FIOS cable box Error

I have a fios box - motorola QIP2500-3 - and the display says "Err4".  I tried turning it off and on as well as unplugging it but the error wont go away.  What is this error and how do I fix it?
Thanks!

That is an eb code, yours is an err code, which is probably just an updated boot error code, in either case it may not be one you can recover by yourself.    you can try to verify that you don't have anything obstructing the flow of data communications between that box and the fios network, meaning re-tighten the coax cables and verify that you're getting a signal in that room (maybe bring a working box over to make sure that room isn't dead)      other than that though, if you verify that you're getting good coax communication then you may be ready for a new cable box.

I currently have FIOS in my home, but I hate paying rent on the box forever.  If I purchase a Verizon's FIOS cable box, HD version, would it work in my home ?  I heard it needs to be activated ?

And Monkey68 before you say you can get one on EBay - those are most likely stolen and will not be activated by Verizon.

  • Sync AV on Multiple FIOS Cable Boxes??

I am trying to set up multiple cable boxes in different rooms that are near each other, so that when I want to display different programs in different rooms, I can, but when I want to have the same program running on all boxes, they will display the program in perfect sync with each other. What I am finding is that, sometimes they are in sync, and sometimes they are off by 4-5 seconds. All FIOS boxes are running cable to the box with HDMI to the viewing source. Any ideas of how to fix the out-of-sync issue or otherwise accomplish what I am trying to do? Thanks!

I'm not sure how Verizon can correct this issue.
Delays can be introduced by hardware utlization (DVR with only 1 remote is going to react differently than with 4) or network delays (type of coax, length of run between remote and VMS).
I had a similar issue with old DVR and STBs. DVR would buffer the signal as it was recording and playing.
Not sure why Quantum shouldn't be any different.

  • Error message AE5 in cable box?

Cable went out on oll three tv's, there's a message on a black screen that says 'if you want to watch Verizon Fios, press menu, otherwise turn off TV.', but when we press 'menu' on the verizon remotes, this appears on the cable box where the channel selectionhad been: AE5. Can anyone tell me what this means?
    Thanks

I'm seeing the same thing.  While watching TV, picture and sound died and all boxes showed AE5, came back briefly after several minutes, then went back to AE5.  After 10 minutes or so, I tried unplugging the power cord, then re-plugging.  The box went through its diags, then came up with a display of "----" with picture and sound that appeared to be channel 2.  I then tried hitting the channel up button and the box turned off.  I hit the power button and it comes back on with display "----" with no picture or sound.
I tried the same process with the DVR box (power cycle, etc.).  When I hit the power button now, it just shows a logo on the screen with the message "Starting Up... One Moment Please."  This message remains many, many moments later.
So Verizon, can you tell us what's going on here?

  • FiOS Triple Freedom and cable boxes

I was under the impression(From talking to the local seller) That the bundle would be 99.99 for the 2 years and they would not charge me monthly for the 2 cable boxes I origanally said I needed. That this would be included. I have been being charged and I was wondering if I just mis-interpreted. I just want to be sure before I call, does nayone have a clue?
    Thanks

I guess it would depend on whether there was some special being offered in your area. The standard package is for the Triple Freedom to include phone, internet, and TV, but no STBs are included in that package. I have the Triple Freedom on a two year plan and I pay separately for my STBs.

  • How to hook up a magnavox dvdr to fios dvr box?

Hi, new to the forum and tried to find the answer... but can't quite find it. I have a cheapy magnavox ZC320MW8. I don't care at all to use the recording function. All I want to do is play the kids' DVDs. I'm not up on all the technical terms for various cables but I've tried using an s-video cable and also the one with the 3 different plugs on it (red, white, yellow - not sure what that's called).
I'm also at a disadvantage as the player was a floor model so we got no manual or original remote.
The TV is not HD - it's an old Zenith (I can post the model number if that helps but would need to putt the TV out to get it). I have the remote for that and for the Fios box. I'm not sure what buttons to select (DVD, AUX, etc) to get this to work.
I think I've read that the S-video cable needs to go from the 'video out' port into the s-video port in the Fios box. Is this correct? Do I also need the other cable (for audio?).
Sorry to seem such a Luddite. One of these days I'll have a bit more cash and be able to upgrade to some quality equipment!

You could hook up the cable box using the the coax cable (going from rf out on the cable box into the TV and changing the TV to channel 3 for FiOS) then hook up the DVD player using the  existing red/white/yellow cables.

  • Connecting a 23 inch monitor to comcast HD cable box

    Hi folks
I just got a 23 inch monitor and I am interested to know if anyone has used the display to output video from a cable box. I have a female DVI to HDMI connector and the cable box has an HDMI port. Is there anything else I should worry about?
    thanks!
12 inch powerbook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   23 inch apple display

I have not tried this myself with my 20" cinema display but when I tried it with a viewsonic monitor I had problems with the Digital Copy Protection system they use on the HDMI/DVI ports on the cable boxes to prevent people from copying the video. I do not know if the Apple display has HDCP support or not. If it does it should work fine, otherwise your get an error message on the screen telling you there is a DCP error. Either way if you already have the cables give it a try it won't hurt your monitot. Note that if you get a DCP error (or no display) when you connect the HDMI cable restart the cable box with the monitor attached to see if that works.

  • Splitting for Cable Box and Router

Okay so heres the situation. Right now in my room there is only one cable connection in my wall. That was used to connect my small TV box (not the huge HD box, just the secondary ones that get put in several rooms) so I could watch FIOS in my room. The router for the wireless in my house was right down the hall plugged into the wall and running smoothly. Now i would like to bring the router into my room, except there is only one connection. I have a splitter from verizon, and have tried connecting both the cable box and the router using it. The cable still works perfect when i do this, but the router only turns on and wont allow me to connect to the internet. I have tried resetting it and everything, but nothing works. Is there a reason this isn"t working, and any solution?
    Thanks,
    Jason

Are you sure that is a Verizon supplied splitter and not one the installer might have removed from a prior cable installation?
Verizon uses MOCA between the ONT and the router and between the router and the STBs.  MOCA operates at frequencies over 1Ghz and requires splitters rated to 1Ghz.  If that splitter is not rated 1Ghz, it won't pass the MOCA signals.
Check the splitter.  If you don't see any rating on it or it is rated upto 850Mhz, you need to replace it with a 1Ghz splitter.
If it is rated 1Ghz, then this isn't your issue.
What happens as a test if you leave the router where it is at and install the splitter in your room, leaving one tap empty.
Do VOD and widgets work on your STB?  i.e. can your STB get to the router through the splitter?
Try both taps.  One or both taps on the splitter could be bad.

  • Connecting Panasonic HD TVs to HD Cable box

I have 2 HD Panasonic TVS. I have tried to connect them to a Verizon 6200 Cable box. This does not have a DVR. When I connect using the HDMI connetion there is no picture or sound. If I connect these TVS to a HD CAble box with multi room DVR they connect.
I have contacted Panasonic and Verizon and have received little help.

This post belongs in the FiOS TV Technical Assistance board, but I will reply.
Need more information on your setup. What is your DVR box model?
Have you tried the 6200s with component cables? If so do they work?
Are the 6200 doxes connected directly HDMI to the TV?
I have heard of issues with HDMI and QIP-6xxx series boxes, and much has been done to resolve these issues with upgrades and changes to the img software. If you must have HDMI and the DVR is the QIP-7xxx series, you may want to see if you can get the QIP-6200 boxes upgraded. But it may be difficult to get both boxes replaced if component cables work.

  • Cable box turning itself off

A few times per night my cable box just randomly shuts off for no apparent reason then when I turn it back on it I get the FiOS loading screen. This is frustrating because many times I am in the middle of recording something. A lot of times I will be scrolling thru the guide or my DVR when it happens. Does anyone else get this or know what causes it?

Have you tried to power cycle your STB. Unplug it for 30 sec and re plug it in?

  • Remote doesn't program with TV, help using cable box volume

Hello, I have just had Fios installed in my home and my remote is not able to program with my TV. I have a Magnavox TV and it is old, The installer said that my TV is unable to be programmed with my remote which is why I am here. I have tried every opion in the Control manual to no success. The remote I have is a VZ P265v2 RC and the code for my TV brand is 222 (which doesn't work). I can live without the power opion and the others that come with it, but I need the volume to work since I do not have a remote for my televsion. So my question is, is there a way I can have my remote just use the cable box itself as a volume control without it being programed to the TV if you understand what i mean.
I apologize for the horrible sentences grammar and any confustion, I don't exactly know how to exsplain what I want. I know the Cable box has its own volume setting and the TV has its own volume setting, I want to be able to just use the cables to adjust the volume with the remote.
    ~Edit~
I have found the opion I want to use in the Audio settings called "Set-Top Box Volume", now is there a way I can bing this opion to my remote volume keys so I dont have to go into the settings each time to adjust the volume

It is set to variable in the audio option, and I assume its using Coax or component cables to connect the STB to the TV since the installer did it himself, and I honestly don't know what those are. I have a wire from my wall connected to my box and then the box is connected to the TV.
I also have multiple other boxes in my home that was just installed as well, and were able to be programmed for the TV using the remote, and the volume controls the actual TVs volume, not the STB volume which is in the opions. Thats the volume control in which I want to use//the only one I seem to be able to use via the control but its only accessable threw the opion and its quiet inconvient since differnt channels seem louder and quieter then each other.
So same question stands, is there a way to use the volume buttons on my Controler to use the STB Volume not the actual TV's. It is current set on variable, not fixed and still no go. And once again I have tried the command codes to program the remote and doesnt work, even tried using them all via pressing the <OK> and the FIOS TV buttons then holding the PLAY button for quiet a few minutes and still a no go.

  • HD TV and cable box

We purchases a new 32" LG television from best buy and brought it home to hook it up to the motorola dvr cable box provided to us by the cable company.  We're pretty low tech so it seems simple, the cable into the dvr, the hd cable from the dvr into the back of the new tv and both the tv and the cable box plugged into a surge protector (in other words, the tv is NOT plugged into the dvr box).  Things work well enough once you have everything on, but when the tv gets turned off, the dvr automatically powers down....all the way down....to a black screen.  Then, when you turn the tv on and wait a half minute or so, the cable box powers up, then goes black again, the the time comes on but there is no power.  At this point, you have to turn the power on the cable box.  After that you have to use the tv remote to switch the input from hd port 1 ( where the cable is plugged in) to hd port 2 (where there is no connection) then back to hd port 1 to get the tv to recognize the signal from the dvr.
I trouble shot some with the cable company this am and have an appointment for them to come check it out because they are stumped but I thought I would put it out there and see if anyone had any additional trouble shooting measures to try before the "cable guy" comes.

Don't be SO quick to knock the "low quality/Monster Cable" myth. Although it is not the case here, a low quality cable are more prone to failure. But still dang few and far between. I would rather buy 20 $5 dollar HDMI cables than 1 Monster Cable. But with digital it either works or it doesn't.
It COULD be a HDMI handshake error. But my first question is, do you have one remote programmed to control both your TV and DVR? For examply, my DirecTV box and TV in the guest room (basic setup) remote, is setup to send two separate IR commands when I hit the off button. One command to turn off the DVR and one to turn off the TV. If your setup is NOT like this then it sounds like a HDMI-CEC issue.
I would look into your DVR and/or TV settings and look for options called "HDMI Control" or similar and try turning it all off, and see if the problem still happens.

Two days ago my cable box just turned off by itself but the power button light was still on but now it also had a red exclamation mark on the front of the box. I tried taking out of the socket for a few hours and it didn't fix it, can someone help me with this issue please.

Use your remote and under menu, find 'check/fix set top box errors'. (or something like that).

  • Cable Box Keeps resetting only when computer is on.

My cable box keeps resetting when ever the computer is on. I get an LDR code on the box, resets, I have to press menu to get the cable back on and then the reset screen loads. It will continue to reset every 10 minutes or less until the computer is shut off. I can have other devices connected to the internet but it seems this is the only device that causes a problem. I have verizon fios. I have had a new box come to the house already and hooked it up, same problem occurs.
    Anyone have any suggestions?
    thanks.

I have never experienced that, with as many as 4 computers and a cellphone active on my FiOS network with three STBs also all active.
I wonder if perhaps you have that computer set to acquire a static IP Address from the FiOS router with an address of 192.168.1.1xx and that conflicts with the IP address used by the STB? The FiOS STBs by default acquire IP addresses starting at 192.168.1.100 and going up from there, depending on how many STBs you have, and computers, cellphones, etc. by default get their addresses via DHCP starting at 192.168.1.1. You can log into the router and see the various devices it sees with their IP addresses, and look in your system to see what IP address it has.
Sorry, but that is the only thing I can think of.

Did you try this while running a DE? Did you try disabling/enabling powersaving?
