FIOS Battery Backup Unit - Typical Lifespan ONE YEAR? Replacing with rechargeable

I am replacing our BBU for the 3rd time in as many years.  I do not mind replacing it but I would think the battery should last longer unless there is something that is drawing off of it.  I do not remember having that many power outages this past year and the fact that they all seem to quit after 12 months is a bit suspicious.   Is this the typical lifespan for these batteries?
Also, I am replacing it this time with a rechargeable, hoping I can get a bit more life out of it.  Has anyone had any luck with using a rechargeable?
Thanks,
Kevin

The battery should not fail that fast.  If it does you are using the wrong battery or have a defective BBU.  Since you said you are going to replace it with a rechargeable battery this time, my guess is you have been using the wrong battery.  The recommended battery is a 12-Volt 7.2 Ah SLA Sealed Lead Acid battery, which is a rechargealbe battery.    The Verizon provided model is a GT12080-HG.
Check out Amazon for the best prices.  There is no advantage to buying it from Verizon and it will cost more.  (Verizon even states that you can buy it at other outlets.)

I am wondering if the fios battery backup is okay with generator power.  I have a generac whole house generator and I have one ups that is fine with it and a smaller one that does not like the power it puts out.
Wondering if the fios ups will work with it or keep going on and off house power during an outage.
Also, does the fios backup keep every fios service running?  I realize the stb's need another power supply.

Does Verizon offer an option where they back up the internet service as well?  It just seems silly to back up one UPS with another.  It's hard to imagine that this option wouldn't be available for business customers.
No, the BBU is only intended for the phone system. The thought behind that was that if power went out, then your computers and TV's would not have power to run (not considering laptop batteries) so there would be no need for internet and video to work if the power was out. And with only having to power the phone, the power draw is low enough to make a battery feasible. If it had to power the internet and video as well, that battery would have a significantly lower life expantcy. And many areas of the country require the phone to work for a certain amount of time which is one of the reasons for the battery in the first place. Adding the other services to that list would lower the battery life enough to violate the reqirements for the phone to work. Hence, the bbu only powers the tv/internet for 5 minutes after the power goes out, then it drops the internet/video to save power for the phone.

  • Battery Backup Unit Nonsense. I'm not paying for your problems!

I may have to get rid of my service. These "Jackies" want me to pay $40 for a battery for THEIR battery backup unit that was installed in my apartment before I moved in over 2 years ago. I refuse to pay for your equipment's problems. This is ridiculous. Anyone else have this problem?  Customer service sucks in this company.

I found it online at amazon for 12 bucks and shipping.   12 V 8 AH sealed lead acid battery with an f2 connector
I know you probably don't want to hear it's in the Terms of service, but it is.

To replace your phone's screen costs $109US and I don't see why having Apple replace the screen would void your warranty.

  • List of transactions executed in the last one year along with the count

    Hi all,
I want to find the list of transactions executed in the last one year in my IDES system. Also, i want to find how many times these transactions got executed in the last one year.
I already saw, ST03 and ST03N tcodes. But im not able to see the correct result there.
Could anyone tell me whether SM21 or ST03N tcode will be useful for finding the total number of transactions get executed in the last one year and the number of times these got executed..
If anyone of this useful for my exact requirement, then what are all the correct inputs need to be passed to these transaction?
When i see the MONI table, i find that it gets stored with some cluster key. How the data from this table will be usefiul for my requirement?
Or, is there any standard reports available for finding this count?
    Thanks,
    Shanthi

    Hi Michael,
    Thanks for ur reply.
I have few more clarifications in this.
When i click the "Standard" transaction profile, it shows a list of dialog pgms and the number of steps. But this count is different from the count which i get it from "Early Watch".
For example, the "Standard" didn't display the SE38 transaction code for a specific week which i selected. Whereas, "Early watch" displays the SE38 transaction.
So, which count is correct actually?. What do "standard" and "Early watch" represent?
Also, i executed a Z transaction today(13.03.2009). But im not able to select today (No application server is avaliable to select for today's date). So how can i check what are all the transactions executed today and how many times this Z transaction executed today, from this transaction.
    Please help me...
    Thanks,
    Shanthi

  • 3 cracks in 3 years replaced with a 3 year warranty!!!

    Dear Ms./Sir,
I am a university student and in 2007 I have bought my very first laptop ever, a white Macbook. I love my laptop. It's fast, it's convenient. The design is slick and thin, fits anywhere and it's light. However, since I bought it I realized that regular Microsoft laptops have sturdy cases but their software falls apart. In the case of a MacBook, excellent software but the case falls apart. This is ridiculous. I am a big fan of Apple products and have bought many as presents as well in the past. I avidly recommended and still am to friends and family. However with the case cracking constantly and in constant need of replacement I am definitely over thinking my loyalty to Apple in the future.
Mid 2008 I notice the first crack on the right side of the board. Having a 3 year warranty through Apple Care I was able to replace it at no cost. I hoped that it wouldn't happen again and made sure that I used it lightly and very carefully to avoid another crack. Early 2009 another crack, same place. Replaced it again at no cost. This time I decided not to even take it to school anymore and was really really careful with it. November 2009, not even a year later another crack in the SAME spot. This is ridiculous. 3 cracks in 3 years. My warranty ends in January next year. I don't have the money to spent on replacement every time this happens after my warranty expires.
So I would like to know what can Apple do for a loyal fan like me?
I really don’t want the cracking to keep happening, since I don’t have the money to keep repairing it.
    Regards,
    Dorothea

As Templeton said, you will not get a response from Apple here. We're all just fellow users.
I'd suggest calling Apple tech support and asking to speak with Customer Relations. When you get a CR representative on the line, calmly explain the situation and express your concerns about yet another case failure should they just replace the case yet again. I can't make any sort of promises - again, I don't work for Apple so I can't speak for them - but the CR representative may be able to work out something, ideally a replacement of the unit with a new model of MacBook.
    Good luck.

  • Additional FiOS Voice Battery Backup for I-211-M-K

I understand that the battery backup for the phone lasts about 8 hours.  That is not enough for a significant blackout.  Can I order an additional battery backup unit?
I have the small desktop version of the ONT.  The model is I-211-M-K.  So I would need the battery backup unit that goes with this.  Is this available to purchase?  I don't see why it shouldn't be.  If a customer wants more hours of backup time in case of an emergency, then we should be able to have it.
    Thanks.

Good evening. You can call our battery replacement center at 877-503-3537 to get an additional batteries.

  • I don't have phone, but the TV says I need to replace battery backup for phone?!?!?!

    Hello,
For three years, we've had Verizon Fios Internet and TV.  We've never had a phone.
Today, the contraption Verizon plugged in the wall (sadly, I'm not really sure what it is, and had forgotten it existed until today as it's tucked behind some furniture) started beeping and the replace battery indicator light is on.  Furthermore, when I turn on TV, I am greeted with this message:
    My questions are:
    (1) If I don't have phone service, why would I even have a battery backup (much less need to replace it) to allow phone service during power outages?
    (2) Since I have only internet and TV, can I safely go without replacing this battery?
    (3) If the answer to #2 is yes, then how do I get the thing in the wall to stop beeping every 30 minutes?
Thank you in advance to any responses.

You can unplug the battery in your optical network terminal (ONT) and the message needing to replace the battery will go away.  Verizon customer service did confirm the battery is only for phone service when power is off.
I was only able to find 3 links on the alarm / battery backup.  It looks like they never thought about people who did not want the phone feature and to silence the beeping with the battery removed?
I don't know how frequently my unit beeps, but I don't normally hear it because it is in my garage.  I don't know if it has a pattern to when it beeps; but when I'm in the garage, I sometimes hear a single loud beep for about 1 second.
I imagine the battery must enable the laser to function when the power is off besides supply power to the copper phone lines in your house for a line powered phone.  I would assume then that if one had a UPS to power the computer and router and a good battery in the BBU; then one could have an internet when the power is off too?  Verizon user manuals don't mention this, so it might not work?

  • Battery Backup light comes on for no apparent reason

Every so often the light on the battery backup unit (BBU) that indicates the unit is using battery power comes on even though there was no power failure and there is AC power to the unit.  The first time this happened I called FIOS tech support and they indicated that if the light was on, the unit was operating off of battery power even if AC power was available, and that I would need to reset the unit.  They then took me through the procedure for resetting the unit:
    1) Open the case to the BBU.
    2) Unplug the battery.
    3) Unplug the AC power.
    4) Wait at least 3 minutes.
    5) Plug the battery back in.
    6) Plug in the AC power.
This seems to do the trick and I assume it also resets the ONT.
    I have 2 questions:
    1) Why would the unit decide to operate off of battery power when there was AC power available and there had been no loss of AC power to begin with?
    2) Is it true that if the battery light is on the unit is operating off of battery power even in the presence of AC power?
Any thoughts on these question would be appreciated.

  • Battery backup problems during hurricane?

I'm wondering if folks lost FiOS phone service during the hurricane because their power failed and the FiOS battery backup ran out after eight hours. If so, what probelms did this cause: i.e. being unable to reach 911 or to check on relatives and friends.
Did you anticipate losing phone service? Were you able to use cell phone instead? Did the battery on that run out too?
    Thank you!

Just had a CHAT LIVE session about battery backup box beeping.
    Was told
"The battery only has a year warranty. Outside the year warranty we can no longer offer replacements. You could order a replacement here: https://fios.asurion.com or you may find a better option at a local hardware/battery store. "
Andrea T(07:27:44): where is the battery? did not know I could OPEN your equipment.
Josh(07:28:14): It is usually in a closet, basement or garage. Josh(07:28:19): You can open the battery backup box
If you follow the link, the battery is $46. This is my phone's backup battery not the battery in my SAAB! OMG Why not use a lithium that is easily found at any supermarket or drugstore?
Were you aware that we need to maintain VZ equipment every year?

  • One Year Warrantee Repair

I have a 24" T V (24L4200U) under the one year warrantee with no picture.
Unfortunately, I can't carry the T V to an authorized repairshop (large city - San Diego) as I expected.
Sear's will not help.  Next time I will buy at Costco where I expect they would replace the T V.
Anyway, the question is whether to pay the $50 or so to ship to Maine for Toshiba Service, and
be withour a T V for some time   OR   should I pay for the repair myself.
Has anyone paid for a T V "no picture" repair???

If you are refering this to Apple, you have come to a wrong place, as this is a user to user support. Apple does not read this discussions here. If you have a complaint about the poor service you have, you may have to contact Apple CS.

  • HT1766 Has anyone found a protocol that allows the 4S to operate beyond one year and to preserve battery life on this phone?

Please advise me as to any method to restore a 1 year old 4S, keep apps from crashing or disappearing. and to reserve battery life?  Information on WiFi malfunction would also be greatly appreciated. Sprint is unfortunately my carrier and I suspect a lot of resources are overtaxed to maintain connection.  Any advice for this phone, or do I just need to upgrade to a model with new reception technology?  Thank you.

Thank you, Chris, for the optimistic reply!  In terms of self-resolve I have done everything, including restore to original- to accomplish this I had to re- install Win 7 on a low use machine, as it could not be done with 8.1 Pro- attempt made with Apple advanced tech who also was unsuccessful at even getting the phone to restore with 8.1.  I was going, with lots of time and assistance from the tech, to send in for a replacement, until I made one last try with older workstation and without using backup- didn't want to inherit old problems.  The phone worked fine for a month or so and then reverted to the problems above.  Wi-Fi is not greed out, but won't connect to some sites and 3G is usually faster and more reliable - on the phone, not computers.  My data measured usage of data has spiked, I guess that is related to struggling for a Sprint connection.  Battery life is rapidly degrading, was okay after restore.
Upgrade thinking was to improve antenna technology. I have owned, personally and as a company, over 50 iPhones. I have loved them, but can't seem to get a straight answer from Apple on this one; which makes me consider options.  Has anyone resolved similar problems with the 4G?  Fix, wait for 6, switch carriers or switch manufacturers?  Is Apple switching it's focus to mass market, cheaper and less expensive?

  • Battery damaged after just one year of use

I am a medical student residing in hostel.I bought my Lenovo3000N100 notebook in feb'2007.After just one year of very minimal usage, the notebook battery has failed and now requires replacement.
How can such a company as lenovo's battery expire after 1 yr of use of maybe just 1-2 hours of running time per day or even less???
Even companies like ACER n HP have given better performance of their batteries which my roomates are using 3years n 2 years running n still working fine without any complains to date.
This battery problem has created a negative publicity for lenovo in my hostel and now nobody in my hostel or acquaintance wants to buy a lenovo product seeing my condition.
