Firefox 19.02 seems to consume much more CPU constinuously bringing the whole computer to be slower

A few minutes after Firefox 19.02 is started, it starts to consume about 40%-50% of the CPU continuously.
deactivating all plugins and addons does not change the situation.
This never happened before even with many tabs open etc.

Well, in safe mode things seem a bit better but still Firefox uses 16%-22% CPU resources when minimized doing nothing. Question is what now? Sorting out addons one by one?
Thing it that Firefox does not shows the problem immediately after restart. It takes 10-20 minutes before it starts to 'eat' my CPU resources...

After I installed version 3.6.11, Firefox seemed to run more slowly. The cpu usage spikes frequently even when I'm not on any active websites and it tends to be unresponsive when this happens.

  • SSRS report is consuming much more time to fetch data from DB even direct run SP takes less than a second

    Hi,
we are using SQL SERVER 2008R2 X64 RTM version.
One of the SSRS report designed by developer  is  consuming  much more time( 5 to 6 minutes ) to fetch data from DB. Even direct run of  Stored Procedure (Called in report )takes less than a second to display the result set.
    Please help.
    Regards Naveen MSSQL DBA

    Hi Naveen,
Based on my understanding, you spend a little time retrieving data with a stored procedure from database in dataset designer. However, it takes long time to run the report to display the data, right?
In Reporting Services, the total time to generate a report include TimeDataRetreval, TimeProcessing and TimeRendering. In your scenario, since you mentioned retrieving data costs a little time, you should check the table
Executionlog3 in the ReportServer database to find which section costs most of time, TimeProcessing or TimeRendering. Then you can refer to this article to optimize your report:
    Troubleshooting Reports: Report Performance.
Besides, if parameters exist in the report, you should declare variables inside of the stored procedure and assign the incoming parameters to the variables. For more information, please refer to the similar thread:
Fast query runs slow in SSRS.
If you have any question, please feel free to ask.

  • Why does both the firefox and the plug-in use over 1gb ram of my computer memory? It is making the whole computer extremly slow and you should do something about it, or make it possible to download FireFox 3,6

FireFox 3,6 was only using 400mb or so. When I got FireFox 4 it all have been much more than that, almost everytime I use firefox. The plugin is using more than it should, no matter how few tabs I have open it still will not make the number go any lower. I can almost not use my computer because of this.

Don't know if it is your problem, but your Adobe Flash plug-in at 10.2.159.* is not up to date. You current one today is 10.3.181.22 for Firefox users. And not being up-to-date with Flash has a lot of problems.

  • I had my computer wiped and they accidentally wiped my itunes! I have a iPod touch gen 3 but i cant now download or put more music on, without the whole thing being wiped, and I have spent a lot of money on songs and apps!

I had my computer wiped and they accidentally wiped my itunes! I have a iPod touch gen 3 but i cant now download or put more music on, without the whole thing being wiped, and I have spent a lot of money on songs and apps! Does anyone have an ideas about what I could do, to prevent all my things deleting, because I won't be spending more money on apps that I have already purchased once!!
    Thank you,

    1) ensure iTunes is authorized for your iTunes store account(s)
    2) connect your device and right-click or control-click it in the iTunes Source list, then choose transfer purchases from the shortcut menu that appears.
    3) sync the device
iTunes will wipe the iPhone but, since you transferred your purchases in the previous step, your content will be in your library and you can re-populate the iPhone with it.
above works for purchases from the iTunes store. for everything else, check out this post by Zevoneer.

  • Whay after new firefox download all pages load so much more slowly

I have been prompted twice in the last couple of days to download new firefox updats.
Since then, my web pages load very much more slowly than they ever had before. I have tried the usual system maintenance tools with no improvement in efficiency or speed.
The downloading process states it disables quite a few normal operating systems involving Java and Adobe etc. Why?
It seems you are improving firefox at the cost of the rest of the system. How is that supposed to help any web use?

Everything is probably working fine for most of 400 million Firefox users. Whatever the problem is it will probably only affect a few users, and may well be due to something to do with how you have Firefox set up on your computer.
If you are able to provide more information it helps us in trying to help you. As they say a picture is worth a thousand words, so attaching a couple of screenshots of the problem pages may assist us.
The suggestions in my first post did '''not''' involve installing and uninstalling anything, just simple tests and changes using mouse clicks. In fact I pointed out a reinstall may not solve problems.
(A special clean reinstall, or setting up a new profile does sometimes help, but first of all lets just try to find out first of all what you are seeing on your own computer screen)

  • I have Windows 2000, DSL access, and just updated to Firefox 7 which seems to run much slower in many ways: any thoughts?

Firefox starts as quickly as before, but switching between tabs or closing tabs often takes forever. Also when I drag to highlight a long page and copy, the scrolling speed is much much slower than before. To highlight a long passage I have to drag just the beginning, hold that with the Shift key and use the arrow keys to highlight the whole passage within any reasonable time. Closing Firefox is usually as quick as before, but once in a while it gets constipated and takes 30+ seconds to close -- though I suspect this might have something to do with some open tabs. (By "close" I'm referring to when it leaves the screen, not later when it is dropped from memory.) I average 3 or 4 open tabs with brief periods of 8 or 9 open tabs.

Please try this: '''Tools''' (or '''Alt''' + '''T''') > '''Options''' > '''Advanced''' > '''General'''. Under '''Browsing''' deselect '''Use autoscrolling''', '''Use smooth scrolling''', '''Use hardware acceleration...''' if any are selected.

  • Several encrypted .dmg files show much more free space that the total size of the file.

I have several encrypted .dmg files on my macbook air running OS X 10.10.1  I have had them for years with no problems. Now suddenly, in the finder, at the bottom of the finder window where it shows the number of items and free space for a disk, it shows more free space than the full size of the .dmg file. Typically it will show about 200MB for a 100 MB file. Obviously, this is a bug, but I can find no information or discussions about it anywhere.
Does anyone have the same problem? Any ideas how to fix it?

Thanks for the ideas. Unfortunately, it didn't work.
I rebuilt the spotlight index as suggested.
I tried it twice, rebooting the computer a couple of time along the way.
Below you can see the actual file as it occurs in the finder in its unopened form.
Now, below here is what the finder reports at the bottom of the finder window when the file is opened and added as a virtual disk.
Note that the total file size is 102.5 Mb
Yet the finder says it has 234.5 Mb free!
The actual size of the files on the disk add up to about 60 Mb
This occurs with several similar dmg files.
Any other ideas or experiences would be appreciated.

  • Firefox aborts LARGE downloads on completion with an 'unknown error' and the whole file has to be downloaded again - surely there must be a workfile somewhere?

Because I only have satellite internet available to me, I have to download YouTube files in my download window. Several times now, one or two of maybe five or six files, all being downloaded simultaneously *to the same directory*, will abort with an error message "<filename> could not be saved because an unknown error occurred. Try saving to a different location". However, you don't get a chance to save it to a different location, the whole damned file has to be downloaded again from scratch. This is actually with IceWeasel 17.0.10, a thinly-disgusided version of Firefox 17 LTS, running on 64-bit Debian 7.1 multihome.
I realise this may be a plugin problem rather than a Firefox problem, I'm not sure of the exact relationship between the two, but I'm using TubeEnhancer 2.6 to do the downloads.
Whatever the 'unknown error' might be (and it's not a permissions problem, other videos being downloaded at the same time will save correctly to the same directory!) it seems beyond belief that it's not possible to give the user a chance to save the file somewhere else, as the error message suggests. It's so frustrsting to have to go through the whole download process again. Surely Firefox is storing a copy of the file on the hard drive as it downloads, is there really no way that this can at least be recovered when the error occurs, even if it's not possible for some reason to give the user a second chance to pick a directory and filename?

OK, so I tried disabling the other addons and (I'm sure this is coincidental!) the problem actually got WORSE, not better, i.e. more aborted downloads.
This is a long-standing problem with both Firefox and Thunderbird, both programs will happily tell you *during* the download process that they've downloaded X MB of Y MB, but if the download aborts, then there's no indication that it's done so on the dowload page. All that is needed is to retain that expected download size figure when the download has terminated, so that you can easily see whether unattended downloads completed or not.
Yes, I suppose those of us who have to use satellite internet services are in the minority, but the only hours when I can download anything are between 0200 and 0700 my time, and I do like to get SOME sleep at nights!

  • Firefox 3.6.24 is stressing memory and CPU resources to the point that Hotmail is almost unusuable and computer jams while FF goes thru its athletics; what to do?

I have a Dell Inspiron 710m, with Windows XP, Norton 360, IE8. My computer understanding and needs are simple. Norton lets me know that Firefox is eating memory and CPU. The machine often jams while this happens, whether or not Norton has flagged an operation, and then resumes function. Hotmail is in shambles (jamming between operations, and having sign out problem). Neither Norton nor CC Cleaner (including Registry) indicate a problem. This is a nifty little machine that I use for email, mostly newspaper subscriptions, online shopping and banking, personal, and for Internet research. I have tried more advanced versions of Firefox and found them buggy. So, I went back. The upgrades are coming too fast. Not everyone is going to invest in another machine for Windows 7 or IE 9 capability right away. Meanwhile, Firefox, which worked just fine, seems to be pushing along, in what seems to be an industry in which cooperation and compatibility have ceased to be important. I don't know what to do. I can't do complex diagnostics and fixes, and am not in an area where I would take this computer anywhere.

Thank you for taking the time out to reply. I don't know whether or not your suggestions would have worked, but I did solve my problem. I eventually figured out that the file, overlay.xul, was doing something and when I changed the filename, the bar went away.
I was reading that the xul error usually meant something wrong with an extension, but that didn't make sense because after uninstalling/reinstalling, there were no extensions present, on an assumption, of course. I noticed a file through a search, and it was located in a folder without a mozilla/firefox name in it, looked like a randomly generated folder name. I looked in the extensions. ini and noticed it pointed to that overlay.xul file in that random named folder and thought, what the hell, and just renamed the overlay.xul file to something else and the problem went away.
    Thanks again.

  • FireFox knocks the whole computer off the internet

When I am using FireFox(at present 3.6.8) eventually it will stop accessing the internet. I will start getting nothing but "server taking to long to respond" or "can't find www.xxxxxxx.xxx" or "may be to busy", etc... I ahve several others browsers installed also and when this happens, they ALSO exhibit the same problems. I have to wait 5 minutes or reboot the system to re-access the internet. It does not affect my network connection, just access to the internet.
So far, my only solution is to never use FireFox

Reply to Jscher 2000. No that didn't do it. It just locked up again. Darn!

  • My iPad and my phone are MUCH more unstable after downloading the latest update 8.3. Watch ESPN drops frequently. And other apps seem start and stop. Very annoying

Any help anticipated? Safari just closed twice trying to post this note!

If the problem continues you may want to consider backing up your iPad and restoring it to Factory Settings. This will reload a fresh copy of iOS.

  • Why does Magic Mouse use much more battery power than the keyboard?

I have the Bluetooth versions of the keyboard and the Magic Mouse. I use the same rechargeable batteries in each. Yet the mouse has now come to the end of a THIRD set of AAs, while the keyboard still has 60% of its first set.
Why? They are both constantly in use, so why does the Mouse drain batteries so much faster than the keyboard? Viz: the mouse about once a week (two, max), while at this rate, it will be another month or more before the keyboard drains.

Actually I don't! I consider myself a 'power user' in that I will always use the keyboard first, and I learn keyboard shortcuts for nearly everything I do regularly.
I would guess my use is 50:50 at worst?
