Finicky MagSafe Adapter

My new Aluminum MacBook is roughly a week old. The night I got it, I noticed it wasn't charging. I tried the MagSafe from my old MacBook (one of the black ones) and it did the same thing. After some wiggling and adjusting it started charging but this is getting ridiculous.
I shouldn't have to wiggle the MagSafe to get it to connect and charge. As far as I have read, this is a common problem. I know it's not charging because my battery display shows when it's charging and when it's not. The slightest move can change the positioning and then I haveto fiddle with it again.
I installed the SMC Firmware update and it's not helped at all. Is this a hardware problem that Mac intends to fix? Can I have it repaired? I've never had this sort of problem before. I really feel as though the MagSafe simply has too much room. The old MacBooks there was no wiggle room for the MagSafe.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I use my computer at least 10 hours out of the day and this really is getting old already.

The only reason I say it seems to be common is because I saw one other thread on here which seemed to (vaguely) describe the same problem I've been having. I will be calling Apple today.
I bought it at the big Mac store on 5th Ave here in NY actually, last Saturday. It was an early birthday/christmas gift from my Uncle since I dropped my old Macbook and the cracked screen name it hard to use grin
I was mostly curious if anyone had had the same problem or similar and what they did. I've used Macs all my life and one of the great things is they come out of the box, actually read to use, etc. I don't like that this one sort of didn't.

Magsafe adapter issue

I purchased a non apple 60 watt magsafe adapter after my 2 year old macbook pro was having issues, I replaced the battery with a apple battery and the non charging issue continued, I would have to wiggle or place a phone on adapter where it magnetically attaches to laptop to get it to charge. The light goes on and off at will, and in order to chjarge it I have to play with it. The second adapter I bought worked great for 67 cycels and is now doing the same thing.. IS it the adapter or something more sinister? I tried to inform apple of the issue a few years ago and did not get anywhere. Any advice?

Magsafe Adapter show amber light but it's not charging.

I have a problem with my Macbook Air (Mid 2011), when I plug the Magsafe AC Power Adapter sometimes just doesn't charge the battery, sometimes shows the green light and sometimes the amber light.
I tried restarting the SMC, also I tried to use other Magsafe Adapter. Even I tested the Magsafe with another Macbook and works fine.
I already cleaned both ports with a toothbrush.
I don't know what else I can do. Please help me.

Do you have a friend with a MacBook? If so try their power adapter and see if that works. If it does then you have a bad power adapter. And check this Apple Support article http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1713

My 2008 Macbook only charges when it's sleeping. When it's awake, the MagSafe adapter blinks green on and off. I've cleaned the connectors and the problem is still there.

This is a recent problem, only since I updated the last security update from apple has this been happening. No matter where I plug the laptop in (as in, no matter the power source), the magsafe adapter glows green like it's going to charge, that lasts roughly a second and my mac behaves as if it's going to charge (different status bar indicator and brightness jumps).. aaand then the green light shuts off completely, mac brightness & status indicators go back to normal. Then the light comes back on, then shuts off, rinse, repeat. When I put the mac to sleep or shut it down completely, then plug the magsafe in, it works and charges just fine. But then the second I wake the mac up, the orange charge light shuts off and it goes into the green light loop again. Weird issue, just putting it out there to see if anyone's had that happen before and can offer tips. I've tried resetting the SMC and removing the battery when it's shut down, btw. Halp!

Can I use a Macbook Pro extender (125V, 2.5A) to extend my 60W MagSafe adapter?

I am in India and I have a 60W MagSafe Adapter which I run without any problems as adapter supports 100-240V (India runs on 230V - https://www.google.com/webhp?#q=india+voltage)
I have a Volex extender that I'd love to use but I am not sure if I can use it in India as it has the following details printed on it 2.5A 125V. Can I use it without using any voltage converter or am I good to go?

I am not familiar with with the Volex product you mention, but you state that spec is for 125V use. Try getting an adapter that fits the plug on your PSU and fits the outlet in India.

Recently when I want to charge my Macbook Pro, ok Pro 13" with my Magsafe adapter, it charges for a few seconds and then it stops as soon as my MBP found the remaining charging time.. I haven't done anything to my adapter.

What can I do? Do I have to go back to the store? It is only four months old.

sounds like a funky charger, go to the store and try anoher if it messes up have it replaced. They've been having issuses wuth the new charger

My friends Macbook Pro 2011 same as mine wont charge the battery via MagSafe adapter. The battery is good and the adapter also, ive checked them on my Mac. The problem is that on her Mac it won't charge. I've change the MagSafe adapter on her computer and it didn't work still no charge, no green light on the L shaped adapter. Can it be the Logic Board?

No charge from magsafe adapter

I hate to post a new topic when it looks like hundreds of people have this problem, but none of the methods posted seem to have worked for me.
The other day I was using my macbook when i realized that the battery power was decreasing even though it was plugged in. I checked the power source, all seemed connected well, but the little green/amber light wasn't showing up on my magsafe adapter.
Eventually all of the battery power was used up and the computer turned off.
I have plugged this cord into about a hundred different places, tried other people's power cords... nothing.
I took the computer to a genius bar a few hours ago. They plugged in their adapter to my computer, and miraculously, it started charging again. Then they tried my adapter, and it, too, started working. We charged it up to 10% and then I was on my way, feeling a tad like an idiot, since everything seemed to work just fine at the genius bar.
Now I am back at home, and the **** thing isn't charging at all... again. And the 10% charge that I had saved up at the Apple store is gone... again.
No charge, no anything.
What should I do?

My MacBook works only with the Adaptor....and I've bougth it in the july 2007...

Please Help! MBP shutting off when plugged in, now not recognizing MagSafe Adapter

I started seeing this problem a few weeks ago, my MacBook Pro just shut off spontaneously while watching a video full-screen. I turned it back on and the problem went away for a while. But now, the shut-downs happen more frequently. It doesn't matter if the MBP is running off of the battery or if its running off of the AC cord, it will just shut off. No warning. No standard shut-down process, everything just stops and a balck screen shows up. After it shuts off, it takes a few seconds to get it to restart, and when it does, the computer's date and time will be reset to some date in 2000. Very strange, I've had this computer for a year and I know people with the same model that have had no such problems. The battery is at 168 cylces (I use this for school, so it was being used everyday throughout the last two semesters), and the Condition is listed as Normal in the System profiler, so I doubt the problem is with the battery, but I could be wrong. I've seen posts about the RAM/PRAM causing the date/time resets. Nevertheless, the MBP has been running normally on the battery, battery life is still the same length of time as it was when I first got the computer, and runs smoothly. Up until last night, the AC MagSafe Adapter was still working, so I only used that as the power source. Everything was fine, but the MBP shut off once or twice while it was plugged in within the last month or so, but the AC would still have a green light, indicating the computer was still recognizing the power source. Now, I can't get the MagSafe to be rocognized at all. The computer is running on battery only, and I've tried resetting the SMC, but I'm unsure if it worked since the MagSafe is still unrecognized. When its plugged in, the System Profiler says it is not connected and not charging.
I'm running on Mac OS X 10.6.8, a 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, with a 4GB memory (of which less that half is used). Computer usage is low, so its not like I'm running several programs at once, at most, its two or three at a time, for short periods. My MBP is a 13" aluminum body, doesn't seem to be overheating, has worked fine after long periods of being on and getting hot, I always let it cool down after I feel it getting too warm.

Hey, does anyone make a PowerBook-to-magsafe adapter? I have five power supplies for my old PowerBook G4 that I would love to use on my new MacBook so that I don't have to go out and buy five more power adapters. The adapter would be a female to accept the PowerBook connector (RCA-type connector with the 1/8" mini-type inner shaft) to the new magsafe end. How about parts? I'll build it myself!

Obviously. I am not talking about constructing a Magsafe connector. I am talking about wiring a Magsafe connector to a PowerBook G4 power supply. With the proper parts I or anyone with cabling skills and the correct wiring diagram could easily construct an adapter to use between the PowerBook G4 supply and the MacBook.

Yes, Apple will replace it if you are still under warranty. Otherwise, as in my case, you will have to buy a new one.
I purchased my MacBook Air July of 2011. Approximately four months later the adapter stopped working. I brought my MacBook and the adapter to the Genius bar. The adapter was replaced because it was under warranty. To make sure the problem was not something I did as I didn’t want to duplicate, I inquired and was told some adapters just have problems. After two weeks, I noticed the rubber coating to the wire bunched up on the L end that connects to the MacBook Air on the replacement adapter. I returned to the store and was assured that my concern was unwarranted and that since the adapter was working fine I was fine and that if it stopped working I could just return it. On 11/22/12 it was not getting power. I returned to the store. After being asked where I returned the adapter when I originally had the problem (same store) I was informed that the replacement adapter was only covered for three months, to be happy it lasted as long as it did, and I would need to buy a new one for $61. However, the store didn’t have the adapter I needed and could buy the 60W adapter for $79. I was told I could go up, just not down. Before leaving, however, I asked if I was doing something wrong with the adapter and how long the new one was covered for. He inspected the nonworking adapter, pointed at the where the wire connects to the base and said no, usually people have their cords pulled from here but yours looks fine. On the plus side, the rubber coating around the wire of the new adapter appears thicker with no chance of sliding and bunching up. Glad Apple fixed this issue.

Does your Magsafe Adapter Do This?

Quick question. Maybe I'm just getting senile, but I don't remember my Magsafe adapter ever doing this before, so I thought I'd ask if someone could test theirs out and let me know. Obviously, when the adapter is plugged into the laptop (and of course plugged into an outlet), the indicator light glows either autumn or green, depending on the charge status. If you unplug the adapter FROM THE LAPTOP, does the light stay on? I thought as soon as I unplugged the plug from the laptop, the light would go off? However, now it stays on in an autumn color.
It appears the computer is charging fine, but I don't remember this ever happening, and want to ensure it is not signaling some sort of a short? Thank you!

the magsafe indicator light will stay on for a bit after unplugged but will then go off. It's probably a faultly magsafe, so take it to an apple store for them to have a look at.

Laptop battery and generic MagSafe adapter

My MagSafe adapter went dead. If I use a generic MagSafe adapter the ones that you buy on ebay. Would this damage my laptop battery?

I would avoid those - I tried it once in my old 15 inch Macbook - and for some reason - it only works when it wants to and my battery needed to be replaced after a couple of months (coincidence maybe?).
So spend the extra $20 for the Apple Branded Magsafe.
Then again, that's just my suggestion.

Is there going to be a Magsafe 2 to Magsafe Adapter?

When they first announced Magsafe 2 and the Magsage to Magsafe 2 adapter, I didn't think much about Magsafe 2 to Magsafe, as I thought maybe you could go one way without an adapter. However, after putting my order in for the MBP Retina, I got the Magsafe to Magsafe 2 adapter.
With it, I tested if I would be able to plug in a Magsafe 2 power adapter to a Magsafe device, and it won't work. You would need a Magsafe 2 to Magsafe adapter, but I don't think one exists!!. Hopefully I am wrong. Please let me know if I am.
My family has several Macbooks (MBA, MB and soon a MBP Retina). We have 85w Adapters so we never have to think about which adapter to grab on the way out (we keep the MBA adapter for use at home). I don't mind having a few of the little Magsafe adapters in our bag so that it doesn't matter which power adapter we grab, but once I get th MBP Retina, I can see a situation where we are going to grab the old Magsafe based MB, and accidently grab the Magsafe 2 power adapter. Also, why would Apple keep selling two different 85w Adapters? Why not just sell the Magsafe 2 power adapter and offer a Magsafe 2 to Magsafe adapter for those with older Macbooks? If anyone has any info on a pending Magsafe 2 to Magsafe adapter and when one might be available, please post. Thanks!!!!

Hi Everyone, I`m also looking for a Magsafe 2 to Magsafe adapter, because I`m interested in buying a Thunderbolt Display for both mi Macboop Pro and my wife`s Macbook Air, both with a Magsafe connector.
I didn`t buy the current Thunderbolt Display model because of the rumors of a new display coming soon, and I`m pretty sure that it will be coming with a Magsafe 2 connector.
So, if that is correct, actually I coudn`t use it because there isn`t an adaptor available just now,for use it with mi laptops.
I hopes Apple will be considering this.
