  • I demand news for FiOS

    Location
I live right in that area, and if you look on the map you see an area that says fresh creek. FiOS support starts right about there, and it continues to go to the left of it. I'm sick and tired of just being in the dark and telling me to wait until FiOS is availible. I want to know when  is the approximate date for it to arrive. There has to be some supervisor I can talk to that can tell me this. The service is so **bleep** close, so I don't see why {edited} it is not availible yet.

I understand I should be happy about it coming at all, but in about a year and a half i'll be going away to college, and it won't even matter if FiOS is in NYC to me anymore. It would have been a great thing to have before I went away to an area that probably doesn't even know what Verizon is.

  • All Apple updates time out. But through a VPN, it's fine!

Something might be wrong with Verizon Fios in the NYC area. Since last night, any download from Apple times out. Also http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ reports a speed of less than 1Mbps. Connected to a VPN and everything worked normally. Verizon support guy said nothing was wrong, but someone please tell me why this is happening?
    thanks

I've experienced the same problem here in Massachusetts.  At first I thought it was an Apple problem, but then I tried downloading iOS 8 via cellular and found it to be orders of magnitude faster than my FIOS 75/75 network despite speedtest showing full speed capability!
I then tried downloading from Apple through my company's VPN on my home computer (same computer, same physical network as my FIOS setup) and was able to download iOS in about 8 minutes (about 7mb/sec) versus 11-12 kb/sec without the VPN.
This is outrageous for a supposedly high-speed network.  Does anyone from Verizon monitor this forum?  I'm reluctant to get involved with a level 1 support call on this, as it's clearly not a problem at my end.

  • FIOS NYC FIOS 1 Update and others ?? October 2009 Update

Any one know about if FIOS1 will have a channel in NYC ? Im tiold the end of the year , anyone have an update ?
I hear FIOS Digital Voice will launch in NY on Sept 30 .
Awaiting also news on MSG HD and MSG + HD and whether or not it will be on FIOS and will be a factor of me going back to Verizon or staying with Time Warner Cable as I await their Mobile services for NY in 2010 .
Already have VOIP with TWC, 4 NY RSN HD, NY 1, NY 1 (Staten Island Programming) and Staten Island Local Programming . Missing is mobile

It has definitely nothing to do with the card. As I said, I had successfully imported all photos from the camera in mid October, added locations, watched a diashow and published an album of that event on MobileMe.
One thing I remember: Two weeks ago I had the MacBook at a friend's place, importing a couple of photos just for a diashow. After the show I closed the MacBook (very likely) without quiting iPhoto and put it back into the bag. Maybe the library got corrupted at this point? Maybe iPhoto was still writing data during the shutdown, or something.
For documentaion sake: I have deleted the corrupted album in Photo yesterday. Emptying the trashbin afterwards made iPhoto (and eventually the entire OS) freezing again, so I had to manually kill and restart iPhoto. After restarting iPhoto the trashbin contained a couple of placeholders and photos of the corrupted album. Emptying the trashbin worked fine the second time.
How can I check the entire library for data integrity?
Why on earth is the entire OS freezing for minutes when Finder is trying to read a corrupted image file? There should be presented an error message to the user immediately.

  • Request FIOS - NYC - there's service in building next to me!

    Hello,
I'm moving into an NYC apartmett at {edited for privacy}.  The FIOS map http://communities.verizon.com/fiosavail/ shows most of the area is wired for FIOS already.  Can we get fios in our building, and if yes, how long would it take?
I've been a FIOS customer for 5+ years now and pay for it at two other locations (Bronx and Ewing, NJ).  REALLY don't want to get TWC.
    Thank you much!

  • Will upper west side NYC ever get FIOS?

Will the upper west side ever get FIos? I have been waiting years to get Fios and i've tried to contact a enginer but they never called me back. One last thing is verizon trying to still get fios to all of New York by summer 2014?

Welcome to the forums.  You're talking to other customers here.  All any of us know about Verizon's plans to expand FiOS is what they've publicly announced.  In other words, nothing.  You may be able to get information from your local government representative, especially given Verizon's deals in NYC.  I'm not in NYC, so I've no knowledge.
If you do get it, I'm sure you'll be quite happy with the Internet service.  I have triple play, and have no complaints with the service.  Verizon is very good at adjusting their prices and packages to keep pace with the market, which means if you don't keep a close eye on your bill you may find out you're not getting the best deal possible.
    Good Luck.

  • FRANCE 24 FIOS NYC

NOW THAT WNYJ NO LONGER CARRIES FRANCE 24... IS THERE A DEAL FOR FRANCE 24 TO BE ON FIOS IN NYC OR WILL THERE BE A SUBCHANNEL CARRYING IT...
    ANYONE HAS ANY IDEA?
    Thanks...

Just for the record Verizon has no control over what WNYJ puts on the air.  And what would Verizon sue about? Please provide facts and sources... not angry rants.  Do you think Verizon execs sit around a room and think about how could they possibly upset their customers?
Never ascribe to malice that which can be explained by incompetence
Take a look at http://www.wnyj.org/programming/402-france24-on-wnyj for the facts. France TV was moved by WNJ to a digital sub channel. Verizon is not obligated by law to carry sub channels, but Verizon is required by law to carry the main channel.
Complain to WNJ ([email protected]) since they made the decision to move FranceTV.  Verizon does not have to but will probably add the FranceTV subchannel as has been done with all the other digital sub channels.
BTW the channel is free for anyone to watch OTA , from a Roku or a PC. See http://www.france24.com/en/livefeed/

  • Trying to get fios since it came out in NYC... Need advice

I live in the Financial District in Manhattan, NY and I have been trying to get FIOS for three years now, with no luck... I call in every few weeks and still no availability, I just get the typical 6 - 12 months response from VZ I have been getting for 3 years.
A year ago, the building across the street from me got FIOS. I called to let VZ know and see if I could get it too. They said that because it wasnt on my block, it wouldnt help me in my neverending quest to get FIOS.
A month ago, a building right next door (on the same block, about 5 feet from my front door) just was finished being built, and they have FIOS available to their residents, built into the building.... Yet when I call VZ, they still say it is unavailable to me, even though though my neighbor has it.
You would think VZ would be trying to expand their coverage as much as they can, yet whenever I call customer service to inquire about getting FIOS, I feel like I just get put on hold for an hour and I dont end up any closer to my goal.
Since my new neighbor (we even share a wall) has FIOS, does anyone have any advice on how I could get it? Getting FIOS seems to be almost as difficult as dealing with TWC...
    Thanks all

Are you in a Multiple Dwelling Unit (condo/apartment)?
If so, VZ can not install FIOS in your building until your landlord/HOA signs two agreements.
If you landlord/HOA has not been contacted by FIOS, they can get in touch here:

    Danl,
I have great news for you!  We reached out to the engineering group in that area and they reported that they are currently already planning the rollout for 2nd quarter of 2010.  So I'm not sure what you're situation is over there, but if you can just hang in there another few months you will be able to experience those blazing FiOS speeds!!!  lol
    Hope this info helps!

  • NYC Apartment FIOS Triple Play Install

I'm in a NYC apartment building.  Do you think the field tech that comes out to do the install will be OK with the following?
Currently, I have a coax cable that comes from the hallway, through my wall next to the front door, into my apartment.  But to bring the fiber in, I'd like a new hole drilled maybe 6 inches or so away from the coax so that it comes through into a closet I have right near the door.  This way, I can have the fiber feed to the ONT that I'd like mounted on the inside of the closet wall.  My phone line also comes in through the floor in this closet.
I have no electrical outlet in my closet.  But there is one just outside the wall where I want the ONT mounted.
I was thinking of putting a power strip in my closet and having the tech drill a hole through the wall where my outlet is.  I also want the Actiontec router to remain in the closet since it is pretty big and I will be using my own router on my desk next to that wall.
So the hole through the closet wall needs to be big enough to fit:
    - a power cord (and 3-prong plug) from the power strip
    - ethernet cable which will go to my router
    - coax cable which will need to connect to my existing coax that goes to my cable boxes
The power strip in the closet can then be used to plug in the ONT and the Actiontec.
Will the field tech be able to do this?  Or am I screwed?
    Thanks.

If the ONT must be installed within your apartment, then necessarily the fiber cable must also terminate within your apartment (at the ONT, of course).  It is therefore up to the VZ tech to make the install conform to requirements.  If there is space at your structured wiring panel, the ONT will go there.
Whether the install can meet your cosmetic requirements regarding concealed wiring is impossible to answer a priori.  Depends on your layout and the route that the fiber must follow to get to your flat.  My experience with VZ install techs is quite positive. They made a real effort in my case to meet my requirements (electrical and cosmetic).  There are photos of my install elsewhere on this forum.

  • FIOS not good ISP for gaming in North East, bad routing to canada and west coast.

    http://forums.verizon.com/t5/FiOS-Internet/Keep-getting-kicked-out-of-game-MechWarrior-Online/m-p/66...
Yes the same thing has been happening to me. It also appears it was a problem back in january according to this thread....
    http://forums.verizon.com/t5/FiOS-Internet/Routing-Latency-issues/m-p/525091/highlight/true#M34574
Here is a past MWO thread started at the same time by a verizon customer.   I believe almost all of thise users have quit fios or quit MWO.
      http://mwomercs.com/forums/topic/91680-higher-ping-times-after-patch/page__st__80
Many people in the game believe its due to MWO patches,  but I think thats just a placebo.  I believe it is to do with the cold winter months and verizon not being able to handle the load.    Speedtests to any west coast, specifically vancouver server,  have the same results.
I have called verizon, gone to live chat, spoken to many different supervisors and technicians and have gotten no help with this issue.  They basically tell me its not their problem.
After doing many traceroutes and speedtests.   It appears I am  getting routed through europe to get to canada from NY, which just doesn't make any common sense. First verizon claims the link router sending us to europe is not owned by them. Then we have to prove to them that it in fact is with public business records and WHOIS reports. Which also seemed to be the case for others in that thread back in january.
IT seems the issue in january might of been that particular router was geting overloaded  they might have fixed the circuit on that verizon link/border router in question. But now it seems the issue has been passed up the line to the next link router and now that next circuit up the line  is getting congested.
Below you can see some traceroutes when I am receiving the bad ping:

Going from 20 ping to 100 depending on time of day,  which seems to 24 hours a day now!   is a real tease and frustrating, and when there is packet loss or excessive spikes, thats when we lose the connection,  session lost messages,  black screen issue...etc...
When reading that past thread,  The problem server back in january was tinet-gw.customer.alter.net [152.179.72.122]  (the one that routes us through europ)   but now it seems the burden has been passed up the chain to the next link/border router and circuit   internap-gw.ip4.tinet.net [77.67.70.94].
Maybe the guys back in january were able to pressure verizon to increase bandwidth on the tinet circuit on tha verizon router in NY because they actually owned that server,  even though they originally tried to lie and claim they didn't.  Even if not part of FIOS,  and after the 6th hop.    Its obvious it was theirs cause it ends with alter.net,  was right here in NYC,    WHOIS reports gave verizons email,  and business records show they bought it in 2006.
Fios doesn't contact DSL,  residential doesn't contact business...etc..  Its like this company doesn't remember how 9/11 happened!!!
BUt Now the burden is on the the next link router  which routes to internap.  And that is a german server and part of tinet.net and is a different company that verizon does not have direct access to.    Verizon would not even email  the admin for me,  which many feel is unprofessional.
You can try emailing that admin yourself or doing some trace routes your self and calling and pressuring verizon to address the issue themselves.
It seems verizon fios can't handle routing people to canada,  especially in the cold months of the year.  They must not be able to handle their load.   It seems verizon fios is really a scam,  and fiber optics is just a pretty name,  but in reality is no different then any other network,  except locally.    The only difference we need to look at when buying bandwidth,  is pricing period.  The fact it is fiber optics means diddly squat!  And the more people that get fios,  i predict the worse their network is going to get.
I have sent an email to the admin of that german server  {edited for privacy}  but I would be shocked if I got any reply.  Ridiculous for verizon to suggest I do that in the first place.
People with timer warner in the same area  are getting constant 20-40 ping to MWO,  while verizon fios customers are getting terrible connections right now.

What you are seeing here has nothing at all to do with what your speed is. Latency has nothing to do with speed, it has to do with distance and network congestion. Your local ISP, no matter who it is, can not directly affect how another company (in your case Internap Network Services Corporation) routes data. Now if there was a problem in a link directly connected to your local ISP, for example:
    4 94 ms 12 ms 10 ms ae0-0.NY325-BB-RTR2.verizon-gni.net [130.81.209.110]
    5 9 ms 15 ms 12 ms 0.so-4-0-1.XT2.NYC4.ALTER.NET [152.63.10.29]
    *from your tracert
The above link is leaving Verizon local control and entering Alter.Net control, if there was latency on a regular basis there then this should be reported to Verizon as your local ISP and that will filter up to their NOC group who will contact Alter.net and figure out the issue with that link. If the issue is a faulty link it will get fixed, if the issue is a link undergoing to much traffic its ability to handle the traffic will either be increased where possible or routed around where possible. The whole issue of peer-to-peer networking is very complex (which is what the Supreme Court was reviewing by the way) and a number of issues come into play. If the connection point only experiences high traffic sometimes on a very limited basis then generally routing some traffic to different connections is what is done.
Now in your later postes you show the following:
    8 38 ms 39 ms 39 ms xe-8-2-0.tor10.ip4.tinet.net [141.136.107.98]
    9 100 ms 104 ms 103 ms internap-gw.ip4.tinet.net [77.67.70.94]
    10 97 ms 99 ms 98 ms border1.te7-1-bbnet1.tor001.pnap.net [70.42.24.132]
    11 103 ms 103 ms 96 ms relay-1.mwtactics.com [70.42.29.65]
That clearly shows the problem is inside the tinet.net (Internap Network Services Corporation) network. This network is also the network providing the link into this game server. What does this tell us? From what you are seeing it tells us that either Internap does not have enough bandwidth to server the amount of traffic down to this server or the game company has not purchased a high enough link. The latter is unlikely. Most likely the issue is that Verizon's Fios product is growing with more and more people are trying to reach that game from the Fios network. This causes issues at the link point, which Verizon apparently has taken steps to fix as well as those internal links going down to the game servers. Now your local ISP (Verizon) cannot help the latter half of that. One can hope the end user ISP (in your case Internap Network Services Corporation) will increase their internal bandwidth or router traffic around problem areas.

When fully rebooted, Reboot(restart) again. Then go to your Flash folder and open it. It must be empty, no files whatsoever. If it is, then RUN the Installer for IE, when finished Reboot Once. Then RUN the Installer for Firefox and when finished, Reboot Once. NOW IF the Flash folder is not completely empty, then you will RUN the Uninstaller again and Reboot, then check the Flash folder again. Don't RUN the Installers until the Flash folder is empty.
When finished, Check IE add ons for the SWO, and FF for the SWF. Both will be listed, vs 10.0.45.2 and enabled.
Then go here to test: http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about
If you have any questions before beginning, please post. When you have done the test, then check your websites and see if they are working properly.

  • Is anyone using Pilot Fiber in NYC?

It's similar to Verizon FiOS. Fiber optic but not dedicated fiber. We have customers that have looked into Pilot but never pulled the trigger. It's a no brainer compared to TWC, but you won't get the same performance as a dedicated fiber circuit. I do believe they offer enterprise/dedicated but not at the same cost that they advertise.Plus, in NYC, A GIG for $1000 is not all that great - even for dedicated fiber. 100M starts around $300/mo in some cases. What are you looking for exactly? PM me with questions and if you want to review all your options. We are a telecom master agency partnered with 250+ carrier/ISP's around the globe. We do this for Spice Community all day every day.You can also request help on our website: www.commquotes.com/spiceworks and read our SpiceHead reviews here --CommQuotes Spice Reviews

Just curious but really interested....almost looks too good to be true.

  • Fios 1 in New York City

Hi. I live in Queens Village, NY. I signed up to Verizon 3 years ago. I was told at the time that Verizon 1 which is a local channel based in Long Island would be included. After installation, I had no Verizon 1. The channel is offered on the Verizon mobile app, in Brooklyn which is in the opposite direction and in some areas in Queens. I live 3 minutes from Elmont, Long Island and can not understand why It's not offered to viewers in my neighborhood. Please look into fixing this problem.
