FIOS wiring with internal coax

I am considering FIOS TV/Internet in a new house I am buying and have a question regarding wiring and networking setup options.
The house has coax run to every room, but doesn't have ethernet cabling. Ideally, i would be able to:
1. Connect the provided wireless router to any of the COAX ports in the house.
2. Use any other COAX port in the house for a wired internet connection.
Is that possible? I am guessing that "1" won't be a problem, but i am guessing that "2" might be a problem.
Thanks.

1.  Verizon can bring internet into your house via the coax only, OR via ethernet cable to the router (along side the coax for tv).   Then you connect your computers to your router either via wireless (any number of wireless connections) [and wireless is only half the speed of wired] or via ethernet cable to your router (or to an ethernet plug in the wall which is connected to a system in your house which is connected to your router) [your router comes wth 4 available LAN ports, into which you could plug switches if you need more than 4 ethernet connections], not usually via coax.
2. you only need 1 verizon router in your house connected to coax for ALL of your TV's to function.  (if you place more than one router in your coax line your additional routers will cause problems for tv's unless the additional routers are so dumbed-down that there then would be no point for the additional routers connected to coax) [and so Verizon will only supply you with one free router].
3.  if internet is brought in via coax, and therefore IS running across your coax, to connect a computer to the coax in each room you need a network interface module (NIM) to connect to that coax outlet and then have an ethernet cable connecting your computer to the NIM (and that ethernet connection won't be as fast as ethernet to the router).
4. Verizon will run one ethernet line to your computer located in the same room as the one router connected to coax, but they won't snake the cable through walls.  In some instances you may be able to get an ethernet cable run on the outside of your house to then be run into the room through a hole in the wall, but that too is problematic for Verizon.
5. Verion will not just give you free NIMs if you decide that is the configuration you want to use.
6.  Verizon is not in the business of 'networking' your home.  If you want ethernet cable to each room (the best connection) you may need to consider having another professional outfit to runn those wires, or do it yourself.

  • Using FIOS TV with internal tuner card in a PC?

I've checked the FAQs and many of the postings but haven't seen anything about this, which makes me wonder if I am looking in the wrong place :-)
Is it possible to view FIOS TV using an internal computer TV Tuner card, and using Windows Media Center to view programs?
I do not have any premium channels, like HBO, etc.  I have not purchased a tuner card yet, (pending the answers I get here), but what I have seen online for various types of internal computer tuner cards mentions Digital ATSC, Digital QAM, etc.  It seems to indicate I can connect the cable directly to the TV card if the channels are not encrypted, and therefore I would not need a set top box.
My question is, can I connect the cable directly to the tuner card, without a set top box, or must I have a set top box in all circumstances?  Can I see anything without the set top box?

Unless the tuner card has provisions for a cable card (would be rented from Verizon for $3.99 / month) all channels with the excption of the broadcast (OTA) and PEG channels are encrypted.  That means no ESPN, USA, SyFy, etc. - only the broadcast networks, andy local independents, and any carried Public Broadcasting stations.
Actually has been discussed many times - did you try the forum search feature?

  • Using two Actiontec routers with two coax lines

    Hello all-
I currently have one Actiontec router with coax plugged in near my TV (best wifi distribution in house) and my PC in my home office using wireless. A while back the router had been installed in my home office, and another coax cable was put in. I currently have two coax cables coming into the house.
What I want to do is purchase another Actiontec router and plug my office's coax cable into it, and use the new router for a wired connection to my PC. Is there an easy way I can do this? Is itt as simple as buying the new router and plugging it in?
    Thanks.

It's easy, but not quite as simple as just plugging it in.

  • Slow dial up Internet connection with Internal modem

I just bought a Mac G4 with dual 1.25 gig processors and internal modem for my dial up connection to the Internet. My modem connect speed is 28.8K and max through put on a session is 19K.
I can use any of 3 Windows/PC's and plug them into the same phone jack and get a solid 50.6K connection with a max through put of 49K. Get basically the same connect speeds with a Windows Laptop
Any thoughts of what may be the problem with the Mac Internal modem and such a slow connect speed.
Would buying an external modem with its own processor help me in better connect speeds. Simply at 28.8K the Mac is next to useless on the web.
My home is all wired with Cat 5e, all jacks are a direct run to the punch down block.
My goal is to switch my business to all Mac's, but I need to get the connect problem resolved first.
    Thank You

My girlfriend lives in a hill town in a fairly wooded mountain road. She cannot get broadband or DSL either, and the town will, probably never get it. She has satellite, and when it's working well it's great, but in bad weather or cloudy days, the reception is spotty and the satellite provider charges mucho buck for their satellite high speed internet acesss.
So, she has no choice but to rely on the town's phone lines and basically is stuck with dial-up. Unfortunately, the town's phone lines are very old and are analog lines with no digital support. The fastest she can ever achieve is 28k to 30K speeds. Panifully slow dial-up and even small downloads are an experience in patience and time.
Maybe call the phone company to check what kind of phone lines your town or surrounding towns are using.
And if they know what data transfer speeds the lines support
    Also, a thought.
If this Mac was not purchased new, but as a refurbished or used Mac, it could've had a "new" slower modem installed because the original failed and a identical spec'd modem was not installed.
I have a single 1.25 Ghz MDD and has a V.92 56K internal modem and I just found out my town's phone lines can support a 125k data transfer or "high speed dial-up". Unfortunately, for some unknown reason, my 56K will only get me to transfer speeds of between 44k and 48. Not sure if this is fault of my modem, accessing my ISP as the dial-up number dials into a tower at least 20 miles away and my ISP's server is over 40 miles away.
My brother came to visit and his PC laptop could dial-in to his ISP and was able to get transfer speeds of 100k to 120k.
Again, not sure if this was because of a faster modem or not.
You would think that if the phone line in my area can support 128k speeds that my modem should be tapping in and operating at 50k spedds or close to the modem's max of 56k.
This is a stumper becuase I am considering looking for a high speed dial-up provider to replace my current ISP, but if my modem won't clock to any faster than 44k or 48k , I think this would be a waste of my efforts and money.
If anyone can help me shed some light on my situation, this will help me out, as well.

  • Problem with internal speakers of MacBook Pro

    Hi,
I wanted to know if anyone have experienced a problem with internal speakers of Mac Book Pro. In my MackBook the Internal speaker volume goes down automatically. I checked the System Preferences>Sound>Output , from there I check that it is in the middle ( Balance) However, the problem is still the exists. Just for testing I played an audio file and I moved the bar toward the right speaker it is the same and when I move toward the left speaker the whole sound goes off . Looks like one speaker stops working completely. Then I checked the Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup > Configure Speakers  from there I checked both left and right speakers and the channel frequency is fine. Still same issue.  I have no idea what is going on , I really need your suggestions to get this fixed.

The current options available online are U.S. English, Western Spanish, French or Japanese keyboards. You might try calling 1-800-MYAPPLE to speak to someone. It's possible you might be able to get something else as a BTO option.

  • How to create a Business Partner with internal number assignment

    Hello,
We are using a CRM 7.0 system. We want to create a new Business Partner using LSMW. We chose IDoc basic type CRMXIF_PARTNER_SAVE_M03 to perform it. We want to create it with internal number assignment (we don't have BP ID or BP GUID). Unfortunatelly, when we leave PARTNER_NO and PARTNER_GUID fields empty, we get an error message that we should supply at least BP ID or BP GUID. So what values should we enter in order to create a BP with internal number assignment?
Please put attention that we also don't want to enter any alternative external number because we don't want the end user to see after in the WebUI.
    Thanks in advance,
    Sergey Kozyrev

    Hello,
Standard CRM PC UI application offers three options when you push 'New' button: 'Person', 'Organization' and 'Group' (combobox appears). In your case, 'Person' should be selected.
p.s. If you don't see combobox mentioned above, it could be security issue.

  • MacPro 5,1 - 6 Hard Drives (with internal Superdrive)

I'm throwing this out there because I searched for a long time for an EASY way to set up 6 hard drives in the MacPro case.  This is how I did it.  I'll throw some comments in at the end for anyone interested and also what I would have liked to have done differently.  (there aren't any pictures, but I'll put up links to what I used)
    Parts List:
2.5 inch Sata II hard drive - Western Digital 160GB (Scorpio Black)
3.5 inch Sata II hard drive - Western Digital 2 TB (Caviar Black)
Optical Bay Mount - OWC Multi Mount - http://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/MM352A52MP9/
Sata II Internal RAID PCIe Card - Vantec - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004QY7M9I/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00
    Sata power splitter - StarTech - http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-PYO2SATA-Power-Splitter-Adapter/dp/B002N2EHVQ
    7pin Sata data extension cable - http://www.ebay.com/itm/120999365424?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m143 9.l2649
    1m 7pin Sata female to female cable - http://www.ebay.com/itm/221046259401?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m143 9.l2649
    Setup:
    1.  Pull your optical bay sled and install your two drives using your chosen mount.
    2.  Install your PCIe RAID card with internal Sata II ports.
    3.  Remove the power supply cable cover (I think that's what it's called; it's the plate immediately behind the optical bay sled, comes out with two screws)
    4.  If you have a hard drive installed in Bay 1, remove it from the case and out of your way.
    5.  Run your 1m Sata data female to female cable from your RAID card, under the top-most portion of your PCIe fan (do not remove the fan), and follow the bundled cables up through the divider, and in front of the optical bay doors.
    6.  Replace the power supply cable cover, being careful to route the Sata cable along with the other cables, and re-secure cover.
    7.  Connect Sata data splitter to Mac lower Sata connector.  You will have to do minor fabrication to the splitter to allow it to fit.
    8.  Connect the 7pin Sata data extension cable to Mac lower Sata connector.  You will have to do more minor fabrication to the splitter to allow it to fit.
    9.  Carefully replace your optical bay sled and begin connecting cables.  You should connect your superdrive to the Mac upper Sata connector first.  You should then connect the power splitter to both drives.  Then connect your Sata data cables to both drives.  You may have to adjust the position of the optical bay sled to adequately connect all cables.
    10.  Replace anything you removed (like your Bay 1 hard drive), and close up your tower.
    11.  If needed, install drivers for your PCIe card.
    12.  That's it, you're done.  Take note that if your RAID card does not have boot capability, you will only get boot functionality out of the drive that you connected using the data extension cable.  The drive you connected to the RAID card will only have boot capability if your card supports it.
    My present computer:
    MacPro 5,1 - Quad core Xeon 2.8GHz
Hard drive 1, 2 - 64GB Striped RAID for Scratch Disk
Hard drive 1, 2 - 900GB Unused (trying to convert at least half to a Windows XP drive, but that's another issue)
Hard drive 3, 4 - 2TB Striped RAID for Main Data
Hard drive lower - 160GB 2.5 inch Boot Drive
Hard drive external (PCIe) - 2TB Time Machine
Not including hard drives, we're talking about $60.  I wasn't sure if this combination of items was going to work out, so I wanted to keep the dollar total low.
In retrospect, if I'm being totally honest, I should have just done what everyone said and used an external drive for time machine (or whatever 6th hard drive I wanted).  Here's why:  My RAID card doesn't have boot functionality, which I didn't think would matter.  I planned on using the drive connected to the RAID card for my Time Machine.  Everything works great, except I can't boot from my homemade OSX USB recovery drive and use Time Machine for a restore.  This is because the RAID card drivers aren't on it.  I could probably make a workaround, but I will just use my external clone if I ever need to do a full restore.  Had I used an external FireWire 800 enclosure in the first place, I wouldn't have had to worry about it.
    Notes about cables:
Don't buy the cheapest ones you can find on eBay.  After fabricating my data extension cable, the L-shaped portion that the connectors lay on broke off inside my Mac's connector.  I threaded the connectors back in, but for now, the two are married with electrical tape.  Not very pretty, and a big reason why I didn't take the system apart to make pictures for the guide.
Know what lengths you need.  I kind of guessed about lengths.  The data extension cable should preferably be the same length as the power splitter.  Unfortunately my power splitter was a little long, and my data extension cable was a little short.  This created the need to bend them excessively so that I could cram them into the little space that was left.  This caused my above issue in which one of the connectors broke.
    OWC MultiMount:
This is what started my quest in the first place.  This product existed, so clearly there must be an answer for how to do it.  You can fit two drives in the lower bay, so you should do it, right?  I love OWC, but this mount is pretty junky.  It works, but it's not OEM styled.  The material they use (which they say is aluminum) is very flimsy.  I had to bend it back into position in several places to make the brackets line up.  There's no sound from the bracket while the machine is running, which is good.  But I was surprised at how seemingly low quality this mount was.  I would have been much happier with a machined aluminum mount with rubber grommets like the stock hard drive sleds.
A word about which mount you get:  You will be much happier if you mount 2 2.5-inch drives in the lower bay (at least in a vertical configuration).  You'll have more space to work with, and other than price, there's no reason to stick a 3.5-inch drive in there (unless you're cheap like me).
When all is said and done, I'm happy that I got 6 Hard drives crammed into my case.  I'll never (hopefully) outgrow my system.  I have 2TB of data storage (which I doubt I'll surpass).  I've got a boot disk that's plenty large, I've got a scratch disk that's super fast, and I've even got some additional high-speed hard drive space I'll hopefully get a Windows partition onto.  The better option though, would be to put one hard drive in that bay.  Skip all the add-ons, and get an external FireWire 800 enclosure.  Dedicate one port on the rear of the tower to it, and stash it out of sight.  It's exactly the same but easier to remove.
Feel free to ask any questions.  I'll do my best to answer them.

Have you checked this site? They are out of stock at the moment, but more should arrive soon:

  • Create vendor in ERP R/3 with internal number range

    HI,
When I create a new vendor from MDM in R/3 with internal number range ADRMAS is processed OK but CREMDM is in status 51 because of missing address data.
According to sap note  1052964 (se below) ADRMAS must be the first IDOC and it should contain the vendor number, but this is not possible with internal number range. How do you overcome this problem and how do I get the vendor number back to MDM?
ALE inbound needs the customer / vendor account number within the ADRMAS IDoc to link the ADRMAS IDoc to the follwing DEBMAS / CREMAS IDoc correctly. Therefore field <OBJ_ID> in ADRMAS segment <E1ADRMAS> must contain exactly the same value as fields <KUNNR> / <LIFNR> in the corresponding DEBMAS / CREMAS IDoc. If this value is not provided, the Business Address Service stores the address but is unable to link the address later on to the corresponding Customer / Vendor.
    Kind regards
    Jonna

We have worked around these problems in the past.  These are the steps we took:
    1.  We created a custom program to process a CREMDM IDOC.  This custom program was pretty simple.  It called the function module to process a CREMAS IDOC (IDOC_INPUT_CREDITOR) then did a committ.  The program captured the vendor number and then called the function module (IDOC_INPUT_ADRMAS) that processes an ADRMAS IDOC (It plugged in the previously captured Vendor number in the ADRMAS).
    2.  Using this custom program, it is not necessary in PI to split the CREMDM into a CREMAS and an ADRMAS.
    3.   The last step in the custom program kicked off transaction MDMV to trigger an outbound CREMDM IDOC back to MDM.  This was necessary to update the vendor number in MDM.
