Firefox 16.0.2 crashes on my macbookpro that runs on 10.6.8; It causes such a freeze that it takes several times to restart my computer.
Over a week ago, my computer kept crashing. I thought at first it was Firefox, and I followed some instructions on the website to accommodate my operating system and computer model. My screen only kept freezing, and it took longer to turn on my computer. It would take about 7 times of restarting before I would fully attain a rebooted system. Then soon enough, it would freeze again. I brought it into a mac dealer who fixed the unit through disc warrior thinking it was solved, and it was not. Then they told me that my hard drive was damaged and I had to replace it. When I returned to pick up my model, it froze at the desk. They then said the ram was damaged and they fixed it for free. Tonight, at my second time on Firefox, it just went crazy on the screen and then froze. It took seven tries to turn on my machine. I can only think that the Firefox that I have is infected, and it has to be replaced, or else that the operating system that Firefox is currently distributing isn't compatible with my computer and operating system.
Another thing that is probably relevant now that I think of it:
I forgot that the xcode_3.2.6_and_ios_sdk_4.3.dmg file would not open on it's own. It would get all the way through the verification process and then display "invalid checksum". I had selected Skip to bypass the verification process in the hopes that it would install anyways. Just ejected it and tried to verify it again, same "invalid checksum" error.
I've looked for solutions online and everybody just says to keep downloading it/have a wired connection and to use Safari... I've downloaded the thing 5 times now meeting both of those requirements and the exact same issue occurs every time.

Hi everyone
Ever since my iphoto library crashed (ran out of space without warning) my mcbook pro has been slow, unresponsive, freezes in sleep mode and won't restart...
I've since backed everything up on an external hard drive, removed the corrupt library, even reinstalled the operating software and there is now hardly anything on the hard drive, it still runs painfully slow. If I close the lid which puts it in sleep mode, it either doesn't go into sleep mode but instead the battery just gets drained and I find it completely empty of power (it won't start again unless plugged in), or it goes into sleep mode but just freezes when I try to reopen.
In iphoto (reinstalled) but even other applications it is painfully slow, not like a mac at all!
I am trying to go to genius bar with it but thinking maybe someone in this forum can help...
Many thanks
AndreHave you tried SMC and PRAM resets?

often for no apparent reason the computer crashes and nobody available to any command (keyboard or mouse), the images disappear. I am forced to shut down and restart the computer.
open console in Applications>Utilities, check the system log for the date/time of the last problem for clues.

Every time I restart my computer, Firefox makes me "re-activeate" or "re-enable" my add-on's . This is a major pain, and is at the point where I am about to dump FF and move to Chrome. How can I stop the insanity.
If this is happening to all your add-ons:
Firefox stores the information about whether you've seen the prompt about add-on compatibility in a pref:
[email protected]
What may be going on is that something is preventing Firefox from saving that preference and so it keeps triggering the prompt. Go to Help > Troubleshooting Information and click the Show Folder button next to "Profile Directory". Look for a file called prefs.js -- right click on it and select properties. Make sure it's not read-only or locked in any way.
There are other suggestions in the [[Preferences are not saved]] article if that doesn't help. -
In an earlier version of Firefox, when I went to close it, I would get a prompt "save tabs and quit?" that allowed me to see the same websites open from the last time I closed the computer. Where is that feature on the new version of Firefox?
Firefox 4 and later versions save the previous session automatically, so there is no longer need for the dialog asking if you want to save the current session.<br />
Use "File > Exit" or "Firefox > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit Firefox") if you want to restore multiple windows or otherwise have problems with restoring tabs.<br />
You can use "History > Restore Previous Session" to get the previous session at any time.<br />
You may need to click the orange/gray Firefox button to see History.<br />
There is also a "Restore Previous Session" button on the default <b>about:home</b> Home page.<br />
Using the "Show my windows and tabs from last time" setting is a more reliable way to restore session data.

Has firefox been hacked? It is freakin me out & I am going to switch browsers if this cant be corrected.
This issue can be caused by an extension that isn't working properly.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

I bought a new computer. I installed Firefox 7.0 then updated to 8.0. When I was finished with Firefox, I closed it. Later when I attempted to open it I was greeted with the message Firefox is already running. It suggested I restart the computer. I did so and continued to receive the same message. Surely, shutting the computer off should close Firefox. I have to use Internet Explorer to contact you.
Sounds like Firefox is "hanging at exit". That problem is frequently caused by an Extension or a Plugin. Read all of the following articles.<br /><br />

Even though I move it to the trash, it keeps showing up on my desktop after every restart. It's like a zombie that just won't die.
Maybe it is not Firefox that is doing that, but some security software that is restoring the desktop to its previous appearance.

Recent Update has messed up my firefox browser. If I set a new homepage, the next time I turn-off then turn on my computer the homepage is reset to default. Any sort of setting I change, reverts to default if I turn off my computer and turn in on again. Please advise!
Please see the KB article at:
It explains what to do if your preferences are not being saved.
You may want to check that you have the latest updates. To check go to:

Hello!
I have had my Macbook Pro for less than 2 weeks. About an hour ago I turned it on and clicked on Safari. A pop up appeared...the usual "Congratulations! You are the Winner of.." etc etc. I have not downloaded anything from an unreliable source. I have quite honestly turned on the computer less than 10 times since getting it. The pop up prevents me from browsing the internet.
Please help! I did not think I would run into problems with the laptop so soon.
Thank you.
J.The Lion OS has a new feature that returns you to a "previous state" the next time an application is opened.
You can stop this behavior by holding down the option key when quiting an app or hold down the shift key when you launch an app. -
firefox regularly disables right click, bookmarking, etc and then I cannot even close it so I have to log off and log back on or restart my computer to fix it, then it happens again, ALWAYS happens, ALWAYS.
I just reset....

Every time I restart the computer and try to install firefox the same message keeps appearing. I attempted to uninstall the earlier version of firefox using "programs and features" in windows but the same message came up and thus I was unable to uninstall using that method. I have used a third party uninstall program which appeared to delete all traces of firefox including registry entries but I still have the same problem.
I am now in the position of not being able to load any version of firefox. HELPSame problem here. I installed version 4.0, then removed it and tried to install 3.6. Now no version Firefox will not install. I keep getting a message that I have to restart my computer in order for updates to a previous version can be installed.

Last night, as I was asleep, my computer restarted automatically, most likely due to an update of some sort. Usually, that is not a problem, as everything works just fine afterwards. HOWEVER, this time, it was not the case. Since it restarted, Firefox (3.6) refuses to start properly, and crashes immediately.
I can see the white page popping up for a split second before getting a message saying that it crashed, and that I should send a report. I tried looking at the help FAQs on this website, about how I should be able to get a code for that specific crash's details. The problem is, however, that my last submitted report, according to my computer, is in june 2010, and we're currently in september 2010.
I still tried to refresh after the report has been completed, but nothing. So I figured I'd try to check in the details of that latest report, but 'lo and behold, it doesn't work, even though I followed the explanations provided on this website perfectly.
I did try to restart my computer again, and even download the latest Firefox version again, and reinstall it (even though that's what I had), but to no avail. It still does the same thing.
At the moment, I am using explorer, and would very much like to be able to use Firefox again, as I have most of my bookmarks in there and usually prefer to use Firefox, although I've been having other issues with it lately. I don't think they're related to the constant crashes, but if you insist on me sharing those, then I shall do so.Can you start Firefox in [[Safe mode]] ?
You can also do a clean reinstall and download a fresh Firefox copy from http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html and save the file to the desktop.
Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
You can initially skip the step to create a new profile, that may not necessary for this issue.

Why is my Firefox 4.0.1 crashing and deleting my browsing history and bookmarks?
This is the third time in the past month and a half that my Firefox 4.0.1 has crashed and deleted both my browsing history and my recent bookmarks. It seems to delete up to about a week's worth of information.
In the past, my Firefox browser would crash, but it would at least retain my last entered information (but that was the older version of Firefox); so this is something entirely new. I updated to 4.0.1 about two months ago, hoping that this would be better, but these random, information deleting, crashes are driving me crazy! I'm hesitant to download the new 5.0 version for the fear that these crashes will get worse...but mainly because I love Hypertext too much and I don't want to lose it to the upgrade.
I had read that one of the options to identifying the problem is to post a crash I.D.; however, when I searched for my latest crash reports, it doesn't show either of the two crashes that concerns me. So I'm even more curious to what this problem might be. I can tell you some of the key behaviors before it crashes:
* It begins to lag (slower than snail pace).
* It's almost impossible to click from one tab to the other (even if I only have two tabs open).
* My comp's physical memory spikes.
* The browser window will sometimes freeze and shut down the whole program, but this time (today), the window closed on its own.
* When I'm forced to close Firefox from my Task Manager, sometimes I actually have to restart my computer before I'm able to use the browser again.
* The crash happens randomly. I haven't noticed a crash pattern based on websites that I visit.
I hope someone can help me. I would really like this remedied. It just sucks having spent so much time bookmarking research material, just to have all of it wiped away without a reason.Try to update to the latest Firefox 12.0 version.
You can find the latest Firefox release in all languages and for all Operating Systems here:

See:
* http://kb.mozillazine.org/gfx.color_management.mode
* https://developer.mozilla.org/En/ICC_color_correction_in_Firefox
Caveats: The new QCMS color management system introduced in Firefox 3.5 currently only supports ICC version 2 color profiles, not version 4.
You can set the gfx.color_management.enablev4 pref to true on the about:config page and close and restart Firefox to enable ICC V4 support in Firefox 8+, but that feature is not yet fully implemented, so there may be problems in some cases.

Firefox 3.6.6 Crashes as soon as I open it.
I am having a problem with Firefox 3.6.6.
This is a fresh install on Windows 7 64 bit, first thing I did is install Firefox, but I can't even open it without it crashing. As soon as i click the open button it takes a few seconds and before I can even see the Firefox browser itself, a crash report pops open.
This is what the Crash report details say:
