Firefox 18 US-english on SuSE Linux does not work

Hi,
running Firefox 17.0.1 on my SuSE Linux 11.2 works fine.
As I updated to Firefox 18.0 in Windows, I also downloaded
the US-english version for Linux (firefox-18.0.tar.bz2) and
unpacked it. The big disappointment: IT DOES NOT WORK!
XPCOMGlueLoad error for file /root/test/firefox/libxpcom.so:
libxul.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Couldn't load XPCOM.
I removed the installation, restarted the system, installed again.
No change. I tried the German package - the same problem.
What am I doing wrong? Is this a known issue? Any remedy?
Thanks, Tim Stoehr

• Firefox updated, Video download helper no longer works, no error msg. I have uninstalled both Firefox and VDH, reinstalled, VDH still does not work, Why

Video Download Helper does not work after most recent update. I have cleared cache and cookies, uninstalled both Firefox and the helper, that has not corrected. When Firefox does an update are the "vendors notified so they can see if their product needs changes in order to be compatible? This may sound like a stupid ?, but it makes sense tome. Telling me to download something else, in my eyes is not REALLY solving the problem.

Don't uninstall 36. Just download and install 35 over top and you don't lose any data. I already did and everything works just fine. But I did remove VDH first.

• I just upgraded to Firefox 5. How can I get a copy of Firefox 4. The new version does not work with Skype's auto dialer.

How can I get a copy of the previous version of Firefox? The latest version (5) does not support Skype's auto dialer. I use this tool to be more productive.

Due to security vulnerabilities, rolling back to Firefox 4.0.1 is not recommended.
If Firefox disabled some add-ons (especially extensions), it likely is because they include a list of compatible Firefox versions and haven't yet been updated for Firefox 5. If they worked on Firefox 4, there is a good chance they will work on Firefox 5.
You can force Firefox to ''ignore'' add-on version restrictions by (what else) installing an add-on. Then you can test whether the add-ons important to you actually work in Firefox 5.
[https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/add-on-compatibility-reporter/ Add-on Compatibility Reporter :: Add-ons for Firefox]
After you install this add-on and restart Firefox, there will still be a message that "--- is incompatible with Firefox 5.0" but the add-on will be enabled and a Disable button will appear for that entry.
Please report back on your results.

• Drag and Drop example porting to Linux does not work

Hi Guys,
Encountered this problem : I have a JFrame that displays the name and path of a file that is dragged from a Windows(Explorer) environment into the frame. This works seamlessly in Windows. However, porting to Linux and doing the same thing(dragging the file from File Manager into the Frame to display the file name and path) does not work.
I suspect the case may be something to do with the flavormap.properties file found in the jdk1.xx/jre/lib file. Can anyone help?

Hi,
I don't know what is causing the problem, but I have been able to avoid it by starting Jdeveloper from $home\jdev\bin\jdev.exe.

• FireFox 4 Windows 7: Edit/Find does not work. Find Bard does not display.

Edit/Find or Ctrl-F does not work. The "find bar" is not displayed.

It is possible that the screen is too wide or too high and that the scroll bars and Find bar fall off.
Open the system menu via Alt+Space and see if you can resize that window.
If that works then close Firefox to save that setting.

• I am using FF 5.0.1. The English spellchecker add on does not work.It will underline the misspelled word but does not give you the correct spelling choice.

I did not upgrade to 4.0 because I did not like it.I thought I was upgrading finally to 4.0 assuming at this date they had fixed all the bugs and updated the add ons.
I downloaded the latest version and love it, love it except the one add on that I use more than anything does not work properly.:-(
Please notify the developer of this issue.

"SafeBrowser'',
No it does NOT show up as I said before the ONLY option is "paste" there are NO suggestions showing up.
As I said before,I have used this same add on for many years and earlier versions and have had no problems until version FF5.01.
''cor-el'',
I have already done all that prior to posting here.
Even as I type this response the spell check add on puts a red squigly line under your screen names but does not give me any suggestions.
I am frustrated beyond belief because I am a faithful and dedicated user of this browser and I am going to just roll back to a older version until this silly issue is resolved.
I appreciate all your help but I suppose until the person who developed this add on does something to make it compatible with FF5.01 I will not be using it.
I apologize for any misspelled words but my spell check extension is not working properly. :-(

• I cannot open a new tab - when I restart firefox (or my computer), ctrl T does not work, and the "+" tab next to the single tab on my browser window does NOT open a second tab

Firefox3.6.18, running on WinXP (all the Microsoft patches), opens with a single tab. Clicking the Add Tab "+" or pressing CTRL T does not open a new tab, although I can open a new window. Also, when exiting from Firefox, my tab location is not saved.

Please disable or uninstall the Ask toolbar extension to solve your problem. It has a known incompatibility with Firefox. See [[Uninstalling add-ons]].

• After i updated firefox --my autofill for my email does not work. i have to enter the complete contact name instead of being completed automatically

before i upgraded my firefox my email would autofill. now it does not. i have tried to switch back to my previous version but can not seem to do that either

Update firefox to the latest version. If necessary use http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/.
Some problems have been fixed in Firefox 18.0.2 it may help to update to that version.
*use http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/ and see also [[Install Firefox on Windows]]
* CARE you do not need to uninstall Firefox first and do NOT use any option that offers to delete personal information, because you will destroy bookmarks and passwords.

• DATA GATHERER on Linux does not work

I have spent 2 days and it does not change, I can find 4 other posts in here where people asked for help and nothing ever happened.
It seems pretty clear that this is a waste of time so I am going to move on.
If I am mistaken, please tell what you know,
Thanks

Well its 815 on red hat 6.1 and when you load the data gatherer it
says its fine, then you get this from performance manager:
vtm-0005:Error connecting to server
java.net.ConnectException:Connection refused
oracle performance manager
Which means -> The Oracle Data Gatherer is not running
which is also the output from -test,
here is output from debug console

• ITunes download using Firefox on Windows 7 64-bit does not work

I just got set up on a new Windows 7 machine (64-bit) at work. I was trying to download the iTunes exe file to my machine and was initially using Firefox as my browser. After multiple attempts to save the file were unsuccessful, I decided to try a different browser.
I popped over to Chrome and it downloaded with no problem. I thought I would share in case anyone else runs into the same issue.

This has worked for some of us but not all. Go to control panel and uninstall itunes and icloud, restart pc, go to apple site and download itunes and icloud. Good luck.

• I downloaded firefox 4.0.1 and it does not work with Norton. How do I load 4.0 back on?

With firefox 4.0.1 none of my passwords or log in names are entered from my norton program. I would like to go back to 4.0 which was working fine with all my systems. Any way this can be done? Below it list my installed plug ins but those are from my laptop which I'm using now not from my desktop which is the problem child.

Symantec are due to release updates very soon to make their add-ons work in Firefox 4.0.1. For details see http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Internet-Security-Norton/Norton-product-compatibility-with-Firefox-Updates/m-p/443808
Pending this update, you can go back to Firefox 4.0, their add-ons work in that version. You can get Firefox 4.0 from http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/4.0/win32/ - you need to select the folder for your language, you can then download and run the Firefox 4 setup file to install it.
If you do install Firefox 4.0 temporarily turn off automatic updates until Symantec update their add-ons. To do that in the Firefox options window, go to the Advanced panel, and then the Update tab and de-select the option to automatically check for updates to Firefox.

• Since I updated Firefox my contacts list from Yahoo does not work; how can I get it to work?

When I try to go to the Contacts portion of my Yahoo account, the contacts page appears but when I try to put a contact into the search place, nothing happens. The Calendar works and the Email page works. I can get to the Contacts page through Internet Explorer but I prefer using Firefox. I have the latest version of Firefox.
