Firefox 17.0.1 in Vista Home Premium, svc pak 2, experiencing Google redirects to spam pages

As referenced in a now closed thread on this site that refers to XUL Runner & XUL cache and certain registry entries as the cause. I am experiencing a very high percentage of redirects to spam pages when I use Google search in Firefox, but not IE. How can I stop this?
I have searched Firefox extensions and plugins for any files similar to those mentioned in the articles, or anything similar, or anything that looks suspicious, with no results. I have searched the registry for entries such as those described, or similar, or otherwise suspicious, also with no results.
What I am experiencing though, sounds like exactly what is being discussed. Google support has a web page for reporting redirects like this, which makes me thing it may be a known issue?

Iam using Firefox 3.6.3 with Vista home premium but it takes up to 1min 30 seconds to start.

There are a couple reasons it may be taking a long time to start:

Firefox 6.0.2 on Vista Home Premium SP2 - Your new version, just updated, will not start.

Only crash box appears. Firefox no longer opens at all. This happened only after your latest update. I tried re-loading Firefox direct from mozilla.org and it still doesn't work.

Thank you Cor-el, for your help. Not being the smartest pup in the litter I found it a bit overwhelming but there is a glimmer of success. I went to the Mozilla website and downloaded the latest version. In doing so the update seems to have corrected the problem. Again, thank you for your help. dustyantique

Save and quit feature not working on FF4. Always worked in Firefox 3.6.Running Vista home premium

When I close firefox 4 the option to save the open tabs is not offered. Only choice is to cancel or close tabs. Running vista home premium. Only extensions are adblocl plus and image zoom

You can use "Firefox > History > Restore Previous Session" to get back the previous session. 
There is also a "Restore Previous Session" button on the default about:home Home page.
Another possibility is to use:
*Tools > Options > General > Startup: "When Firefox Starts": "Show my windows and tabs from last time"
You can set the warn prefs on the about:config page to true via the right-click context menu or toggle with a double left-click.

To open the about:config page, type about:config in the location (address) bar and press the "Enter" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website. 
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.

I followed your instructions and installed Developer Suite 10G on Windows Vista Home Premium edition. I have Oracle 11G DB running on the same machine.
Two points, Steve:
1. When I tried to set the maximum virtual memory to 6110 an error message displayed from Windows and told me that I can't set the maximum virtual memory to more than 4096. I set it to 4090 and it worked and I got nothing wrong during the installation process.
2. After installing JInitiator and disabling Java on Firefox I called the http://127.0.0.1:8889/forms/frmservlet page and everything seemed to be OK because the Oracle Forms Services logo appeared and then a successful installation message appeared , but as I clicked (ok) to continue a gray screen appeared inside the browser (like the one displayed when you try to run a Java applet inside a browser) and then I wait to death till something appears but sadly nothing. I just get a blank gray screen inside my Firefox browser.
Do you have any idea what to do to solve the problem?

Is Firefox 4.0 now compatible with ZoneAlarm Browser 1.5.260.0 and Windows Vista Home Premium, 64Bit System, Service Pack 2? Earlier when checking for updates there were compatibility issues. Were these issues resolved to allow me secure operation with Firefox 4.0?

I also am a zone alarm user and was not to happy about the issue with 4.0

It probably has to do with your security and/or browser configuration.
When my laptop crashed last year and I had to get a new one, I dealt with the same thing. First, go to your control panel and select the security section. See if your firewalls are up or not. If they are, turn them off. If you have any software to speed up your browser, that can affect the connection as well. Go into that software and disble/turn it off. If this doesn't work, contact customer support. They have a few other tricks they had me try that worked, but I can't remember them now.

32-bit Vista Home Premium - Explorer.exe visual basic library C++ runtime crash

I have a weird Explorer.exe crash going on when attempting to use Windows Explorer to access my iTunes Movies folder.
Background: Running 32-bit Windows Vista Home Premium (SP2) on a Gateway GM5664 Desktop (2.3 GHz Quad-core AMD CPU with 3 Gb RAM). Firefox is primary browser.
All of the latest Vista updates suggested by the OS have been successfully installed (thru 8-14-09). McAfee and Dr. Web scanners have shown no malware issues as of yesterday. Latest Radeon Catalyst Video Drivers are installed. C: drive has been cleaned and defragmented using the Vista utilities.
Situation: I attemped to access the directory where my iTunes Video library lives using Windows Explorer. As Explorer is processing the files in the appropriate sub-directory, the system crashes with the following message:
"Runtime error in explorer.exe. The application has required the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team
for more info." It indicates the nature of the error as something related to Visual Basic C++
I downloaded the freeware CCleaner registry cleaner, and it corrected numerous registry errors, however, the phenomenon still exists. When I downloaded
a commercial registry-fixing product (Quad Registry Cleaner), after doing a preliminary scan, it is indicating several more errors that the freeware version didn't pick up, the most common being empty registry keys. Since most commercial registry cleaners are snake oil, I am trying to identify other solutions to the problem.

I don't know the answer to this, but I wonder if there is a file in your movie folder that is upsetting Windows explorer when it attempts to preview it or display an icon.
As an off the wall suggestion try setting your folder view to the simplest possible thing, no preview and list view.
If you can't get into the problem folder, you can set this up in another folder and then go to folder options>>view where there is a button to apply the setting to all folders.

Firefox CS3 very slow (on Vista Home Prem. 64 bit)

Firefox CS3 is running very slow on Vista Home Premium 64
bit.
New Gateway AMD Phenom quad-core (2.3 Ghz quad) with 8 GB of
Ram.
The rest of the CS3 suite works fine, but there's a delay
every time I do anything in Fireworks.
I upgraded from 4 GB of Ram to 8, thinking that might make a
difference. But the problem remains essentially the same. I've
gotten all Adobe updates, but nothing seems to solve it.
Originally, I thought it was a matter of having other programs open
that was bogging it down. But even when it's the only program open,
it runs slow.
I was wondering if there are some other settings I need to
change, or what... The last Macromedia version of Fireworks ran
much faster on my XP system with less power and Ram, so this just
doesn't make sense...

64 bit? Umm...hmm.
First, other people have mentioned problems with FW CS3 on
Vista compared to either running on XP or other CS3 apps on Vista,
so you aren't alone. Unfortunately, nobody seems to be able to pin
down the conflict. Possibly AV, but (if I remember correctly) the
other person who posted about FW CS3 being slow didn't see an
improvement when he turned his AV off.
You might try turning off Aero for Fireworks, that helps with
the bitmap tools. If it's some other conflict, then it's going to
be a matter of experimenting.
I'm running Vista Home Premium 32 bit, and I don't notice any
trouble with FW CS3 (well, except for the bitmap tools, which I
don't use so I haven't bothered turning off Aero). My AV is NOD32,
though, and it's one of the smallest, most nimble AVs out there.

CS3 'freezed' installation problem on Windows Vista Home Premium.

Hi! I searched everywhere for answer that installation of my PS CS3 is freezed in moment on the screen.
I installed Acrobat Reader, Dreamweaver cs3 only. Both in English language.
I tried to uninstall, then install, using cs3clean, but it`s nothing change in my situation. Even I tried to copy whole content of my cs3 installation disk to hard drive.

How long did you allow it to sit like this? Only reason that I ask is that I recently did an install on my laptop, and the DVD drive was EIDE and it took probably 20 mins. to get through each disc.
