FIOS is Super Slow on New Mac

Hi,
I'm a new Mac user, just switched to the new iMac G5 from a Win XP machine. Love the new Mac except my Internet connection is very slow. Here's the configuration:
FIOS is connected to a D-Link router (D-624 AirPlus Xstreme G Wireless Router).
A windows XP machine is attached by cable to the route (located on the first floor)
My Mac (located on the second floor) accesses the network via the internal AirPort card.
When we were a dual XP house, my PC accessed the wireless network via a belkin USB card and I had basically the same speed as the XP machine downstairs attached to the router.
With the Mac, AirPort recognizes the network, but the speed is slow. Any ideas on how to recapture the speed on the iMac and keep the D-Link router?
Would adding Airport Express to the Mac or attach it to the router help?
Or should I yank out the D-Link and replace it with an AirPort Extreme? If so, would the exisitng XP machine work with the AirPort router?
I think that's it. Thanks for your help.

Philip64, Welcome to the discussion area!
How is the signal strength at the iMac?
Have you tried connecting the iMac to the router via Ethernet to see if you get the speed that you expect? If so, would the exisitng XP machine work with the AirPort router?Yes the AirPort uses industry standard Ethernet and 802.11b/g to communicate.

Im running both Bridge CC (6.1.0.115) and CS6 on my New Mac Pro
the Bridge CC is obviously slower than Bridge CS6.
CC also very easy to get the spinning ball every click on Bridge CC, very annoying.
Also Im using Dell 4K monitor, If I load monitor size preview will be really slow, even on the New Mac Pro. is there any way We can set a specific size of the preview? which can speedup the preview loading

  • Render times very slow on new Mac Pro and Premiere CC

    Hi there
I have a brand spanking new Mac Pro  (specs below) working off a G Studio r 24 TB array. Rendering anything in Premiere is taking an age (2 minutes timeline is taking 30 minutes). I am cutting 4k Sony F5 footage (XAVC). I have done tests with 1080 material and this doesn't make any difference.
I have spoken to Adobe support and reset permissions plus all the basic workarounds suggested: but there has been no improvement. I was due a call back but have not heard anything.
Can anyone suggest a solution - i have several important deadlines coming up, and can't really deal with the downtime.
I understand 3rd party apps take longer, but even with PP effects, rendering is taking way too long: especially with a super fast system like this.

  • Premiere elements 13 very slow in new mac book pro

    Good Morning
I've just bought and installed premiere elements 13 in my new mac book pro (yosemite 10.10.2) 16gb RAM.
The program is going very slow and the user experience is terrific
I have also big problem with three -way color corrector: when apply this effect never change in image.
    Any suggestion?
Maybe there is big incompatibility with Yosemite?
    Thanks

  • Safari painfully slow on new Mac Mini

I know there have been a number of threads on this topic and I have tried all of the tricks listed but Safari is still painfully slow to load web pages. I have tested my internet connection and it is fine. The real interesting thing here is that when I boot up under Windows (using Boot Camp) web pages load blazingly fast under IE, so it seems unlikely that I have a hardware problem. I have also tried Firefox with similar results. I love this new machine but I am pulling my hair out over its browsing performance.
    Anyone have a (new) thought?

Please try a test account to see how Safari works
there, if you do not have an other user account,
Go to System preferences ->Accounts ->Login Options
Tried this and believe it or not the problem was worse!
se the [+] to create one, you can later use [-] to
    delete/remove the account.
Do you use a third party Firewall or one on your
    router ?
    No on both accounts
Do you use DHCP Lease ?
Yes, I hit the "renew lease" button which had no effect
In the Network ->TCP/IP tab do you have DNS # values
    entered in the
    DNS Servers box.
    No entries in the DNS
Proxies tab, do you have any proxies selected ? if
Yes how does Safari surf with out it ?
    No proxies selected
Let us know what your findings are.

I am going to try FireFox again and see if there are any things I can tweak that make it bearable.

  • IMovie & iDVD running much slower on new Mac Mini Duo

Please help with some feedback. From what I have have learned to this point of my research everything has pointed in the direction that my upgrade from my previous Mac (a 1.5 ghz G4 Powerbook) to the newest Mac Mini Core Duo (w/ upgraded 1GB of memory) would be a large improvement in overall performance.
I noticed the difference almost instantly with the new Mini.
However, going into some of the apps that I really need this box for, namely iMovie and iDVD I am noticing that the perfomance is just around half as fast as my old 1.5 G4 Powerbook.
Has anyone out there seen this or know why this is happening? I am under the impression from benchmarks that this new machine should be a great deal faster at rendering, etc.
Mac Min Core Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

In other things, it seems much MUCH improved.
A Mac pal of mine mentioned that perhaps they loaded
the PPC compiled version on it and its being
    interpolated through Rosetta.
    Would that be possible?
That's exactly what I thought when I read your post, but I can't see how that could have happened because the installer would detect the processor and install the right version.
That doesn't mean you can't run the installer again and make sure the right version is installed, and then check it out to see if that resolved it.

  • FCP render slow on new Mac pro?

New Macpro does not seem any faster than PPC Quad.
Today I had to render out a 2 hour 20 minute program to Apple TV codec and it took 3 hours.
The FCP window itself seems sluggish on Hide and launch.
I checked Activity monitor and it tells me CPU=180 Real Memory=252 and V Mem=1.73
I have no idea how to read an activity monitor- does the reading seem normal?
I am running on the latest Macpro 8 core 3.0 with 16 gigs of memory.
I was told this would be super fast.
Why doesn't FCP use more of the available memory?
I always hear people say- buy more memory, but it doesn't seem to be speeding things up.
    User error?

FCP is a 32 bit application and as such doesn't make use of anything over 2.5GB of ram. Once you add in the OS frameworks it really only can make use of 4GB total. Ram beyond 4GB is useful in Motion for RAM previews as well as running multiple applications but it isn't going to make FCP any faster.
If you want to speed up codec conversions use Compressor and learn how to set up virtual clusters. You can set up 4 in your machine and each will act as a singular instance of compressor all working together to speed things along.
    Good luck,
    x

  • FCP working slower on newer Mac

Recently upgreded from an old G5 Power PC to a 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5.
I am working in FCP 6.0.6 and it is actually working slower. I am getting pinwheels before playback that I never got before. Is there a setting I can adjust? Seems crazy that a hardware upgrade should set me back.
    Thanks!
    Scott

There are a lot of variables that go in to fcp performance and it's hard to diagnose problems from a distance.  When I upgraded from my dual 2.5 gig g5 to a macpro a year and a half ago, I saw a big improvement in performance.
Have you tried deleting your fcp preferences?
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2491

Do you have any peripherals connected besides a keyboard and mouse?  If so, try and disconnect them.

  • Lightroom 3 super slow on new Windows 7 64 bit...Why?

I've recently switched over to  Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium, running 8GB DDR3 RAM, 1GB ATI Radeon 4800  series video card, 1920px monitor and have found the performance in  Lightroom 3.4.1 much slower than I did on Windows XP, 32 bit running 2GB  of RAM with a 128MB motherboard card (laptop to boot).
Why  is this happening? The main issues are extremely slow imports (minimal  previews set as default when importing), very delayed thumbnail  (preview) rendering (the grid view sometimes sits with half the  thumbnails rendered, and half not rendered, then all of a sudden, a  minute or two later, all will be rendered...), and slow, in-consistent  1:1 rendering. I've tried all the different combos when it comes to  preview rendering but nothing does the trick. I've even tried switching  my 10GB LR3 (ACR?) cache to different drives but nothing does the trick.
Could  this be an issue with the Catalyst Control Center (software controling  my video driver)? It's all I've got left to consider but would very much  like a resolution.
    Thanks in advance.

Try the performance optimization tips here first:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/400/kb400808.html
Optimize your catalog(s), render 1:1 previews on import, and make sure your Cache folder isn't near the setting in LR preferences. If necessary, increase your Cache size and see if that helps.
If you regularly use Standby Mode to turn off your system, try shutting down Windows AND REMOVE AC POWER. If you have other connected devices (storage, camera, game, etc.) that use a separate power supply, disconnect them from AC power as well. Wait at least 10 seconds, then restore AC power to all devices, and reboot your system. This called a "cold boot," which will insure restoring ALL hardware devices, operating system, background applications and drivers to a known good state.
When I'm done for the day my OS is "Shut Down" and the main AC power strip turned off. It is the ultimate surge protection – NO CONNECTION. When I reboot the next morning I know all my system memory and other resources are freed up and available for my designated usage.
Following these guidelines I have absolutely no issues running LR 3.4.1 on my Windows 7 64 bit system.

  • NEW Mac Mini i7 SUPER SLOW

I have been surfing the discussions for a while, and can not find a reason why. I have been using mac for about 10 years now, and I can not figure out why my new mac mini with the i7 chip is running deadly slow. I dont download anything that isnt on the iTunes library or the App store. It has loads of storage left.
    Here are my specs:
    OSx v 10.9.4
Proc: 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7
    Mem: 4GB 1600 MHz DDR3
I have 600GB left of storage
When I boot the computer it boots really slow. Like 4 or 5 minutes from the time i press the power button until I can log in.
After logging in, if I click to open a program I can literally sit 4 or 5 minutes before its open.
It has done this since I opened the box and fired it up for the first time.
Are mac mini's normally this poor of performance? It drives us nuts as our old iMac was WAY faster than this and it was nowhere near as "powerful" of a computer.
If someone out there can explain what I can do I would sure appreciate any help.

uploaded mountain lion on my mac pro and its super slow can any one help

Remove all items from System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Login Items
    Then restart your Mac.
And check to see how much free space is available on the startup disk. Not enough can slow the entire system down.
Click your Apple menu icon top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click About This Mac > More Info then select Storage from the menu.
Make sure there's never less than 15% available storage space.

  • New mac pro recognises usb 2.0 as 1.0 - super slow data transfer!

updated my new mac pro 3.5 GHz 6-core intel xeon E5 to mac OS 10.9.2 today.
all periphals (standalone hubs, hubs in monitors, harddisks) are now recognised not as is (USB 2.0) but as USB 1.0 (ie transfer rate 12 Mbit/s), no matter whether they are plugged into a port of the mac pro directly or thru a hub. i do not get anything done anymore!
any advice how to get back to USB 2.0?

  • Wireless on My New MBP super slow

Hi everyone, I just bought a shiny new 15" Macbook Pro running Snow Leopard 10.6.2, love it except my wireless is super slow when using it on my home network. I know I'm not the first to complain of this and that there are plenty of other threads about it, but I've tried some of the solutions on those thread to no avail. So I'm starting my own, can someone please help, I'm dangerously close to doing something irrational to my MBP. Ok here's a breakdown of my problem:
    -I'm using a Belkin pre N1 router.
-I pay for 10mbs but I'm getting .5mbs using Airport but if I plug in the ethernet I achieve around 9mbs
    -Airport shows a full signal
-My old IMac runs like a stallion on my network using Airport, so does my roommates Vista machine both getting around 8.5mbs
-I've made sure my IMac's and Macbook Pro settings are the same
-I've tried using an open dns, didn't work
-I've change my router from using a WEP to using a WPA, didn't work
-I've tried changing the broadcast signal from 11N/G to just 11N to 11N/G/B to 11G/B to 11B back to 11N/G, when I broadcasted just N wireless speed jump all the way up to 8mbs hooraay!!! until I quit safari and opened it again wireless speed went back to .5mps
-I've tried using every wireless channel 1-11 plus Auto, Again wireless speed jump all the way up to 8mbs hooraay!!! until I quit safari and opened it again wireless speed went back to .5mps
-I've tried doing a special little dance in front of it, didn't work except to make me ready to drop it like its hot this Saturday!!!
Nothing seems to work. I'm making a Apple genus appointment tomorrow but I have a sneaky feeling that it will be fine on their network and they'll tell me it's belkins problem. Which could be the case but why would my IMac and Vista computers work flawless and not my new MacBook. Please, please, please help. Theres plenty of praise for whomever can solve my problem and I can praise like no other. Thanks
    -Jerry-

yup, same here. Brand new, Core i7 Macbook Pro, and my 13" White Core Duo (not even C2D) Macbook kicks its a** on Airport. What's up with that????
I've tried all the previous "fixes" I could find -- wipe and re-install, delete and replace AirPort entry in Network panel, new Location in Network panel, and so on. This is pretty bad... I haven't tried different DNS yet, but I don't see why the DNS should make any difference when my Mac Pro and the old Macbook seem fine with the servers from my ISP.

  • Brand new iMac: super slow web browsing

Brand new iMac is super slow while browsing the web.
We have cable internet, and the iMac is connected via ethernet cable to an Airport Extreme router. We have a Windows machine connected to the same router.
The Windows machine loads web pages extremely quickly, the iMac takes 20 seconds to a minute to load anything.
Clearly there is a settings problem on the iMac. No idea what.
    It isn't the router.
    It isn't the broadband connection.
    It isn't the DNS server.
    Please help!

I'm not sure if you understood my original post, however, I will re-iterate it here.
I have several machines connected to the same network.
    MacBook Pro
    Windows machine
    iMac.
Only the iMac exhibits any problems.
Clearly, the ISP is not the issue. The iMac is connected via Ethernet to the same router as the PC.
Clearly the Mac is the problem.
Changing DNS server has no effect.
