Fireface 800 issues!

Hi
my channel levels in logic pop to +6 max and distorting by themselves, accross all channels too.
I shut off automation or wrote some to avoid any fader motion on but they still change by themselves regardless, same in the Fireface mixer., i will see numbers changing by themselves.
-Using a iMac C2D, 2GB Ram, 750 HD.
-I have inputs on front and rear turned on, +4 on mic gains.
-I also get pops and crackles even after i updated the audio via software update.
My issues with this unit is i can not work due to levels staying at +6, like i mentioned above, i would move a fader and it just goes yo +6 by itself, in the Fireface Mixer it shows numbers flickering, if anyone knows why please do let me know if it is something i'am doing wrong.

My gues would be something is sending MIDI controller data to Logic. If your only MIDI controller is disconnected and it still happens, then maybe it's the Fireface control panel as already mentioned.
Open your environment, and insert a Monitor object between the Physical Input object and Sequencer Thru objects (in the Click&Ports layer).
Do you see controller data coming in? If so, something is sending this data to Logic. You can of course use Logic to filter this stuff (insert transformer objects set to filter out what you want) but this is a brute force fix - better to find the source of the MIDI data and turn it off there, if you can.

  • RME Fireface 800 in 64 bit Problem

Using information helpfully provided by Kappy and The Hatter on this forum (see topic https://discussions.apple.com/message/27751034?ac_cid=op123456 if interested) I found that I was able to get my Mac Pro (early 2008) 3,1 to boot in 64 bit mode, and that Logic Pro 9 could also be made to open and work in 64 bit mode.
I am currently using OSX 10.6.8 Snow Leopard, but am waiting for 10.8 Mountain Lion to be “delivered” (by email) so that I can use Arturia’s  V Collection 4 and their Keylab 61 USB MIDI keyboard controller, both of which require Mountain Lion. V Collection 4 is 64 bit only, which is why I want to use 64 bit.
It all seems to work except my RME Fireface 800 interface, which is not recognised in 64 bit - red light on the FF800 unit and the associated software will not open. The FF800 works fine when I go back to 32 bit on the Mac Pro.
Does anyone here know about the issue with 64 bit and the RME Fireface 800 please? Maybe it just needs updated drivers? I have emailed RME and await their reply but it made sense to ask here as well.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks
    Steve
[By the way, I have checked, from very helpful people on this forum, that Mountain Lion is compatible with my Mac Pro, and that the Mac Pro does have 64 bit kernal]

Just needed to download up-to-date driver and flash firmware. Solved with the help of RME support. :-)

  • RME FIREFACE 800 COMPATABILITY

I recently bought a new iMac and Logic Studio 8. I'm shopping for a firewire interface and was wondering if anyone could give me a difinitive answer on whether or not there are any compatability issues with the RME Fireface 800. I'm using a new (I believe it was made 2/08) iMac and Logic Studio 8. I'm leaning toward a used RME 800. Are there any differences in compatability with a new RME 800 vs. a used one? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I would strongly recommend also checking out the Metric HALO units. I owned an RME FF800 for a while, and it is a fantastic interface with great flexibility and converters, but if you can get buy with fewer connections, you can go with the Metric HALO ULN-2, which has pre-amps that rival boutique amps costing (by themselves) as much as the whole Metric HALIO interface.
If you need a lot of connections, you can go with the 2882, which has more I/O, but preamps only as good or slightly better than the RME unit.
I will tell you that after using the RME for a couple of years, I auditioned the Metric HALO and like it better...but that is just MY preference.
BTW, if you check it out, look at the EXTENDED version (that is what I have). The 2d card is astonishing, and particularly, the "character" settings are to die for.
I have a modest home studio, and this track was done COMPLETELY with Metric HALO and Peluso and Rhode mics. The compliments that I received on the guitar sound were better than the tracks on another song that I did with API pres. Go figure.

  • Fireface midi issues

Hello. I have a Roland A-33 midi controller hooked up to the Fireface 800 (the midi cabeling is correct). I can't get Logic to receive the midi signal. Has anyone been successful at getting the Fireface 800 to send
and receive midi with Logic 7.0? If so, please advise.

Try creating a new session with setup assistant, ensure your audio midi setup is correct before doing this. Some issues with the demo songs...unless you have already done this, you are new here so I thought you may be new to Logic...

  • Aggregate device on the same firewire bus (fireface 800 and Lightbridge

    Hi,
I'm trying to set up a aggregate device with my old RME Fireface 800 (on the firewire 400 bus) and this new M-Audio Lightbridge. But allthough I manage to create the device, there is no sound at all. The Fireface acts as digital master via a word clock cable. The Fireface are connected via a 10 m. cable to the rear connection (on my nes Mac Pro) and the Lightbridge are connected to the front. I know it's the same bus using those two connectors, so do you think a separate firewire board would be a solution?
    Regards Stig

So the firewire "bus" and a firewire "interface" are the same thing then? Excuse my ignorance, I've just been put in the position that I needed to know this for the first time with this audio interface problem. The things I used my firewire ports for just worked without me having to learn much about it up until now. Also, I found some posts that the card had some issues functioning in a version of Leopard. I'm about to upgrade from Tiger (finally) directly to Snow Leopard. Do you (or anyone else who sees this) happen to know if there are any issues there? I appreciate the help very much Rod.

  • Mac OSX Mavericks 10.9 firewire audio problem on RME Fireface 800, MOTU 828 Mk II and Apogee Duet on late 2013 iMac i7

I just got the late 2013 iMac 3.5GHz Intel Core i7 and all my firewire based audio interfaces do not work properly although I upgraded to the latest drivers. iTunes or Youtube can play for a short and then there are unbrearable digital noises.
Apogee Duet is slightly better that can play for a few minutes. Then it may have short pause or digital noises. I need to reset the "Sample Rate" to other values to get it work again.
MOTU 828 mk II and RME Fireface 800 are having the most serious problems. Alternating the sample rate can sometimes help but often I need to reboot the iMac to get it work again. However, it works for only 1-2 minutes before the digital noises.
These are the software/drivers I installed:
    - Apogee Maestro 2 version 2.8.8
    - MOTU Universal Audio Installer for Mac OS X version 1.6.58373 (8/20/2013)
    - RME version 3.19, firmware 2.77
I connect the fireware through Apple Thunderbolt to Firewire convertor.
These drivers are supposed to work with 10.9 but they don't. Anyone can help or share experience?

I've read in other forums that there are two issues that is causing this problem of chopping audio and freezing interfaces.  One has to do with USB 2.0 /USB 3.0 issues in OS.  The other seems to be an issue with the Fusion drive.
The fix for the fusion drive issue that has been shared online is to either:
Option #1.  Don't use the fusion drive and create an external boot drive clone (either SSD or standard HD) and use as your primary drive (completely surpassing the internal fusion drive).
Option #2.  Split the internal fusion drive.  From there you can use them as two separate logical drives.  Load your OS on one of the drives (SSD or HD).   http://www.macworld.com/article/2015664/how-to-split-up-a-fusion-drive.html
Before, you do any of the above, make sure that you backup your current system setup.
I just received my imac (2013) with 3TB fusion and I plan on trying option #1.  I bought a 3TB external USB drive which I plan to clone after I have the machine running.  Once I clone the internal drive, I will test how the machine runs from both the internal fusion and the external to prove if this addresses the audio clipping/stopping problem.  Hopefully, Apple will find a fix for this.
It is really a dissapointment that a brand new $2500+ machine and software was not tested to perform something that my 2008 MacBookPro and my home built Window XT machine (circa 2003) did without issue.  I wished that I would have checked the forums about these issues before I purchased the machine.
You can do some searches online and find even more detail discussions on this topic.

  • Problem installing RME Fireface 800 drivers iMac OS X 10.8.5

    Hi,
The drivers for the RME Fireface 800 audio interface will not install on my iMac.
    iMac 3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB Ram, OS X 10.8.5
(I have also borrowed a Fireface 800, which works, from a friend so it does not seem to be a problem with my audio interface).
I downloaded the latest drivers from the RME website and the installation proceedure appears to go smoothly but the drivers are not installed (and no sign of the two programs that usually install; the mixer application and the application for choosing the inputs/outputs etc..)
The Fireface 800 and iMac were both working happily together using OS X 10.5 but the iMac hard drive had to be replaced and the operating system has been upgraded to OS X 10.8.5.
I am trying Onyx to see if it clears this up.
    Please help me. Thank you.
    Ben

    Hi,
Onyx is asking:  Where is System Events.app
Does anyone know how I should action this or if this could be linked to the issue with installing drivers and if so what I should do?
    Thanks
    Ben

  • Use Au Lab with Rme fireface 800 problems

    Hello
i have a eq configuration for my speakers so i would like use it on my master output with Au Lab
the problem is when i open the output configuration, The levels doesn't work. I put output 1-2 and nothing happens.
I have a special configuration because i have an external processor:
Signal goes out from the streaming out 3-4 (on the center side)  and gets the output 3-4( down side).
Then the signal goes to In3-4 (up side)to catch the processor and goes out to the output (1-2).
    What i have to do??
    Thank you very much
    Specifications:
    Mac pro final 2013 /10.9.5
    Rme fireface 800 /3.22
    Au Lab 2.2.2

    Hi Mangouste,
visiting the forum of RME I found that a possible solution to overcome this problem is to make a connection between the iMac and the FF800 audio card using a firewire cable (9pin male to 9pin male, std 1394b) between the two firewire ports 800. Anyway I didn't try yet this solution because this cable std is not easy to find out (here in Italy). I ordered it 15 days ago but I didn't receive it yet. I have still to complain about Apple attitude on this issue. I didn't receive any answer/suggestion from their side. Furthermore, once again they erased this issue from the issues global list. In fact my last message was dated 30 April, but I didn't find it in the list on this date. Only once I performed the login I found again my questions and was able to answer to you.
    Bye

  • RME Fireface 800 and Final Cut Pro

    Hi Forum
I have a RME Fireface 800. Trying to make it record in Final Cut Pro 6.05 and Soundtrack Pro. I't won't. Only through built in Mic can I record in FCP (or Line-in in iMac)
When using Fireface as default sound device, I see an input signal on the unit and I can hear output but ONLY through headset. I've been trying to fiddle with the settings in the Fireface Mixer but with no luck. (Everything works as it should in Cubase)
Fireface 800 connected through external hardrive, LaCie.
(Fireface 800 doesn't work if I plug it directly into the iMac, something with the firewire chip, they told me at the music store when I couldn't get Cubase 5 to work - it now works with that setup)
I'm using firewire 800 cable. Anybody can help me out?
    All the best, Ulrich

Did anyone have to roll back their firewire drivers to get the FireFace to work with OSX 10.4.10 on Intel - as mentioned here for a competing product?

  • RME Fireface 800 Help

I'm gonna be short and sweet on this one, sorry.
Me and a few colleagues recently purchased the RME FireFace 800 Interface with a multitude of other things to start a label. Our problem is we cant seem to get Adobe Audition 3 to recognize/record with the interface. Were thinking its something dumb we overlooked in the settings of something. Any help is appreciated. We are running Windows Vista (:( brand new comp, sorry.), with enough memory and such.

Is the 'host' light on the FF800 red?  If so, then the computer is not seeing the FF800 (or more accurately, the FF800 is not seeing the computer).  The host light SHOULD NOT be lit when a proper connection is established.<br /><br />Are you running the latest drivers for the FF800 (2.86)?  Can you see activity in the RME TotalMix app (for FF800, it is called FireFace Mixer)?  If so, click <Ctrl> preset 2 in the FireFace settings to load up the factory preset that routes all inputs 1-to-1 to the outputs and also a headphone mix.<br /><br />If all that is working and you can hear inputs in the headphones connected to the FF800, then you should be able to choose the FF800 in the list of devices for the MultiTrack and Edit tabs under device setup in AA3.<br /><br />--Dean

  • Send & Return with Fireface 800 not working with Logic 8

    Hello all.
I'm having a bear of a time setting up an FX loop from Logic to a FireFace 800. I suspect the problem is in Totalmix, but I can't seem to configure that at all.
Trying to route Track #1, through the FF and into Helicon VoicePro, then back to Logic's Track #4.
    Here's what I'm doing:
    - In Logic, Track #1, in Mixer window, setting Send to Bus #2.
    - Bus #2 is set to Outs 3-4.
    - Fireface outs 3&4 go to the Helicon
    - Helicon outs go to Fireface input 7&8
    - In Logic, track #4 is set to Input 7&8, Out 1-2.
I'm NOT using the I/O plugin, just the normal I/O selectors.
I get no signal to the Helicon with the above setup. However, if I change the Fireface cabling so the outs are 1&2, it goes through the Helicon just fine (the only problem is I get an echo-loop as the signal is feeding through over and over again). So, the Helicon works, the problem is at the Fireface, and I suspect it's because I can't get Total mix to route. The Fireface manual is worthless for this, I've followed the one paragraph of advice and it doesn't work.
Does anyone know of another way to route the signal? Or any tutorial for Totalmix?
All I want to do is send, add FX, then return to a new track.

R u recording midi input into the track? (ez drummer takes midi info and feeds it into the plug-in (drum samples) for output. of course, you can route the output from ez drummer to an audio track to record the audio output. But working in midi allows you to edit your midi files, change drum sounds, etc.

  • Rme fireface 800 ?

anyone know of a dvd or vidio on the rme for best way to set it up for useing with logic .

I was told to turn off software monitoring in logic as this would be better if I was using total mix. When I did this my plugins for audio tracks don't work. I'm having a hard time fully understanding Total Mix. If you had my set up how would you set your preferances in logic and total mix?
I have a iMac G5 2.0 ghz w/2 gigs of ram running latest OSX. Fireface 800.
I use logic pro to record electric (LP,Strat,Carvin TL60 or acoustic (Ovation Legend) through the single instrument input on the FF800. I like this unit it sounds great.
    Any help would be appreciated

  • Fireface 800 I/O labels

I'd like to replace my Fireface's default I/O labels (Input 1, Input 2 and so on) by a more descriptive label (Alog In 1, ADAT Out 6 etc.). I suppose this has to be done manually in the Audio Configuration window. Does anybody know an easier way to accomplish this?
    PowerBook G4 1.67   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   RME Fireface 800, Logic Pro 7.2

I don't know ? It works fine here. you type in your custom name, make sure the button is checked and the new name comes up in the mixer

  • Fireface 800 Operation

    Hello,
I am having a difficult time understanding how my rme fireface 800 controls the volume output of my imac.
Is there someone out there that has a fireface 800 that would be willing to help me understand a couple things?
I have the rme fireface 800 connected to my imac via the firewire 800. I have Dynaudio powered monitors connected to outputs of the fireface 800 7+8. All I'd like to do is have the fireface 800 control the output with the master fader of a mackie control universal pro. I just purchased the mcu recently to use with logic studio and to have the capability to control my itunes and logic output with the mcu fader instead of the software mixer. It is a PITA to control volume with a mouse.
I guess I don't understand how to setup the patchbay in the fireface software. I have read the manual and it is pretty difficult to understand, at least for me.

If you haven't found the answer you're looking for yet, I would first make sure you have the Fireface Mixer setup correctly.
If you have your Dynaudio monitors connected to outputs 7 & 8, you would have to make sure the faders in the Fireface Mixer middle row (Playback section) are sending a signal to the Analog Output of the Fireface Mixer which is the bottom row.
Under every fader in the middle Playback row, you'll see where that fader is sending it's signal to. Since most every program will default to sending signals to the analog outs of the Fireface 800 via Out 1 and Out 2, make sure these outputs are sending their signals out through AN 7+8 since you have your monitors connected to the outputs 7 & 8 of your Fireface 800. Every output channel in the middle row of the Fireface mixer has it's Analog destination so you would just click underneath the fader to change the destination.
After you have that set up correctly you can bring your mackie control into the picture I believe.
