Finishing an Indesign CS4 Silent Installation

Hi, I'm successfully able to do an unattended installation of InDesign CS4.  However, after completion, the command-line window just sits there and stares at me with the exit code.  Is there any way so that the command-line window will close automatically?  This is going to be a part of a package installation and I need it to close out so that it moves to the next component (InCopy CS4).  Thanks in advance.

I'm sorry to hear you are having trouble. I've only done the download once,  and if memory serves running the exe is supposesed to unpack the installer and deployment folders, which I seem to have done in a sufolder of the directory where I stored the .7z file and .exe. Burning them to a disk will not work -- they need to be on your hard drive.
What size is the downloaded .exe file that you have?

  • InDesign CS4 Trial Installation

I just downloaded (for the 3rd time at about 1 hour dowload time each) the trial version of InDesign CS4 and it will not execute.  The setup file is either corrupt or incomplete, because I get an error message that the setup file is incomplete or missing.  I followed the instructions that after the dowload there awould be 2 files:  an .exe file and a .7z file.  The .7z file is to download 100% before launching the .exe file.  The .7z file downloads with the no problem, but when you try to execute the .exe file I get an error message.
Any suggestions?  I tried calling Adobe, but unless you are a "paying customer", i.e. not trial version, they cannot help you.
    Thanks and Frustrated!

  • You can't open the application "Adobe InDesign CS4" because it is not supported on this architecture"

A day or two ago I went through installing Adobe InDesign CS4 on Leopard OS X.5.8.  After what appears to be a successful installati
on, in launching InDesign CS4 the message " You can't open the application "Adobe InDesign CS4" because it is not supported on this
architecture" comes up".  Calling in to support and speaking with the agent who read through previous posts, suggested to me that I
should try the same fix that has been suggested when I ran across an error when installing Adobe InDesign CS4 on another separate ha
rd drive externally connected to this computer running Snow Leopard OS X.6.1 for the error reading: "Damaged &/or incomplete install
ation" when launching afterwards.  The support technician told me to first delete with the uninstall Adobe InDesign CS4, InDesign.
Following this I am told to run the CS4 Cleanup Utility.  I restart the computer each and every time after running each of the utili

This morning contacted Adobe Support regarding this response:
After having a detailed reserach on your issue i acme to the conclusion

will find the Mac OS version supported are from Mac OS X

I have been told that my case is being sent to Level 2 agents and that it can take 24-48 hours for a response.  In the meantime I decided to see what the Support Forums can do for me.  Until then I am down.  Thanks for the help.

In the application folder there is a folder 'Adobe InDesign CS4' within which there is just the application file. I would expect there should be more file there??

  • Slow installation for indesign CS4 trial

I have downloaded the trial issue for indesign cs4 and try to install it on my PC, it is really slow, it is about 10 hours now and the install progression is only at "Adobe Output Module", it is about 25% of the total installation if I look at progress bar.
My computer is an Acer Aspire 7720, Intel core duo, cpu 2 GHz, RAM 3 Go and 250 Go of Hard drive.
I have followed the instruction to disabled the Antivirus program and Firewall too. So how to speed up this install, it is the first time I encountered that kind of problem.

User Access Control and Pain In The Arse.
There's something going on with the system if the profile check is taking two hours. How much free space is left on the hard drive?
Is there some sort of minimum-required configuration you can boot to, similar to running MSconfig in XP and turning off startup programs and non-Microsoft services? It really sounds like there is still something running in the background that is conflicting. You are certain that anti-virus is not running? I'd also be sure that no browser toolbars are loaded, nor any instant messenger or music programs, and have a local printer, rather than a network printer, set as the default and online.

  • InDesign CS5 7.0 Silent installation?

    Dear all,
in our Company we use the Altiris Deployment solution for packaging and automatic deployment.
We need to create a silent installation of Adobe InDesign CS5 (7.0).
Our machines are running Windows XP SP3.
The installation should be in language german, without an serial (trail). The serial will be inserted

The folder structure from the setupfiles is the following:

I've tried all the advice given to date, but the ID CS5 version 7.0.4.553 crash continues to occur on start up only on one user profile with error message EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGBUS).
It looks like others have had a similar problem, but theyve been able to resolve it by copying over their preferences from an earlier version of ID, but I don't have earlier versions on this computer, so I'm out of luck.
I doubt copying over preferences is ever correct. There are no documented cases that I know of where copying preferences works and deleting them does not.
Essentially every crash gives an EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGBUS) error. You need to inspect the stack trace for anything that is specific to yours. In your case it references a ProtectiveShutdown, so consult the ProtectiveShutdownLog file in the InDesign Recovery folder for more information.

  • Adobe InDesign CS4 Debug WIN Installation

I need to port an InDesign CS3 plugin to InDesign CS4. In order to do that I've installed the Adobe InDesign CS4 Debug WIN but when I'm trying to start the application I receive the following error message in German: "Diese Anwendung konnte nicht gestartet werden, weil die Anwendungskonfiguration nicht korrekt ist. Zur Problembehebung sollten Sie die Anwendung neu installieren.". In english this should mean something like "This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Try to reinstall the application.".
The box I've tried installing on has visual studio C++ 2005 SP1 and InDesign CS3 Debug already installed (which works fine). I've looked through the requirements in the "InDesign® CS4 Read Me" and couldn't find anything that I'm missing.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Folks,
ID CS4 Debug and ID CS3 Debug can be installed on the same system. The likely reason that the CS4 version is giving that error is because the CS4 version needs some Visual Studio 2005 SP1 DLLs that aren't installed on the computer.
I believe that there are a couple of ways to fix this. One is to install Visual Studio 2005 SP1 (the recommended setup for CS4 plug-in development). When you install SP1 the DLLs needed by ID CS4 Debug will be installed. The other way, I think, is to not SP1, but install the release version of ID CS4 on your system. I understand that the ID CS4 Release version installer will install the DLLs needed by the debug version.
However, if you use VS2005 (no SP1 installed) for CS4 plug-in development you will not be using the recommended development environment for CS4. But if you install SP1, and you want to develop plug-ins for CS3, you will not be using the recommended development environment for CS3 plug-in development. Go figure.
Please note that once you install VS2005 SP1, any plug-ins that you compile will be looking for the SP1 version of the C/C++ Runtime DLLs when the plug-in is launched. The needed DLLs will be on your development system, so everything will seem fine when you test your CS3 plug-ins on your development computer. But when the plug-in is launched on a machine without the SP1 DLLs installed, the plug-in will not run.
I'm not sure of the best way to deal with this (I'm mainly a Mac guy), but there was a thread here entitled
Visual Studio 2005 SP1 about this issue a while back. This thread was partially deleted due to a forum software problem, and one of the ideas that was mentioned was lost from the message thread. Below are the useful (IMHO) missing messages (sent to me by Dirk Becker), who follows the forum using email.
[Ugh! I told Dirk I would write up a Wiki entry for this, but work happened and I haven't gotten to this yet. :-( ]

    FROM: Eugenio Andres
    Hi Jim,
From your original error message, the problem is most likely with the installation of the C/C++ SP1 runtime DLL on the machine that does not have the compiler. It's not so simple nowadays as copying over the DLLs, because Microsoft invented the side-by-side system, that allows having several versions of the same file on one machine.
Your options are installing the runtime on each machine (a package for that is available from Microsoft Download) or changing your project to the static runtime ("Multithreaded" instead of "Multithreaded DLL"). I always use static linking in plugins with no problems, although Adobe specifies dynamic in their instructions, but you avoid these "DLL hell" problems.

    Hi Eugenio,
    Thanks for the information.
So, are you saying that I simply have to go into my Plug-In's property page in VS2005 SP1 and change the C/C++ Code Generation from Multi-threaded DLL (/MD) to Multi-threaded (/MT) and rebuild the project? What are the downsides of doing this--or are there any?
    <...SNIP...>

    =========
    =========
    FROM: Eugenio Andres
    Hi Jim,
    You're welcome.
Yes, that project change should do it. The difference is that with the "DLL" version, your plugin loads the C/C++ runtime shared library (DLL) at runtime and calls it for any needed functions (like strcpy, malloc, etc.). Without the "DLL", the linker puts the C/C++ runtime code directly into your plugin and you don't need the C/C++ runtime SP1 DLL (the error you're getting is because your plugin required the DLL and it's not found on that machine).
The C++ SP1 runtime shared library is different from the C++ non-SP1 library InDesign uses. In this new Windows "side-by-side" scheme, both can live together.
If you use the exact same C/C++ runtime that Adobe uses, then that library is physically shared and it allows to do some "risky" things as e.g. allocating memory in one module (e.g. InDesign) and freeing it in another (e.g. your plugin). But this is usually not recommended and I don't think Adobe is doing it (but then it's only my impression from the code structure).
Anyhow, from the moment you use the SP1 compiler, you're not sharing the runtime any more with InDesign, so it doesn't matter if you compile "MultiThreaded" instead of "MultiThreaded DLL". The difference between these is the size of the plugin and the easyness of distribution, and without DLL you miss possible "automatic" updates of the C++ runtime DLL (because the C/C++ runtime code is embedded in your plugin), but lately new versions of the C/C++ runtime become "different" DLLs, as you can see, so that's not so relevant any more - or if it's critical, you can always recompile your plugin and redistribute if needed.
You can find a brief description of SP1 in
    http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/vstudio/aa718695.aspx
It looks like minor non-breaking changes to me, but one never knows...

  • InDesign CS4 Volume Licensing Installer Download Link

    Hello Folks,
I'm trying to find the link to download my old InDesign 6.0 (CS4) as I lost the original CD, but there is no Link available on the volume licensing site.
Does anybody know where I could find this?
    Thanks!

@Peter Spier: Thanks, the Installer from that link you suggested worked. I thought I had tried that one previously for InDesign but it was for another adobe product (sorry for the confusion).
I spoke to Adobe representative(s) before I posted on the forum, one suggested going to Other downloads and download the Installer and when I tried it my serial # didn't work, I called them back and another one said I should find the right Installer on my Volume Licensing site, and of course there was no link to download InDesign CS4...
Anyway, it worked and that's what matters, I really appreciate your help.

  • InDesign CS4 launches with missing workspaces, keyboard shortcut sets, etc

Due to the mixture of multiple issues in this thread:
    http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.59b6c639/
I'm starting this as a new topic to focus on the cases where InDesign CS4 users are able to launch and use the product, but are missing resources such as the following types of presets: Workspaces, Keyboard Shortcut Sets, and Swatch Libraries.
All reports of this issue appear to be related to user permissions. For these resources to to be accessed you must be running InDesign CS4 with an account that has read/write access to the following folder, including it's subfolders and all of their content:
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS4\Presets
If you have a setup where you are running into problems getting resources from this folder to appear in InDesign CS4, and you believe your user account has read/write permissions to all of it's contents, please let me know as I'd like to work with you to find a solution.

The complete fix from start to finish for my problem (InDesign CS4 launching without toolbars or keyboard shortcuts when logged on without Administrator priviliges) is below.  It's actually quite simple once you know how... The problem is just getting all of the information in the same place.  Hopefully it will help others having the same problem.
    1.        Install CS4 from the 2 installation CDs.  Allow a couple of hours from start to finish.
    2.        Log on with an Administrator account:
    a.        Navigate to “C:\Program Files\Adobe\”.
    b.        Right-click on the folder named “Adobe InDesign CS4”
    c.        Click Properties
    d.        Click on the Security tab
    e.        Change permissions for Users to Full Control
    f.         Click on the Advanced button and ensure that there is a check in both of the boxes (inherit and replace permissions).
    g.        Click Apply to reflow the permissions
    h.        Click OK twice.
    3.        Navigate to the following locations and rename each of the EN_UK folders to EN_US:
    a.        C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS4\Presets\InDesign Workspaces\
    b.        C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS4\Presets\Page Sizes\
    c.        C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS4\Presets\Start Page\
    d.        C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS4\Presets\InDesign Shortcut Sets\
    4.        With a user account, launch Adobe InDesign CS4 and immediately hold down Shift, Control and Alt together.  Click Yes to delete the InDesign Preference files.

  • InDesign CS4 always crashes

I have never been able to successfully run InDesign CS4 on my 13" MacBook Pro I bought in 2007. (OS X 10.4.11) I haven't had problems with any of the other software/programs in the suite. The program appears to install fine, but as soon as I try to open the program or an .indd file, the most InDesign has ever done is allow me to open a new file or show the file I tried to open before the program stops responding and I have to force quit.
I've had CS4 for about a year now, and I got new installation discs about 6 months ago because one of my original ones got scratched. I've had several long conversations with Adobe customer service, none of which have made any difference. I've run Clean Script twice, deleting the AdobeFnt11.lst file, and I've tried downloading a trial version at least 3 times.
Finally, after looking through the forums I thought it'd be worth a shot to see what folks here have to say before waiting an hour to follow up with Adobe tech support again--which has consistently been a very long call that ends with me doing something that takes too long to download or complete than it makes sense to stay on the phone with them for while it finishes. This last time it was them telling me to download the trial version again and of course it didn't work. I've since run Clean Script and reinstalled the entire creative suite from my discs and still, the only thing InDesign will do is crash.
I'm a commuting graphic design student and I've been putting up with needing to go to the campus labs to do any InDesign work for so long because I haven't absolutely needed to use it very frequently until now. It's crucial for me to make InDesign work on my MacBook Pro ASAP. Help! Ideas, anyone? Pretty please?

In case it makes a difference, my MacBook Pro is the 15" not 13" like I originally posted.
Ugh, what a nightmare InDesign has been for me. I pay a lot of money I don't have laying around for a creative suite that I've never been able to fully use, then spend countless hours over the course of a year trying to remedy the issue without any success whatsoever. If it's an Adobe issue, I'd think I should get some sort of compensation for all of this trouble that I never should have had to go through. It just seems so strange that my mac would have a problem with only one specific program within a suite that otherwise works fine. I really need to be able to use the product that I paid a lot of money to legitimately be able to use.
I really appreciate any advice/information/input I can get. I can't  afford paying hundreds of dollars for a disgnostic/repair if I could at  all avoid it, let alone the significant amount of time I'd have to go  without my computer to do that, so I'd really love to have more options  to explore. Thanks!

  • My copy of Adobe InDesign cs4 will not open a regular idml file.

I opened my document, and all it said was "cannot open the file "Tightsketch_charrette2.idml". Adobe InDesign may not support the file format, a plug-in that supports the file format may be missing, or the file may be open in another application" I tried opening other idmls that I knew were not corrupted and I recieved the same message. I checked the plugins, they are all enabled.  I quit all other programs, no luck.  I restarted the macbook, no luck again.  Could I recieve some help?  My Indesign cs4 is fully updated and Im having all these problems.

I have good news, and bad news.
The good news is that the file opens correctly here in both CS5.5 and CS4. The bad news is that means there's a problem with your CS4.
I would start out by trashing your preferences. It's fast, easy to do, and not overly destructive, and if you are lucky it will even solve the problem, but I wouldn't put the odds of success at more than 50/50. See Replace Your Preferences
Do you have a Time Machine backup? If you do, the next thing I would try is restoring the InDesign application folder from a time before the problem started.
If all else fails, it's probably time to bite the bullet and break out the installer. First try running a "repair" install on top of what's there. If that, too, fails, then I would uninstall CS4, run the CS5 clean tool (which can also clean up CS4 -- see Resolve installation problems with CS5 Cleaner Tool), then restart the computer and reinstall. If you have any customized stuff you should make copies of things like shorcut sets and workspaces that you can put back as explained in the thread on resetting the prefs.

  • Indesign CS4 will not launch in Windows Vista

Indesign CS4 will not launch but all other CS4 programs will in Windows Vista, has been worked perfectly up until mid february, I have spent two weeks dealing with Adobe support, and finally I ran “Windows Installer Clean Up” and restarted as requested on phone call to adobe today, then ran “WinCS4Cleanupscript” which inform me that it was clean (or words to that effect) and restarted. Did new install of CS4, at registration I noticed that the Reg Form was pre filled and with my preferences which was a bit strange. After all that Indesign still does not launch but is running. Please can anyone help.

This is the earlier thread http://forums.adobe.com/message/2621367#2621367
I think the onus is on Rapport to sort its software to prevent it interfering with other applications, and there is a post in that thread that indicates that Rapport is both aware of the problem and is working to overcome it.
I would hope that Adobe itself would have picked up this problem by at least monitoring this forum, but other than adding it to the knowledgebase for its technical support, which I don't expect is an overnight thing to do, I can't see what else it would be expected to do.
Perhaps if anyone from Adobe is monitoring this problem they could chime in here and let us know what the position is. I strongly suspect that Trusteer may have been the reason I couldn't get InDesign to run under Windows 7, and so I rolled the whole shooting match back to XP. I am planning to reinstall W7 with the knowledge that I may have to toggle Trusteer on and off to run InDesign, but it would be helpful to have some assurance from either party that a fix is on its way.
In the previous thread the Rapport response implied there was reference to the problem on its FAQ page. If there is I can't find it.
