Firefox 13.0 Nokia N9

I keep trying to download firefox 13.0 from Ovi and I get repeated "download failed errors"
First I tried the software update with errors, so I deleted Firefox 12.0 from my N9 and tried a new download from OVI, still over and over "download error"  I went to bed, tried again.  I turned on developer mode just to try, but still "download error with the package"
Anyone out there able to download this software, I use it as my main browser and upset I deleted 12.0

i had some many issues with this as well.
it finally installed. i think it had to do with the version number and an additional lib file that was not downloading correctly. it was made obvious by the file name showing the 13, but the installation was still showing 12, and then finally would just crash.
here is what i did...you will need to be sure that you enable developer mode on your device if you have not done so (settings/security/developer mode/toggle on) [this will not hurt your device if you have not done so before. just be sure to follow my directions]
first, i tried to install from ovi store...it errored over and over, though it did show the download in the /var/cache/apt/archives/partial folder.
second, i tried to close ovi store and use filebox to go to: /var/cace/apt/archives/partial and tap the file to install. it would begin to install, but eventually would error out and just go back to the filebox.
third, i deleted firefox 12 by tapping and holding on the icon, then tapping the red "x" after that, i rebooted and tried to open filebox to /var/cache/apt/archives/partial and tap the file again, only to have another error.
fourth, and this worked:
open terminal and used these commands:
devel-su
rootme
apt-get clean
apt-get autoclean
apt-get update
apt-get install -f
apt-get autoremove
you may see some errors, or files missing. ignore this. be sure to type "y" after it requests for the autoremove. this is going to uninstall some resident files that firefox 12 left behind that seem to be creating the issue in conflict.
after it is complete. close terminal.
open filebox
var/cache/apt/archives/partial/
tap on the fennec_13 and it should start to install. you may see some errors that say something like cannot becuase another install.... just tap ok.
it should complete, and now you should have firefox 13.
you can check by launching firefox, swyping left, tapping the settings icon, about firefox "go to page" and at the bottom, it should say fennec/13.0
for the life of me, firefox has seemed to always have issues for me when updating, even on maemo. I hope they fix it.
hope this helps some of you.

I am a great fan of Firefox and cant wait to experience the Firefox OS.
I have Nokia 5800 XM and Samsung Monte.
I would be glad if any of this can be used to run Firefox OS.

    Thanks for reply,
Do you suggest any other ideas to make use of such old phones.
As far as I knew Firefox was meant for feature phones utilising the power of web with minimal resources.

Nokia E71 Using Symbian S60 OS.If Firefox Mobile Did Not Work on Nokia E71 I Appeal For Make A Browser That Work on Nokia E71.Thank You!

It will not work on the Nokia E71. Currently Firefox mobile is only being created for the Maemo OS used on the Nokia N900 and for certain Android based phones. There are currently no plans for a Symbian based version of Firefox.

  • Hi,I use Nokia Suite 3.4.49 and Firefox 15.0,before update from Firefox 14.1 to 15 and now,I cant sync my firefox bookmarks with Nokia Suite,as you know in fir

Actually, it has nothing to do with locking to their network. That's a totally different problem altogether that's independent from the branding.
What's happening here is altering the firmware so that it contains Three's logo and links to some of their services in the menu. Plus maybe a few alterations to maintain compatibility with the network, although they should be minor since unbranded phones will work on Three.
The trouble with making these alterations to updated firmware is that it takes time and therefore money to do it, and they get nothing in return. That's why it's such a low priority for network operators to approve updates.

  • Nokia PC Suite upgrade installs Firefox Extension

    Dear Nokia
I upgraded my Nokia PC suite today. After installing the upgrade, I opened my browser, and was surprised to see that Nokia has thoughtfully added a piece of crapware to my list of Firefox extensions.
    1. Commercial software developers must acknowledge that the computer belongs to the user. As such, the user has the right to choose what software to install on his machine (discussion of 'Green Dam' is beyond the scope of this post). Installing software without first asking the user deprives him of this right, and may result in annoyance.
    2. If a piece of software has several components, some of which are optional, the installation process should ask the user which components should be installed. Failure to do so may annoy the user.
    3. If software A is planning to modify pre-existing software B in any way, software A needs to ask the user's permission, as it may well break software B in the process. Failure to do so may annoy the user.
    4. It has been documented that extensions may introduce security vulnerabilities into the browser (cf. Greasemonkey's GM_xmlhttpRequest). I'm sure that Nokia's SDLC is CMMI Level 5 and that they never release software with defects (hmmm), but if a virus were to be distributed through Nokia's extension, one can rest assured that the user will be annoyed.
I elected to install Nokia PC Suite v 7.1.30.9. I was not notified that the installation would include a Firefox extension, and thus had no option to opt-out. Installing software without obtaining the user's prior permission is a serious grievance, especially when doing so may affect another programme and/or introduce security vulnerabilities. This attitude, to my mind, smacks of arrogance, and I think it goes without saying that I am seriously annoyed. A quick Google will demonstrate that I am not alone in my annoyance.
It is thus recommended that Nokia allow the user to choose whether or not to install the PC Sync 2 Synchronisation Extension when upgrading PC Suite. Until that is effected, I suggest the following remedial process.
    1. Close Firefox.
    2. Delete the key HKLM\SOFTWARE\Mozilla\Firefox\extensions\[email protected]
    3. Delete the folder %programfiles%\Nokia\Nokia PC Suite 7\bkmrksync

I'd like to start this post saying :
THIS HAS BEEN KNOWN ISSUE FOR  A LONG TIME!
Thank You for the tip. I'm at situation where Nokia software has been removed. Folders deleted and as far as windows search can tell string "bkmrksync" can not be found from filenames in system drive. Regedit does not find the key either. All of this for my friend needed to do something with the software. Not so surprisingly he told me that the sofware was not capable of the doing the tasks he wanted. Is there anything else to do but stuff my comp full of explosives and send it to Nokia for I really do agree on the annoyance part.
I'd like to end this post saying :

  • How to download and install SEO Quake for Firefox, I have problem.

Seo Quake will not install to my laptop. I use Firefox browser

Yes, a Nokia Care Center is the Final solution if the website can't offer any solution. Thanks for the feedback. Actually, my phone is still in Warranty, that's why I'm pretty sure that I don't have to pay for the services that will be perform. But still I'm into looking other solution to prevent bringing my phone to Nokia Care.
First, I had already an experience with the Nokia Care Center when I have repair my 1st N96 which took a month but they failed to repair, thus my service provider, Smart Communications, just replace the device with a new one.
Next, my location is far from the Nokia Care Center.
Finally, I opt to save all my files, with the device which is almost 95% full or 14.8GB.
Please help if there's any other option...

  • How can i install firefox on my nokia6220 classic

  • I installed Beta 2 and it froze on the epub add on. I uninstalled it installed again same thing. unistalled then installed 1.1 removed epub then uninstalled and reinstalled beta 2. just freezes on 1st page. can I COMPLETELY remove to reinstall?

I have installed the FF4 Beta 2 and intially it worked well. I then went to add ons and it froze on full screen with epub. I have the screen shot if its any good. It sfull screen and has rss feed symbol in top left of screen then underneath Whats new - epub reader underneath Version 1.3.0.3 then underneath that its says bugfixes in some cases FF4 crashed when an ebook with epub reader was loaded and tabs where switched.
Anyway I uninstalled beta 4 then installed 1.1 and removed epub reader. Then reinstalled FF4 B2 but it just freezes on opening.
For the short whle I used Beta 2 it looked great speed wise compared to earlier versions.
I think if I was to be able to completley remove firefox and do a claen install it may work.

It sounds like you are using Firefox for Maemo (Nokia N900).
If you want a completely clean install, you can get rid of your old profile by typing this command into the X Terminal app before starting Firefox:
    '''cd .mozilla; mv fennec fennec.bak'''
(That will move your existing profile to a backup location, so a new one will be created. This will hide all your bookmarks, history, cookies, and add-ons, but you can restore the old profile from the backup if you need to.)

  • N97 V21 browser viewing this site...

Has anyone from Nokia tried accessing the discussions here with their own N97 V21 browser?
    It looks terrible!
For a starter the log on panel to the right is misaligned and the boxes you have to select and type your name and password into are invisible. You have to stab about with your finger randomly in the area you've seen them on a "real" desktop browser and hope you get lucky!
There are numerous other rendering issues, but they just make the page look like poo, the hiding username/password boxes would be a show stopper if you hadn't seen the page on a desktop machine before.
Ironic that one of Nokia's own sites is possible the worst rendering site I've ever seen on my N97!

That Bolt is pretty good, I like it.
OVI suite couldn't work out how to install the double signed app, it popped up saying it was going to install it onto the connected N97, and then nothing happened.
Copying it onto mass storage and then executing the jar on the N97 installed it correctly.
Re the bad rendering of this site, sure I appreciate Nokia are just using a commercial forum web package, but it's pretty bad they pick one that renders so badly on their own products! Could you imagine the fuss if the Microsoft site didn't work properly in IE and had to be accessed in Firefox?!
Nokia - More quality control... In all part of your business - Apart from the N97 getting run over by a Landrover test, I've done that one, it did damn well!

  • Some thoughts....

So I installed the Firefox on my Nokia N900. It looks great but I found it to be slower than the default browser MicroB.
    - Any ideas how to make it faster? (or maybe there is some new build on way)
    - Is it possible to have the top bar drop when i click on it (since it scrolls with the page). (addon maybe)
    == Extensions installed: ==
    None

We're working on the speed. MicroB, the Nokia browser, uses a GTK-based UI with a separate content process. That allows it to be faster, but keeps it from using the same extension model as Firefox. One of the main areas for future work on FF for Maemo is moving to a multiple process model where we keep the same extensible UI using the Gecko framework we have now, but we move the actual page rendering and plugin handling to a separate process so it can run without interfering with the responsiveness of the UI.

  • Have a Nokia 6700 (Firefox is my Browser) Can I use Firefox on it.

In addition to above my network is O2 would I be able to add firefox to the Bt yahoo e-mail section of it or the Web section of it.

If this is the Nokia 6700 slide then no as it uses '''Symbian OS''' 9.3 and also has a slow 600 Mhz ARMv6 type of cpu and only 128 MB Ram anyways even if it did have Android instead.

    Symbian
We currently have no plans to develop a full Firefox browser for the Symbian platform. See Mobile/Symbian for notes from an inactive project to port Firefox to Symbian. However, a future version of Firefox Home may be available for Symbian.

I have nokia 5130 xpress music. Why I can't install firefox in my phone.

    Hi 08ik,
Unfortunately, the Nokia 5130 is a feature phone (a.k.a, a "dumb" phone). Firefox will currently only run on smart phone devices that operated by Android.
Firefox is compatible with Android 2.1 and above devices with hardware requirements recommending at least 512 MB of RAM.
You can see a list of all supported devices here: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/mobile/platforms/
