One more question. I tried using the Apple install disk that came with the computer. It's an OS 10.5.6 disk. It does not see my 10.6.8 system internal hard drive to repair. All it see's is itself 10.5.6 disk. Do you think I can use a 10.8+ disk utillity since that is a higher system it will see the 10.6.8. Where the 10.5.6 does not?
I don't want to turn the computer off for fear I'll get the question mark again. P-Ram got me going last time but for how long I don't know? It would be nice to be able to turn the computer off for the night and startup as usual to give it a rest and try to reset itself.
Thanks for your help, I know I will eventually need to re-install. But I am in the middle of a project with tight deadlines and all I can do right now is back-up. Trying to migrate to another computer temporarily to finish the job. That's a lot of extra work in the short time also.
Just trying to put a band-aid on it for another couple weeks.

When I initially try to sign in to iCloud, I get the "Account not verified" screen and I am told to check my email for instructions to verify. No email is ever sent. My ID and password work on all other Apple app's. Why not for iCloud?
I've tried both. First, I tried on my pc, where iTunes had installed iCloud when it last updated. I have iTunes installed on this computer (and on my iPad and iPhone), but that wasn't the issue.
So I went online, thinking I needed a separate iCloud Apple ID, but it prompted me for my current Apple ID and gave me the message about my ID being "valid" but not an iCloud account," which, lol, was what it had asked me to do in order to create one. Windows Live Hotmail: every time I log on to this site for my emails, I have to manually type in my password, instead of Firefox automatically doing it.The tools box for saved passwords shows the right password in the list of saved passwords, so why is this particular password not entered automatically? All other saved passwords are entered automatically in the appropriate website logins. Puzzling!
Are you referring to the SAME computer/login?
If not, he likely has auto-complete (or similar) enabled and you probably do not. -

I receive sales orders by email. I want to filter some to print on my default network printer and others to print on another network printer. The email body must print as well as txt, .pdf, .xls, .doc attachments.
You can filter messages to file them to a certain folder, but I don't think you can have Thunderbird to automatically print them.

Printer settings not working on USB network printer since update to 10.6
I have a Canon Pixma IX4000 that is via USB connected to my server. We all print to it over ‘Printer Sharing’.
Under 10.5 you could use any setting on a computer, print it and the server would pass the settings on.
Since upgrading the server to 10.6 (not the server edition) I can for example no longer print in Grey.
All other computers are still on 10.5.
As a first step I upgrade the driver to the CUPS Printer Driver for OSX (10.26.0) ,as I figured that might be it (is also the only one for 10.6). (http://software.canon-europe.com/products/0010322.asp)
No luck.
Next I updated the drivers on the other machine. No luck.
Any suggestions as to what to do to fix this?
TaHi Uriko - this sounds like something has gone wrong with your routing. I assume that you still have Internet access and the problem is limited to a specific domain.
Can you open your terminal program and type "nslookup URL" where you replace URL with the "specific url" you mentioned in your post.
For example for "nslookup www.demon.net" you get

Address: 212.69.213.230
The last line contains the IP address. Use this instead of the domain name and see whether this works. For example, instead of pointing your browser at "http://www.demon.net/about-us" you would write "http://212.69.213.230/about-us"

anybody knows the solnYour wifi network is not working. Restart it. Delete your wifi settings for this network via System Preferences, Network, WiFi, Advanced. Reconfigure and try again.

My Mac Mail subfolders on my MacBook Air will not sync in alphabetical order. I am assuming it is a setting that I am not finding since my iMac based at my home office is fine, so is my iPad and iPhone. The core source is Exchange.
If you have been using the mac.com Apple ID to make iTunes purchases recently, then there should be no issues continuing to use it with the new iPhone. I would abandon the new ID as you will never get Apple to merge the two IDs. I have had a mac.com ID for years and continue to use it with my iPhone 4S.
Tell us the issues that you encounter trying to set up the iPhone with the mac.com account. -

Without knowing all of the specifics in your situation, you may want to try these options:
- If you have a DTA, and your remote control has a LANG button on it, press it.
- If you have an HD or SD full cable box:

Content is forever tied to the Apple ID that bought it. Apple does not transfer content from one Apple ID to another. Apple does not merge Apple IDs. You will never be able to access your content bought with one Apple ID with a new Apple ID. Your only option is to delete the content and buy it again with the new Apple ID. -
Every time I sync my iPhone with iPhoto I end up getting duplicate photos on my iPhone. The other problem is that I can not delete the dups on my iPhone. Does anyone have an answer to this problem?

Yes I can Add a new Album, but cannot delete an album already created. The delete sign does not appear.
In iTunes the only folder that I can see listed is the man one into which iTunes stores pictures, which I have named iPhone Photos.
When I look on my PC this iPhone Photos folder contains another folder named iPod Photo Cache and a multitude of folders created by iTunes, the named F00, F01,F02 etc etc. and a Photo Database file.
Now whether I create a seperate folder within iPhone Photos to store my favourite photos in, or just copy them all into the iPhone Photos folder without being encased within another folder, or create a folder inside the iPod Photo Cache folder the result is the same ...
I end up with Photo Library plus another album containing an identical set of pictures as contained in Photo Library.

I can use iMessage with all other iPhone users that I communicate with, except for ONE person. When I send to that person, it always goes through as a text message. This person can use iMessage with pther people, but when they send me a message, it always goes as a text. Why can we both communicate with other people using iMessage, but not with one another?

1) If you have OD set up and "editor" has UID 1111, then when they log in to any machine that's bound to OD as editor, they will get UID 1111. Therefore, there won't be any of these permission errors. This is typically the recommended approach.
2) I assume you mean "You'd prefer to not using open directory?" Whatever the case, OD isn't mandatory with Xsan -- it's just that with multiple user accounts, managing them centrally tends to be easier. For 3 or 4 accounts and 3 or 4 machines maybe it's no big deal. If you go larger, it could get a lot more complicated. That said, if you set it up such that each machine has the exact same set of users (as you said, Mary = UID 502, Fred = UID 503, William = UID 504), then you can do what you want. Mary can log in from multiple machines at the same time, and in general you won't have permissions problems. Of course, if you try and read and write the same file from multiple workstations at the same time, you will get file locking issues, which will prohibit somebody from successfully writing the file.
File locking issues are different from general permissions errors. The former basically says "hey, someone else is editing this file. Therefore I won't let you edit it right now... you can read it if you want though." Permissions means somebody saves it, and Xsan thinks you saved it and own the file, when you really don't.

Contact iTunes store support for this. Go to http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ and click the blue link next to the green shopping bag. Follow the steps and send them an email explaining your issue.

Thanks. That tip definitely helps! You just have to be careful when you use the CNTRL button and not highlight the name of the slide as you try to highlight the voices. If you do that, then the drop down box becomes “unclickable”. Unfortunately, when using the control button, it is sometimes impossible not to highlight the name of the slide as well.
