Firefox 10.0 for Ubuntu 10.04 doesn't restore tabs

Firefox 10.0 for Ubuntu 10.04 with all latest security patches and updates doesn't restore tabs on restart, it used to until the last update. What's gone wrong?

"Warn me when closing multiple tabs" gives you a warning when you close a window (that contains multiple tabs) by clicking the Cross 'X' button of a window. It doesn't show this warning when you close Firefox by clicking Firefox button -> Quit/Exit or by simply shutting down your system. This is the default behavior in Firefox 4+ versions.
If you want the old Firefox 3 behavior of saving tabs before closing Firefox, perform the suggestions mentioned by '''dankyhelpedyou''' in his first Reply in the following thread:

Check and tell if its working.

  • Firefox Updated and As Usual is Screwed up, Not restoring tabs.

My Firefox just updated and aside from breaking my themes, it now refuses to restore my tabs! I have gone through the options 10 times now and each time I tell it to start with my old tabs it resets to home page............Every time Firefox updates it breaks, I am writing this from Chrome, which at least maintains some continuity.
I was able to grab my sessionstore files so I still have them, but dammit test your code people! The feature to resume tabs etc after restart is a major and long running one in Firefox, make sure it works!!!!!!!
Anyway sorry but this has frustrated me to no end, any help appreciated.

In case you are using "Clear history when Firefox closes":
*do not clear the "Browsing History"
*Tools > Options > Privacy: History: [X] Clear history when Firefox closes > Settings
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Clear+Recent+History
Note that clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, and passwords.
You can check for problems with the sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak files in the Firefox Profile Folder that store session data.
Delete the sessionstore.js file and possible sessionstore-##.js files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note or bookmark them).
Which security software (firewall, anti-virus) do you have?
There shouldn't be normally any problems with files in the Firefox Profile Folder, but some security software keeps a lock on files and that may cause erratic behavior in some cases like an update that requires a restart.

  • Flash 10.2 won't work on Firefox for Ubuntu

    Hi,
I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS and Firefox 3.3.16.
Every time I install Adobe Flash 10.2 (in APT for Ubuntu 9+), it seems to install fine, but the websites I've tried after reloading/restarting all still read "To view this video, please install the latest version of Flash." I've tried unistalling and reinstalling, using different browsers, and even downloading different file versions. Nothing seems to work! Help!
    -PT

I did that, and the plugins page says Firefox is still running Shockwave Flash 10.1 r53, not the new one I installed. I also ran the Firefox "plugin check" and it said I needed to update Flash, but when I clicked on the "update" link, it just takes me back to the original flash download site. Firefox still isn't recognizing the install for some reason....

  • When will firefox be updated for linux ubuntu ?

Compared to Firefox on other OS's this one just don't cut it for me.. it needs to be more compatable to ubuntu.. and an upgrade for flashplayer and java..This version isnot good at all..

Adobe is the one that makes and provides the Flash player plugin for Linux and they currently only support 11.2 esr with security updates.
Firefox does not come with any Plugins with the exception of the OpenH264 video codec provided by Cisco more recently.
Mozilla does not make any packages or updates for Ubuntu version of Firefox as Ubuntu does that. Also Ubuntu is only one of the huge list of Linux distros out there as Mozilla cannot just make it work best for only one in particular.
Mozilla does provide tarballs for 32-bit and 64-bit Linux at www.mozilla.org/firefox/all

  • How do I set the font in firefox 4.0 using ubuntu?

The zoom feature is OK but I want to permanently set the font size on my firefox pages using the Ubuntu operating system. I don't see anything under Tools and there doesn't seem to be a lot of questions previously asked in the Help area about Firefox in Ubuntu.

It's difficult to set a single font size without wrecking the display of most web sites. One alternative would be to store your preferred zoom level and apply that to all sites. This requires an add-on such as:
    * [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/6965/ Default FullZoom Level]
    * [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2592/ NoSquint]
    Does that work for you?

andrek wrote:There's a difference between the new SVN version of the Murrine engine and the Dust theme - you've got to change "profile" into "style" in theme's gtkrc file.
Hrm, I'm not quite sure what you mean.  I don't see "profile" anywhere in the gtkrc - everything seems to be labeled as "style" already.

  • The latest version of Firefox loads with the Ask page and doesn't retain the selected home page. How do I change this?

I downloaded the latest Firefox version. Upon loading it it doesn't retain the previous Home Page setting and always reverts to the Ask page, which is always indicated as the Home Page. This is annoying. How do I overcome this problem?

Firefox did an automatic update to 6.01, and now my middle mouse button is not working in the browser. It doesn't close tabs, it doesn't open new tabs by middle clicking a link, it doesn't allow me to middle click to scroll the page..

[BUG FIXED, see "EDIT 2" at the end of my post]
I'm on Firefox 3.6.21, and I got this problem today after a Greasemonkey update (To version 0.9.10, apparently).
Disabling Greasemonkey solved the problem, and re-enabling it reproduced the problem (middle-clicking links to open in new tab did not work, merely highlighted the link).
I should also note that while Greasemonkey was enabled and the bug was affecting me, Ctrl+Click to open links in new tabs was also broken.
    I hope this helps!
EDIT: It appears this is a known incompatibility/conflict bug between current versions of Greasemonkey and Tab Mix Plus. Read more here:
    https://github.com/greasemonkey/greasemonkey/issues/1406
EDIT 2: GREASEMONKEY HAS NOW BEEN UPDATED with a workaround to fix the problem. Go to https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/greasemonkey/versions/ to install the update manually. It hasn't been reviewed by Mozilla yet, so it won't be an automatic update for another day or two. All credit to "cannonfodder" below for noticing this; please mark his post as helpful!

  • Firefox stops responding for 15s when starting downloads.

Every time I start a new download, Firefox will stop responding for around 15 seconds. During this time, nothing happens, my CPU usage spikes, and many downloads will subsequently fail if they do not support a resume feature. This is extremely frustrating. I have tried reinstalling, disabling add-ons, and clearing my download history daily, all to no avail. I'm tempted to switch back to Firefox 3.x. I know this doesn't apply here, but Nightly does the same thing.
I've got a C2D @ 3.16, 8 GB DDR2 1066, and a WD VelociRaptor 300 GB HDD as my primary (where files are saved temporarily), so I know it's not the system that's struggling.

I managed to solve this problem as my computer has been giving me problems lately and completely froze on me the other day thanks to Game Booster Beta 3 and completely screwed with Windows 7 to the point I almost had to reinstall again, but I managed to fix all my problems and if you would just follow my link here over to my post on Seven Forums then it would be easier then explaining it again.
http://www.sevenforums.com/system-security/180714-windows-7-professional-64-bit-logs-but-almost-frozen-3.html#post1550277 The reason for this is if you shut down your computer while running Firefox, it's possible you corrupted your User Profile for FF and if you follow my instructions you can repair it instead of making a new, so just follow the link, read my post and if you have anymore problems just message me on Seven Forums. Have a nice day and hopefully you get it all fixed. :b

  • How do you get Firefox to ask for proxy username password in a pop up window?

Previously, about a month ago a pop up message would appear when I would connect to my University's wired network proxy to ask me for my password. In Chormium Browser the following message pops up when I log in http://tinypic.com/r/i77lhi/8. A similar thing used to happen in Firefox, but doesn't anymore. I know it is not my proxy settings that are incorrect as I have double checked them and it is only in Firefox that it fails. I have Firefox set to use system proxy settings and this is the setting that is dictated by the University. It is very possible that I changed a setting while tinkering that prevents such message boxes from appearing or uses an old username and password automatically, but I haven't been able to find anything like this.
Help would be greatly appreciated! I am completely stuck on this.
    Thanks
    Jason

  • When i want to go another from a tab,it shows firefox not responding, for a while then opens that tab!this is embarrassing me a lot by taking so much time!!why

I have two inconviniences with fire fox..
1)when i want to go another from a tab,it shows firefox not responding, for a while then opens that tab!this is embarrassing me a lot by taking so much time!!why it happens?
    2) every time when adobe flash player is updated, it shows flash player can't be installed and it crashes! it says 'disable real player' though i never installed real player!!
plz Let me know why it happens to me????

    1. Update firefox to the latest version 2. and disable real player in menu->addons->plugins.
Recent crashes of certain multimedia contents (this includes Youtube videos, certain flash games and other applications) in conjunction with Firefox 13 are most probably caused by a recent Flash 11.3 update and/or a malfunctioning Real Player browser plugin.
In order to remedy the problem, please perform the steps mentioned in these Knowledge Base articles:
[[Flash Plugin - Keep it up to date and troubleshoot problems]]
    [[Flash 11.3 crashes]]
[[Flash 11.3 doesn't load video in Firefox]]
Other, more technical information about these issues can be found under these Links:

    http://blogs.adobe.com/asset/2012/06/inside-flash-player-protected-mode-for-firefox.html
Please tell us if this helped!
Please check if all your plugins are up-to-date. To do this, go to the [http://mozilla.com/plugincheck Mozilla Plugin Check site].
Once you're there, the site will check if all your plugins have the latest versions.
If you see plugins in the list that have a yellow ''Update'' button or a red ''Update now'' button, please update these immediately.
To do so, please click each red or yellow button. Then you should see a site that allows you to download the latest version. Double-click the downloaded file to start the installation and follow the steps mentioned in the installation procedure.

  • I have never been able to use Firefox to view my OWA until I added the IE-Tab Add-on. Was this a known limitation for Firefox?

I have never been able to use Firefox to view my OWA (Outlook Web Access). It always prompts for creds that it doesn't accept anyway. Until I added the IE-Tab Add-on, was this a known limitation for Firefox?

Hi prime_anthony and thank you for asking. I do not think this is a Firefox limitation because I have been accessing my OWA too via Firefox on a Linux machine. I can login using my domain account and password without any problem and without using IE-Tab add-on.
It probably depends on the version of the Outlook Web Access or the Exchange Server. Newer versions of these already have Firefox supported.

You can use the Tab key to select a search engine on the bottom bar and press Enter to use the search engine to do the search.
In the current Firefox 34 release there is a new "one-off" search bar.
This search bar doesn't show the name of the search engine and a logo.
You can type one letter to make a drop-down list appear where you can see suggestions and see the used search engine and that also has bar at the bottom where you can select other search engines that are enabled via the Search tab in Options/Preferences.
You can use the Tab key to select one of the other available search engines and press the Enter key to search with the selected search engine.
Click the search engine icon and click "Change Search Settings" to open the Search tab in Options/Preferences (positioned between Tabs and Content) to select the default search engine and select which search engines to show in the search bar drop-down list that opens when you start typing search terms.

How do I install Firefox 5.1 into Ubuntu 11.4 using a terminal window.

I want to thank you for your time and trouble, however, I had already reviewed the documents you provided links to. I am not versed in Linux and there are details left out. I will return to this when I have more time. I just thought I'd give Ubuntu a try see. I prefer the way Windows installers work - they do the work.
