Fingerprints on screen

I've had my powerbook for nearly two years now and the fingerprint smudges on the screen are terrible. I know I should have a cloth for when I close my laptop, so the oils won't transfer, but at this point, is it worth it to get a cloth?
how can I clean the smudges off the screen? I hear iKlear is good, but I've got a similar product that doesn't clean the smudges off. If I can get the smudges off, I'll buy the marware cloth to cover my keyboard and everything will be much better.
any tips? thanks!

I'm not sure that the grease has come from the keyboard, there's quite a lot of clearance between the two.
You could use many cleaners, however make sure whatever you do use doesn't contain alcohol (which will take the water out of the plastic and cause micro-cracks on the screen) or is caustic (damage the surface of the screen). I believe iKlear is recommended by Apple.
If it's that bad, just mix a very small amount of washing-up liquid and warm water in a cup, and use a soft textured cloth to clean the screen (only damp the cloth mind you, definitely no drips). Make sure you then go over it again with just a damp cloth so you lift off all the soap.

The anti-glare covers are pretty good at not showing fingerprints.

  • How to clean fingerprints off screen

My kids keep touching my iMac's screen and getting it all greasy. The owner's manual says to clean it by dampening the cloth that came with the computer, but all that does is make it smudgy. Any suggestions?

Put a teaspoon of regular white vinegar in a cup of water and then barely dampen a rag with it. Clean the screen taking care to not drip any on the computer. Then dry with a soft towel.

  • Requiring fingerprint scanner to appear at boot with W530 laptop

It seems when I reboot, hibernate or shut down Windows 8, the next time the computer comes on, it asks me for my hard drive password.  It doesn't display the fingerprint bios login screen even though I have configured it to always be displayed and user for power on according to the options in the windows software and in bios.
If I poweroff when it doesn't work and then power on again , it will show the fingerprint option, meaning, I have to shut down twice to get it to reset itself.    When it does show the fingerprint scan option, I am able to auto-unlock the hard drive, so I know it has installed the password correctly.
Does anyone know how to get the bios to always show the fingerprint login option?   I think I've read and set the options correctly, but there seems to be a bug in how this works.
Also, if I try to power on with the fingerprint scan, the computer turns on, but sometime it still asks for the hard drive password instead of showing the fingerprint boot screen.   Does quick boot or anything else interfere with the fingerprint security options?

I found an option in windows power options - "change what the power buttons do" for "fast boot".  I disabled that, and now the fingerprint scan works when powering on after a full poweroff.
I also tried uncheck the option in device manager that allows windows to sleep the device.
I haven't found anything to force fingerprint pre-boot authentication to appear when resuming from hibernation or sleep. I have to type the hard drive password.  I tried using my finger, but the light sensor doesn't respond on the hard drive bios password screen.  It is only possible to scan on the white box scanning screen or when inside windows.
I'm not trying to login to windows.  I'm trying to have pre-boot authentication when resuming from hibernation/sleep.  It's not a big deal, but it would be more convenient and secure.  I noticed other people on this forum mentioning this issue, and there wasn't any solution posted yet.  It seems like you'd have to disable hibernate and sleep if you wanted to require fingerprint at pre-boot.

  • HP ProBook 6560b won't boot after enetering finger print or password

    Hi,
I have a 6560b. Been working fine until yesterday when i powered on and it asks for my finger print. After doing so it says verified  but just sits on the fingerprint verification screen and does not boot.
I tried running all the HP diagnostics for the entrie machine which all passed including the hard disk.  I have removed all usb devices and even removed the extra memory just in case but with no luck.
I can't even access the recovery as when i do the F11 i get a blank screen with a cursor top left and nothing else.
Tried enetering a windows 7 boot CD to see if i can access my files but i cant see where to choose to boot from the CD using F9 boot options as CD is not there.

  • Suggestion for U2 iPod

    Hey,
What would you suggest would be the best way to keep my iPod Video U2 Edition clean from fingerprints, the screen, and around the clickwheel from all kinds of stuff which it may come in contact with.
    (Fingerprints mostly)
    Thanks

I have mine in an iPod sock, and it is totally
pristine. Literally without a single scratch.
    You could always put it in its box and not touch it;
that would keep the fingerprints off!
I use the iPod case it came with it. Its black and Nylon esque, but it doesnt do it for me :P

  • If you rub the edge of the fingerprint scanner in a circle, why does the screen drop down?

MY daughter was drawing circles around the metal part of the fingerprint scanner and noticed the screen contents moves to the bottom of the screen instead of the top. Then it goes back to the top when touched again. Why does it do this?

That is a feature of the 6 & 6 plus.  I believe it is called reachability.  It moves the furthest section of the screen down to allow for one handed use.

  • How do i clean fingerprints off my iMac 27" screen?

I have the 27" late 2012 model iMac and was wondering how to clean fingerprints off the screen. While my family does a videochat we kinda move the scrrenup, down, left or right to view the whole room and nov there are fingerprints on the screen. If i clean them the screen becomes even worse.I cant buy anything too expensive.
    Thanks,
    smatef

I have a similar problem though I have the 21.5", in my case I followed the cleaning directions exactly (except in a few cases where I got some of the cleaning fluid on the display, old habit I guess as that's what the instructions on the cleaner I occasionally use says).
Anyway, even when I follow the directions exactly I am left with smear marks on the glass that can take at least a fortnight to completely eradicate. Regardless of whether I am using water or an LCD cleaning solution.
Something about the newer anti-glare coating is preventing proper cleaning of the display!
Is there a workaround solution, an officially licensed cleaning solution designed for the new coating, or am I doomed to take weeks to clean my screen each time?
I didn't have this problem with my early 2006 iMac 17", with that one I could use the cleaning solution and a quick wipe with both sides of the provided cloth and the screen was like new.

  • I cannot use the Fingerprint reader to unlock my screen!

I just updated my S5 software from SM-G900V NCG to NE9 and now my screen will unlock only with PIN or Password. Before the update I could use my fingerprint. When I try to select Fingerprint that option is grayed out and informs me "Turned off by administrator, encryption policy or credential storage." How do I get the Fingerprint option back?

This was also a problem I had post update but I got it back. First do a complete recheck of your fingerprint settings? If you’re still grayed out next power down phone & remove the battery, SD card and SIM (handle SIM with care (don’t touch gold foil) for about two minutes. Re-install SIM, card & battery then power on phone. This should clear up files and return the print reader setting.  If however it’s not working do the next step:
Go to settings then backup and reset, tap Reset settings and then tap reset settings at the bottom of the screen. You will not have a loss of your accounts or any apps but you will affect some of your personal preferences settings. You can reset then as before after the restart. It will remove the bad files in your system and this restored my print reader.  Give the above a try...first.

It used to happen on my W700 with Win7 x64 too. What's worse, the FPR worked after the initial reboot after installation but failed to work after a further reboot: it would then hang on "please wait" and increase the password logon time. I uninstalled the FPR software and no longer use it...
The mentioned problem has been solved by installing the latest fingerprint software: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=WIN7-BETA#autc (7wf459ww.zip).

  • What is the best anti-fingerprint screen protector?

SGP havn't release the UO version yet,
any other suggestion for the new retina screen.

I have a Power Support antiglare on mine.  Works great for the glare and the fingerprints.  Fingerprints bug me more that anything and without I find myself constantly wiping the screen.

  • T410s fingerprint reader not working. Also, display/screen problems

    Hi,
I have been using my t410s for about two months now, and initially I used the fingerprint reader to log on or unlock the computer.  I started signing on with my password a few weeks ago and have noticed that my fingerprint reader log-on will no longer work.
There is a green light next to the fingerprint reader when it is accessible (log-ins, etc.).  When I used to use it, it would pause and then blink green or red if tehre was an error, and then light up green again until I correctly swiped my finger.  Now, during log-ons, there is a green light, and when I swipe my finger, the light turns off (does not become green again, AND the screen does not recognize my original swipe) so I am forced to use the password to sign on.
    How do I resolve this?
While I'm here...I've noticed in the last few weeks taht my screen would occasionally 'fade' to 'off colors' (like the contrast is tweaked).  I remember once, the screen shut down and then came back up with a window stating something abuot the computer resolving its own problem of the videocard(or whatever...I'm not sure what component it was, only that it was display-related).  It may help to know taht I use a display application that changes the screen brightness with the time of day (f.lux), which may have something to do with this but I doubt it because none of the screen settings with of this application look like the 'faded', 'off-looking' screen that I'm inquiring about.
    Any tips?

    Hi,
I experienced the same strange display problem as you. Since two month I have a T410s (2912-39G) and from time to time the colors of the screen would start changing for no obvious reason and come back to normal after about one minute. When it happens it gives me the impression that the color composition changes gradually, as if one color component is suddenly fading away and the display image gets a weird contrast, but it is hard to describe. I have no influence on the process for example by changing the contrast, and with me it's not linked to any additional screen-software either (e.g. f.lux is not installed).
I'm glad you mentioned the issue, dele44. I didn't dare to bother my dealer with it because it's hard to describe and I have no clue how to provoke it. Anybody else has had the problem or an idea how to solve it....
