Fingerprint upgrade broke Password Manager

On my SL510, I let Lenovo “ThinkVantage System Update” load “Lenovo Fingerprint software for Windows 7 64-bit 5.9.4.6882”.
Now the Password Manager/Password Vault says   “The requested operation requires fingerprint authentication, but the device is not installed.  Please make sure the device is connected and retry the operation”.
Brilliant.
The system logon process uses the fingerprint reader just fine, so it is “there”.  How do I update the PM to see it?
Thanks.

was not thinking when I hastily made my ID name. I do not work for Lenovo though I can now see it might look like/imply that with my goofed up ID.

  • Upgrade broke window manager :(

    Hi,
I had installed xfce 4.8 with liquorix kernel, everything was working smoothly until i got notification about some packages available for upgrade which also included linux kernel (though not sure if it was liquorix or stock kernel that came with arch). I upgraded and on reboot found everything behaving weirdly, no border for any window, also minimize, maximize, close buttons were missing. Mouse cursor had turned into a black x. When i launched terminal it mentioned window manager was not found.
Can anyone please help me in reverting back to my old desktop session or how can i fix these issues?
Any help is highly appreciated as my desktop is broke :-'(
    Thanks.

@Murray_B - I did have xfce working fine until i upgraded and that seemed to have borked something on xfce, since lxde & e17 works fine.
    I usually start xfce with this command -> exec ck-launch-session dbus-launch --sh-syntax --exit-with-session startxfce4
@stqn - will try your suggestion, however not sure if i can boot into the normal Arch kernel as i had installed liquorix kernel since the original one gave me kernel panic issues quite often and this is how my boot dir look like -

Also in E17 when i open up settings->settings panel all i get is a big window spanning the entire screen with just a close button, all other options are not available :-(. Any idea what the issue could be?

  • Password Manager Fingerprint confirmation

Hi I have a T60p and have my current version of Password Manager is 3  (3.00.0006.00).
Originally when I accessed a login point, password manager would throw up a fingerprint prompt to confirm that I am the authorised user to complete the auto submission & login.
However now with auto fill & submission on it simply logs me straight in.  This is not good if I am away from my pc since it allows any Joe Bloggs to access the login point and get logged in. Effectively there is no fingerprint control with Password Manager, correct?
Has functionality changed for the worst or is there a setting I have not found which has been changed during software update?
    Thanks

    Hi,
    make it following way:
    - open Password Manger <using GUI, or by pressing CRTL+Shift+B>
    - right click the name, that you want to change and select Properties
    - uncheck the option next to "Auto Fill-in"
Right now I'm also thinking of the fact, that when you click in this window the opiton "Customize Security policy" and by the option called "Protection frequency" you have selected "Once per boot" then this will act in the way, that it will ask you only one time for the finger print swipe and then you can open the applicaiton, or web browser and it will not ask you for the Fingerprint swipe, but it will automatically fill in the user name and password. If you reboot the system, then it will again ask you only one time for the finger and then it will fill it automatically.
In case you have it set to "Once per Boot", then change it to "Always" this should make it in the way, that it will allways ask you to swipe the finger.
Let me know, if this helps.

  • Newbie needs help comprehending CSS Password Manager functions

    Hello All:
    I own a TP W500 4062-27U running Windows 7 Ultimate.  The computer is trouble-free.
I am seeking a solution to the following need:  An application that will securely remember my passwords for various websites, etc. and enable me to log in using the fingerprint reader or similar.
I am aware that Lenovo provides both Fingerprint Reader software and Client Security Solution software, but I don't know whether or not either one (or both) of these applications will provide the functionality I am seeking.  I have spent a fair bit of time looking around the Lenovo website, but cannot find a document that describes (in a general, overview manner) the functionality that CSS provides.
I don't need to log into VPNs, or company networks, or anything really fancy like that - I just need something that will enable me to log into about 20 different websites, using a different password for each website.  Right now, I'm generally using the same password for every website (that way, I can remember what it is), and as I think you will agree, that is probably not a very good practice so far as security is concerned.
If anyone could point me towards a document that explains how I can get CSS to do what I want it to do, I would be very grateful.  If CSS does not have the functionality I am seeking, I would very much appreciate a recommendation of software - possibly non-Lenovo - that does provide the functionality I am seeking.
Thanks very much for your assistance.
    Michael

    Hi PanEuropean2,
    Welcome to Lenovo Forum!
In regard to your question, Client Security Solution (CSS) should be the right fit for you.
I have a T410 with Win 7, and have several passwords to remember which is really killing me. However, by using CSS, Fingerprint software and Password Manager, I need to enter all the passwords only once when access a website or a tool, and let it saved in CSS.
The next time i turn on the machine and open up a website which needs user ID and password, I just need to swipe the fingerprint that I've enrolled, then viola!
Just take note that after the first swipe of fingerprint, tools or website that are to be accessed later will automatically show the password in the box directly without having to swipe fingerprint again. You just need to click to log in. I"m not sure if this is the experience you're looking for, however, no harm to give it a try.
Here's the user guide for CSS. It has
    Client Security Solution components
    Client Security Solution installation considerations
    Client Security Solution features
    Hope this helps

  • Firefox 3.6 and future add-on updates of Password Manager

    Hello to all Thinkpad users,
I am starting this thread in order to encourage you people who are using lenovo's fingerprint reader with Password manager add-on for  Firefox.
Firefox 3.6 is just around a corner, and we are left in dark without an update of compatible Firefox add-on.
The previous thread "Firefox  3.5 PM compatibility  Saga" is not an encouraging
    reading.
However I hope all of you interested in Password Manager Update for Firefox 3.6  will reply to this thread and make it even longer than "Firefox  3.5 PM compatibility  Saga", so finally we'll be heard by lenovo and we'll get an update.
P.S. I am not a fan of conspiracy theories but this looks like an MS obstruction
    Regards
    T61 XP
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

For a variety of reasons not involving the Password Manager, I'm still using Firefox 3.0.x.
As I understand it, the Lenovo Firefox PM extension uses, in addition to the usual Javascript files, a custom DLL executable to interface with the PM. Usually such binary extension DLLs also are built for a specific version of the Firefox toolkit XPCOM programming interface, which has changed between the firefox 3.0.x and 3.5.x lines of development, hence simply manually editing the Firefox version numbers found in the install.rdf file in C:\Program Files\Lenovo\Client Security Solution\PWM FireFox Extension probably won't work.
This really needs serious attention from Lenovo! Firefox 3.5.x has been released for months already.
I use the Firefox Password Manager, encrypting my online passwords with a Firefox master password: the Firefox password recognition and storage is better than Lenovo's. What I really want, is an option in the Lenovo Firefox PM extension that just prompts me for my fingerprint when the Firefox master password dialog appears, not for every website password!

  • X200 ThinkVantage Password Manager

Hi. We are in the process of removing Local Administrator priveledges for most of our users. One of our users uses the fingerprint reader and ThinkVantage Password Manager software to control his Windows login and his Lotus Notes login on his X200 tablet.
Since removing his local admin priveledges, the user reports that he can no longer login to Lotus Notes using his fingerprint. He is only presented with the normal Lotus Notes login screen. When attempting to launch the Password Manager by pressing the blue ThinkVantage button above the KB and then selecting Manage, nothing happens. If his local admin rights are restored, he can login to Lotus Notes with his fingerprint, and the Password Manager launches properly.
Does anybody have any tips to get this working without local admin rights? Thanks!

    Hi,
first I would like to make a short explanation on how Fingerprint and CSS (Client security Solution aka Password Manager) are working in this situation:
After you confugred the system and the user swiped his fingers into the FPR applications and sensor, it hase captured also all other metadata, like the user role, name, domain, etc.
In case anything changes, then the application will react accordingly and in your case it will just kind of react, like if it would not recognize the login for Lotus notes.
So here is what I would advice to do:
    - remove all the swiped fingers from the FPR for the user, that you want to change (remove the Admin account) and make the appropriate changes to the system and the account
    - first of all as an Admin enter Fingerprint console and configure it , so that also a non-Admin user can log on and use the Fingerprint:
Settings->User Privileges-> check all the boxes, that are in this tab
    - log on as the affected user
    - swipe the fingers and make sure, that also CSS is configured, as it was previously
    - reboot the machine
This should be enough, to get the metadata corrected and the new, or better say the old user will be able to use the ususal Fingerprint loging without any problem.
Please let me knwo, if you will have any add questions, or will have this situation tested.
    Cheers

  • Disable ThinkVantage Password Manager

    Hi there,
I'am a new member of this communitty and this is my first thread.
I'am using a T61p running Windows XP and I want to disable the ThinkVantage Password Manager and fingerprint reader but I cant find a way to do this. Hopefully ther is somone here that can explain this.
    Thanks

This is an old thread, but in case others find it (like I did), here is an update:
I had the same problem (ThinkPad X201s, Win 7 32, latest Msft and Lenovo updates).  I made the mistake of trying to use the fingerprint reader with my overly dry hands (gave up after hand cream, hundreds of failures and only a few successes).
I disabled the fingerprint reader in a"Biometric Devices" control panel.  I didn't try other ways, but I did find settings that might disable it in System->Device Manager, and in BIOS.
But once I had tried to use the fingerprint reader, the Password Manager wouldn't go away.
I found a way to turn this thing off by opening C:\Program Files\Lenovo\Client Security Solution, and then running the program called css_pwmgr_toggle.exe
This program appears to do exactly what I wanted (turns off the ThinkVantage Password Manager in the systray/notification area).
Note that this procedure does NOT remove Client Security from the Startup tab in msconfig (a suggestion I've seen in other posts).

  • Do any versions of FF support the use of Lenovo's ThinkVantage Password Manager s/w and fingerprint scanner?

Lenovo Edge 15" laptop running Windows 7 (64 bit) and using Thinkvantage Password Manager Ver 3.20.0330 and TouchStrip Fingerprint Sensor (UPEK).
The password manager is to set to restrict logins to websites to fingerprint but when logging into websites I am not given the option to use the fingerprint reader -(the login info stored in the P/W manager is entered and login takes place). I have seen elsewhere that FF 3.6 has problems supporting this combination and wonder if any earlier versions of FF would be suitable or if FF 4 is likely to support it.
    Any help would be appreciated

    Kent1968
I would recommend, if you have it set, to go to a restore point before you uninstalled the password manager version that did not give you a problem and not use the new version until this bug is resolved.
If the fingerprint light is not showing up, then it is probably not limited to you and I hope Lenovo checks it out.
Too bad the newer version seems to load slowly - I will check it out as well.

  • ThinkVantage Password Manager unable to recognize fingerprint reader

Hi, I have a X220 running on Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. My ThinkVantage Password Manager version is 3.20.0333.00, and my fingerprint reader driver version is 1.5.0.289 from AuthenTec. My ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software version is 5.9.5 build 7038.
However, when authentication is required for the Password Manager, a Client Security Solution pops up showing "The requested operation requires fingerprint authentication, but the device is not installed. Please make sure the device is connected and retry the operation."
I am also unable to find the "enroll fingerprint" option in my Password Manager.
    Anyone have similar problems? Thanks.

Did this work previously, and it just stopped working?
What version of Client Security Solution is installed?  To use that version of Fingerprint software, it needs to 8.30.0049 (or later)

  • Fingerprint & Password Manager & PrivateDisk

    Hi,
First, I want to know how to use fingerprint when I click on the password manager icon? I already did it but my harddisk crash so I lost it. I think it become with an update of password manager (I use version 2.0.0 now) but now update manager don't update it because I still use Client security 7 probably. I didn't find any update on Lenovo support pages.
Second, I want to know if it is possible to use fingerprint with PrivateDisk (via password manager probably)? I didn't find anyway to activate it. It is not in password manager block list.
    Thank you!

    Hi,
I'm using CSS 8.21.006 on which it's realy easy to configure.
    Not sure about CSS 7.
However I would realy advice to use CSS 8.21 which is the latest, so that you can configure the whole, including Password Manager, so that by try to open Password Maanger you will be prompted to Swipe a finger.
According the second question, I'm not sure. sorry

  • Fingerprint & Password Manager Harmony...

I have a Lenovo T61p (XP Pro) with an integrated Fingerprint Reader, and the Password Manager installed.
Presently, when I've logged on to my system with the Reader, and then encounter a password prompt, the Password Manager fills in the password and I have only to press Enter to send the password.
I don't find this terribly secure, because anyone could press Enter at such a prompt.
I'd like to be able to have to swipe my fingerprint, and then have the Password Manager send the password automatically. Does anyone know if there's a way to configure the hardware/software so it behaves this way?
    Thanks.
    Chris

    1. You should set your computer password (blank is not good) ... then you have an option to ether use fingerprint or password to "send the data"
    2. You can set To finger print only setting in (finger print settings)..
    So its up to you.

  • Recent Fingerprint Reader update conflicts with Password Manager

    Hi,
After udating my Fingerprint Reader software to the most recent 64-bit 5.9.6.7084 version, my Password Manager (ver 3.20.0333.00) can no longer find the device. Am I the only one having this problem?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You are using the older Password Manager that's bundled with Client Security Solution.  And you need to update it to use the latest fingerprint software.
    http://support.lenovo.com/en_VN/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-73696
If you don't need the complexity of Client Security Solution, then another option is to start using the new stand-alone Password Manager 4.0
