Firefox 18 will not open for until it unsuccessfully tries to load an update after Windows reboot every time.

Each time I reboot my computer, Firefox 18 will be working in the background after I double click the icon. It does not show up in the task manager. If I double click the icon several times some minutes later, it will finally open up all the windows. The first window will say that an update was unsuccessfully loaded, and it will try again. When that fails, then I close that window and I am good until I reboot again.
I have already tried resetting to default. I also completely uninstalled it with all my personal settings and then reinstalled it.
The trouble remains.

In case you still have problems after installing then check your security software.

Firefox will not boot up until reinstalled, have tried reset to no avail.

At first the problem was very occasional and it started approx two weeks ago. Now Firefox will rarely open twice in a row. If I reinstall Firefox it will boot up from the desktop icon maybe a couple of times if I am lucky.
Google Chrome has never given me any problem or any other programme for that matter. My preference for browsing is Firefox so I tried reverting to an earlier version (18), no difference. I did a 'Reset' as per the help pages and it has made no difference.
I am using a Samsung N150 Plus notebook which had a complete hard drive reformat about two months ago.

if you can not open firefox in safe mode try to boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps ?
(If works in Windows Safe mode then you have a problem with other software, like security software or maybe a system driver, that is running on your computer).

On a computer that is shared with multiple users(3),two of the users cannot open Firefox,only one user can. It shows the blue circle (Windows 7) but it disappears and does not open. I have multiple users (12-15) that share a computer. I installed firefox under my login (Admin). it opens on my login , but none of the other users can open firefox with their login. I have other computers that everyone can use firefox on their login so it is unique to this single computer.

I have exactly the same issue. After FF upgraded on its own to version 5, it won't open from start menu, taskbar, desktop icon, or even by pressing firefox.exe in program files directory. It does so by pressing a link at msn messenger, inside Outlook etc.
Disabling all addons, didn't help. Moreover, I can't start FF in safe mode or start profile manager (Start > Run> firefox.exe -ProfileManager).

This first thing that comes to my mind is that the battery is completely drained. But you say you left it plugged in to charge over night. Was the iPad plugged in to the charger or to your computer? If it was connected to th computer try plugging it into the wall charger. Wait 30 minutes then reset the iPad. Press and hold both the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button continuously until the Apple logo appears. Then release the button and let the device restart. You will not lose data doing this. It's like a computer reboot. But it the iPad was plugged into the wall charger overnight and it still doesn't respond, the iPad most likely has a hardware problem Make an appointment at an Apple Store to have your device examined by a technician. Starting yesterday, Firefox will not open at all. It hangs at the "connecting stage." For hours. It will not shut down even using the task manager for applications or processes, and it locks up virtually every other application. I thought I managed to save an open Word document yesterday - it looked like a slow, but normal save during the Firefox hang, but the document was empty when I restarted my computer.
Even though my machine is not pentium 4 based, I tried starting using the Windows XP/M configuration, I downloaded and re-installed (over the top of) the existing version, I verified that no Mozilla processes were running before trying to start Mozilla, and tried creating a new profile. I have no navigation bar ever since I closed it to gain more space on the screen. It won't re-open. Firefox will not open in safe mode, but opens immediately in normal mode with the new improper config, so I cannot reset to default config. I erased Firefox and re-installed and it still opens with the same faulty config. Why does Firefox not give me the safe mode dialog box, why can I not re-open the nav bar, and how can I do these two things, please? Firefox is currently unusable for me without a nav bar and without access to the default settings in safe mode. Firefox will not open after attempting to upgrade to v5, sys restore didn't help

Was running 3.6 with no problems, but trying to upgrade today apparently broke it. The upgrade failed for some reason (the old .exe is still the only one in the Firefox folder & I can't find any files newer than April 2010 in there), but no matter how I try to run it, nothing happens - Firefox will not open, period. I tried reverting to last week with sys restore, scanning for malware with Malwarebytes, but still nothing happens. I'm using WinXP 5.1 media edition SP2 (yes, it's been around a few years but it works for me). I'm now using Chrome which seems to run just fine, tho I miss all my plugins.

If Firefox runs without problems, it could indicate that your firewall is blocking Firefox.

Firefox will not open unless I run it in compatibility mode (Windows XP SP 3), run it as an administrator, or launch it immediately after a reinstall (the reinstall thing only works once.) How do I fix this?

This morning, Firefox crashed. After this, when I click the Firefox icon, the hourglass appears and then nothing happens. Firefox does briefly appear in the task manager when I do this.
I tried rebooting. I tried reinstalling multiple times. (Firefox will run when I select "Launch Firefox" from the installer. Then the problem occurs again.) I tried safe mode. I have found that Firefox will work if I select Windows XP compatibility mode from the icon properties menu or if I run the program as an administrator. When I do this, Windows asks me if I want a program to be able to make changes to my computer.
I have noticed that a Windows Error Report is being generated each time Firefox will not open.
