Firefox 12 doesn't load bookmarks in sidebar, home pages don't open, undo closed tab won't work.

Firefox 11 worked fine. Firefox 12 seemed to install too fast. Now, when opening Firefox, bookmarks don't load in sidebar, even though the top of the sidebar says "bookmarks." Home pages won't load on opening Firefox---only a new tab. Clicking on the little house icon opens the home pages. Display closed tabs icon is dark and Undo closed tabs won't work. Sometimes the toolbar with File, Edit, View etc goes so dark it virtually disappears. I have Vista OS. Reinstalling Firefox 12 didn't help. Is there a fix, or can I go back to Firefox 11?

Do a clean (re)install and delete the Firefox program folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\).
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
*Firefox 12.0.x: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible.
*Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you will also lose your personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

When I want to return to my home page after looking at a website I click on the home icon and it resets the page to my home page but also open a blak tab which i don't want. How can I stop this as I have too many tabs open and have to close all of them.

You may have an unwanted extension that is modifying sites (or the toolbar area). Try this:
Disable ALL nonessential or unrecognized extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+a
    * orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable.
Usually a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.
    Does that flush the tab?
Please report back on anything suspicious you find so others can learn about its bad behavior.

  • How do I get Firefox to open my home page whenever I open a new tab?

I have Google as my home page. Rather than opening a new tab and getting a blank page, I'd like to open a new tab and get Google coming up. I'm fairly certain that this was possible in old Firefox, and would like to know if it is still possible and if so how!?! Thanks!

Firefox can have multiple home pages if you wish. Each home page that will open when starting Firefox is separated by the "|" character.
    See: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/How+to+set+the+home+page
To have new tabs open a specific web site, add one of the following extensions:

  • I have updated latest version 29.0 firefox in windows 7 machine. All the UI looks fine. Undo close tab is not working for me. Is that not been addressed?

Undo Close tab is not working in windows 7 for firefox latest version 29.0

You can do this via CTRL + SHIFT +T as well.
Can you try to start Firefox in Safe Mode to see if Firefox works properly with no error? You can start Firefox in Safe Mode below:
*'''Windows/Mac''': Go to Help > Restart with add-ons disabled
*'''Linux''': Run ''firefox -safe-mode'' in the Terminal/Konsole
If Firefox opens up fine with no problems, it's probably one of your extensions that's causing the issue. You can re-enable your add-ons one by one until you find the one that causes the issue upon being re-enabled.

  • I want firefox to open the home page when i open a new tab instead of a blank page.

whenever i open a new tab, it shows me a blank page. i want firefox to go to my home page as soon as i click on new tab button.

If you want to have a choice of blank or homepage in a new tab, there is a simple way around this.
Open the Customize window and put the Home button on toolbar if not already.
Use the middle-click (scroll wheel on mouse) on Home button to open your homepage in a new tab, whenever you want homepage to load in a new tab.

  • When I click the home button firefox switches to the home page, but also opens a new tab with the firefox startup page.

This is so annoying. I wind up with a bunch of extra tabs that I have to close.

Make sure that you haven't set multiple home pages, separated by a pipe (|) symbol.

  • I am having to use IE to access your site to send you a question about why Firefox is not loading even your own home page? Also can i go back to the previous version of Firefox, as this version (4.0) has a huge number of problems?

It started out as once in a while the page would load, but be blank. Now it is nearly every website I attempt to go shows it loads the page, as the address is listed in the top. it shows the page name in the tab, but the page is blank.
As I said in my question, I am having to contact you on IE, because Firefox won't load it's own pages.
So that you know, it had been years snce I used IE, Since loading 4.0 it has become a daily event.

You might try using the add-on 'NoSquint' which allows numerous zoom options specific to each page you visit & keeps your settings - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/nosquint/
If you want to go back to 3.6x, you will find it here:
    http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
In most cases you can simply "upgrade" (meaning downgrade) directly from the installation. It would be a good idea to save your passwords & bookmarks just to be on the safe side.

  • Why doesn't Firefox go to my Home page when I open a new tab? It used to.

It should at least be a selectable option

was there really a large selection of the population who preferred a useless blank page over the homepage they have chosen themselves??? And every solution I read suggests "middle clicking" the home button. I DON'T HAVE A MIDDLE BUTTON. Ctrl-clicking is ridiculous for something so simple, I prefer using CTRL T to open new tabs. I'm not saying it should be default but they could have at least made it an option.

  • 3.6.6 won't load pages into frame - opens in new Tab - IE 8 works OK

See http://www.tmrci.com - pages won't load in "main" Frame (lower right quadrant) - opens new Tab. Running 3.6.6 Firefox. Problem not an issue in IE8 on same machine. Client O/S is XP Home w/ SP3.

When I go to the following page:
    http://www.medicinenet.com/uveitis/article.htm#
I select the EYE DISEASE slide show and it takes me to a brand new window with a single tab that reads "Untitled". This happens anytime I click on a link that is supposed to take me to a different location or open any window. I've changed and played around with all settings in preference but nothing.
What are the right settings. I have had to do LIVE CHATS with my bank but when I click to CHAT, which usually opened a small popup window or when I click on Contact so that I can see that information, the same thing happens and it's getting quite frustrating.

  • DON;T WANT TO GO TO HOME PAGE WHEN I OPEN NEW TAB

HOW DO I STOP GOING TO HOME PAGE WHEN I OPEN A NEW TAB? I DON'T WANT TO GO TO HOME PAGE WHEN I OPEN A NEW TAB, I WANT TO SEE A BLANK PAGE, THEN I CAN PUT IN THE URL OF MY CHOICE. I ONLY WANT TO SEE HOME PAGE WHEN I OPEN FIREFOX, OR WHEN I SELECT IT USING THE HOME PAGE BUTTON.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

  • Firefox doesn't display bookmarks in the sidebar, only in the menu bookmark. It doesn't display bookmarks in the "organize" bookmarks. It doesn't save tabs on exit. Problem began with 3.6.6

FF 3.6.6 doesn't display bookmarks in sidebar, but a search in the sidebar shows they are still there. It does display them from the menu bar. It doesn't display bookmarks in the "organize bookmark" display. It doesn't save tabs on exit. Doesn't save browser screen size.

With so many issues with your current profile it would be better to try a new profile.
Be careful with what you copy to that new profile and it sounds that at least you have problem with places.sqlite and maybe prefs.js and localstore.rdf as well.
First test that new profile without copying files and installing extensions.
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems
See [[Basic Troubleshooting|#Make_a_new_profile|Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile]]
There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins"
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files)
    See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_data_to_a_new_profile_-_Firefox

  • Firefox doesn't load/run/start at all.

Firefox doesn't load/run at all. Never had any problems with Firefox before until today.
My spyware warned me about a potential risk of a website asking for permission when browsing on Firefox...I clicked decline. Since then Firefox closed and won't start at all (a load icon begins to appear then nothing else happens. ''' Nothing'''). I don't know if it crashed or not as I didn't receive a crash report (not that I'd be able to access it anyhow I think). It just randomly shut down and since then won't start.
I have restarted my computer, scanned my computer, turned off the firewall, reinstalled Firefox, attempted to run in safemode - none of these options correct the problem. It literally just does not start! It's not running as a hidden process/application either as I've look through my control pannel. Any help would be most appreciated.

Make sure that you allow pages to choose their colors and that you haven't enabled High Contrast in the Accessibility settings.

  • When I click on a link in Thunderbird, Firefox 4 starts, but just shows the home page, not the page I clicked for

When I click on a link in an email in Thunderbird, Firefox 4 starts, but only shows the home page(s) not the page of the link

I think i've found how to fix this issue when it appears. Don't know what caused it to happen, but that's up to the devs.
In Thunderbird, you need to re-register http and https to make them open with Firefox (or open well with firefox in this case).
    How to to this?
Well... open the about:config in thunderbird. You can achieve this by clicking configuration-editor in the advanced tab.
search for the strings: network.protocol-handler.warn-external.https and network.protocol-handler.warn-external.http. Set both to "true".
The next time you click on a link from within Thunderbird, it will ask you to set wich program you'd like to open it with.
Be Aware now!!! Firefox may already be listed in there, but don't pick that one. instead... choose to browse for the app and point to the binairy/exe of firefox.
    (for example: /usr/bin/firefox or c:/program files/mozilla/firefox.)
You will notice that firefox now does open up with the page you just clicked on.
If it doesn't right away... just restart thunderbird and check again.
Please respond if this works for you too on all platforms. It's more interesting to know it does than if it's not.
    Greetz,
    Kenny

When I open a second tab in Firefox, it does not go to my home page. Instead it goes to a page that displays what looks like a collection of pages (or links) that I have visited in the recent or distant past. I would much rather have it go to my home page which is much more useful to me. I have tried to change this in 'Options' but with no luck. Please fix this.
