Firefox 15 does not update silently
We switched from using a GPO to dole out Firefox installs to installing the standard version on our user's machines, because of the silent update feature, but my inbox has been flooded with "Firefox is asking me to update to 16, and says I need admin approval"
All of the installations were installed using default settings that included automatic updates using the background service. Is there any other way I can change this so users will receive the silent updates?
If the users don't have Admin permissions on their machines they can't install Firefox updates. You can either give users Admin permissions locally, or keep using a GPO.

Firefox does not update after downloading updates on restart. How to fix?
For quite some time now I receive the auto-notification that an update is ready to download. I proceed with the download and restart Firefox, yet the browser never updates. How do I fix this short of doing manual downloads every time?
MacBook Pro Mac OS 10.6 FF v 10.0Thanks for your reply, Matt. I already read the knowledge base article, and it doesn't specifically address my issue. The update IS being downloaded, yet it is not updating the FF app - even on restart. As I indicated in my initial question, I've been experiencing this for the last year. To finally upgrade to v.10.0 I had to download a fresh copy of FF. Now, again, for the last two updates that I've been notified on - 10.1 and 10.2 I've followed the same procedure - allowed the downloads, did the restart and NO UPDATE to the app.

Try updating using an iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) installer file downloaded from the Apple website:

I am trying to use a website that requires that my computer have the latest version of Java, which I have updated and installed Java 7 Update 51 (64-bit), however Firefox does not recognize that I even have Java on my computer. My computer is 64-bit
When I run "Verify Java Version" it show nothing is installed... but it is, I know that for a fact because it shows in my "Control Panel/Programs/Programs and Features".
When I go back to the Java Download page, the following message is visible:
"We have detected you may be viewing this page in a 32-bit browser. If you use 32-bit and 64-bit browsers interchangeably, you will need to install both 32-bit and 64-bit Java in order to have the Java plug-in for both browsers."
My question is this:
Is there a way to change my Firefox browser from 32-bit to 64-bit.... because it appears that this is way Java is not functioning properly?Firefox needs 32-bit plugins, so you'll need to install 32-bit Java for Firefox.
No, you can't change Firefox from 32-bt to 64-bit. There is a Nightly 64-bit version (alpha) of Firefox, but it is used only to test for regressions until development is resumed. -
Firefox does not start up after an automatic update. Every time i try to open it, it just prompts the Mozilla Crash Reporter.

Same thing happens when i click restart.
No difference when i run it in Safe mode. And it won't let me create a new profile either. Is there anyway else i can extract my bookmarks? This is driving me crazy!Did the crash reporter send any crash reports?<br />
You can see the crash reports in this folder:
"C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Crash Reports"
See: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Breakpad
See also [[Firefox crashes when you open it]]
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.<br /><br />
See [[Basic Troubleshooting#Make_a_new_profile|Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile]]<br /><br />
There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins"<br /><br />
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files)<br /><br />
See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_data_to_a_new_profile_-_Firefox<br /><br />
If that still causes the same problem then do a clean reinstall and remove the Firefox program folder.
* Download a fresh Firefox copy from http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html and save the file to the desktop.
* Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
* Don't remove personal data when uninstalling.
* It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.

Current platform : Linux
Current firefox version : Firefox 4 beta 12
Issue : does not update to RC 1 using the check for update feature.
Background : previously downloaded beta 8 and then it automatically updated to beta 12 using update features but for RC1, it does not.
I know users under Windows platform had same problem but was resolved and they can now update via check for update feature.
Please implement for Linux users too.
Thanks !!If you can't update then you can download and install the full Firefox 4 RC version.

This problem did not exist under the previous version of Firefox. One can access Yahoo finance my portfolio ok but even with streaming quotes on the portfolio does not update.
Problem now solved. It was an issue of the Kaspersky root kit certificateI don't know if it matters, try this url instead, which is a secured one (https):

Firefox Sync does not update automatically when I add a new bookmark.
I use one desktop and one notebook at the same time. Firefox Sync does not update bookmarks between my desktop and notebook when I add a new bookmark from one device or the other. Firefox Sync only updates when I manually sync my data from each device. When I used Google Chrome, the Sync feature updated my bookmarks almost instantly. Is there any way I can make Firefox automatically sync whenever I update my bookmark?
Your imported bookmarks from IE should all be in one folder named "From Internet Explorer". The imported Bookmarks are kept separate for easier identification by the user. You can move them to other folders outside of that folder if you wish; you can also delete any duplicates that you may have placed into Firefox Bookmarks/folders before the import.

You can try to disable OMTC and leave hardware acceleration in Firefox enabled.

Firefox does not open to "maximized" after updating add-ons and performing the restart
After checking for any updates to installed add-ons and, if there should be an update(s) available, and ... after performing the download of the update(s) with a "RESTART FIREFOX" is needed ... Firefox does not restart/reopen to MAXIMIZED. I have to manually maximize Firefox.
This problem ... I suspect ... is only when I am using Windows XP Home w/SP3. This problem does not occur when I use Firefox on Ubuntu (Linux). So now, I don't know if there is a problem with Firefox using Windows XP or that the problem is with Windows XP using Firefox. In any case, I will not just do the extra clicking to maximize Firefox after updating the addons and such. Thanks anyway.
