Hp support assistant showed a message

I understand the fingerprint reader quick working after an HP Support Assistant update.
What was the name of the update that was applied?
    What is the product number?
NOTE: Do NOT provide the serial number.
If you perform a system restore to a date before the update, does the fingerprint reader work?

Hi eylattouf, welcome to the HP Forums.  Thank you for the well crafted question!
So if the Fingerprint driver is not installed, or apparently not being recognized, check the device manager to see if there are any unknown or errored devices listed. You can show hidden devices under the 'View' menu as well. If there are errored or unknown devices, remove them before installing the Validity drivers. After that restart the computer, and install SimplePass.
Here are the drivers for the fingerprint sensor: Validity Fingerprint Sensor Driver
and the SimplePass software: HP SimplePass Identity Protection 2011 Software
As well, here is a generic troubleshooting document, which you can go through to make sure it is set up correctly:

I have an HP ENVY dv6t-7200 CTO Quad Edition Notebook.  I recently had a complete system failure and had to reinstall the Windows 8.1 operating system.  Naturally, I lost most of my programs (which I have reinstalled).  However, I can't seem to get mt fingerprint scanner to work.  I've re-installed the SimplePass software as well as the divers.  I tried a hard reset and reinstalled the current validity sensor drive.  I still can't seem to get the fingerprint reader to come alive.  Anyone out there got any suggestions?

  • Tecra A10 - How deselect the fingerprint reader when docked

    Hi,
I use a Tecra A10 together with an Express Port Replicator 2.
How can I deselect the fingerprint reader when docked and yet use it when undocked?
    Thanks for your help

    Thank you so far!
I never thought your way, which makes sence to me indeed. It just bothered me all the time that the pop up window off the fingerprint reader is very dominant. So with some software it is not easy to insert your password. Do you know which external fingerprint reader the Toshiba TrueSuite Access Manager works with if at all?

  • Opening Multiple Reader Files Stacked and Aligned

    I know it's a strange request but...
A coworker of mine is wanting all of the Reader files that she opens to have each Reader window aligned and stacked on each other instead of them cascading or randomly arranged. These are all the same size documents and the layout is the same but just different content for each.
I have tried changing the preferences under Open Settings in "Documents" to "check Restore last view settings when reopening documents". But it isn't working.
Anyone else require this or know how to make this happen?
