Fios Media Manager

Does anyone know if there any plans to roll out the Media Center functionality for Mac? Thanks!

It does stink. I bought my daughter one of the cheapest laptops you can imagine, and it had 64 bit Win7 installed on it.

FIOS Media Manager Crashing

Recently every time I try and open FIOS Media Manager, it launches, the FIOS "thinking" icon is moving and then it crashes. I called Verizon and they have no idea what's going on. I noticed on their boards a couple of Mac users have experienced the same issue. I attached the text that comes up when I generate a report. Thanks.

Try locating and deleting any preference/plist files that may be named something like this:
~(yourUserName)/Library/Preferences/com.verizon.mediamanager.plist

The New FIOS Media manager

Ever since I downloaded and installed this new version with video capabilities, I've noticed one disturbing thing. Since the new media maznager and re-scanned my media player albums, it has re-arrange3d them in its own listings in alphabetical order! This is NOT the way they are supposed to play! Is there any solution to this fault? I couldn't find a setting to correct this problem. Thank you.

I had the same problem, and here's what fixed it for me:
In Media Manager, go to File>Import Playlist>Select All>Import
This put albums back in track order for me. Please post results.

FIOS Media Manager Video Macroblocking - What format/codec works best?

I watch a video on my PC, crystal clear. I watch the save video in Media Manager, and it is very choppy, grainy, and blocked. I have tried every video format. Does anyone have any advice for overcoming this? Thanks!

You're out of luck, video support is just plain broken in AA3. The beauty is, it was broken in AA2 as well, and they didn't bother to fix it between the releases. Amazing. If I was doing my job the way Adobe do theirs I'd be unemployed by now. So, you either accept AA3 the way it is or go back to AA1.5 where the video playback worked reliably. Or use some other software for audio-for-video purposes.

Media manager and windows media center

How do I set the Fios Media manager to stream content from the Windows media center to the TV? I was able to set up media manager on a Vista desktop. Would like to set it up on 64 bit new laptop that can be upgraded to windows 7. Please provide step by step instructions.

I do not think you can do this unless you can convert the Windows Media Center recording to a type of file which is supported by Verizon Media Manager. Media Center files have an extension of *.dvr-ms. Verizon Media Manager ONLY supports .avi, .wmv, .flv, 3gp/3g2, .mpg(non-mpeg 2 videos) and .mp4/m4v files. I have been meaning to try this as well, but have not yet.
Can anyone recommend a good and free video converter for this?
Blame MS for this... that is using a propriety video format...

FIOS TV and Media Manager turn themselves off

Every night our TV and the Media Manager box to which it is connected switch themselves off at random times.. This happens once or twice an evening, as well as during the day if the TV has been on for a couple of hours. I then hit the "Tv" and "STB" buttons on the remote, followed by "Power." (Usually after that a message flashes on the black screen telling us to press "menu" if we want to watch TV (as we had been doing before the screen went black).

Is the TV power cord plugging into the Verizon box?
If your TV is plugged into the power outlet in the Verizon box and this is happening, please plug the TV in elsewhere. There could be too much power draw for the box causing it to restart.
If the TV power cord is plugged anywhere else other than the Verizon box, theres nothing the box can do to power off your TV. There would be something else going on. You would need to investigate your electrical signal thats feeding those devices.

IPad and Media Manager Issues

I just installed the Verizon Media Manager App on my iPad and it will not pull anything from my pc. It keeps telling me to register. It lets me sign in with my id, lets me bookmark things, but I cannot pull media from my PC. It is very frustrating. Want to be able to view flex view stuff for the kids while on the road and cannot. Also cannot find the fios on demand app in the App store. Please help. The other app that is not working at all is the MY VZ account app. I cannot check bills, pay bills, check email or anything you should be able to do with it. If the app's are buggy, pull them. Please advise with any solutions.

Here's the master page for all of Verizon's apps. Right now only the Media Manager app is available for iPad.
In order to view your personal media, it must first be uploaded to your FlexView Library. This can be done using the Media Manager application on your PC or Mac.
The Media Manager iPad app also allows you to stream Flex View movies and TV shows you have purchased from Verizon, whether you bought it on your set-top-box, PC or phone. In other words, it also serves as the FiOS On Demand app.

Media manager and EXIF rotation data

My parents have FiOS and I recently helped them setup the Media Manager software so that they can view their pictures on the TV. It works great, except for images that have been taken with the camera rotated. Most other applications (Picasa, Canon ZoomBrowser, etc) are able to read the EXIF and rotate the image accordingly. What is Verizon's timeframe for implementing this fairly basic feature into Media Manager? If it is there, I apologize, and please let me know where it is - I was unable to find it.

When you say rotate the photos using media manager, I assume you mean the PC component? I suppose I could do that, but that's really annoying (like you said). Also, the problem is that then I believe that wouldn't they show up rotated wrongly in all of the other software (zoombrowser, picasa, etc) that does support the exif data for 'this side up' ?
When you say you don't use it anymore, have you found another solution that can export photos to the Home Media DVR? That's what my parents really want - the actual PC software, they'd prefer to use Picasa etc as that's what they're already used to.

Burning DVD's to Media Manager

Do you mean rip/duplicate your purchased DVDs to a format to use with media manager? If so, I believe the answer is no. Duplicating most of the commercially purchased DVD content is a violation of copy write laws. There is a lot of software that will allow this to be done, but it does not make it legal.
I have found software that will play the VOB files, but have not found any that will support the indexing of the VIDEO_TS.IFO. I do not believe that Media Manager will support the file formats. I believe you can rename the VOB extension and they may play, but due to the legality of it, I did not pursue the issue.
I wish they were as easy to manage as MP3s and regular Audio files since you did purchase the right to view them. Thank bootleggers and Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA). Even flex view has some sort of copy protection. I have not purchased any or looked into it. I would prefer to have a DVD in my hand. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MPAA
Some DVD do have a digital versions that can be played on smald portables, but usually in a smaller screen size and reduced resolution. This is due to file space limitations on many portables.

Someone PLEASE Check The Media Manager Program! RunTime Components Will NOT Download Properly!

I am a Verizon FiOS subscriber, and my family members have Verizon apps and programs on their computers. For some ungodly reason, Media Manager does NOT install properly once the initial download program is acquired. There is a message that comes up that says "Media Manger installer is having a problem accessing the server to download RunTime components. Please try again later." I've had my brother call because he is the most technically inclined, and despite being on the phone extensively with Verizon representatives, NO-ONE has fixed or seems to be able to fix this problem!
I would appreciate it if someone would please either fix the files at the server, fix the downloader so that it goes to whatever new area where the runtime components are, or post the correct link to perhaps a full installer of Verizon MediaManager. It is very frustrating that despite calling, I have not gotten ANY proper assistance with this issue!

What OS are you running?
If Vista or Windows 7, Try right clicking the install program and selecting run as administrator. See if that helps.

Media Manager on a Mac

I was told by a FIOS customer service rep that you could download Media Manager on a Mac. This does not seem to be possibile. Any suggestions?

Media manager between two subnets

Hoping some can help. My home network is on a DLink N+ router with a 192.168.0.x subnet. The DLink router is connect to my FIOS router which is on the 192.168.1.x subnet. All of my cables boxes are connected to the FIOS router all of my home PC's,laptops, gaming systems etc connect to the DLink. The DLink's internet gateway is the FIOS router and they are connected via ethernet. By default Media Manager is looking for devices on the 192.168.1.x but the Media Manager host machine is on the 192.168.0.x. So with my current setup I can not use media manager.
I could change the DLink over to the 192.168.1.x subnet but then I will have to disable DHCP on the DLink and basically turn a sofisticated Dual Band N+ router into an access point. I don't want to do this. Is there a method where I could do some port forwarding to make Media Manager work between the two subents. Please help!
I hear of lots of people using their own router in lieu of the FIOS supplied Motorola router. If FIOS would just start supplying N routers I wouldn't need two! I hope I can keep my current network setup and still be able to use media manager. After all it would be a lot nicer to stream video over the N band than over G. I think the biggest weakness with Media Manager is being stuck on G if it winds up I can't use it with my N router.

You would need a NIM/Bridge setup to connect your coax lan (set top boxes) to your Wan. Are you using coax Wan from the AT router? The AT has a built in NIM thats one reason Verizon uses it.

Media manager, iMac, 10.4.11

Called the tech assistance - he said my Fios account was not set up for Media Manager and I needed to call billing - which I have not done as I don't believe there is any special approval needed for Media manager to work. Also searched these forums and could not find any resolution.
I use the Verizon supplied router and connect my iMac wirelessly for internet - I also tried hard wiring but still did not resolve the problem
When I try to access MM via my TV, it gives a message "cannot locate PC".
Please advise, I could not determine if there is a firewall on my Mac blocking it.

Go to the Security icon in System Preferences and click on the Firewall tab and allow the incoming Verizon MM connection. Once that is allowed, refresh the DVR menu and it will show up. Then you will be able to become frustrated over the locking up when playing music, limited playback to MP3 and limited Photo settings.

Media Manager Mac

Running OS X 10.7.4 and Media Manager 1.3 Build 9.1.110
1.cannot sync photos and music to Fios Library on web. Photos already in library cannot be seen on computer using internet. Music in Library cannot be heard.
2. Media Manager cannot play music clearly through TV.
Of course all photos can be seen in Iphoto and all music can be played in Itunes.
Basically Media Manager is a piece of awful software that does'nt even load correctly!!

When you get the error asking if you want to restore the windows, are you getting an option to either say "yes" or "no"? If you do, which option are you clicking on? Let us know when you're able. Thanks!

Symptoms / Troubleshooting:
1) No problems with pictures
2) MP3s, I thought after reading posts on this forum and speaking with Verizon tech support last week that I needed to have Media Player 11, which I upgraded to on two of my desktops, hard-wired running XP Home SP2. I also saw a post about registering some Windows codec drivers with the registry.
3) While on the phone this afternoon, we switched inputs from HDMI (one cable I bought for my week old TV, a second HDMI cable supplied graciously by the Verizon technician last Friday and I just switched to FIOS on 3/13) to RCA cables out the back of the STB, changed to AV1 and it worked like a champ!!
Next steps, to test out component cables so I don't have both HDMI and RCA between my DVR and TV and only need a COMP1 input, not both AV1 and HDMI.
In addition to the post above, has anybody else with this combination of DVR, Software Release, DVR model had similar symptoms and a resolution?
My neighbor showed me Media Manager last Friday and he has a Samsung 42" HD set with a media center DVR connected with just HDMI and does NOT need to swap inputs. He's fine with only HDMI. I haven't had a chance to sniff around his setup and gather the details that I have with mine just yet, but plan to. Basically he just ran the Media Manager setup and ran it from his TV with no issue.
I know that the picture difference isn't supposed to be very different between HDMI and Component, but I guess there's a principle that HDMI is the "latest and greatest", why is this combination of technology a struggle and why should a paying customer have to compromise or settle?

The sleepimage file still reappears even if never slept. Delete it (hibernate off, etc) - within minutes its back.
