Firefox 16 will not close in mac 10.6.8

I am using a MacBook (MacBook6,1)
Mac OS X v 10.6.8
Firefox 16.0.2
When I close or quit Firefox the windows will disappear however the program will continue.
I have to do a "Force Quit" to get it to completely shutdown.
This seams to happen more the longer Firefox is running or it the computer had gone to sleep and is woken up.

Hello carl.johnson47, a problematic extension can cause same problem, which can be resolved by disabling or uninstalling the extension see: Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems

• Firefox browser will not close, even when using ctrl/alt/del

I downloaded the 4.0 beta firefox today, and have been using it most of the day with good success. Then I noticed when I closed the browser, the icon stayed active on my task bar. I clicked the icon and the browser reappeared on my screen. I tried several times to close it, the last time using ctrl/alt/del and task manager to cancel it. Nothing worked. I have a Dell Studio 1749 with Windows 7 , 64 bit, which may be the sorriest OS since Windows Millennium. Any help I can get would be greatly appreciated.

Isn't it {Shift+Ctrl+ESC} to open the Task Manager in Win7?? I know it was changed to that key combination in Vista.

• Firefox repeatedly will not close when signing out of my MAC

as above plus I get regular error messages that tells me how embarassed firefox is because it can't restore the tabs

Also, there is a "bug" in Firefox 20 on Mac OS X where if you close all the pages and then Quit Firefox (or shut down without quitting Firefox), it thinks it crashed and starts with the crash recovery screen on the next startup.
Two workarounds until this is fixed:
(1) Quit Firefox with at least one page open before shutting down your Mac; or
(2) Don't try to restore the previous session after a crash. Here's how that is changed:
(i) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
(ii) In the search box in that tab, type or paste sessions and pause while the list is filtered
(iii) Double-click browser.sessionstore.resume_from_crash to toggle its value from true to false.
This should be fixed in a future release of Firefox.

• How can I get rid of a frozen updates window? I tried uninstalling/reinstalling latest software/rebooting. Window shows up whenever I try to open Firefox and will not close.

When I try to open Firefox I get an updates window for Cool Iris and Cool Previews. Options for 'skip', 'install,' 'more info,' 'x' to close window, nothing responds. I have to use the Mac 'Force Quit' command to close Firefox and get it off my screen. Can't minimize it either.

Do you have that problem when running in the Firefox SafeMode? <br />

• Firefox 11 will not update on Mac OS

Firefox asks to update on iMac OS Snow Leopard. If I click on the link it doesn't complete download. If I download 13.0.1 separately, it doesn't install.

Try this:
1. Download a copy of the latest firefox from http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
2. Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean install.
3. Install the version that you have downloaded.
Do not select to remove your personal data, your profile data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks or other personal data.

• Firefox 4 will not close no matter how I try to do it. I have windows xp. What can I do?

I just installed version 4 yesterday and the problem began immediately.

Hi Tim,
Have a look at the article I linked to especially the section on hangs at exit and also to the article firefox is already running but is not responding.
There are several possible causes of this sort of problem, and you could also have problems with restarting Firefox properly, or saving changes. Creating an additional profile may be useful, at least as a troubleshooting step, although you need to be careful if the profile is used more permanently, because it is easy to inadvertently delete the wrong profile information, and is not entirely straightforward if you need to try migrating profile information. If you do create a new profile I suggest you give it a simple name like trial1profile but then do not delete or rename that profile unless you are absolutely certain about what you are doing.
[profiles folders retain the name even if the profile is renamed, <br />and deleting a single profile may delete a whole set of folders/files destroying data possibly inadvertently]

• It will not run on Mac OSX 10.5.8, on a G% dual 2.0ghz, now my older version of Firefox is gone...

I downloaded Firefox 4.0 and It will not run on Mac OSX 10.5.8, on a Mac G5 dual 2.0ghz. Now my older version of Firefox is gone...Why won't it work, the download page says it is for OSX and does not say it will not work on any particular OSX. Can your clarify. And can I get the old Firefox 3 back or should I continue using Safari....?

Yes I've read every one of them, none of them provide solutions whatsoever, I have spent about ten hours on this site in the past two days to no avail, none of the "resolved" threads provided any sort of solution for me, I have tried everything suggested on this website so far, multiple times, to no avail.

I recently re-installed java, and when i opened firefox the add-ons window opened with it. the Add-ons window will not close without closing firefox, and turning the pc off, using ctr+alt+del wont work. any assistant will be greatly appreciated

Start Firefox in <u>Safe Mode</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

• Roboformtaskbaricon process will not close after firefox 9 is shut down

Hello,
The roboformtaskbaricon.exe (v754) process will not close after firefox 901 is shut down. Although I could be wrong, my guess is that firefox is pushing this process out of firefox, forcing it to run on its own. If it's a roboform issue, then I will contact them.
Thank you, bheart

On the page below, scroll down to "RoboForm Controls", then scroll down to 4. Taskbar Icon under that heading. It sounds as though this may be the item to which you are referring. From the name of the file roboform<u>taskbaricon</u>.exe, it implies the Windows Task Bar rather than the Firefox toolbar.

For clarification of roboformtaskbaricon.exe, its function and whether it should shut down when exiting Firefox, contact Roboform Online Support and leave full details of your question:
