Firefox 1.5 keeps locking up

I installed the latest release of Firefox 1.5. Now, when ever I go to a website that has a search entry, I start to type in the text area, the other previous searches that match my search text popup under it, then I get the multi color busy cursor. I have to force quit EVERYTIME. Any ideas on how I can get an older version of Firefox? I know I should have kept the old one, but who whoud have guessed?
I've seen the problem on the Ebay site, when I try to search for an item. Also on the Apple discussions page when I try to seach for a topic. I haven't tried it everwhere, but these two sites should work.
Anyone else have this problem?

It does not seem wise to use 1.0.4 version, but not sure , nor could i find it that v.specifically.I ended up removing it & sticking with Safari with debug
set.

I just installed 4.0 this morning. Ever since, Hotmail is extremely slow to load, it keeps locking up or not responding.
I thought this was supposed to be faster and more streamlined?
Now, when I try to go back and install 3.6.13 it is no longer available. What gives? I want my old Firefox back.

thanks for making this as painless as possible. Since i upgraded to 8.0, firefox has been locking up REGULARLY. I am wondering if there is a compatibility issue with Windows XP, and if so, what the latest version intended for use with XP is, and how to get it.

I'm running Windows 7 and I have the same problem. There is a solution: Just look for Version 5.01 and stick with it. No more lockups, no more sloooooow bootups. Looks to me like the Mozilla guys just want to crank out new versions and use us as testers.

Firefox keeps locking/freezing up

FireFox 4.0.1 keeps locking up on all web pages: CNN,BBC,NYT,Washington Post,LA Times C-Net, hulu plus many more to mention.
I have tried disabling some or all of the add ons/plug ins
I have uninstalled and reinstalled it no fix.
Checked and updated all plug ins add ons adobe flash ect….
No fix. After it locks up I have to force quit then I get this:

New FireFox 29 upgrade keeps experiencing " Firefox is alreay running" errors.

I'm running Windows 8.1 and was using Firefox seamlessly. Since the upgrade to Firefox 29, it keeps experiencing " Firefox is already running" errors. I then have to end it in task manager to launch it. I've deleted the parent.lock several times with no luck. I've uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox several times with no luck. I'm using Windows firewall and Avast Antivirus. I even uninstalled Avast temporarily, in case it was causing problems, no change. I have Firefox on my daughter computer and it's been upgraded to Firefox 29 as well. Her computer is running Windows 7 and experiencing no problems. Please help, I've resorted to using IE11. I don't like chrome, opera, etc and want to return to Firefox.

Aurora keeps locking up and constantly. 7, 8, up to 9.02. i mean it locks up over 20 times a nite. one after another.

The default of the pref network.http.max-connections has been increased from 30 to 256 in Firefox 6+ versions.
You can try to decrease the value of the pref network.http.max-connections from 255 to a more modest setting like 30 as used in Firefox 3 versions.

How do I block an ad that opens up a new Firefox window and keeps telling me my system performance is poor? I can't even capture the link.

This particular ad, supposedly from a Windows Certified Partner, opens in a second Firefox window and keeps flashing the message that my System Performance is Poor, wanting me to click on their ad and let them do whatever nasty things they want to my system. I have not been able to capture the path but next time it comes up, I will write down all that I can see.
If I have closed my main Firefox screen first, and then close out this ad, the next time I open Firefox, the ad opens and all my standard tabs are gone, requiring me to reopen each one seperately (Facebook, Google, etc).

Just to address the last point: check your History menu to see whether you have the Restore Previous Session option and use that if you can. If that is grayed out or doesn't restore everything, check the Recently Closed Windows and Recently Closed Tabs lists for other pages.
The unwanted window may be generated by an add-on. Try disabling ALL nonessential or unrecognized extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:
* Ctrl+Shift+a
* "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable.
Usually a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.

Here are some other things to check:
(1) user.js file that changes Firefox startup behavior and overrides your preferences. This article describes how to track that down and delete it if you have one: [[How to fix preferences that won't save]].
(2) Possible hijacked shortcut. Check the "target" of the desktop icon you use to start Firefox to see whether it lists the unwanted page. To do that:
right-click the icon > Properties > Shortcut tab
For 64-bit Windows 7, the Target should be no more and no less than this:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe"
(3) Possible undisclosed bundle items. If you have installed any free software recently, check your Windows Control Panel, Uninstall a program for surprises. If you click the "Installed on" column head to group by date, it is easier to spot bundled junk. Remove everything suspicious or unrecognized.
(4) Supplemental clean up scans. Our support article lists tools other Firefox users have found helpful: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware]].
Hopefully that cures it.

If you have problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the DMG file to the desktop

* Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
* Install the new version that you have downloaded

My mac keeps locking up it s Power mac G5 Intel using 10.6.8 OS.X. I get no warning or error messages it just locks up and the only way to get it to work again is to depress power button and restart. Its random intermittent and incredibly frustrating. I do get some screen distortion from time to time and wondered whether it may be a graphics card issue or whether it could be solved with a complete system re-install and OS upgrade?

According to everymac.com, your Mac came with Tiger, 10.4.x and can't go any higher than Lion, 10.7.x.
It would have come with gray, machine specific disks. Since there's no reason to install 10.4.x first, and then Snow Leopard over that, just purchase a retail copy of Snow Leopard for $20. What you won't get with the retail version of SL is the iLife suite (Garage Band, iDVD, etc.) that were on the original bundled disks, but you can purchase iLife on Amazon pretty cheap, and get newer versions besides.
When you get Snow Leopard, you can boot to the DVD, erase the drive and install everything clean. Hopefully, you issue is only software, and not hardware related.

Although I don't use my IE browser frequently, I DO have to use it sometimes. Will there be an update to Firefox 15.0 to correct this issue?

Thank you for trying to help. I followed your instructions, it took 6 hours to download, and then said it could not solve the problem (something to do with error 9?). It will have to go back to Apple - its only 3 days since it came out of the package and its very disappointing for him. I am using iTunes, and trying to set up iMatch, and it keeps locking up iTunes when matching songs to the store and uploading my songs that are not in the store. It just won't finish and basically shuts down iTunes in the process... Apple online support keeps asking me for my serial #, but my main computer is a PC. 1 restore
2 reset by holding home button and off button together for like 10 seconds.
3 go to settings>>general>>auto-lock>>choose never (might work..)
