Firefox 1.x won't open new tabs

I had to avoid using Firefox 1.0-1, and now Firefox 1.0-2, because of the fact that whenever I click "Open window in new tab", it doesn't go to the link, but just opens a new tab, not actually going anywhere. This is getting pretty annoying, and I did try using the PKGBUILD to download the source and make my own mozilla-firefox-1.0-1.pkg.tar.gz file, but this didn't change a thing.
The only way to remedy this is to downgrade to 0.9.3-2, which is the last working one. Also, as I just discovered, I can't use any of the arrow keys in 1.x. Useful.
Is this just my problem, or has anyone else experienced this?

Shouldn't behave like that- but it might be due to a dodgy extension you have installed (there are quite a few of them which hose javascript totally).
Did you try the "simple window" extension? AFAIK it works quite well.

  • How can I make Firefox respect the option to open new tabs in the background? Since 3.x and continuing to Nightly it insists on focusing them immediately?!

Firefox 2.x would open new tabs in the background, but ever since 3.0 it seems to completely ignore this setting.

They only focus for me on the first creation and not when they refresh.

  • Firefox will only open once from desktop and won't open new tabs or windows

When I clicked on Firefox's desktop icon this morning it took a solid 5 minutes for the browser window to open, and at that time I just chalked it up to my computer being slow.
Once it did open I soon encountered the first problem: when I clicked on "Open Link in New Window" or "Open Link in New Tab" nothing happened. Subsequently, when I did navigate to a website I was unable to click on any links whatsoever. I closed the window and tried to restart Firefox which is when I ran into the second problem: it wouldn't open. I opened the Task Manager and terminated firefox.exe, attempted to open via both the desktop icon and program folder but had no luck. If I restart my computer I'm able to open just the one browser window but with the same results of the first issue I mentioned.
I've tried all of Mozilla's troubleshooting tips in the "Firefox will not start" section with no luck. I've also uninstalled then reinstalled with no luck.

  • Firefox won't open new tabs

The little plus next to the tabs does nothing when I press it, going to file and new tab won't open a new tab, and neither does using control t. The only way I can get a new tab to open is to click a link or I have to open a whole new window. How do I fix this?

  • My firefox won't open new tabs with the button or when I press CTRL+t, what is the problem?

I can't open any new tabs what so ever. I tried uninstalling and re-installing, and there was no change.

  • Firefox 31 (Ubuntu) won't open new window or Javascript pop-ups

Hi, I am running Firefox 31.0 in Ubuntu 14.04 having the following problem:
    1) When I click on New Window or New Private Window in the File menu, nothing happens, same with pressing Ctrl-N.
    2) Certain websites are not able to open new windows or pop-up windows through Java or Javascript
(e.g. the command: javascript:popup_imp(...) does not produce anything)
I did try safe-mode and there everything works fine. Then I restarted firefox (several times) with all plugins disabled but still had the same problem, so I don't know what causes the difference between safe-mode and no plugins.
(By the way, there is no problem opening a New Tab by pressing Ctrl-T or from the file menu, the issue is only the New Window and New Private Window).
Is there any other way to narrow down what is preventing the new windows?

    Hi cor-el,
thanks for your answer, however as I explained in my post, safe-mode does not present the problem, but disabling the extensions on its own does not help (i.e with all extensions disabled the problem still is there).
Also, I did not have this problem in the past and I did not change anything graphics related (unless something was changed software-wise internally and I did not notice).
And yes I am currently using the default theme.

  • Links in webviewer won't open new tab or window

I want to link out to a test, which once completed can be closed and one can resume reading. my iOS and android folios work great, webviewer not so much.
Link out works, back button goes to cover, I have tried both buttons and hyperlinks and I have tried both open in the in app browser and open in device browser, all open in same window, no new tab
    I'm game for any workaround.

Hi everyone, I have Snow Leopard 10.6.8. I have been very very frustrated by this problem. [I could not create new windows, and anything that opens new windows, such as trying to see what Add-ons you have etc would not work]. I read about changing screen alignment to the top... I have one screen so the option does not exist. The above messages would not fix this problem. I searched hard and did find a solution in the end. I read stuff about removing Add-ons until the problem is fixed, but its simply not the case.
First of all open Firefox. next go to options: Help --- 'Restart with Add-ons disabled'. Tick the box for add-ons, restart firefox. Next go to Tools --- Add-ons. Next (In the Add-ons Manager' click on 'Plugins' on the left hand side pane. Look for the small blue writing that says 'Check to see if your plugins are up to date'.
Now notice it should say 'Missing Flash'. "For your safety, Firefox has disabled your outdated version of Flash. Please upgrade to the latest version". I followed this, reinstalled Flash and it now works as it always did, no problems. For people where the above fix didn't work, try this one out. Hope it helps people!

Disable or un-install the Ask Toolbar. The Ask Toolbar seems to be incompatible with Firefox 3.6.13. Ask needs to fix the problem.

I have a new MacBook Pro. I am using firefox version 7.0.1, but my homepage is set to google. Firefox constantly keeps opening new tabs to its own homepage by itself. How can I disable this feature.

    Hi [email protected]
If you have set Google to be your homepage, that should be the first one to appear. Are you seeing the Firefox home page when you open new tabs? New tabs should be blank by default. The only reason I've seen Firefox open new tabs with Firefox data on it is after an upgrade of the product.

  • When I click on an active link from another application, it opens the firefox application, but won't open open the page - it just opens Firefox or takes me to Firefox. No new tab or window is opened and the link is not displayed.

When I click on an active link from another application, it opens the firefox application, but won't open open the page - it just opens Firefox or takes me to Firefox. No new tab or window is opened and the link is not displayed.

Firefox sent an email to me to confirm that I had asked the above question. The email had a link to click. When I clicked it from Firefox, nothing happened. Then I opened IE, signed into Comcast, opened the email, clicked the link, and it brought me here.

Since updating last time Firefox will not open new tabs unless I right click on a link. It won't open them via file or the tab at the top of the brwoser or usinf ctrl + t. Anyone know how to fix this?

I can press ctrl for a new tab but otherwise a new tab does not open. I actually need help regarding this new Synch which apparently will be in Firefox automatically in an upcoming version so I am asking how that will synch with people who use LastPass-of course because I use this very successfully and really am not eager to change the set up that I have in place at this time.
I have read through endless FAQ trying to find anyone else who has this question or concern but have found nothing. Can you please tell me how that service will get along with LastPass which does basically the same thing as Synch-it is probably spelled wrong as it looks wrong to me but if I click back to where this issue began, I will lose all of this question so please respond for the upcoming service synch.

  • Firefox won't let me open new tabs. I have restarted, I've done the drop down, I've clicked on the "+" but nothing happens.

I cannot open new tabs & it is really frustrating. I've tried the drop down to open new tab, I click on the + but nothing happens. Can anyone help?

Uninstall the Ask toolbar and it should work again. There is a compatibility issue with the Ask toolbar and Firefox that prevents new tabs from being opened.
There are a couple of places to check for the Ask toolbar:
    * Check the Windows Control panel for the Ask Toolbar - http://about.ask.com/apn/toolbar/docs/default/faq/en/ff/index.html#na4
    * Also check your list of extensions, you may be able to uninstall it from there - https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Uninstalling+add-ons
