FIOS TV coax brings AM radio to telephone line

I converted Phone and internet service to FiOS last spring.  Last month I added FiOS TV  and Verizon pulled in an additional 30 feet of coax in to deliver.  Within 24 hours I had an AM radio station constantly playing on all of my phones.  I've run the gamut on testing and followed all of the suggestions to no avail.  The last option is to find an in-line RF filter for coax to see if that will clear it up.  Can anyone suggest a quality filter or any other bright idea to help resolve this problem?  Thx!

if you have an AM radio on the phone and you have fios. The reason is almost certainly a problem with the ground on the ONT. Likely when they were installing the TV service and were working with the ONT, they probably knocked the ground loose or damaged it in someway. just call tech support and they will send somone out to check/replace the ground on the ONT.

  • Fios Gateway 5 GHz Wireless radio unstable

The Fios Gateway 5 GHz Wireless radio is unstable.  This is my second Fios Gateway router and I'm having the same problem.  The 5 GHz signal is very weak.  There a spots where the signal is unavailable yet the 2.4 GHz.  I even installed aWi-Fi range extender (the one Verizon sells) but the signal did not improve I'm thinking that the Fios Gateway Wi-Fi radios are crap.  I think the best way to proceed is to buy a solid wireless router and shutoff the Fios Gateway wireless radios. Can anyone recommend a wireless router with a usable 5 GHz radio?  I think a commercial Wi-Fi router is the best way to go. Thank you.  I have tried to get Verizon to come out and check my Verizon equipment but that is impossible.   Notice that when you make an service appointment, Verizon calls every morning and if you don't push the right button, they CANCEL your service call.  This is something Congress needs to legislate - SERVICE.  I'm thinking of going back to Comcast.

I have a WiFi extender in line of sight of the Fios Gateway router and the 5GHz channel is still unstable.  At this point I have to assume I can't use the 5GHz channel so I will return the Fios Gateway router rather than pay the monthly fee for an inferior router.  This router is slow even for wired access.  For whatever reason the Fios Gateway routers are not compatible with my Verizon equipment.  My ActionTec is faster and more reliable.  I will also get the most powerful 2.4GHz wireless router and use that as a separate wireless access point instead of the wireless radios in the Verizon routers. I can't imagine busineses putting up with these problems when it comes to 5GHz channels. Thanks.Ed

  • Spa3000 or Spa3102 back to back telephone line extension instrucations

Ive got a set of spa3000`s and spa3102 and what I want to do is use them just to extend a telephone line about 2 miles and pick it up on the other end and use a anolog phone. I will be using a set of maxstream 900mhz ethernet radios for the ethernet bridge. I have pulled everything from the net that I could find on the configuration but no go on the 3000`s. Most info is written for the 3102`s but it pretty close.  Can someone point me in the right direction on what Iam missing, for instance  you ip both but theres no mention on weather dhcp server should be on or off. Also do I use a straight or cross over cable when tying into my bridges.  Any help would be apprecated. Right as this writing Iam going to unbox the 3102`s and give them a shot but would really like a detailed configuration plan if any one has one
    Thanks  ahead of time

make sure you update the firmware to the latest.
I don't know about your converters/extenders, but test the extension seperately from the layer 1 connectivity, so you don't have to troubleshoot multiple issues.

  • Measure voltage on telephone line without adding noise?

I am using a PCI 6013, and made a voltage divider (two resistors in series - 10MOhm and 1Mohm - so the telephone network doesn't see the additional load) to bring the 40 volt onhook v down to 4 volts for the card to measure (the off hook v will read .5 v down from 5v). I assume I must use the differential configuration to read this value? And how to keep from adding noise to the line?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hmmm, are you making a phone tap?
I really don't know anything about telephone line specifications and what are the thresholds between noise and signal, but I do know about the DAQ board! Yes, I would say differential is the best configuration for you to use. This is almost a must to help reject the common-mode noise already on the phone line. It will also produce a lot less noise onto the phone line as opposed to referenced single ended mode. I doubt you'll put much noise on the phone line. You could probe the line with a scope with and without your "project" connected to see how it affects it.
    Sounds like fun!

  • What is the best way to hook up a telephone line to an i- mac so I can receive faxes directly to my computer?

What is the best way to hook up a telephone line to an i- mac so I can receive faxes directly to my computer?
I tried usb modems.  They worked ok for 32 bit usb's but Lion only allows 64 bit.  I bought one from Best Buy and it works when it wants to.  Mostly, it doesn't want to!
Is there a way to connect through a time capsule?

    Thanks for that!!
    Zoom - 56K V.92 USB Mini External Data/Fax Modem
I didn't look any further than this.  I bought this at Best Buy and like I said, it works somesimes.  It does not trigger the fax automatically when the phone rings.  You need to have it manually answer.  In the past, I had the 32 bit Apple version of this external USB modem and it worked without issue.

Using AOL email how do I bring my SMTP password into line with my actual password so I can send email? Thanks.

I'm trying to go from memory now when it happened to me, but try turning the server Off. See if that ungreys the setting so that you can enter the password and username. I believe on my one AOL account what I did was to select another SMTP server from the list below the primary server.

  • Bt unable to install telephone line in Central eas...

I placed an order to have broadband installed on the 26th of July. We live in a new building which was completed in April this year, in E1 central East London. Well, after all this time internet has not been installed, and it is getting delayed, month after month, now for the 15th of October.
The new excuse is that Bt needs to install the line and need to do some work in the street. This work needs to be done now, not 4 or 5 months ago when it should have been done.
The funny thing is that we have two elevators which, if they are not connected to any emergency telephone line, is against the law. We are going to start conversations with the Tower Hamlets council to raise a case about it.
I already received the router and the you view device which are happily stored and with no use. The important thing is that BT, of course, took the money for the line rental that I am not using and that is not even installed!
Thanks Bt, good work, looking forward to have telephone line one day and switch to a different, real provider.

BT do not provide or maintain the external network. This is done by Openreach who work for all service providers. BT do not get any special treatment.
You would get the same result with another service provider.

  • Telephone line

Hello i have been experienceing troubles with both my internet and phone line for a couple of years now. I have contacted support by phone a number of times but they keep telling me to go to my computer and theres a problem with the router, but i have already been through that. A new router was sent to me by the company and connects to all my devices with full bars but i am experiencing rapid loss of connection and sometimes large amount of static in the phone lines. I have been told to get a booster so the connection isnt lost and it would be more stable so i bought a ethernet cable. The cable works great but i am still experienceing connection trouble everything is set up fine but often i still lose connection rapidly and internet is extremly slow. I went outside and notice the telephone line has wires hanging from the box and ice built up inside the wire harneses. A man was sent up to fix this line from the company about 2 years ago when a tree fell down on it during a storm but all he did was push the wires back in the black box and ducktaped a trash back to hold the wires in and said he will be back to finish but never was. Now the trash bag is of the wires and the live wires are all scattered over the woods below my house. I fear this is a fire hazzard and the company did not take this problem to seriously. I asked support if they could send someone up but they said they wont unless i pay them to fix it! I am not shure what to do at this point i feel that i was paitent enough with the company but they do not seem to care or be very realiable at this point, was thinking about switch to atlantic but not shure all i want is the lines to be fixed.

  • Telephone line frequently goes dead, doesn't affec...

My telephone line frequently drops out, with no diallig tone at all.  If I go to the BT fault checking page and run the test it  reports no fault, but the running of the test appears to 'clear' the line and funcitonality is returned.  This happens once or twice a week for no reason.  I have bought completely new telephone equipment in case this is the fault (Gigaset C620) but this had made no difference.  I have Infinity Broadband and this does not seem to be affected.  I have had similar faults in the past, which can sometimes be 'cleared' by phoning my home number twice, either from a mobile or by VPN from my computer, or using the BT Smarttalk app on my phone.  This is really frustrating and annoying - especially as people say they have tried to phone and had no reply.
    Can anyone hlep please?

you need to report the no dial tone fault on 151 it needs engineer intervention

We went summer holliday from 27th July to 18th Aug.

5th Sep (Thurs) at 2:50PM: BT enginner came to my house and he cut off the broadband line without my permission.
After that, I phone BT almost every day (6th to 11th Sep) what is going on??? However, BT operators didn't explain it to me any ditails.... THe said just excuse....
12th Sep (Thurs): I phoned BT and BT operator said that one of their managers would phone me tomorrow(13th Sep Fri.).
    HOWEVER, NOBODY PHONED ME !!!
13th Sep (Fri): I had to phone BT at 5:00PM. I was very very upset at that time, because we couldn't use any internet.
BT operator said that BT would phone me around 3:00PM tomorrow.
14th Sep (Sat): Finally, BT phone me at 2:50PM and BT operator (Female) said that BT obtain permission for digging from Council. Therfore, it would be fixed soon.
I was waiting any progress information from BT until 18th Sep (Wed).
18th Sep (Wed): I phoned BT at 1:00PM and BT operator(Prithika) said that BT engineer would come to my house at 6:30PM for fixing lines for me.  HOWEVER, HE DIDN'T TURN UP. (BT let me down again.)
at 6:40PM: I had to phone BT. BT operator(Basba) expained it to me (excuse again!) then,
at 7:00PM:   He put me through "Broadband Team' to temporary close the internet line to activate, but in vain.
at 7:15PM:    He put me through "Technical Department". BT operator (Ranjeet) expained that there were 2 failures in my case.

and 15:35PM BT(Amir who care team) phoned me that someone would contact me next Monday....
4th Oct: BT(David) phoned me and he said that contractors didn't give BT any schedule. They said that it would be more than 5 weeks....
We have used a Japanese broadband (NOT BT Broadband). We used BT line with the Japanese broadband. Therefore, BT doesn't care my problem. We can not use internet more than 1 month... We had to use a pocket FiWi which I had to top up £25 for 7GB X 7 times so far..... (my children needs to connect internet for homework, download etc...)
I asked BT to use BT Wifi but I havn't used BT broadband. That is why they didn't support customer's care.
I am very very upset... I had to keep paying the pocket wifi until BT fix the line..
BT doesn't care the costomer's condition at all. Only care the customers who using BT products.
I am very much upset this service... However, I have to use BT line after fixing it.... very sad......

  • 2 telephone lines

We have two telephone lines in our home (different numbers). One for the office (office is in our home & only 20 feet from the router but very thick walls) one for the main house both lines are with BT.
I get occasional wifi in the office, its very poor and slow whilst in the house a fab speed. Can I move my router to my office to get a better connection. Help

    Hi,
You may want to move this to the correct forum to get a response!
You are able to place your router in any location! Fortunately, I am on top of the master socket but with metal-lined walls, I do struggle with Wifi also!

  • Radio stations audible on telephone line

Have had phone service (landline) with Verizon at this same location for years, and  was working well until about one month ago, when Internet connection was lost, followed by telephone box not receiving power. Repairman replaced external boxes and phone box/battery, and now we are receiving what sounds like several radio stations when trying to use the phone. Callers do not hear this. Makes placing calls very unpleasant and almost inaudible.

  • Fios Router (Coax Connected) and pfSense box, how to do this?

Hello, I have a Actiontec M1424WR Rev. 1 and a HP Proliant DL380 G5 (Running pfSense) and would like to use the HP Proliant as the "router" yet still be able to use the Actiontec router for wireless operations. I would perfer not to have to run a ethernet line from the ONT to the pfSense server its self. Thanks!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

It's possible, yes. If you plan to make the pfSense box your primary router and Firewall, your best bet is to run Ethernet from the ONT to the pfSense box, and then put everything behind your box.
